At its root, wrestling has always been about good vs evil, bad guys vs good guys — or in our case, bad girls vs good girls.
In a brand new feature at Diva Dirt, we want you to help us pick wrestling’s best mean girl. Now, there is a clear distinction between a mean girl and your regular “heel”. When we say “mean girl” we refer to the women in wrestling who were feisty, vindictive, acid-tongued and bitchy! They may not necessarily be the toughest, or the baddest, but they certainly had tons of personality.
Based on your nominations, we picked the 16 most mentioned women in wrestling to advance to our knock-out bracket tournament. Keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks as you will be asked to vote between some of wrestling’s best mean girls and help us whittle it down from just 16 to one!

Grand Final: After nearly two months of voting, we are down to just two: Melina and Stephanie McMahon. In the semi-finals it was a close call for both ladies; Melina narrowly beat Trish with 51% to 49%, while Stephanie beat LayCool with 53% to 47%. Based on that, we expect it to be neck-and-neck now in this final vote for the crown of Wrestling’s Best Mean Girl. Will it be the fiery hellcat or the Billion Dollar Princess?

Wow no she didn’t. Are you the same mark that says Stratus outpopped Sunny, Sable, Lita and Chyna? Trish was a good and entertaining heel, but the Mean Girl qualities seem to be natural for Melina and Stephanie McMahon. I honestly didn’t expect this to be the final two, although I was hoping for it..because if I’m being fair in my honest heart and mind…these two are truly the meanest..so I’m happy about it. I’m gonna make a final prediction, I think the meanest girl ever, has to undoubtedly be Stephanie McMahon. Melina comes a very close second, but the Billion Dollar Princess is the biggest bitch, by default maybe? Don’t know, but she is the Queen of Mean.

Trish was the greatest heel Diva in the history of the WWE. She had the most legendary Diva’s match of all time as a heel with Lita. She carried 5-6 minute promo’s by herself and was absolutely amazing. Trish’s work with Christian & Jericho also sh’its on anything Melina has ever done with MnM. Same for Trish and Viscera. No one cares about a stupid entrance with her panties out. What did that do for women’s wrestling?… Nothing.

I love how Trish fans throw the word “jealous” around every time she loses something. Lita wins the Raw poll, so naturally it’s because everyone is jealous of Trish. It can’t possibly be because they prefer someone else over her. Let’s be honest, has Trish ever won a poll that wasn’t predetermined? WWE even had to change the results for the Raw 15th anniversary poll for hottest diva because she finished in a distant 3rd. Trish is Vince McMahon’s “Mary Sue”. Not so much with the fans.
Anyway, between the two finalists, my vote goes to Stephanie. Much like her dad, she was possibly the best heel to ever be in WWE. Steph is like a Vickie Guerrero with talent. Melina is a natural b***h, just look at all the stories about her over the years, but her character was never half as important to the product as Stephanie. This should be a blowout.

The Raw poll was about THE GREATEST RAW DIVA EVER. Facts are facts. Lita was out with neck injuries and torn ACL’s while Trish was re-defining women’s wrestling with the likes of Molly, Jazz and Victoria. How on earth was Lita “THE BEST” Raw Diva when she spent the MAJORITY of her career managing The Hardy’s, Edge and Kane and spending enormous amounts of time out with injuries? Without Trish, we never even would have HAD a “Golden Era” of women’s wrestling. It was TRISH who inspired the WWE to take a risk and put actual time and proper feuds into women’s wrestling. When Lita was the top Diva before her broken neck, we had 2-3 minute hair toss matches on HEAT. Give me a BREAK.
And Melina, a better heel than Trish? HAH. Melina is amazing in every way possible but NOTHING compared to Trish, as a heel OR as a face. Trish’s promo’s with Christy, her Highlight Reel appearances, her flawless iconic match with Lita, her amazing hilariously funny backstage segments, her angle with Viscera, turning on Jericho – even the way she taunted and raised the championship above her head. That little smirk on her face and the way she bowed and taunted the crowd. I’m sorry but Melina could NEVER.
And Stephanie deserves it, I’m a Trish fan but I’ll be the FIRST to admit that no one TOUCHES Stephanie McMahon on the mic. Her segments are absolutely hilarious and perfect, especially during the Alliance era.

