Report: Top Diva Leaving WWE

Could this be the end of the Glamazon?

Former WWE Divas and Women’s Champion, Beth Phoenix, is leaving WWE, reports PWInsider.

The website reports that Phoenix has given notice to the company and will be finishing up at the end of October.

Phoenix is a three-time WWE Women’s Champion, a one-time Divas Champion, and Slammy Award winner for Diva of the Year. Her Divas Title reign ended in April.

Beth’s reported departure would follow in the footsteps of the Bella Twins and Maxine who also left WWE this year. Meanwhile, Kelly Kelly has opted to take time away from the company.

RIP divas division, these last 5 years have been interesting

    • divafan

This is so sad but i think Sarah del ray will debut when Beth leaves. I hope she will have a match with Natalya before she leaves.

  • Lanoom

    Awesome.
    Maybe they’ll call up Paige.
Or put Naomi into the ring.
Or Eve vs. Layla for eternity.
    Or end the division.

    • ricky_says_hi

Paige is under 21 so she’ll have to wait roughly a year before she can get called up. Naomi would be nice

      • WhalenX12

        Why is that ?

        • Looking Glass

Because WWE don’t like to feature talent under 21 on their main roster apparently.

      • ajfan83

Kelly debuted on TV when she was 19.

        • redsandman99

That was also back in 2006. It is possible that their rules about having people under 21 on the main roster have changed since then.

        • Lanoom

          Also, as a nympho/sex candy/exhibitionist.

          Good luck with that today.

    • Rtylor

Yeh Naomi should do some matches.

  • wl75

I’m not shocked- they had some gold in some of the potential feuds, and they never were able or willing to do them. Why should she risk her body anymore than she has?

  • shameronstar

Should give Beth Phoenix a really good retirement match against someone like Natalya or maybe a debuting diva!

    • http://www.youtube.com/jillfan1 Jillfan1

EXACTLY she deserves it she is what people call somewhat of the glue of the division =(

      • ballplayer10123

She was the glue of the division, and a terrific asset to restling company. The WWE completely mismanaged her character over the last year or better. This is a terrible loss for the division, from a stability standpoint.

        • http://www.youtube.com/jillfan1 Jillfan1

          I KNOW </3

  • http://www.youtube.com/jillfan1 Jillfan1

OMFG i hope not now she deserves a goodbye match at A PPV i was hoping for atleast a SARA DEL REY CONFRONTATION 3 MANY DREAMS OF MONE WERE SHATTERED =( NO FEUD WITH KHARMA, D.O.D BEING DESTROYED why aren’t they using PHOENIX to her potential like they use to come on WWE the crowd rarely gives a crap about Layla =p DAMNIT WHY WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • MrAliciaFox

I am sure this will not happen, but in a dream world, Beth will announce her departure live on RAW with Natalya by her side for support. Then, she would ask Natalya to face her in her final match.

If this report is true, this would be a nice ending.

    • moogle

omfg this would be flawless on every level.

  • DAFereldan91

Haters must be hopping and jumping around in joyfulness now.
I hope Beth does not truly leave, but if she does, I sincerely thank her for all the good matches, great feuds and unforgettable memories she had brought to entertain me and the fans for the past 6 years. I have been a loyal fan of her since she first début on the roster and I wish her al the best in her future endeavours.

    P.S. F.U.CK YOU, WWE.

Think of the posotive like it’s not that hard yo.

    BETH PHOENIX:
    * Both RAW & SmackDown
    * Both face & heel
    * Held both Divas & Women’s championship
    * Appeared in numerous videogames
    * 4 action figures
    * 2nd woman to be in the Royal Rumble
    * Strong fanbase
    * Part of the winning team in the 1st ever Divas Table Match
    * Created ” Divas Of Doom” ( who cares if it flopped, it happened)
    * Multiple feuds
    * 6 year run

This woman has done it all, and even more. If she wants to retire let her, she has accomplished a lot of things.

I agree, people play stuff down so much and act like Beth’s career was the female equivalent to Funaki. Not everyone will get the Trish Stratus treatment, the constant attention, the headlining retirement match and the title shots/win records but Beth hasn’t done too badly. Whenever she’s been around she’s had storylines, she’s had success and that’s more than a lot of Divas get. People need to stop twisting their knickers up and acting like she’s been hard done by.

