On this day in history:
October 10th, 2005 | Trish Stratus successfully defended her Women’s Title against Victoria, but afterwards she she found herself on the receiving end of a beat down by the sore loser. Ashley Massaro attempted to make the save, but she too was beaten down. Suddenly, a mystery woman (Mickie James) appeared, knocking Victoria out of the ring and handing Trish her title belt. Her demeanor seemed to creep out Trish, but it wasn’t until Mickie introduced herself backstage that Trish had real reason to be weirded out. Mickie told Trish that she was Raw’s newest Diva and her biggest fan. She kissed Trish on the cheek and hugged her face before hurrying off, leaving her and Ashley in the considerable wake of her weirdness.

Oh yes, the beginning of one the best diva storylines ever!

Despite the fact that this storyline was a rehash of the Sable/Tori storyline from the Attitude Era, I enjoyed it; and Mickie (mostly Mickie since she MADE this storyline)!

It really wasn’t a rehash of Sable/Tori
It’s a Fan obsessed story but with an awesome twist

It was a really good storyline until Mickie’s obsession started morphing in to a lesbian crush. Once they went that route all the seriousness drained out of it, and you could see the fans siding more and more with the supposed heel. That led to the hilarious Wrestlemania match, with JR and Lawler freaking out on commentary (and supposedly Vince backstage) because Trish got booed out of the building. The feud just fizzled out after that.

Take notes AJ..
She probably has. She’s been doing awesome lately..

Ah the debut of my favorite DIVA ever.
A great Diva s/l. maybe one odf the best s/l’s ever.

One of the best Diva debuts, ever.
It had been first planned WAY back at the beginning of the year, with Mickie coming up with her debut angle as an obsessed Lita (the top babyface at the time) fan. But then, Lita had her knee injury, followed by her fall from grace with the fans. So, they waited until Trish returned from her own injury as a face.

Actually Mickie had planned for it to be Lita since then knew each other but Vince had other plans plus Trish is the one who asked for Mickie to be called up.

It wouldn’t have worked with Lita by that point. The fans had turned on her, remember. Matt Hardy screwed up a lot more things than Lita’s professional life with his little stunt.
Still, as we saw during the Mickie-Lita feud, Mickie didn’t have the chemistry with Lita that she had with Trish, so at least things worked out for the best in that respect.

I wouldn’t say that. I think had it been Lita and Mickie James it would have been a lot more interesting for the fans and not people complaining about Trish being so vanilla, just because Lita brings that little more to the table as far as personality and raw charisma.
I can just imagine the hilarious and exaggerated poses Mickie James would do to the ring pretending to be Lita…it would have been so funny as Lita looked on in bewilderment. This fued would have been perfect for Lita, had she not been injured or her personal life exposed after the Lita/Trish chapter of the time came to a close. Trish would have also taken her time off to heal and returned as the magnificent heel diva she was.
Let’s not forget Lita’s ring work was better during the time and she was at the peak of her popularity, I am certain the fans wouldn’t have turned on her the way they turned on Trish during the Mania match.
Mickie James is a very good actress and I would love for her to ressurect this character with someone in TNA…maybe Dixie Carter or Ivory or someone else? Maybe Chyna. Nevermind that wouldn’t work anymore. Meh

@Kharmic Heel
You must be the biggest fanboy on this site for any diva. I picture you rocking out to Luchagore music while typing that rant. Some reality:
1. Lita’s peak popularity was in 2000/2001. By 2005 she wasn’t getting those huge face reactions anymore. Being involved in some of the crappiest love angles in history with Kane, Matt Hardy, and Snitsky took away a LOT of her cool factor.
2. You talk about fans turning on Trish at Wrestlemania (which is 100% correct). Now picture that happening every single night, and you just described Lita for the last year of her career. Acting like the fans would have been more loyal to her is delusional.
3. Lita is one of the worst actresses I have ever seen in wrestling. Trish, while not great herself, is Meryl Streep in comparison. I doubt Lita would have gained any sympathy with her goofy attempts at being “serious”. Then again, you think Mickie can act, so…
The funniest thing about you is I’ve seen you compliment Trish in other posts. But god forbid somebody say Lita isn’t the best at something. You go on a tirade about how much Trish sucks. You, my friend, are a joke. I bet you’re one of those Youtube chumps that spends their day posting “Lita is the best” on every Lita AND Trish clip in sight and then gives yourself 50 thumbs ups.

