WWE Hell in a Cell Results: Eve Beats the Odds in Triple Threat Match

Divas Champion Eve fended off competition from not one, but two challengers for her title at tonight’s Hell in a Cell pay per view.

With tensions mounting in the Divas division over who attacked Kaitlyn last month at Night of Champions (and all fingers being pointed in her direction), Eve managed to defeat both Kaitlyn and former champion, Layla, in a triple threat match.

Following a fast paced match that saw many combinations of the trio of Divas competing in the ring the cunning champion managed to emerge victorious after briefly taking herself out of the equation and allowing Kaitlyn and Layla to do damage to each other.

Kaitlyn nearly had the match with a three count on Layla, but Eve leapt from the top rope with a senton bomb on Kaitlyn, who was on top of Layla. She then pinned Layla for the win in true opportunistic heel fashion.

So, Eve is still atop of the pack. But after her performance tonight, could Kaitlyn have earned a one-on-one match with Eve somewhere down the line for the Divas Title?

girls put on a good match wish the crowd would at least cheer for one of em but i give it a 4 i saw no botches but i just did not get that wow factor from this match great ppv debut for kaitlyn cant wait for raw and sd this week

    • hueyian

This wasn’t Kaitlyn’s debut PPV match! She wrestled at Money in the Bank.

  • moonpiggy

knock knock hellooooo i luved this match one of my faves! so glad my queen won! glad that kaitlyn the afterthought lost (:

I gave it a 3. While I know it’s hard to ask for much for the divas at a PPV where they’re wedged between the World Heavyweight & WWE Championship matches with a good 4-5 minutes to pull through with something good, it just felt lackluster at most of the parts. I think all three ladies performed well and played their parts, but nothing stood out. Layla & Kaitlyn turned on each other very quickly (probably due to the time constraints) but probably will be BFFs in a tag match tomorrow night and Eve kind of missed that senton which messed up the ending, although it was creative. Just seemed like something that coulda happened on RAW, not at a PPV.

    • Lanoom

      Nothing stood out?

      Not Eve’s submission array?
      Not Layla’s kick-based offense?
Not Kaitlyn’s power moves, including the Gorilla Press Single Knee Gutbuster?
      Not the double spot-to-meeting-of-the-minds spot?

Even though Eve missed the last spot, the match was still an easy 4.

      kaitlyn & layla argue on wwe.com exclusive….

  • Johnyfaction3

I need to re-watch this match because I didn’t really understand it. Every time Kaitlyn did a move on Layla I got really nervous and thought they were going to mess up. I do love Eve and I like that she retain though.

    • DIVASKO

II was think the same as you (with the Layla and Kaitlyn things)

A lot of people hated the match. Which is pretty damn sad. I mean, compared to what we normally get at PPV’s, this was pretty damn good. It had a story behind it, and it had some really good points. I guess the WWE Universe never will be satisfied. Anyway, I felt the match was great. It was nice to see a triple-threat match! But not just that, each girl really shined. ESPECIALLY Kaitlyn! I don’t think this is the end of the storyline though. Did anyone else hear when Cole (I think it was him) said that Aksana never admitted that she was the one who attacked Kaitlyn at NOC? Hmmmm. Not just that, but I think Kaitlyn will end up getting another shot; since it was Layla that got pinned. Anyway, can’t wait to see where all this goes! Great showing by all 3 ladies! <3

    • http://www.myspace.com/afemata_blood Sitau

agreed why the hate? did they not see eve working new submissions on kaitlyn? lol great match just wish kaitlyn got pinned instead of layla but oh well

  • NY Pollard

Well I am happy that Eve retained, it is giving her a nice reign so far and will be a bigger payoff for the next Champion. Right now, as a fan, I’m not in any rush to see Eve lose it. Not if things keep getting interesting. Someone give the writer with a brain a promotion!

  • Lushh

I thought the match was put together and executed very to perfection. Every diva got a chance to shine and there wasn’t an abundance of single match formula (basically when two superstars are the main focus while 1 is out of the picture , usually on the outside of the ring). The standout performer in the match had to be Kaitlyn though. I found myself really pulling for her to win this one.