    • Raekon

You are totally right Moonpiggy and that’s what many people unfortunately ignore only because they want to see one single person to be always on the top of the division which is something that’s just not possible.

Most of all since if it would happen people would start complaining that it’s “boring” asking for other champions down the line.

Not that it didn’t already happened. -.-

Anyway… in my opinion it could also have to do with the death in the family that changed her private life aswell.

Maybe she want’s to quit wrestling because of that or even find someone (if she didn’t have already) and start a family?

In november she turns 32 after all which means that it wouldn’t be a bad age to start with it.

I honestly hope she doesn’t leave but if she indeed does in her own terms then I can wish her all the best for her life and if she indeed chooses to continue wrestling also for her further career (TNA? SHINE?).

I’m sure that I wouldn’t mind to watch Beth vs Jazz or Beth vs Tara for sure. :)

    • TheGamergirl22

you forgot Glamerella that was mad funny

and first divas I quit match although it was more a subimision

  • redsandman99

Not exactly surprising. Could her booking play a role in this decision? Maybe but she’s also been with the company seven years and been wrestling even longer than that. With the exception of the dream feuds for her she’s done pretty much all she can actually accomplish in the company. If she goes I’ll be sad to see her go. It does make me wonder though that if she does go whether she’ll actually retire or pop up somewhere else down the road.

    • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

true. the way she’s been used on tv the last few months has actually made me think she was on her way out of wwe.. even seen the odd comment here and there on DD from others feeling that way!

wouldn’t mind at all if she does a tara and “retires” only to show up elsewhere a few months down the line!

  • YouCanLookButYouCan’tTouch

I wanna say I believe it, but I don’t want to be gullible. You just never know if the internet could be lying… But if it’s true, I’ll definitely miss Beth Phoenix. One of the most talented, dominnant WWE Divas to have ever competed in the WWE.

  • WhalenX12

If she gets a retirement match/promo, I think I’d cry. Beth is my top diva, and I’d hate to see her go. I hope she goes out good. Unlike the bellas.

  • WweLitafan4ever

I could see her leaving like Victoria did.

  • https://twitter.com/MortSansMaryse MortSansMaryse

J’en crois pas… It became real… Beth Phoenix is going to leave WWE. The only thing that I want for WWE is just not to let her go. Even WWE has Paige, Audrey Marie, Nattie, Tamina, Eve, Raquel Diaz and so on, there is a wall that nobody can’t break without Bethy. Former 3 times women’s champ, 1 time divas champ and the slammy award winner, she is also the only one can replace all the divas records. This is a bad karma. And lastly, who knows WWE will release other divas? They released Caylee, Sofia, Kharma. Though they are great wrestlers. Bad karma…

    • Lanoom

“They released Caylee, Sofia, Kharma. Though they are great wrestlers.”

      Caylee: Disagree. Strongly.
      Sofia: Agree.
Kharma: Done in by her own hand, nothing WWE did.

      • https://twitter.com/MortSansMaryse MortSansMaryse

I didn’t know that Kharma walked out on WWE by herself. I heard that WWE had given her a little quest to lose her weight, but Kharma hadn’t been able to complete it, so they had released her. And Caylee… Well, I think you’re exactly right. Cause I don’t know much about her. And Sofia… Nooooo

        • YouCanLookButYouCan’tTouch

With Kharma, they released her because they wanted her to have some time off to get herself together both physically and emotionally due to her pregnancy and miscarriage.

        • Lanoom

She wasn’t able to comply with the request to lose weight because of depression from miscarriage, and depression from miscarriage is what caused her to gain weight. It also reportedly made her difficult to work with.

It was also her choice (which I support, not holding this against her at all) to get pregnant.

        • YouCanLookButYouCan’tTouch

Oh absolutely. Hopefully she’ll return in the future because WWE seemed extremely HIGH on her. Plus, she could fill a big time void in the divas division IF Beth is actually leaving.

    • Harry

Outstanding WWE women include the talented, beautiful, exciting Emma (Tenille Tayla ) rockin’ the Indian Death Lock.

