In an interview with the sports blog With Leather, WWE Divas Champion Eve Torres opened up about a number of topics, most notably giving us a peek into the perspective of current WWE Divas.
When asked if she sees the Divas landscape changing with the departures of Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix, Eve says:
“It’s hard to say, because we never really know what they’re thinking. As much as people think we really know what’s going on, we really don’t. On Mondays at 4 PM, half the time I have no idea what’s going on. Right now, we have a great group of girls – hungry girls – who all want to contribute to the Diva division. That’s what I really care about. Obviously, I’m delighted that I’m part of an interesting storyline, but whatever I can do to help this division and get it back on top is just something that I – and all of the other girls – am willing to do, whether that means helping new talent that comes up or re-polishing the talent that already exists on the roster.”
On the possibility of another round of the Diva Search:
“Actually, there are a lot of rumors that they’re going to do another Diva Search, and I’m hoping that there is one. The WWE has found incredible female talent through the Diva Search, even it’s the women who are kind of casual fans and just aren’t sure if they can commit all the way or the women who are intimidated about the approach and the FCW. Hopefully we do another one because it would be great to see more women coming into the division.”
If she sees a future for herself in acting:
“I love acting and I love developing these characters, finding out who they are and committing to them. I’d love more experience with that. Hopefully, one of these days, the WWE will put a Diva in a film. Eve Torres for The Marine 4.”
It’s a pretty candid interview, so it’s definitely worth a read. Check out the full interview here.

If they do a diva search, it should contain females from the indys not models

Id say mix it up just because your not from the indys doesn’t mean you don’t have a passion for the business
But they shouldn’t exclude the women from the indys as well

the best thing that came out of the Divas search is Michelle Mccool as she actually can wrestle and is athletic

Really so eve & layla aren’t athletic & they can’t wrestle??..michelle was a good wrestler but terrible at all other aspects where other divas excel….

I agree with ART… Candice Michelle, Layla, Eve, The Bella Twins… All came from the diva search and became champions, each of these divas brought something different… And regardless of personal opinion on them, they can wrestle (Hence why they’re employed!)
Eve and Layla are the 2 remaining divas who won the diva search, and right now, they are the frontline of the WWE divas… So no offence, but your argument is invalid!!! :/

I dont think he was saying everyone else sucked; I think he was simply stating who he thought was the best to come out of the diva search. At least that’s how I took it. I love Layla, the Bella Twins and Eve. I’d even add Tiffany and Candice to the list. I was saying “This” in a way of saying that I think Michelle McCool is the best to come out of the diva search, not as a knock on the rest of the girls.

I would say eve at this point is the best thing she’s doing good at every aspect michelle was only good at wrestling eve is way more well rounded

mmmmhhh not really, divas like Candice and Kelly kelly were still way more well rounded than Eve ever was. Kelly connected with the fans and Candice was a better wrestler. But yeah, Michelle is the best thing to come out of the DS and I dont even like her but its a fact.

After seeing this my love for Eve of officially there. This woman exudes intelligence and she’s a solid character and worker. She started really growing on me last year, this year I’ve started to love her… And now, it’s official. Eve Torres is likely my new (current) favorite Diva.
at
I hate to be one of those fair weathered fans..but Eve has really grown on me. She’s smart and she cares about the divas, which is all I ask of a diva in wwe. Since when she first came out to verbally attack The Miz, a couple of yrs back(which was awesome), there was that spark of personality that made me think she was special. Then after that she kind of lost steam with me, although she was rapidly improving in the ring. Finally she got her big breakthrough as a conniving, heel character which is what really won over some of lukewarm fans. I respect her even more and think she’s awesome, plus she works out with Lita sometimes. Two moonsaulting cool divas! Go Eve!
at
I loved eve from the start even during her diva search days she grew as a preformer her character is growing she’s set on rising the division
Her interview skills are great she’s able to speak her mind plus keep true to wwe
And I second eve for marine 4 lol

Sorry but bringing back the Diva Search will not help bring the division back on top.

Totally. That’s one thing I didn’t agree with and hope they don’t bring it back, but they probably will. I hate the DS! I don’t mind Tough Enough though. Nidia and Maven were my absolute favorites and Jackie and Shaniqua weren’t horrible. Well Jackie was charismatic, in the ring..not so much. Shaniqua could have been big, too bad about her attitude.
I know through the Diva Search we got good girls like McCool, Eve, Christy, Candice and Eve and Layla…but I mean, it takes a long while to warm up to them and it takes them seemingly ages to get a good character and skills. When its a wrestler from the indies, these women are ready to go. So no DS please!

Oops, I put Eve twice, so throw in Tiffany instead. She was special as a ring competitor. I mean as a GM on ECW, she wasn’t my favorite person..then she started wrestling on Smackdown and I was very impressed. It wasn’t so much the moves, but the fire/intensity. WWE missed the boat with her, she was pretty good.

Yea DJ, but honestly id rather just have indie girls in WWE. Like 10 indie and maybe 5 models if that. I just don’t like the idea of of another Diva Search. We need more Ivories and Jackies and Mollies. I’m tired of the models! So sick of em. I hate to sound bitter, but the Attitude Era Divas were a mix of both and have proven to be the best group imo.

Diva Search is fine. Michelle McCool, Candice Michelle, Layla and Eve were all revelations in their own right. Just structure the competition to reflect the true potential of the candidates rather than making it a beauty/vanity pageant. And don’t hire half of the rejects at the expense of cutting existing talented workers.