Uh no…I think you’ve got a lot of time on your hands to think that bullshit up, yea that’s exactly what it is; load of crap.
First of all, if you weren’t blinded by YOUR obsession with Trish, you would see that I said HAD SHE NOT BEEN INJURED OR HAD HER PERSONAL LIFE EXPOSED, Lita would have been a better fit for the storyline than Trish, is just my opinion. Not my fault you shit your pants everytime someone prefers Lita over Trish. Let me clue you in so you won’t be so shocked for future postings in any random topic or discussion, there will be many more to comeso get the fuck over it. If not too damn bad.
About the popularity, she was the most over diva at the time anyway, so Lita/Mickie would have been interesting and finally about the acting..very subjective. You’re calling Trish a Streep when compared to Lita? That is you being a hater, because they were pretty even. Trish mostly played the sexual route, while Lita the cool girl role, so you saying that is just dumb. And yes, I like Trish Stratus a lot, but her acting IN MY OPINION is cringeworthy at times.
For example, I literally cringed when I saw some of her work on MadTV, Her Reality Role in the Search for the next Comic Star of Canada, her skit featured in the Viva Las Divas DVD and some of the Bail Enforcer scenes. Her best work though, is her being a heel in WWE both times. She was a natural. Again that’s my opinion, I don’t understand why you get so butthurt about posts. Skip them if they’re that offensive that you start insulting people. God forbid people think differently than you. Relax! :-P

@THE K@RMIC HEEL
One of the reasons I said it wouldn’t have worked as well with Lita was the fans DID turn on her because of Matt’s smear campaign. It happened, and there was no turning back the clock.
The other reason was that Lita & Mickie just didn’t have the chemistry with each other they each had with Trish. We know that because we saw their two month feud. Their matches were decent, but not nearly the best of either’s career. Some combinations work, others don’t.
The fans (at least the guys) wanted full scale HLA between Trish & Mickie. Of course, the Trish/Lita Ship has maintained popularity in the Fandom, as well. Maybe they just really like the idea of Trish & sexy girls, in general. :)
Regarding the face/heel thing, Trish is one of the few that can work both equally well. Lita can do both. Mickie’s a natural face, which is why she hasn’t played heel in over six years, now. Melina’s a natural heel, as much as she preferred playing babyface. Victoria/Tara gets her biggest pops as a heel, cheered more than when she’s actually playing the face (which probably explains why they’ve never known quite how to book her).

Percerval – Yes I realize we can’t turn back time, I am simply saying that if things had gone down differently with Lita (no injury, no smear campaign, the rumored Wrestlemania victory over Trish), a rivalry with Mickie James would have been a lot more interesting than it was with Trish Stratus. That is just my own take on it. Creatively speaking, I feel that there was a lot more to do with Mickie imitating Lita, especially possibly a lot of comedy skits. It would have been hilarious watching Mickie imitate Lita’s entrance or go after Matt Hardy, or get fake shoulder tattoos.
Trish was a good underdog babyface, but when competition was more level, it just made her seem unstoppable or something akin to SuperCena. From 2004 onward, I feel Trish was just too dominant and although she had some good matches with Victoria, we knew Trish would always win. That is why I think she was better suited as a heel for the latter part of her career. We could have possibly gotten more memorable heel Trish moments, had Lita not been forced into turning heel by the fans.
Again, this is all what if’s, but I think they’re not far fetched considering the circumstances at that time and that Mickie had originally hoped to do the storyline with Lita.

Yes, I’m such a biased Trish fan. That explains why I point out her flaws more than Lita’s (ask a Trish mark on this site what they think of me). I just hate blind devotion to ANY diva, acting like they are flawless and putting other girls down. You’ll notice that I usually never comment on AJ stuff, or how amazing she is, because I don’t want to be guilty of that very thing. Trish and Lita are both overrated, and Mickie hasn’t done anything of note since this debut storyline.

I’m not a blind mark. I have pointed out many flaws in Lita and other divas, but I don’t have to explain that to you just because you dismiss me as some crazed youtube person. I don’t even have a youtube account yet btw – that was a freebie.
Anyway I stand firnly behind my opinions that the obsessed stalker storyline would have been better off between Lita/Mickie, not because I prefer Lita..but because I think they were the best two divas for the story. That’s my take on it and I’m sorry if you think it is me being biased because its really not.

Fair enough, Karmic. I really need to stay away from these Trish/Lita debates. Their fans take this crap so personal. I think Lita is more popular amongst the wrestling fanbase, while Trish appeals more to people outside of the business/casual fans. Feel free to disagree.
at 12:20 am
while not loud Mickie did have a pop her debut night she became the third most over diva of that era (Trish and Lita being first two). Mickie also became a bigger star then she was on the indie and TNA scene.

I loved Mickie James’ WWE debut. It was the beginning of one of the best, funniest, weirdest diva storylines ever.lol.

And considering the whole Trish-Lita-Victoria storyline the previous year, this being one of the weirdest was saying something. After all, THAT one included the Jericho-Trish-Christian triangle, a demonic psychopath stalking, impregnating, & marrying Lita, and Steven Richards costing Victoria matches because he was mad at her leaving him… while frequently rescuing her in drag.
I wonder what the writers were on, back then? :)

Man, I feel you. I miss those days, then again what women’s wrestling fan doesn’t? It looks like the diva picture is picking up though, so perhaps finally…yes I know we’ve said it countless times but with Triple H pushing for tag teams and divas..we might FINALLY get more diva action! :-)
