Could former WWE Women’s Champion Alundra Blayze, aka Madusa, be returning to Raw?
Madusa, who now works as a monster truck driver, will be at the Monster Jam show in Houston, Texas this weekend, and revealed on Twitter that she plans to stick around for the 20th anniversary episode of Raw.
She wrote: “Houston this saturday for monster jam and WWE Monday nite raw! (sic)”
The former star appeared on some of the earliest episodes of the Monday night stalwart, before infamously defecting to WWE’s rival, WCW, and threw the then-WWF Women’s Championship in a trash can live on Monday Nitro.
Madusa would certainly be a blast from the past on the big 20th anniversary episode and something different, especially after we saw Trish Stratus and Lita return for the show’s 1,000th episode back in July.
In 2012, Madusa revealed that she was still in posession of the old WWF Women’s Championship — the same one she infamously tossed in the trash — and wanted to return to WWE to face now retired Diva, Beth Phoenix, for the title.
She was also reportedly contacted last year to film interviews for the WWE Network.

I would cry if Madusa showed up, LOVE HER, a true Legend in the wrestling sport, havent always agreed with everything she has done (ie womens title lol), but there is no denying she is a legend in the sport and made a name for herself,
and plus with her having showing up, it would be something different, something new and cool, kinda like Wendi Richter back in June, so fingers crossed for her to appear, but i feel she might be tricking us in a way :(
I am hoping for Trish, Lita, Ivory, Madusa, and Sable all to appear
former diva i dont wanna appear Candice Michelle, Stacy Keilber, Melina, and uggghhh vomit, cant belive im gonna type her name Sunny

trish, lita no way we see them twice a year and their retired. i love them but if i see them once more i’ll vomit. sable is in the same league as sunny to me.
their both whores. madusa of course the younger fans might not get it.
but its about time wwe finally caters to the older crowd, they forget about years ago. now sherry lets see stacy i’d agree. but candice michelle
was better in the ring then say eve. now she is on good terms with wwe.
but she did have a baby a few months ago and seems to really into being a mother, unlike sherry that seems to be all into being childish.
and melina is one of the best women’s champions of all time.
but i don’t she’d come back for one night unless wwe are really trying to win her man over to return.

I feel like with the current main and developmental rosters there is a possibility to reenergize the division (with cooperation from the storyline developers too

I honestly can’t see her being used on TV. If she is then honestly, WWE would need to show a video package before she came on because there’s going to be a fuck ton of people scratching their heads and going “who?”.

Nostalgia just doesn’t work with divas in general. They trot out Trish once a year and she hasn’t gotten a decent reaction since the Cena tag in 2008. When Lita came out to be Slater’s opponent at Raw 1000 you could see most of the crowd sitting down and not giving a crap in general. Or how about Sable’s entire second run in 03-04?
Don’t get me wrong, I wish the past divas did have more of a legacy. But it seems like no matter how big they were at their peak, the fans just move on to the next hot thing once they are gone. It would be ridiculous to bring Madusa in for a “nostalgia” moment when 99% of the crowd won’t know who she is.

Lita got a pretty decent reaction at RAW 1000 and she does get good pops whenever she makes appearances and when she is mentioned.
She is still pretty over. I have seen fans bring Lita signs and on RAW and there was a we want Lita chant.
ajfan83 Reply:

She didn’t get a decent reaction at Raw 1000. I get you’re a huge Lita fan but you should be realistic about her popularity. She has a huge following on sites like this, but current WWE audiences don’t really care one way or the other. Like I said, nostalgia only works with the top male stars. I’m not expecting an AJ cameo in 2020 to get a big reaction either. That’s just the way it goes.
WweLitafan4ever Reply:

Yes she did. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t non-existent.When Wendi returned a in June with Cyndi Lauper and Piper, they didn’t know who she was,Trish got complete silence on RAW 1000,but Lita got a decent reaction. And they all popped during the little match/when she won.
Compared to some former divas they bring back,Lita does get a reception.
Crazy_J Reply:

If someone like Alundra returned it WOULD be for the fans of that time or era. The WWE wouldn’t expect a ten year old to remember her anyway.. they know that. Hell they think we don’t remember what happened two weeks ago. Even if they showed a video package, people who didn’t know her because they became a fan afterwards still would not care. A return like that would only target her fans or fans of that time. The only other people I could see getting excited would be folks gleaming for a hope she’d return full time to get this division going in the right direction. I would love to see her be a bully type heel IF she ever did return.

