MMA fighter Ronda Rousey has reportedly become the first female fighter to join the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), according to TMZ.

This history-making move comes after reports that Strikeforce – the organization that Rousey represents as the current reigning Women’s Bantamweight Champion – will be running their final event in January 2013 before closing their doors for good.

Thus far, Rousey has remained tight-lipped on the deal, telling ESPN.com that it “seems totally cool”.

Ronda says:

“I would like it to be that way. I haven’t signed any bout agreements. I don’t know exactly what’s going on yet. I know just as much as everybody else knows right now.”

TMZ also alleges that Rousey will automatically become UFC’s 135lb Women’s Champion and will defend her title next year, with possible opponents including the likes of Sara McMann, Miesha Tate and Cris “Cyborg” Santos.

A fight between Rousey and Santos would likely be one of the biggest women’s MMA bouts in the history of the sport. Rousey has already planted the seeds, challenging her to a fight at bantamweight, after her successful title defense against Sarah Kaufman in August 2012, and labelling her as “Cyroid”.

Interesting. I dont watch UFC or any other MMA stuff, but I follow some of it, and I think its cool that UFC are bringing Female MMA to their product, branch out a bit more. While I am a male, I truly believe women need to shown more credit for the things they do, as is with Womens wrestling, and now womens MMA.

Good for her. She’s an excellent fighter and has some of the best stuff out there. I wish her luck.

Too bad Carano stepped away from MMA. I’d love to see them go toe-to-toe.

I think Ronda would beat Gina because Ronda’s just a beast. Her judo is world class and Gina wouldn’t be able to stop it.
