This week the Kaitlyn/Night of Champions mystery takes a backseat, as #1 contender for the Divas Championship, Layla faces off against habitual flip-flopper, Alicia Fox in singles action. Can Layla takes out the Foxy One, or can Alicia manage to sneak out the win and work her way into the title picture? Check out the match below and find out:
Out first is the #1 contender, Layla, who is all smiles. On the other hand, Alicia Fox is all attitude and sass, as she saunters down the ramp. The referee *coughBRADMADDOXcough* signals for the bell and our Divas match is underway.
The Divas lock up to kick things off, but Layla immediately converts into a school boy pin for a nearfall, followed by a modified arm drag. Alicia retreats to the corner, prompting Layla to give chase, but Alicia evades and goes for her signature split-legged Sunset Flip. Unfortunately for Fox, Layla rolls through drills her in the face with a dropkick. As Alicia scrambles to her feet, Layla smacks her butt and Alicia is not amused.
Layla hits a forearm, before whipping Alicia off of the ropes. Alicia reverses it, but Layla counters with a slick rollup for another nearfall. Layla tries to land a kick to the gut, but Alicia scouts it and goes right for her bad knee. Alicia continues to work over the bad knee, but Layla manages to get back to vertical base and lands a couple of strikes before Alicia takes out her knee once again, sending her crashing down to the mat.
Alicia pulls Layla back to her feet and hits a beautiful Northern Lights suplex for a one-count, before locking in a modified spinning toehold submission. After a failed pin attempt, Alicia converts into an unorthodox, yet effective cloverleaf-ish submission, but the referee catches her holding the ropes for extra leverage, and makes her break the hold.
Layla tries to mount a comeback with a flurry of kick, but get tossed into the corner by Alicia. Alicia comes charging, but Layla takes her legs out from under her, lands a springboard crossbody, but is unable to capitalize due to her injured knee. Alicia goes for the knee once more, but Layla spins away and nails her with a roundhouse kick to pick up the win.
Post-match, Layla gets on the mic and puts Divas Champion Eve Torres on notice, basically letting her know that she’s going to get her title back.
Thoughts: While there wasn’t much focus on the Kaitlyn attack storyline, this match put some hype into the impending Eve/Layla title rematch, which is a good thing. After seeing Eve and Layla’s fantastic match on Superstars last week, I’m hoping that they can recreate the magic when the title is on the line.
As for this match, I really liked it. Layla is really coming into her own as a singles competitor, even though I feel she can be a bit bland as a babyface. I’d like to see her show a bit more fire and intensity as she pursues the championship, because from a fan’s perspective, I just don’t feel like she really wants it.
As for Alicia, I’m digging her whole tweener position in the division, even if it can be a bit confusing at times. Alicia kind of puts me in the mind of Nidia of Tough Enough fame. She consistently put on solid matches and works well with most of the other Divas, but can never seem to get herself into the title picture. That goes double for Natalya. However, unlike Nidia, I think both these Divas will get themselves a decent run sooner or later, especially with the sudden purge of the division lately.
Well, that’s all for the Divas this week! Here’s to hoping we get to the bottom of this Diva attacker business next week!

going back to the way Smackdown! used to be with long matches :D

I liked the match. Alicia Fox is great as a heel and it’s really nice to see Layla actually get some mic time. Things are picking up and hopefully they continue to give the divas time on the shows.
Eve and Teddy also had a segment backstage. I’m interested on how that will play out too. It’s really fun to see Eve constantly get the upper hand over Teddy.

Layla is getting more blonde every time i see her. Does anyone else think wwe is going to try and turn her into kelly as the top baby face? I mean the butt smacking and all looks pretty clear… if she starts doing the stink face i will die lol.

I enjoyed the match. It’s good to see them putting some hype into the Layla/Eve rematch. I heard a rumor about it taking place at Hell in a Cell but with the Kaitlyn factor I don’t see the one on one match taking place that far down the road. However, given that they’ve started booking Layla, Eve and Kaitlyn in triple threat matches on house shows, I could see that taking place at the ppv.

too bad there wasn´t much developement on the “who did attack Kaitlyn” story, apart some references in the backstage segment between Eve and Teddy Long, which i hope that confrontation between the two lead to something.
the match was ok,nothing special, that served the purpose of keeping Layla relevant in the story.
i smell a triple threat between Eve,Layla and Kaitlyn with Beth Phoenix as special referee.

I swear Alicia must be taking a leaf out of Mitt Rombey’s book with all this flip-flopping lol. That being said, these past two weeks, the divas have been ALL bringing it! Each one featured has taken the ball and ran with it in their recent matches. And once again, Alicia Fox surprises me with a spectacular performance. I think she’s a good wrestler, but a lot of her matches are hit or miss, and this definitely was a hit. I also like the build for Eve and Layla and the build for Kaitlyn’s storyline which was put over on commentary and with the help of Teddy Long. Maybe the WWE has FINALLY gotten their heads out of their asses and realised divas can be assets too? I hope they keep up the good work!

