On this day in history:
December 13th, 2009 | Accompanied by her Lay-Cool bestie Layla, Michelle McCool defended her Women’s Title against Mickie James at 2009′s TLC PPV. The match took place in the midst of the “Piggie James” feud, as evidenced by Layla’s custom top. Mickie looked to get even with her tormenters, but interference by Layla threw a wrench in her plans. Layla received an accidental boot by Michelle for her troubles, but it put into motion a series of events that brought the same boot to Mickie’s head and gave Michelle the 1-2-3.
What are your memories of this moment? Tell us in the comments!

Mickie is awesome, first time I saw Mickie and Michelle go heat to head at Survivor Series 2008 I was like YEAAAAAH!! Super impressed! Mickie is even more awesome and hotter now in TNA as Hardcore Country!!
Pretty good match despite the odd backdrop into the corner they managed to improvise it… Like true wrestlers haha
I liked the Piggy James a bit was too childish but mixed with Vikie Guerrero sticking her nose in the business was funnier lol
Weren’t layCool and BPs throwing online shots at one another at this time? Lol love them both
LayCool were ridiculously funny haha

I loved this feud, loved the match, and had no complaints over the whole storyline other than it’s subject matter.

Most underrated divas match of 2009. Melina and Mccool got the shine from NOC for its spots but this match had a little bit of everything. We were emotionally invested, match was intense and the fans got into it. The fans actually wanted the babyface to win, which hasn’t happened in a long time

Mickie James was shrewd: she could have easily chosen not to participate in the storyline – probably would have been released sooner as a result – but surely she knew how sympathetic it would make her come across to the audience. Plus, there was always going to be a payoff. Besides, even if the Piggy James angle was a tad distasteful, no one actually believed that Mickie was fat. During this period she was no curvier than when she first debuted.
Anyway, Michelle McCool is still one of those wrestlers who I could watch in the ring endlessly. I felt her chemistry with Mickie was no less compelling than with Melina. This match was like a sleeper hit for the Divas in 2009.

What big payoff? she lost the title two weeks after and lost it to Michelle again in embarrassing fashion.

They might not have given her the title to begin with?

Great match and I think @DIVAINDEMISE makes a good point. I’m glad Mickie got one more title. SHe should totally comeback to WWE with her HARDCORE country gimmick and song. She’s just alot better than before now imo. She’s gotten in prime shape and still beautiful and can kick ass. What more do you need in a Diva?!

The reason why Mickie lost the title was because she was injured or at least had something wrong with her. Michelle even confrimed this in some sort of interview she did, she even said that her Layla were trying to get WWE to let Mickie to compete at WM 26 because they wanted at least some ending to this feud. If it wasn’t because of Mickie being injured, Beth wouldn’t have been champion and possibly Layla may have not either.

And they say Layla never helped Michelle win matches.

What if Layla started a new face version of LayCool with a new up and coming diva, but this time Layla would be the leader since she’s the veteran?

I loved this match because I love Michelle as the bad girl – it looked like she might lose but she ended up winning in the end, which was awesome. This was also my favorite phase of Lay-Cool – they were mean and not overly funny. Don’t get me wrong, I did like some of their stuff in 2010 and 2011 but they became too focused on comedy rather than viciousness. When Michelle turned heel in late 2008, she was vicious and I liked it. Always will love heel Michelle though – she could go put on awesome matches with almost anyone and did a great job of coming off as better than everyone else.

I can not stand Michelle McCool but i give her credit she worked hard to become decent in the ring. I also give her credit and respect that she said in a interview that Mickie deserves 100% credit for this angle and storyline and that her and Layla apologized every time to Mickie for the comments that was made during this angle. Plus McCool called Mickie a work horse she willing to go over matches and everything before hand.
Mickie only lost the title two weeks later because she was getting released.

No Mickie didn’t lose the championship because she was injured. She was actually injured or had a life threatening disease, I can’t remember. In that same interview Michelle said that’s why Mickie dropped the title so quickly. She even said that her and Layla tried so hard for WWE to let Mickie compete/appear at WM 26, to at least give this feud some sort of ending. And in fact, even Micheal Cole and The King mentioned Mickie coming back, in the six divas tag team match on Raw, the last Raw before WM.

It was a staph infection in her knee I believe. It got really nasty and I remember reading somewhere (I think it was one of the PWI magazines or the one of their little offshoot magazines) that she could have lost her leg.

watching this makes me miss michelle quite a bit. she had great chemisty with any face she was up against when she was heel. her feud with mickie could have become bigger and better and i would love to have seen these two fighting for the title at wrestlemania.

I hated the Piggie James storyline especially that segment when beth phoenix ran down to the ring and held mickie james down and helped laycool embarrass mickie James with a pig cake and punch Mickie James was not fat here and still ain’t