  • shannymac

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • ATDG123

So sad to see that the divas are leaving the WWE i don’t want the division to dissapear but it looks like all the divas are just quitting maybe because of the 2 mins they give them for every match!

  • LukeRW84

I just pray that the WWE gives she a better departure, then they did with her career recently. Beth Phoenix is my FAVORITE Diva, Its gonna Suck to see her leave. GLAMAZON FAN 4 LIFE.

  • shannymac

I really hope they give her a good farewell moment. Let her and Nattie go at it and put on the stellar match that most of us have been hoping, wishing, and praying for.

    • ballplayer10123

Have Beth vs Nattie Main Event Raw, or more likely Smackdown. They would easily be capable of doing just that and stealing the show.

I think that is what pisses me off the most about the way the WWE has booked both Beth and Nattie for the majority of the last year or more. These two girls could easily put on 3* or even 4* matches with just about any halfway competent Diva on the roster. Yet, the WWE wasted all that time with 30-70 second matches, no storylines or ones that did not make sense. Dropped champions and storylines for weeks at a time. The WWE lost me as a viewer because of the all around awful nature of Raw during that time. I understand you guys dont know me personally, but it would take a pretty big screw up to get me to stop watching wrestling; and WWE managed to get me to stop.

I’m back to watching consistently now that Raw is three hours, and the show actually makes sense. Now they actually have ample time to follow through on storylines, and manage time a bit better.

The Divas could have been given five to seven minutes of time every week during the DOD storyline and Beth and Nattie could have delievered, instead we got muck. I say let Beth vs Nattie happen and give it like 8-10 minutes on a Raw or Smackdown. Let Beth and Nattie go for a 5*, if they fall a little short, the match will still likely be great.

  • mikeparis18

Would love to have Beth move in as challenger to lose then put her career on the line for one more shot against Eve only to lose again. Would suck but would give Eve a huge push, it would be even better if in Buffalo. In a perfect world it would be Natalya vs Beth but the way they treated their characters,I wouuld doubt it.

    • revivingophelia

That would be an interesting way to end her run with the WWE… and have her put someone over in a big way as she left. Also, Eve and Beth have had good matches in the past (most notably Vengeance last year), so they could definitely do something good if given the time.

  • Lanoom

Just for fun, let’s see how this affects WWE13:

    Beth Phoenix – Gone?
    Brie Bella – Gone
    Nikki Bella – Gone
    Kharma – Gone
    Kelly Kelly – Hiatus
    Lita (Attitude) – Retired
    Lita (Modern) – Retired
    Trish Stratus – Retired
Stephanie McMahon (Attitude) – Current Non-Wrestler
AJ Lee – DLC, Current Non-Wrestler
Natalya – Active & Not Included, Possible DLC
Tamina – Active & Not Included, Possible DLC
Kaitlyn – Active & Not Included, Possible DLC
Layla – Active & Not Included, Possible DLC (Double Fun: Was the Champion as of the roster reveal, for a lengthy amount of time)
    Eve – Active & Included
Alicia Fox – Active & Included
    Naomi – Non-Wrestler, Entrance Prop
    Cameron – Non-Wrestler, Entrance Prop
Vickie – Not Included, Non-Wrestler, Possible DLC

Not that I’m unhappy with the roster selection (I’m quite pleased, actually), but I just want to allow readers to soak in a point.

  • http://twitter.com/rodneyclint rodneyclint

Damn, if true that sucks. But at the sane time, WWE seems to have lost interest in pushing her or giving her anything so I understand. I hate the state of women’s wrestling right now, it’s like no one sees their worth. Trish is my all time favorite superstar, not just Diva, and I connected to that character like no other. The girls can do it but it’s like they are blind to it these days and don’t allow them the opportunities like they used to. It’s a damn shame because a lot of them have the potential to be amazing.

    • ballplayer10123

Agreed. The WWE are fools about women wrestling.