What’s the diffrence between “Greatest” and “Best”? Point is, Lita would win either way. Trish was always more popular with management than she was with the fans (which is why she has done better in business than her peers). The crowd never took to her like they did Lita, Chyna, Sable. Let’s not forget her last few months in WWE saw the fans cheering for her heel rival, Mickie, on most nights.
Find a poll Trish won that wasn’t rigged and I’ll give you a cookie. Even this site is guilt of it. Look at the mixed reaction to her winning the Legacy award. For everyone that praised her, someone else called it a joke. Whether you choose to acknowledge that is up to you.

It’s ten years later and someone is still pissing on themselves over whose better; Trish or Lita. Lets face facts.. they were both something important the division wouldn’t be the way it was without either of them whether we like it or not. I am not a Trish fan at all, but this Lita/Trish shit is been there, done that. Lita should’ve won, Trish should’ve won.. Lita won, get over it she was awesome while she was in WWE, she had a bigger fan base, and her fans aren’t hateful and if they are it’s cuz someone gotta be dissing her all the time. The fans turned their backs on Lita because of the whole Edge thing and she turned heel.. they turned their backs on Trish because Mickie was simply better.

Also.. IDK what heat matches you were watching.. but check some older ones out or something because I recall Lita getting involved in A LOT of good matches and doing A LOT of cool moves that she didn’t use in her later career. Jazz and Victoria are exactly the reason Trish matches were a lot longer.. so thank you for explaining it was all because of Trish.. like I said I agree the division wouldn’t have been the same without her, but you’re acting like she did it all by herself and thats not fair to the likes of Molly, Victoria, Jazz OR Lita.

I’m with you 100%, and I hope your comments weren’t directed at me. I don’t know why some (not all) of Trish and Lita fans insist on debating their merits in 2012. Both of them have moved on from wrestling. Most of the people that watched during their era have moved on from wrestling. I just brought Lita up to show that Trish is not unbeatable in fan-based polls. In fact, when it’s up to the fans, she loses more often than not. I get tired of her more rabid fans throwing scripted awards, the “golden era” nonsense, and best of all, mentioning stuff she’s done outside of wrestling as proof that she’s this untouchable god diva. As if any current WWE fan gives a crap about Canadian fashion magazines or yoga studios. Right…

Okay by your logic Trish is the reason her matches with Lits were amazing Lita, the woman who worked her ass off to even get into WWE, oppossed to trish who got the job based on her looks before she even had one match in her entire life!!!! You my friend need some help cause it wasn’t just Trish who made the golden era of Women’s Wrestling it was Lita a helluva a lot more!!! Lita did manage most of her career one of the one tag teams ever in The Hardy’s and at the time futer Hall of Famers in Edge and Kane and she got all these injuries, minus the broken neck, proving that the girls could go up against the guys!!
Correct me if i’m wrong but wasn’t it Lita who took countless chair shots from Stone Cold Steve Austin or did Trish just due her hair for the night!!!! Again correct me if I’m wrong but was it Trish that had an awesome match with possible the best technaical wrestler in the world in Dean Malenko!!

And before you pull the main event match Lita was in the main event with Stephanie and the Rock before it was Trish and her!!

Why don’t we give credit where it’s due? BOTH Trish AND Lita worked TOGETHER to build something formidable. They both helped build a tougher division and open doors. To descredit them both, when they even admit it was working TOGETHER to make a product is just ignorance, I’m sorry. I love them both equally and reality of the situation both gave equal amount of foreground.
Do I think Melina should’ve made this far? Not necissarily but even if TRish was in the final round, I’d give it to Stephanie. Simply because maintained her “Mean Girl” persona to the end. Trish eventually went on and stayed the female face of WWE. “Mean Girls” to me, are bitchy, catty and can’t be bothers to get to roughed up which was totally Trish in her debut but Stephanie took that persona and just never really let it go.
Also, I want to add, I’m not attacking you. I value your opinion and am just sharing mine. I just think to put Trish so over and discredit Lita or really any Diva of that era is just ludocris. Trish is more than her share but please don’t over look anyone else.

