Hola everyone, and welcome to this week’s Smackdown Redux. This week, we bring forth a match that I’m surprised hasn’t happened sooner, in Kaitlyn vs. Beth Phoenix. It’s the last stop until Kaitlyn’s big shot at Layla‘s Divas Championship this Sunday during Night of Champions, but can she first put away the all mighty Glamazon? Let’s find out.
Following the entrances of both Kaitlyn and Beth Phoenix, as well as a plug for Kaitlyn’s big title match this Sunday at Night of Champions, the bell sounds and they lock up. Beth takes an early advantage with some headlocks and a knee to the abdomen, but Kaitlyn finally starts to fight back… briefly. Beth hoists her onto the ring apron, but Kaitlyn headbutts her in the stomach and slides in with a roll up for a two. Jackknife pin for another two, as Layla watches ringside while Beth lifts Kaitlyn into a Canadian backbreaker. Kaitlyn slides out and scores with a shoulder tackle, then proceeding to attempt a roll up that Beth ducks and Kaitlyn collides with the ropes. The Glamazon continues to take control of the number one contender, but Kaitlyn eventually fights out as a “Kaitlyn” chant breaks out! Nonetheless, Beth pulls her off the top rope and then signals for the Glam Slam, but Kaitlyn escapes and hits a reverse DDT for the win.
Thoughts: I enjoyed this match between Kaitlyn and Beth, which is something I’ve been wanting to see for quite some time. While there will probably be some people who are upset with Beth losing to Kaitlyn, I don’t really mind it. If the same person was on top forever, it would be boring. It’s nice seeing different people spotlighted, and this is just Kaitlyn’s turn. Beating a former Divas Champion was much needed for her in the wake of Eve sort of overshadowing her feud with Layla, and I thought it was a great segment. Personally, I felt both did fine together, although I’m not a fan of Kaitlyn’s finisher at all. It’s no secret she’s pretty much one of my favorite Divas, but the reverse DDT is way too basic for me. It never stood out, in my opinion, as a finishing type move, especially against someone like Beth Phoenix. I much prefer her leg submission or the wedgie flatliner she used to do in FCW. Other than that though, I enjoyed the match and I’m looking forward to Night of Champions this Sunday!

Yea…what the hell? That used to be a simple transitional move…it’s just a neckbreaker…

I think it would of been nice if kaitlyn mocked her by using the glam slam on beth lol
at
DDT finishers have always been very “meh” for me too. It’s just way too basic a move these days, but at least it wasn’t a roll up win, right?!
at
I don’t think this Kaitlyn push is going anywhere. She got a chant, and she beat Beth clean with a finisher.

love kaitlyn to bits and love this match she keeps getting better each week.
what i love the most is kaitlyns shoulder block it looks effective and when i watched it first time i thought she took beths head off
cant wait till sunday to see this championship

I give Beth less than a year before she’s gone from WWE. She’s taking on the role that Melina had near the end of her run. Someone the announcers can sell as credible because of past accolades, but basically a glorified jobber.

I miss the times of melina vs mickie vs beth :(

i dont think so..she’s coming off being the top heel for over a yr

Kaitlyn needs to work with beth more often; she can learn alot from her. Kinda like how trish’s in-ring skills were iffy but then she started working with jazz and got alot better.

Is it just me or does Beth’s moveset seem a bit watered down now, but Kaitlyn is getting better and more popular:) Although I do wish she would use her NXT finishers more. The Lotus Lock and the Side Effect are nice moves for her!

That’s what I have been saying for a very long time now. Her moveset isn’t as colourful as it used to be, and instead of dominating most of her matches, she now struggles a lot to make it through. I understand that it’s time for the fresher divas to be spotlighted, but I really perceive this as a sign of her imminent departure.

i love how it showed kaitlyn n beth strength they went toe to toe at the start kaitlyn winning clean on beth is good for her i just hate beth losing like this cause if they want to keep her dominant she falls flat
at the end of the day i enjoyed this match it was fresh to me

I like Kaitlyn she’s starting to create her own arsenal of moves ..Like the powerful running shoulder block she does that looks awesome and super violent
But there are so many other ddts which work so much better as finishers!
Lita’s ddt ! Mickie’s ddt for example!
and she used a great finisher that looked like a popular Matt Hardy move (sorry I can’t remember the name) back in the previous nxt …it was in a match vs Tamina

It was the sitout side slam that was like Matt Hardys “Side Effect”. :)
Yeah I would had loved it as her regular finisher cause it looks awesome, powerful and effective tbut they obviously they didn’t let her do it. :/

“If the same person was on top forever, it would be boring.” Like how Layla is on top all the time and is one of the most boring Divas in WWE because of it.

^ This. People are being so unfair toward Beth.

The match was good for what it was cause even Beth got pinned, they showed that she was on top for like 99% of the time while Kaitlyn was rather struggling to take the upper hand (which is actually bullshit given that they are equal on strength but that’S wwe :p).
Kaitlyn has showcased so many power moves and other very athletic ones in houseshows, fcw and nxt, yet they make her use only like 3-4 moves on the main roster. :/
That’s the only thing I dislike a bit but other then that it was nice to see that they at least let her use a finisher (her 5th!).
The Fallout after the match was great aswell and showed that this match gave Kaitlyn a great boost of confidence and that she is very determined to grab the Title from Layla now! :)
I REALLY hope they will let both girls to put up a great match at the PPV without restrictions or at least very few ones cause both can work great matches when they are allowed to do so.

The match sucked. Kaitlyn is still sloppy. Her in a divas championship match on PPV is a joke.

Maybe the backslide was but the rest of the match looked fine to me.