  • kreece

If this actually is true then it’s such a shame. She has had a great run in the WWE and has done it all. Lets just hope that if she does retire, she announces it with Natalya on RAW, and asks her if she’d take the honour of having one last match with her. Let them have a match lasting for as long as a main event match, if not the main event match! And have Beth eventually gain the upper hand and win, with both her and Natalya celebrating at the end

  • ajfan83

Every diva has a shelf life. 6-7 years seems to be the max for them, and you’ll notice that even the biggest stars in the division were gone at that point. The only thing that varies is who terms it’s on, the talent or the company.

Without being accused of bashing Beth, I think it’s silly to expect her to get a sendoff. When Trish and Lita left, they were still considered the top divas, and were over enough where you could make $$$ off a final match. Beth has been treated like a jobber over the past year and never was a draw to begin with. I think if she gets anything it will be like Victoria’s last match.

    • Lanoom

Agreed, I’m expecting a Victoria send-off, putting over whoeevr Eve will be facing for her title (probably Layla, mmaaaaybe Kaitlyn), followed by farewell.

I would say that it’d be super awesome for her to pull a Gail Kim, but that’s not gonna happen if the report that she’s given notice is true.

      • norisclouds

And word is, with Victoria they even asked her to stay longer to give her a true send off, asking if she would stay for 3 or 4 more months, but she turned them down and said she had to go…it was very last minute, which was why it came off that way on television. Contract negotiations usually start 6 months in advance, and with the death in Beth’s family + other television absences, it’s likely that management knew Beth was winding down and this would be her last year regardless. It’s too bad, going to miss her, but she’s had a pretty full career in a division that she’s been around long enough to see transform into whatever it is today.

        • Londonboy

They never asked her to stay longer so they could give her a proper send off stop making stuff up.
Victoria had another 2 years left on her contract that broke so she
could do other things.even if she had stayed for the rest of contract her send off would have been the same or she might not even of got one at all .
As amazing as Tara she was never going to get a send off like Trish Stratus did

        • ajfan83

Yeah, I don’t see them making a big deal out of Victoria’s departure, either. I COULD see them giving her a one month title push that ended with her putting over the current champ at the time (honestly don’t remember), but there was never going to be any big promos or tribute packages to her career. She was midcarder even by diva standards, sort of like Beth at this point.

  • kreece

Again, IF this is true, there will be another spare place on the roster. So it would not surprise me if they called up an NXT diva or had Naomi wrestle.

    • WWFoverWWE

yes to the naomi part lol

  • WWFoverWWE

HA I made a comment in the smackdown spoilers post saying Beth and Nattie are on borrowed time and I got replies saying that they will never leave on their own. Who’s laughing now huh?

Anyway the Mickie/Melina/Beth era is officially over now, which is really sad :(

    • Kessuki

haha i know right, i was the only one to agree with you and say beth would quit within 18 months along with natalya. now natalya hasn’t left YET but its only a matter of time considering beth was her bff and that natalya herself hasnt received a title push since she dropped it.

    • MNM4ever

:( So sad ayye i loved the melina/mickie/beth era,, it gave us great feuds and matches like the triple threats they had at raw and judgement day! and it gave us the unforgettable i quit match between melina and beth and their match at royal rumble. It gave us the wrestling showcase at backlash between melina and mickie. and who could forget the intensity that melina and mickie brought to every match they ever had (even the ones on heat lol) Not to forget that wwe actually gave us an intriguing storyline when melina and beth (who were once best friends) had a fallout after melina tried to hit mickie with her boot but accidentally hit beth (that was hilarious). It was great when beth walked out on melina and then melina confronted beth only to be pummeled by beth. And ill never ever forget the raw after one night stand where it was melina and mickie (strangee seeing them as a tag team)vs katie and beth. and melina had such a strong expression on her face and she just wanted a piece of beth so badly. the pop she got from the crowd when she jumped on beth was so loud!!!
but yeahh, im not surprised about beth leaving,, sad but she’s been there a long time

    • ajfan83

There was no Mickie/Melina/Beth “era”. It was a short transitional period between the time Trish and Lita quit until McCool’s push began. If I had to compare them to the guys, it was like Bret Hart’s run in the mid 90s, or HHH’s run from 2003-3006. Pretty good in their own right, but essentially keeping the throne warm for the next big star. And it ended quite some time ago.

      • ajfan83

Oops, I meant HHH’s run from 2003-2006, not 3006! It only felt like a thousand years.