I’m one of the biggest Trish fans out there, but no one outbitched Stephanie.
This is the woman who was so evil, the entire roster (save for the McMahon-Helmsley regime) walked out on her. This is the woman who slapped her own mom across the face and verbally abused her while comatose. She dumped excrement all over Trish Stratus. She tortured Lita for kicks. She bullied the Rock, played Kurt Angle like a sap to do her bitch work, tortured Mick Foley for fun, and stole the entire company from her father because he pissed her off. No one was more bitchy and just plain mean than Stephanie. Stephanie created the mean girl personna and she worked it like a champ.

So happy, but now I have no idea who to vote for. Both were the queens of mean during their time, but I feel like Melina was more “mean.” Stephanie was more intimidating then mean, but she was still the spoiled little rich brat. This one is definitely hard, but I’m gonna go with Melina.
Stephanie KNEW she was at the top. No matter what happened, she was always going to come out on top because she was the boss’ daughter. She was the.. well, princess of WWE. So even if she lost a little battle, she could still have you fired and well, then she’d win the war.
With Melina, she BELIEVED she was the HBIC in the WWE. And she basically bullied any other Diva, because in order for it to be true, they needed to believe it too. A mean girl, in my opinion, is someone who doesn’t need a reason to bully and attack other people. She just does it because she can and she needs something to do/she needs that power over that person. If you think about it, when Melina first came on the scene.. she didn’t really have a REASON to start a mini-feud with Torrie. She didn’t have a reason to go after Torrie, but she saw the opportunity to blindside Torrie and she did it. Same with Candice (not when they were fighting over the title, but on SD.. when Candice was still unknown)… she didn’t have a reason to attack Candice. But she saw the opportunity to make an example out of her and she did just that.
Melina is the ultimate mean girl when it comes to WWE and even someone who does not like her personally has to admit that… during her time, she was THAT bitch. Say what you want about her off-screen (despite not even knowing her personally), but there’s no denying that Melina was one of the best heel divas we’ve seen in WWE, not just in recent years… but ever.
Oh and since I am on the subject, for those who are complaining Trish should have been in Melina’s spot… no. Trish was a great heel, but she was far from a mean girl. Her face run(s) will always be more memorable, just because that’s the legacy WWE let her go out on. The fan-favorite who showed everyone that you can start at the bottom, but with some hard work.. you can go out on top. She’s the ultimate underdog, but that’s not what this is about.

MELINA WAS THE ULTIMATE MEAN GIRL! everything she did as a heel was on point and highly entertaining. Her intense bitch slaps (especially the one to maria), the way she would constantly scream at ringside for MNM, how she helped MNM cheat in almost every match they won (including their first tag title victory) and she helped get NItro with his two interontinental title (where she cheated often and on one occasion even faked ankle injury so that sh could take off her boot and whack jeff with it :D)
And then who could forget how MNM kidnapped trish and melina even had the segment with trish saying that it was ‘a passing of the torch moment’. Also melina was such a bitche to christie in 2005 and then obviously hated the playboy firls (candice, ashley, maria). Also as a heel, the intensity she showed in her feud with mickie was truly captivating. Melina showed how to be a proper ‘mean girl’ in the feud constantly hair pulling and having high intensity matches with mickie james. Melina also was a grat heel in her second heel run where she slapped Natalya but wwe never fully invested into the storyline :L BUT melina did show how good of a heel she can be on superstars in her matches with gail kim.
SO MY VOTE IS DEFINITELY WITH ME MELINA. everything about her heel character was PERFECTION- Her look (short skirt), entrance, mannerisms (in and out of the ring), ring moveset (so many impactful, (devastating heel moves) and promo’s.
As a heel melina truly was the full package.
