Divas Title Match Draws Raw’s Greatest Viewer Gains; Original Plans For the Match

evekaitlyntitlematchLast Monday’s edition of Raw saw the Divas Championship match between Eve Torres and Kaitlyn post the greatest viewership gains of the night, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The match, which was Eve’s final WWE match and featured Kaitlyn winning the Divas Title in her hometown of Houston, Texas, was part of the segment that gained 509,000 viewers, the night’s biggest gain in viewership. Its quarter of the show had a 3.33 rating.

The stats are even more impressive when compared to The Rock’s big closing segment, which only gained 207,000 viewers.

This news could serve as a sign that, much like fans of TNA’s Knockouts, WWE fans are specifically tuning in for the Divas.

Also on the topic of the Eve/Kaitlyn match, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is also reporting that Monday’s match was originally scheduled to take place at the Royal Rumble.

The report states that it was Eve who convinced officials to make the switch, as she felt that it would be better if her final night and Kaitlyn’s big title win took place in Kaitlyn’s hometown of Houston.

Yay ! Hopefully the wwe takes this as sign that people want to see the divas, I hope kaitlyn doesn’t get depushed for being “too good”.

    • WWFoverWWE

kaitlyn doesn’t have to worry about that. She’s not “too good” by any means.

      • k2evecrew

She’s not that bad either , I was talking more about how wwe doesn’t want the girls doing better than the guys & since her title match got high ratings they may see that as a problem, especially if it beat the rock

        • WWFoverWWE

The title change being leaked along with Eve’s departure was enough for people to tune in.

People should only celebrate fi the divas spike ratings on a weekly basis, not just one night where one of the top divas was reported to be leaving.

        • k2evecrew

I think her leaving may have influenced it a little bit but I doubt 500,000 people are going to care about eve leaving unless they’re actually eve fans or diva fans I personally wouldn’t tune into raw because someone was leaving unless I liked their character. I actually only watch it for the divas

        • KaitlynLover<3

You´re just saying that because it wasn´t your favourite Diva who got more viewers, because I´m shore if it was Lita appearing doing it now you would say how good she was and that she was the best Diva ever -.-

        • K2Evefan

@k2evecrew dont pay @wwforeverwwe any mind he/she is supposedly a diva fan the only words running through his/her keyboard are negative aand pessimistic. Obviously people tuning in for the divas match couldnt possibly be wattching because they actually enjoy kaitlyn and eves feud (sarcasm). Anyone that thinks even the majority of those 500k+ people had any idea that monday night would be eve’s last match is crazy because the majority of wwe fans are casual fans and dont keep up to date on whats going on behind the scenes.

        • WWFoverWWE

@K2EVEFAN People today are well connected to the internet and any breaking news will travel through the net.

Something like Eve leaving and dropping the title is gonna spread fast because it’s interesting and note-worthy.

You clearly aren’t in tune with reality.

    • christopher_cc

i do agree on the whole kaitlyn better not get in trouble for being to good but as for you only watching for the divas sounds a little bit odd i mean come on yeah back when divas actually got storylines and such i could believe that but the way they are treated now i can’t do you really get more entertained over a 1-2 minutes divas match than the feud between cm punk and ryback? i’m not being rude i just think it’s weird that you’d say you only watch for the divas and they are getting such little TV time while the guys get lots of TV time

      • theprincedann

        K2EVEFAN:

You believe half a million people tuned in, on purpose to see Kaitlyn vs Eve? Seriously?

        • K2Evefan

Aww yay another comment i can add to the irrelevant lists, thank you.

        • christopher_cc

@THEPRINCEDAN apparently you commented on the wrong post or you can’t read at all because i said nothing about half a million people tuning in to see kaitlyn vs eve

      • fatima

        @CHRIS

I also watch WWE and TNA to see the Divas/Knockout in action… I’m not entertained or should I say: poorly entertained by male wrestlers, I can only relate to a few of them, with that said, they still don’t get me interested in finding out what will they be doing next…

So no matter how poorly WWE advertises and treats their Divas, they is still out there people like me who keeps track with them because we can relate to them :)

      • k2evecrew

I used to be into the guys back when punk went off on cena but I stopped being interested as of lately. I don’t know why but something about most of the guy feuds bore me even though they get time

        • Raekon

I too watch mostly only the Divas matches and segments while skipping everything else.