Yes, those diva search girls became decent but none of them became popular. They only managed to become decent heels but nothing more. The general wrestling fans just dont care about them. AJ, Melina and Mickie James are the only success stories that we had the past couple of years and they all came from the indies.

That’s interesting interview from Eve basically admitting they’re consistently re-writing Raw even when the show starts.
I don’t know when she’s getting married or her contract is up but I don’t expect her to be around much longer.
JillianHallTNA Reply:

She signed a 5 year contract so it’s just a matter of time…
at
Even I don’t mind the diva search THAT much, I think they already have signed good girls that are down in FCW/NXT.
If they want more divas on the main roster then they should go out there and grab some good girls from the indies cause there are PLENTY good ones out there that only wait for such an opportunity.
This way they can help girls that already have the passion for the in ring work, have the skills to back it up and can learn how to play characters and improve their mic work additional to their in ring skills(depending who it is).
Diva Searches are a hit or miss.

Diva search has made and broken the division. On one hand we have Layla michelle eve christy hemme candice etc on the other hand we have fans blaming the day for the fall of the division
at
Please no more diva search. Yes it gave us a few good girls and one of the best evers in Michelle McCool, but it also gave us a lot of not so good girls.
I think Eve is getting a bit of ego. Like when she said she’s helping new talent and re-polishing the girls already on the roster…Eve is good, but when I think about helping the rookies in matches, she’s not the first person I think of. She isn’t as polished herself to be helping others get “re-polished”. Just my opinion.
at
I’ve always been torn on the diva search. We did get a few good girls out of it (Eve, Michelle, Layla, Candice Michelle, Tiffany, and Michelle come to mind) however, it was never meant to create ‘lady wrestlers’ though that’s unfortunately the direction it headed. I remember just before the first ever diva search when it was being hyped up by the commentators during a Molly vs Victoria match. Lawler said something to the effect of “We’re looking for DIVAS, not lady wrestlers. We already have the best lady wrestlers in the world.” Unfortunately, the diva search morphed into one of the only sure fire ways for a female to get into the WWE (as it became very difficult for Indy girls to make it with the popularity of the diva search) which led to a decline in the division itself when management was faced with having to build realistic, believable characters from scratch- so I don’t think they did, hence the decline.
I have no issue with the Diva search, so long as they continue acquiring strong indy talent. There’s nothing wrong with the WWE giving us one or two more Torrie Wilsons or Stacy kieblers; Hell, we may get lucky and even get another McCool or Eve or Candice… Just please WWE, PLEASE don’t forget about the Jazz’s, the Jackie’s, or the Molly’s.
and that was my random tangent for the day :P

I dont agree with another diva search because they’ll fire existing divas for women they can hire for cheap but wont last the test of time….
i’d pay to see eve punch doink in the face LOL…

they all have some value in some way…wwe could push any diva with time & mic time with a good character,i bet they’d get over…its just that they can’t use sex as a selling point they don’t care as much now…

AJ is a prime example of a woman who wanted to become successful and she did. The rest are waiting for opportunities assuming that they will have one but they shouldnt. Thats what seperates legends like (Trish, Lita, Chyna, Sable and Sherri) with the rest. These girls never waited for opportunies. They took it.

Aj had both cm punk & cena pushing for her thou otherwise she’d be appearing here & there but since she got the role she took it & ran with it & it worked…
plus more than half the divas aren’t given anything to do but photo-shoots…

How do I put this nicely…. let’s just say if they do another diva search, Eve better start looking for outside oppurtunities. Because the truth is as easy as the DS brought her in to the company, a new one could take her right out of the company, too. Once WWE starts hiring girls 4 or 5 years younger than her, the countdown will begin. Just look at the typical shelf live of a diva. Even the most popular ones were making their exits after about the 6th year. Eve’s been there for 5. I’d say AJ, just because of how much they have invested in her, should be safe for a few years. Everyone else is expendable.
at
I really haven’t seen anything that bad come out of the Diva search. Whether they can Wrestler like a veteran (Michelle, Eve, Layla etc.) or they don’t learn the ropes because they have 5lb boots on each foot slowing them down (Ashley) they all become the main Diva on the roster at some point or another, and either get put over in really good matches, or they reach a level of experience where they can put someone else over. So many Diva’s have come in from the Diva Search, and its surprising that not all of them where winners…
Maryse, The Bella’s, Candice, Maria, Michelle, etc. All became champions… all had a MAJOR push and beat the veterans of their time. They truly make a name for themselves and end up enjoying the life.
When you think of the Indy girls who have already had a wrestling career, you notice that they get uneasy and restless when they don’t always have the main spot on the roster, or a hard hitting storyline, which would be frustrating for anyone, but in the WWE, everyone is going to get their turn to bat, whether you’re a rookie, or a pro, and its not going to go in any kind of order.

It depends on your definition of making a name for themselves. Did they make a name for themselves as far as Diva fans are concerned? Yeah. Did they name a IMPACT on the bussiness? No.
So it depends on what you are looking for.

i cant wait a new Diva who will win again in Diva Search……
In fact I want a kind of diva that having a resemblance like Kelly Kelly Or Torrie Wilson…..
at
Diva search will ruin the division even more despite them finding gold in Michelle and Maryse. Michelle for her wrestling abilities despite lacking connection with fans. Maryse was on the other side of the coin. She was not the best wrestler, but she connected with the fans. Imagine if we can have both in one. Maryse McCool!