Crazy J makes an excellent point and he basically wins this discussion. It is not meant to get huge pops in the crowd, that’s a bonus. It is throwing a bone at the old fans who grew up with these wrestlers. It is ok for the old stars who made the show so memorable to begin with, to show up and give us faithful fans a shout out. Sure they’re also there for paychecks and to see old friends, but so what? Some of you need to lighten up, I mean seriously…not everything needs an elaborate thumbs down. Also, Lita got a decent pop when Edge mentioned her when giving one of his retirement speeches. She also got a massively, huge reaction in the UK when Alberto Del Rio played her music – though to be fair, she was always particularly over with the Brits Anyhow, that was a nice big reaction right there and she wasn’t even at the event. Next to Pee Wee she got a nice reception. She needs to go to Texas or Chicago for the big ovations. I’m sure she’ll get them. Team Xtreme reunion please! And Trish with Albert and Val!
WweLitafan4ever Reply:

Lita got good pops ever since she retired.Whether it was the RAW’s 15th anniversary, the Pee Wee Herman cameo, when Edge thanked her in his speech and said he had live sex with Lita and not Vickie(lol),the fake Lita on SD(I watched the live version, and the second her music played she got a standing ovation-awesome pop!),the Slammy was meh..but the crowd was bad throughout the whole show,so she wasnt the only one who got a tepid reaction. She got a nice pop when Edge mentioned her in his Hall of Fame speech, and a decent pop at RAW 1000…so it’s all good.
Team Xtreme reunion would be awesome, but unlikely.A reunion with Edge is more likely to happen.
ajfan83 Reply:

I’ll be generous and say Lita has gotten the best reactions of any past divas. They haven’t been great, but compared to the others I guess you could say they were. I just think nostalgia with divas is a bad idea in general because, by and large, the fans don’t seem to care or remember them. I’m sure if Sable or Chyna showed up they would barely get a pop too. They aren’t going to draw ratings either because none of them have transcended the business the way some of the male stars have. Brock doesn’t always get big responses but because of what he did outside of WWE he is incredibly marketable for them. You slap Trish or Lita on a poster in this day and age and it won’t effect business at all.
Maybe the big point of this debate is that a lot of wrestling fans live in the past. Nostalgia is great from afar, but once these women start showing up on TV the illusion is destroyed. I’d rather focus on the present if they are unwilling to put anyone over but themselves.

Yes!!! I hope so! :)
at
This would be awesome! The sad part is I don’t see her really respecting any of the diva’s except the ones who worked their way up through the indies. It would still be really awesome to see her back though. She’s one of the best.
As far as it being a waste of time or people not remembering her.. I think the main thing people would remember would be the classic trash can/title incident – which wouldn’t garner any love for her, but if she got heat, that would be just as cool. I honestly liked her more because she threw the title in the trash.. I wish she’d come back and throw the diva’s title in the trash and come out with the women’s title and reinstate it and challenging someone since she never actually lost the belt. She’s technically still the women’s champ.

I barely know who Medusa/Alundra is, and I follow women’s wrestling. Can you imagine how the mainstream audience would react?
Jcott3 Reply:

Based on the pic, you’re probably too young to remember Madusa in her prime, so I won’t be too harsh.
Madusa started off in AWA in the late 1980′s, became their Women’s Champion and was named PWI Rookie Of The Year in 1988, the first time a woman won that award.
When AWA folded, she went to WCW, where she was part of the Dangerous Alliance, managed by Paul E. Dangerously (Paul Heyman). After they broke up in 1993, she continued as Rick Rude’s manager for a while. All the while, she also wrestled in Japan and was a top star there.
In 1993-94, she went to the WWF under the name Alundra Blayze, where she had a few reigns as Women’s Champion. She faced Leilani Kai at WrestleMania 10 and had a tremendous series of matches against Bull Nakano. In 1995, her contract with WWF expired and was not renewed so she went back to WCW, but WWF forgot to have her drop the title before she left.
In late 1995, she did the infamous “throw the belt in the garbage” angle. She stayed with WCW on and off for the next few years. In 1999, she was part of Randy Savage’s Team Madness, along with Gorgeous George and Miss Madness (Molly Holly). She also helped train the female wrestlers at the WCW Power Plant.
Spike7000 Reply:

She jumped to WWE in 1993 and won the WWE Women’s title in a tournament defeating Heidi Lee Morgan on December on a episode of All American Wrestling. WWE brought in Bull Nakano and rest was history. Small note was that Jacqueline under the name Wynonna was set to debut in the women’s division. She made her infamous jump in late 1995 after WWE just brought in Aja Kong to rekindle her feud with her from Japan (even Tomoko Watanabe, Lioness Asuka, Kyoko Inoue, Sakie Hasagawa, and Chapparita Assari were brought in). Aja Kong was even set to win the WWE Women’s title from Madusa at RR 96.
She would then re-debut in WCW and the company brought in Bull Nakano to re-feud with her then started the tournament for the WCW Women’s title (Malia Hosaka, Chigusa Nagayo, Kaoru, Meiko Satomora, and Sonoko Kato were also part of the tournament) since Akira Hokuto won the title, they would both feud until she was taken off tv at Great American Bash 97 because she got married until she returned to TV in 1999
She helped train some of the Nitro Girls at WCW Power Plant, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler, Daffney, Sharmell, Asya, Midnight, and a young Mona/Miss Madness (Molly Holly)

didn’t they fire all the female wrestlers in 95 to save cost(since it was a terrible year) and they were dumb enough to let her keep the title.
Crazy_J Reply:

Well.. I’ve read that Bull Nakano was arrested for possession of cocaine and that was her demise with WWE(then F). Alundra had no competition in WWE(F). I’m not really sure what happened between her and Vince. Luna was in and out of WWE it seemed. Berta jumped back to WCW as well.. so you might be right in them getting rid of them. I watched as a fan, but it was before I was old enough to pay attention to anything ONLINE about wrestling.. which btw I think is what is tarnishing the business we all love.
at
Doubt anyone would remember her but, would be cool if she threw away the divas belt and award a better looking belt to the champion (Kaitlyn could win)
at
i would rather see madusa, then the current crop of divas because they suck.
i would for mark out because is my number 2 women’s wrestler of all time,
with my number 1 luna vachon being dead and my number 3 mercedes martinez being to good for the current crop of divas. it would be great to see a womne that knows what she doing and is more entertianing then the current divas champion.
i see if it does happen. eve probably challenger her like she did mae thinking madusa won’t come out and of course madusa would.
at
Can some people on this site try and be realistic for once. Is that too much to ask? Even when Madusa was in the company (nearly 20 years ago), she wasn’t even that popular. Nobody ever went to a show to watch Alundra Blayze. If she never threw the belt in the trash she’d be as forgotten as Lelani Kai or Rocking Robin. Chances are most of the people that saw her WWE run no longer watch. And again, even if some of them do, nobody is going to be excited if she makes a Raw cameo. It’s even sadder that some of you think WWE would resign her. Let’s bring in a 50 year old woman that nobody remembers and have her rebuild the division. Maybe we can bring in the equally forgotten Jacqueline (never popular either) and have them feud over a deactivated title. They’ll be main eventing shows in no time!!!
I knew this site attracted a niche audience but I never realized how tiny the niche was until I read some of these comments.
Mikas Reply:

She wasnt that popular? I am going to assume that the 83 in your name is the year you were born in. Madusa was a huge name back then, it was in the days when both WWF and WCW drew twice as many viewers as WWE does today. Just watch some of her old matches and see the crowd reactions (they didnt pipe in noise back then). Did people go to a show just to see her? No offcourse not, but neither did those people go to a show to just watch Trish or Lita. People rarely go to a show just to see 1 specific person.
I’m sure half the people who will watch the show have no idea who she is, but there will be plenty of people who remember the good old days (like the parents of all the kids). And for this show it will all about nostalgia of 20 years of RAW.

What a moron. You’re the delusional types I am talking about. Even the people that remember her aren’t going to get too excited if she’s there.
Only in the wrestling business can you be considered a legend when none of the fanbase remembers you.

And? WWE have had numerous old school wrestlers make appearances on these shows before. It’s a nice bit of harmless nostalgia for a portion of the audience and that’s it.

You said she was a huge name back then. And I’m saying she wasn’t. She was in WWF for a couple of years when nobody was watching. The “division” consisted of her and a couple of women they would bring in for short runs, like Bull Nakano and Bertha Faye. She was already out of WWF by the time it got popular again. So more of a footnote than the big name you claim she was. From everything I’ve read, Madusa has found a lot more notoriety in the monster truck circuit than she ever did in mainstream wrestling.
Crazy_J Reply:
January 8th, 2013 at
Maybe you should watch some of her matches and see how INTO them the fans are.. and the reactions she gets.. she was pretty popular imo. There wasn’t really another woman in WWE(F) at the time to like better, I liked Bull Nakano even though she was heel, great to watch in the ring.. those two were great together.
Madusa has found a niche in monster truck shows, but she’ll always be remembered by me for her wrestling ability.
I wouldn’t say she was a HUGE name, but for her time and being a female, she was rather popular when she appeared.

You wanna know how popular Madusa was? Check out wrestling magazines from the 80′s and 90′s. She was all over them. She was the face of women’s wrestling in the late 80′s and pretty much 90′s. She was the lynch pin of three women’s divisions: the AWA, WWF, and WCW. In particular, she was in WCW during it’s glory days. Check out some Madusa/Alundra matches. She got the type of reactions that today’s divas would kill for.