I thought the match was fantastic for the short time it was given. I personally thought Kaitlyn shined the most in this match, really showcasing her strength and power. I liked the Stratusfaction bulldog she pulled off. Hope she gets another opportunity again at the title. Maybe at Survivor Series?

  • http://www.twitter.com/wwestarlee wwestarlee

i liked the match and i for one thought kaitlyn looked amazing , and the move she did on eve aka trish move lol was great to i personally feel layla need to go heel though

    • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

i’m hoping this whole storyline is a giant double swerve/whatever you wanna call it, where layla was the one behind the whole attack on kaitlyn.

      it’s a bit odd/annoying we’ve not had aksana on-screen to confirm/deny that whole ipad/email stuff.

wow, this comment has a lot of slashes. hehe. /////

  • jen07201

I believe Kaitlyn deserves another opportunity for the Divas championship.

    • NY Pollard

This will happen. I hated Kaitlyn and she has changed my tune with her hard work and passion she’s exuding. She will be Champion and I look forward to it. She has personality and the guys and girls will like it as much as we do. Just give her a good story some more time to talk and she will be great. :)

  • BC757

I thought that the ladies put up a good effort. They were given 7 minutes and it felt fresh but it also felt rushed. They started off the match and a fast pace and it switched from slow to fast speed. If they would have focused on 3 big spots and tell the story in between I would have really, really enjoyed it. That split spot, Kaitlyn/Layla shoving, and bulldog/senton ending were highlights for me, but just felt rushed.

  • shameronstar

I was a bit worried for the diva’s division because of the possibility of one of their last ring generals Beth Phoenix leaving, but I think Eve, Layla, AJ, and a couple of others are more than capable of holding their own. Plus, with experienced performers like Paige and Emma in fcw nxt I don’t think the overall quality will go down at all!

  • Jordan

I gotta say before anybody goes knocks her over it, Kaitlyn has always been outspoken about Trish Stratus (as well as Beth Phoenix) being an inspiration to her as a Diva, so the Stratusfaction is a bit of an homage to her legacy, I think at least. Back to the match, I gave it a 4. I really enjoyed what each Diva brought to the table at Hell in a Cell. It’s only a shame the audience in Atlanta couldn’t have appreciated it.

  • shameronstar

To be fair the crowd was relatively dead for most of the event. Heck, Antonio Cesaro vs Justin Gabriel was so dead it made most Raw diva’s matches seem more important!

  • DivaDestiny

I’m more offended by her GTS actually. Or whatever the hell that was supposed to be. :/

I rated the match a 4. I was impressed and reading around on different sites, it seems a lot of others were as well. :)

    • Raekon

It as a gorilla press into a single leg gutbuster combination and was executed differently then the GTS is executed so there is no need for you to be offended at all.

They wouldn’t let a diva use a move a male superstar uses.
Most of all not a finisher or signature move from their top stars.

      • DivaDestiny

I actually wouldn’t mind if a Diva used one of the Superstar’s moves as long as it was executed right. What she did looked like a crappy GTS and they shouldn’t have let her do it.

  • http://facebook.com/mykael.kennedy mykel1990

It was solid, but felt underwhelming.

  • shameronstar

The armbar from Kaitlyn was a nice surprise, but Kaitlyn is actually more well versed in submissions than most people think. When Kaitlyn had a match against Tamina on nxt one time Kaitlyn did this Russian Legsweep into a grounded Octupus Stretch move on her once!

    • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

i agree with you. i’ve seen a lot of ‘omg kaitlyn was so awesome, so proud of her blahblah’ types tonight and i’m just like, huh? people say it as if kaitlyn is usually rubbish in the ring, when she isn’t? -__-

      • http://ashmultimedia.wordpress.com melon2617

I haven’t seen the match, but I find that Kaitlyn is grossly underrated by the masses. She’s not the best on the roster…yet, but each time she gets in the ring she gets better and better. I’m really glad that WWE is investing in her and Eve, as they seem to be the divisions two standouts right now. I’m a little disappointed that Eve retained, as I really wanted to see Kaitlyn get her moment, but I hope all of this build pays off for her.

  • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

i don’t know whether it is me becoming unenthused by the divas division or whether it was the participants in the match, but i just found myself not really caring who won.

it was a solid, good match for the most part but it didn’t really have a “wow!!” ppv moment for me and that camera angle at the end made it look as if eve missed kaitlyn on the finish, which also put a dampener on the whole thing for me =/

    • http://worldelitewrestle.proboards.com FOREVER FLAWLESS!

      I cosign.

  • redsandman99

I enjoyed the match. I really did. They worked well together and gave it a good go. Kaitlyn stuck out to me as the star of the match. She was utilizing some more power moves to play up to her strength and I hope they’ll continue on with an Eve/Kaitlyn feud.

  • ajfan83

I don’t think it matter who they push right now. The fans just don’t give a s**t about the divas anymore. They’re not even over as eye candy. Maybe WWE should just fold it for a while and keep some of them around as valets.

    • ballplayer10123

I completely disagree. The only thing the Divas can o to change people’s perception is to keep putting on solid matches. If the writers can keep coming up with fairly interesting storylines I have faith they will catch on eventually.

I guess eye candy has its place, but I’m not a fan of it in wrestling. Sure, have a Diva or two that are hopeless in the ring become eye candy; or if they are an especially good actress. I like women’s wrestling (and wrestling in general) and revere the golden era. The golden era is what the WWE should continually strive for in their women. They may or may not be able to replicate that era and enthusiasm, but set the bar high and if they come close they will be in good shape.

If they Divas keep doing what they are doing lately it has to only be a matter of time until they get over. Eve, Layla, and Kaitlyn (and the writers) are actually treating the Divas championship like it means something, that is half the battle. The Divas may not get over today, tommorow, or even in a couple months. However, if they get decent writing and keep giving top notch effort I believe they will get over in due time.

      • http://ashmultimedia.wordpress.com melon2617

Agreed. The Divas are much like tag team wrestling, a very niche market appealing to a very niche market. I know I personally could give a rat’s ass about who the tag team champs are, but there are people who are very passionate about that division. However, with the right combination and the right storyline (I am the tag team champions), you can get the mainstream interested.

The reason the Golden Era worked is because you had about 4 Divas that you really cared about (Trish, Lita, Stacy, Torrie) and then the rest could still kick some serious ass, but the only time the Women’s title was a major player was when it was with Trish or Lita. WWE is getting fans invested in Eve, Kaitlyn and to a lesser extent Layla and AJ (as she’s currently in a non-competing role) and if they continue to put on convincing matches, they will eventually generate more interest. One wrestling blogger recently said that Smackdown needed to step up it’s game because the Divas storyline was the only interesting one, which shows fans are noticing and while it was meant as an insult to the male competitors, it’s still a coup for the ladies.

  • Johnyfaction3

WWE posted a backstage exclusive of Kaitlyn and Layla arguing over the lost. Layla was very heelish on it. I like it. You guys should check it out.

    • SweeneyTodd

I don’t like it. As Heel Layla will end like Natalya.

  • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

i find it funny that on wwe.com select superstars or divas the three divas in this match are the ones for the divas…..
i liked the match,i do hope this storyline continues & maybe add aksana so we dont just get eve vs layla/kaitlyn…..

layla & kaitlyn arguing on wwe.com exclusive made me laugh at how kaitlyn was lost for words….it looks like layla might have framed eve,or a layla heel turn,i hope not since this is layla’s first big face push….

  • Raekon

Loved the match and compared to previous ppv matches it was a 5 for me.
The action was solid, the moves and showcasing very fresh and all 3 divas got to shine greatly.

Eves submissions were on point, Laylas kick combos were on point and Kaitlyns submissions and powermoves aswell!

Loved the gorilla press into a single leg gutbuster and the powerslam kaitlyn delivered beautifully! :)

Also hilarious the segment between Eve, Teddy and Zack before the match! ^_^
Very happy about the whole thing!

  • http://twitter.com/#!/FrenchFineFierc FrenchFineFierce

    Kaitlyn used the Stratusfaction !!!!!!

  • Lita-Sault-666

I really enjoyed the match. It wasn’t the best match of the week for the divas but it certainly wasn’t the worst neither. A few creative spots in the match and loved Kaitlyn’s stratuafaction (although i dent want her to keep using it as it is known at Trish’s finish, as well as her being a powerhouse.).

Im coming round to kaitlyn now, she’s impressing me :)