LAWLS to the mitt/alicia flip-flopping…

Watching their matched now compared to a few years ago, both women have greatly improved :) I always loved Alicia and seeing how much she’s improved since she debuted makes me smile. Nothing against K2 but Alicia has far outshone her when it came to improving. Alicia is able to make laugh and also make think “girl, that was an awesome/bitchy move you just did” I loved her matches with Natayla (especially the bitch-slaps!). I must point out Layla becoming a singles competitor has done her the world of good, she’s come completely into her own now and has this new an unique moveset! I love watching her because she tends to surprise me with what she does next. I have this constant bet going with my sister, Will Layla do the LayOut or the Bombshell Kick? (She won today -_-) only thing i have an issue with is the fact she needs more mic-time!! I love listening to Layla (Alicia & Natayla) speak.

Good match between the two but the big notable thing here is the mic time layla got at the end AND IT WAS NOT BACKSTAGE!…are they actually going to allow the crowd to get behind layla ..and giving her a reason and motivation? because I am damn shocked lol.
As good as the match was it was the mic time that took me by surprise because it is like every 3 centuries does WWE ever allow a diva to have mic time..specially in ring mic time but than gawd they did and that it was layla that got the development.

Its funny how Alicia was acting like a face in her entrance but wrestled like a heel! Also, is it just me or did Layla not look very amused when Alicia was making her entrance?

Yeah I noticed that, it was a fun thing to see and adds a unique dimension to Alicia. I also loved how commentary talked about it, and hyped up the fact that Alicia is an instigator and helps provoke problems backstage. Foxy isnt just another generic heel diva, she’s sassy and spunky and has lots of energy. Gotta love her.

Layla vs Brooke will be Good

The match was excellent. Alicia and Layla ar growing so much as wrestlers. The have to much to give. The match was a little bit slow at some points but it was excellent.
Just two things:
- Layla should stop wearing extensions, i mean, just take a look at 2:14
- Why Michael Cole always has to comment about other superstars when the divas are on action!!! I know he didn’t comment about it the whole match but come on!! He doesn’t talk about Kaitlyn and the other divas when the Big Show is wrestling…..

Why does Layla cry every time she wins a match now? She acts like she won Divas Championship again….she did the same on Superstars v.s. Eve

The match was okay I guess, but it was a little awkward. These two have had better matches than this one.
Loved Layla’s look :)

I actually didnt like the match. It had too many awkward moments. I’ve kinda lost hope in Alicia, it seems that she can only have a good match with natalya.

I’m getting tired of Layla I HATE how WWE pushes one Diva and shoves them down our throats and then come peak time no one likes her no more.

tbh she hasn’t been pushed down our throats anymore than AJ or Eve have or Kelly was last year.

I actually enjoyed this match…i think it was their best match together yet & i liked laylas white outfit & glad she switches the colors often….
i find it confusing alicia can tag with layla then they wrestle each other…

It fits Alicia’s character, a heel that plays up to the faces and instigates things.

The match had some akward moments that made it look a bit sloppy but all in all it was a great match will a lot of attitude there. :)
Alicia has turned into a great tweener in the meantime and the character fits her very well cause she gets to show her face and her heelish moments.
FINALLY they allowed a Diva to get some mic time and focus.
I mean Layla didn’t even got to speak when she was a champion so this is definately an improvement in booking when it comes to this.
The backstage segment solified again what I was predicting for months now.
Eve will first grab the championship, then she will make Teddy lose his job so she can take over and her final focus will be Bookers position.
Just wondering how far she will make it cause I see her losing her job after the mystery attacker is revealed.
Hope they will play it well out so she can remain as sneaky as she is. :)
I love the whole progression and that we actually have a real storyline that is going for weeks now for the divas.
Most of all since it involves several divas together instead of focusing on two and the title only.

I like the match but the crowd is super edited,it seems an insult to our intelligence -.-.Alicia is undervalued by WWE and some wrestling fans becuse for be pretty they think that she cant wrestler.

They are using the crowd cheers in ever match no matter if its a superstar or diva one.
You can tell if its the added one by the whistles at the end that are always the same so if you don’t hear these then you know its the real crowd that you hear. :p

How is it ridiculous? Lmao it’s the best move a diva has in her arsenal right now not including finishers.
Sorry if you would prefer stinkfaces and unrealistic whirlybird headscissors.

For me she does it to often and she never gets a pin off of it. I personally think it would be better if she only did it once in awhile. She does it every match and it becomes pointless because you know that the opponent will kick out of the move.
jayjayholler Reply:

Adam how on earth is that roll up and roll through realistic? I agree with ONETOOTH.
Marlon Eric Reply:
October 8th, 2012 at 5:12 pm
I agree, she does do it too much. She should just limit it every other match. And why on Earth does she add that ‘extra’ pin to a move that already concludes in a pin?
Oooh silly Layla.
at 9:34 pm
Imo Alicia is incredibly sloppy. She’s so flaily and spastic and oversells way too much. She couldn’t even simply be rolled up without looking sloppy. Again not trying to shade her but she really needs to work on being cleaner. Her moves are good and she’s good on offense but she can’t recieve moves very well.
Decent match. Love Layla’s hair/gear.