The Backslide sloppyness was Beths fault.
If you check the move exactly you will see that she grabs her by the hair instead of the shoulder.
That’s why she had difficulties to pull Kaitlyn over her back while Kaitlyn were struggling to push herself over Beth to sell the move.
You can’t pull someone over by grabbing one shoulder on the left side and the hair on the right, expecting the move to still look clean.

Beth was pulling kaitlyns hair as a way of cheating it was the way kaitlyn went down into the move not the way it was performed…..

Kaitlyn’s right arm was hooked while the other one was free. Her body would obviously tilt on the right side.
I don’t know why Beth would need to cheat by pulling hair when she is the strongest Diva on the roster. Wouldn’t applying the correct back slide pin be more effective?
Not a smart move by Beth, imo.

Not a bad match, the backslide was sloppy tho, and it looked like it was due to Kaitlyn. Also don’t like her finisher.
Excited for Sunday, can’t wait to see how Layla and Kaitlyn work together, and can’t wait to see what part Eve will have in the match.

That was all Beth. She grabbed Kaitlyn’s hair for a backslide pin…strange.

I disagree. Kaitlyn landed a bit wrongly when Beth dragged her down for slide pin, that’s just my opinion though.

I agree with what someone said bout Beth i do think that she and Natalya will not be with WWE much longer seeing as they both seem to be just here to make the other girls look good. Beth has done all she can in WWE the only thing left is a feud with Natalya and Kharma and seem like neither is going to happen so i mean nothing good last forever sometimes its just time to say goodbye

I do believe that was a rumor that was said months ago and we have yet to hear anything else about it no official statement no anything just like with Kharma release WWE still has yet to make an official statement on that like they normally do
at
I thought it was a nice little match. I’m glad Kaitlyn got to have a finisher. Could be a better one but it’s better than a roll-up. I understand not using her Lotus Lock and whatever since I don’t think Beth’s actually been made to submit before.
at
I would love to see Kaitlyn as a heel she just seem to be so generic as a face look at what a heel turn did for Eve. I would love to see Kaitlyn as this sarcastic witty insulting heel like Ivory in the attitude era i think she could pull it off.

She works as a heel in FCW/NXT.
at
Give the girl a proper finisher! She is extremely strong. Give Kaitlyn a powerbomb, fisherman driver, TKO, SOMETHING! Not an Inverted DDT. One, it looks too weak to finish Beth and two it doesn’t show off Kaitlyn’s insane strength. They need to accentuate Kaitlyn’s strength’s not hide them
at
The match was meh nothing special.
BUT
What did catch my eye was the backstage fallout and kaitlyns…act? I got heelish vibes from that…would not surprise me if EVE and Kaitlyn screw layla outta the title come NOC..only for EVE to snatch up a match either the very next night or on smackdown and steal the title from Kaitlyn…and thus sets layla on the course to chase the title in which EVE never beat her for..and regain it by say the royal rumble and then go onto defend and sunsequently drop it to AJ at WM.

So did I. But no matter what happens outside the ring, she’s got this.

I find it sad that it seems like WWE doesn’t have any other heel divas to job to Kaitlyn other than Beth and Natalya. I also have a hard time believing that a rookie like Kaitlyn can “beat” Beth, but Tamina Snuka can’t. She’s just as strong as Kaitlyn and Beth, if not stronger, and after she lost to Beth, Tamina basically faded off the main roster, and I feel like Kaitlyn’s gonna suffer the same fate after Night of Champions.

I think its the opposite.
There’s no other face around other than Layla, and I think they’re setting up Kaitlyn to be the top face. Look at who’s got more focus. Kaitlyn’s had matches on TV while Layla had them on Superstars.

Where the hell is Kelly? Everyones saying how Beth and Nattie may be on their way out, but our favorite howling Blonde seems to be MIA once again. If they indeed are polishing up Kaitlyn to present her as the new babyface, Kelly’s the one I’m worried about losing.
at
The dubbed in oohs and aahs are just too much!!!
Decent match, but I think it shows how much they are misusing Beth than Kaitlin should be viewed as a potential champion.
She really needs to try establish what kind of wrestler she is suppose to be. Too many Kelly-Kelly-like moves in her list. The obvious choice is power base, but with Natalya the power-technical and Beth, power-dominator (although, to save her career, she should become more like Brock Lesnar when he arrived, more slams and transitions), the only other one I can think of is more suited for a heel, which is a power-brawler, like a WWE Cris Cyborg. As she clearly one of the least skilled in the ring, a style that is more about brutal clotheslines, ramming shoulders into turnbuckles and knees to stomachs would make her more credible an opponent and bring more to the division than a physically strong girl doing roll-ups

I kind of agree Kaitlyn’s move set seems to much like Kelly’s I understand she’s going for the girl next door but yet a powerhouse gimmick but she needs to drop a little bit of the roll ups and cutesy stuff I hate her entrance theme I like her outfits but they look she borrowed them from kelly and layla and the seamstress changed a few things on them.
at
I liked this match. Kaitlyn had my attention the moment she was paired with the incredible Vickie G. Kaitlyn has a presence about her and she has improved greatly. I want to see her take the title now at NOC and start a full fledged rivalry with Eve. Eve is my top girl at the moment. She seems to be the best all rounder in the business alongside Natalya.
at
Beths moveset is so watered down shes stale to watch now they need to let her do some other moves & let her do other things…
Beth seems to only lose to roll ups & reverse ddt’s ask alicia she also did it before that injury she caused…..
Im actually not that excited to see what happens at the ppv but i just hope layla retains & kaitlyn goes heel than beth can go face….
at
match is ok but sleepy.

For the love of Pete, can Kaitlyn get a decent entrance down instead of running around spastic like an idiot?
