Sara Del Rey To Be WWE Developmental Trainer

As reported earlier this week, Sara Del Rey has finalized her deal with WWE.

It now appears that the former independent veteran, who already resides in Tampa, Florida, home of WWE’s developmental territory, NXT, has reported to the territory.

Additionally, it looks as though Del Rey will be working as a trainer in NXT.

In a new Tout video message sent out by NXT trainer, Bill DeMott, Del Rey appears in an NXT t-shirt along with fellow trainers Norman Smiley and Joey Mercury promoting an upcoming tryout camp.

The caption for the video reads: “Here are the Coaches, where are the future superstars?”

At this time it’s unclear whether Del Rey will also appear in WWE as a wrestler, but our fingers are certainly crossed!

WTF! I hope this isn’t true. Maybe she was a wrestler and a trainer as well.

    • Raekon

It is true, it was state since the beginning that she got signed as a trainer.

    • norisclouds

It was never said by anyone that she would be a wrestler. Only fans assumed this…all of the backstage sources said trainer. She was rejected for almost a decade because she didn’t have the “look” they wanted. That hasn’t changed at all–maybe it will in the next 2 years as they see her usefulness, but as of now her role will be getting a steady paycheck working with the women they’ve selected for the division.

  • bromero329

they could just feature her on raw or smackdown and not have her do houseshows so she could train ppl at nxt when she isnt on the road.

  • SherriShepherdWWE

sounds gooooood, cant wait to see what Sara teaches the new divas :), i also think we will be seeing Sara wrestle, i think she will end up wrestling for a little while and then just become a full time trainer, but still cant wait to see what she teaches the new girls :)

so happy with WWE :), Sara Del rey = diva division improvement :)

  • MNM4ever

OH MY GOD!!! thats JOEY MERCURY IN THE MIDDLE :D miss him so much,, he was awesome as part of MNM!!!!!!!!!!!! :’)

  • charleshp

well it would explain the prolonged absence and the medical checks.

  • jcarcano12

    Future diva championship

  • WWFoverWWE

I knew it. The signing seemed way too good to be true. We can’t forget that this is WWE afterall :)

  • shannymac

Well, I’m sure Sara as a trainer would be good for the developmental Divas, but I’d rather see her in the ring. I think it would be an utter waste for someone who has worked as hard as she has, for as long as she has, to not get the chance to show that off to a world wide audience.

Maybe I’m still emotional after watching Beth and Nattie, but I can’t help but feel so pessimistic about the future of the Divas. The fact that Beth, who has always been so obviously passionate and dedicated to wrestling and WWE, is voluntarily leaving just speaks volumes to me about what is going on behind the scenes.

Maybe shes just going to help the nxt divas then move into a wrestling role….shes only 31 so she still could wrestle for wwe….

    • Like Mike

31 is actually pretty old for a diva, Victoria staying as long as she did was a rarity. The normal diva leaves around the time she’s thirty from what I’ve seen. Layla is the oldest diva on the roster from my knowledge.

      • AfroJack

Ivory and Jackie didn’t leave until they were well into their 40s.

        • Crazy_J

Gail was well past 30 as well.

        • Like Mike

The average diva in this day and age, Jackie and Ivory were wrestlers. In the past 8 years or so the roster went through it’s mainly “model” stage and they have shorter careers.

  • queennattie

I’m just sad because you know she wishes really badly that she could be a WWE diva. :(

I think she can be a monster heel but WWE will never use her. Who knows, maybe they can bring her up in the main roster one day but idk. At least she’s getting some good money, right?

Plus another positive is that they have THE Sara Del Rey teaching them the ropes! :)))

  • redsandman99

There’s still a chance she could be brought into the ring and have a good run. Maybe being a trainer is just a part of the deal. Hell, Finlay was an agent for years and then WWE put him in an on air role for several years. It is possible that they could decide to do so.

  • ShimmerSupport211

people who are upset that she is a trainer… that isn’t a bad thing. being a trainee of this woman is a great chance. we can’t guarantee she would be used right as an active wrestler anyway

  • carlos22

This just ruins my perfect Friday… Beth Vs Natalya, Kelly Released…..then this? Why can’t they put her in the ring???

  • AssaultDriver720

If she just wanted to wrestle and not train wrestlers then she would have not sign.

  • Dave Muscarella

While, I want to see her wrestle on TV/PPV, I am happy she is finally with WWE. As a trainer, she doesn’t have to travel, less wear & tear on her body, and she probably qualifies for benefits which normal wrestlers gotta pay for themselves. So, in the long run, this is a much better job for her.

Personally, I am just happy if SHE is happy. This might be the best thing for her.

  • http://vetaj.blogspot.com NurseBetty

She could be like Jillian was, train the divas in/on NXT and appear on main roster.

    • VarsityBaseDude

Hopefully she don’t end up being used like Jillian

      • http://vetaj.blogspot.com NurseBetty

        Yeah, well….

  • shameronstar

Audrey Marie, Summer Rae, Charlotte, and Anya are going to learn so much from this woman since they are in the rookie phases of their careers and have plenty of extra room for improvement! Paige, Emma, and Skyler Moon(hope she comes back well from rehab) can even further there skills. and Hopefully, Mercedes KV and Rachelle St. Clair(if she is even still or ever was signed) when they come to NXT will improve more as well! Originally, I was starting to think that eventually they wanted Naomi to become a diva’s trainer because she did Sofia’s tryout match and I believe she trained with Layla before she came back and most likely played a role in Layla’s wrestling being even better than its ever been!

    • Like Mike

Considering Naomi has only been at it for a couple years, on paper she has not business training anyone. I think that because shes such a solid worker though, they put her in the ring for tryouts and what not because she will work well with anyone.

  • richies88

whole fuck. the wwe is getting worse. why on earth are they refusing to use the women who are talented. I know sex sell but seriously.

  • javiousmckenzie

Some times i just have to sit back and smirk when reading these comments diva fans well fans period read what they want yo and run with what they want to i know someone other than me read online in reports that she was being hired to train the females i read it on several sites the sites that posted she was hired but it seem like fans overlooked that report and just ran with what they wanted too

  • http://twitter.com/DirrtySexyFunny Thaila

On the contrary to several other comments on here, her being a trainer is great. Who better to teach women to wrestle than the greatest women’s wrestler alive? It’d be nice to see her as Divas Champion but this is just as great. Also, I’d rather not see said Greatest Women’s Wrestler alive in 3 minute toilet break matches.

  • Aria–

I could still see Sara Del Rey wrestling on the main roster as well. I have a tough time believing she would take this contract knowing she’d only be a trainer. They must have sweetened the deal.

  • WaitingForSundae

I see a few people understand Sara being a trainer is a good thing so at least I’m not alone.

Why on earth would you want her wrestling on Raw or Smackdown right now? That’s just short term thinking. Do you think she’s going to have classic matches with Alicia Fox or Layla?

By training the Divas on NXT, Sara will be creating not only a bunch of women who can actually wrestle and rejuvenate the division, but making it so in a year or two she can wrestle and have opponents worth wrestling.

  • aunt.dot

according to wnw.com triple h have a big plan for the divas division. just like the way he’s building the tagteam division. around next year.

  • bxradimus

I hope she is also on the main roster. It would be a crime to not get to see Del Rey wrestle anymore.

  • charovnica

This is great opportunity for her nonetheless,I’m glad for her!Of course I wouldn’t mind seeing her wrestle, but I think this is amazing as well and may lead to creating a better female division.
