On this day in history:
January 16th, 2009 | Though she would soon move on to bigger and better things in TNA, it was still bittersweet to see Victoria wrestle in her last match with the WWE. She took on Michelle McCool, who wasn’t about to let Victoria have happy ending. After spending much of the match working on Victoria’s left knee, Michelle hit her with the Faith Breaker and pinned her for the win. After the match, Victoria gave a short, tearful speech, thanking the fans for their support and heading backstage to the sound of their applause.
What are your memories of this moment? Tell us in the comments!

Some sites originally reported it as a dark match but then changed it to being a match on SMS. And I believe Cole mentioned there being a first ever divas match this week on the show when he was promoting the time change for it.

I think its so weird how they always say stuff to the fans..like, I love youuuuu…girl, no you don’t. I get that they’re in the moment, but perhaps a better choice of words is in order lol. Trish is the only one who kind of said it best imo. Because she said, thank you and I’m sure she meant it. She didn’t have to say I love you or I did this for you all..or something equally awkward. I’m not getting after Victoria, but I just think its a little weird when divas or superstars say that.

True but also depends on the person. Trish her last few years she was on total “ill give u 110% but I don’t give a f…” Mode. Trish and Lita were ready to go. But yeah she said thanks for the ride
But Victoria is a very intense woman she really gets down and fans I can honestly say she kind of does love the fans! :)
So I can see why she said that
Some ppl do it for the money others do it because they love it and also Trish did it because he loved it but what she once loved had changed and wasn’t it anymore therefor changing her perspective of wrestling.. She was pushed to the top and she knew it. But was like Meh, and Taa she still had a lot of wrestling left In her haha

Fair enough Ryan, but I don’t think you’re being fair with Trish. She might have wanted to stay a bit longer, we never know. I always assumed she probably would have granted another year or so if her star hadn’t started to diminish so rapidly. Trish had her best year, wrestling wise in 2006. Her matches with Mickie, Lita, Melina, and Victoria were fantastic, but for some reason – she seemed to be fading, while Mickie and Candice arose. Personally, I feel Randy Orton, Edge, Cena and DX were hogging too much TV time. DX was so lame during the time, I honestly can’t see why they received so much attention other than their own personal power trip because they could. The only thing that helped matters was that those same guys were very respectful of Lita and Trish’s careers and hard work. So they weren’t completely rubbed out as other divas seemingly were.

My bad, meant to say Mickie and Melina arose. Candice to an extent, but more apparent in the following year.

Oh no! NY Pollard. I wasn’t trying to bring down m little soldier Trish! :(
She’s awesome and I wasn’t quit settled when she left not when Lita left.. But Trish left on top, and she did being out the bet out of Melina and Mickie
And yeah DX Orton hogged it up. Luckily Trish got to mix it up with Edge n Orton
I didn’t mean she was ready to go, but she was fading.
And she chose not to resign I believe and moved on which is cool. The division was allready shaky and not looking good with a few exceptions and few matches n moments that stood out after Trish n Lita left. It’s cool because Trish appears here n there and gives it that 110% Stratusfaction baby!! :D
But as far as I love u fans? Haha that’s so Tara lol she’s or at least I feel to an extent she really diggs us! :P

You’re right. =) I just thought it was a little strange, but I guess it does go with her personality. Of all the women in wrestling, Lisa (Victoria/Tara) is always the most liked and this is probably why. She is very lovable.

Victoria was my favorite female wrestler of her era. They basically jobbed victoria for years on end (most of 05-09). I wanted her to win this match, because it would have been a different outcome than what was presented most episodes. Good match, but Victoria should have won.

I wonder what kind of awesomeness Natalya could bring to TNA???
The only time I have seen Natalya at her “purest” was against Kelly on Smackdown in 2008 she totally annihilated Kelly
It wasn’t a squash match either. I actually gained a little respect for Kelly there because she actually fought her little heart out but to no avail.
If Natalya can bring that to TNA yikes! It be so awesome!

I agree but at the same time i think Natalya said in an interview that she not looking to go anywhere else but wwe, since her Heritage lies there.. I mean i would love to see Natalya used to her full extent and no doubt tna would use her right. but it seem since her family started in wwe she would like to continue where they left off.

When this happened, all I remember is thinking that the world had ended. I love Lisa, she’s such a hard worker, greta talent, and beautiful person inside and out. Soooo happy she’s in TNA now, where she is being treated with the respect she deserves. As for the match, as much as I hated the ending, I realize now how brilliant it was, not only because it was a very solid Diva’s match, but because how well it fit the storyline of Michelle’s sudden heel turn. Only Victoria could have given the win to Michelle and had made Michelle look like a legitimate threat to the division (on Smackdown! at least). Great moments unfortunatley never do last…

This was a good match and was indeed a kind of passing of the torch. I must say, this is my favorite Michelle outfit of all (wrestling wise).

I actually stopped watching before this happened for a little while and when I found out I was bummed, but happy for her. I quit watching because I wasn’t a fan of the diva search stuff, made me shy away. I feel like she’s one of the best and I really liked her speech. When I was watching TNA the night she debuted I about freaked, I was yelling Victoria before Tazz could spit it out. I don’t know if there were rumors of it or not, at the time I didn’t pay much attention to that stuff. She’s one of the most genuine people in the business it seems.

Seeing her leave was so sad, at that point everyone I grew up watching had left. I never understood why WWE started jobbing Victoria out in the last 3 or 4 years of her career after having her go over Trish, Lita, and Molly (the top divas of that era) so many times in 02-04. I always felt like, not only did it hurt Victoria’s reputation, but that of Lita, Trish, Molly and the rest of the gang as well. Which was weird seeing how Trish is always built up as THE diva.
Her going to TNA was a greta move, though. She’s treated wonderfully over there. Not as good as her crazy heel or early babyface days before losing the title, but good nonetheless.

Wow I remember back in 2006 when I wasn’t really into wrestling I tuned in and saw her and Torrie vs some Blond chick in a handicap match aka (my first diva match ). At that time I thought wrestling was all real and I remember how much I hated Victoria in that match due to how she was beating the shit outta her face opponent. Fast forward to 2009 that is when I started to like her due to how good her in-ring skills are by the time she made her TNA debut I was hooked, but now I;m unhappy with her current roll and lack of ring moves due to the requirement of a heel turn for any knockout in today’s TNA.