Once in a while I might watch a whole show or more matches depending if while skipping the males, something interesting pops up.

I think the last time I watched a full show was the Raws 1000 episode and a very good smackdown that aired back in oktober or november 2012.

Other than that checking NXT, Superstars and the mains shows for Divas action only.

I know for a fact that I’m not the only one and K2EVEFAN already confirmed it.

      • K2Evefan

I tivo raw and smackdown and only watch the diva segments and matches reguardless of how long they are, its called support. Once the divas lose our support they will never be able to reignite the division because they wont get any chance at all to draw in new fans. I mean a 1 minute match to show the world just a little of what u can do is better than no match because that equals no chance.

  • fatima

    Proud of them :)

  • JD Sensations

The Royal Rumble script was apparently leaked online and it says Kaitlyn will defend her title, and the script shows it will be a 10 minute segment (entrance and match)

Anyway, I think that was very nice of Eve to let Kaitlyn’s title win be in her hometown, made the win that much more special!!

    • TheGamergirl22

I was hoping for a 10 minute match

  • http://shohanusa.proboards.com/ LuckySeven

Good news for sure, hope the WWE takes that as a sign for what they should do.

  • DJ8946

Thats good hopefully whatever #1 contender match we get on RAW willget some time. I say do a 4 way. Layla, Alicia, Natalya, & Tamina. If Layla or Natalya win have them shake hands. If Tamina wins have Kaitlyn come in to give her congrats her & Tamina attacks her. There is no way Alicia will win :(

  • http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/ebd751d8870fd0545e5dae93bebe7c49.png Giggles

    Yes! Well deserved views!

  • DivaMatches

That’s PROOF the divas can draw if used correctly ! Let’s all hope this means many positive changes for the Divas Division

  • wwesvrrocks101

WWE will HAVE to take notice in this. I’m pretty sure that they mustve been impressed. Now it’s time to take advantage. Lets give a real feud to these girls. Lets have Kaitlyn come out and cut a promo. Then let’s have AJ come out and rip off Kaitlyn and insult the crowd to get some attention to Kaitlyn. Then have Kaitlyn push down Aj and then Tamina attack Kaitlyn from behind. This will set up their feud. Then Kaitlyn will feud with Alicia Fox and Natalya in 2013 and then AJ will turn face and Kaitlyn will turn heel and they will re0feud in 2014 or 15

  • shameronstar

With all the bad news and negativity there’s FINALLY a silver lining for the divas! This is definitely great to hear because I don’t remember the last time the divas drew! Take that “Restroom Break” sign guy I hope someone kicked you in the shin to add insult to injury( just kidding:P)! Kaitlyn and other divas are probably going to get more scene time and effort put into their matches and hopefully a good title storyline for this:D

    • KaitlynLover<3

I was thinking about that guy with the sign LOL I was so pissed with him -.-

    • aldo

but remember that WWE prefer to give more air time to the guys, as they’ve shown multiple times. I really don’t know if these news are good or bad for the divas…

  • Lily

Wow, that’s a first! This is probably the first time, we’ve heard of the Divas gaining the most viewers through out the whole show.

I hope it leads to something!

    • NY Pollard

Ahem..well there was that Divas tag match on RAW in 2003 that reportedly scored highest ratings. Not sure why…

      • omfg712

Which tag match was that? I’m sure some of the Dawn Marie/Torrie segments from 2002 gained viewers. In Torrie’s shoot interview, she said WWE was putting them in the segments that get the highest ratings, I doubt they were doing that without the proof that people liked seeing that storyline play out?

        • NY Pollard

At the time they did a segment break down and it seemed like Lita-Trish vs Molly-Gail Kim got the biggest ratings. Then again, as AJFan said…it is the highest rated slot of the two hours, but I think the women now (Kaitlyn/Eve) and then (DivasTag), deserve some credit. It is up to them to keep those viewers tuned in after all.

    • JD Sensations

Kelly Kelly vs Maryse gained 333,000 viewers one time (mostly due to Kharma). Trish Stratis vs Vickie gained 600,000 viewers as well… that’s all I know of.

  • https://twitter.com/TheWorldOfEric She’sGotLegs!

Wow, this is great! WWE needs to take notice of this and give the fans what they want: quality diva storylines and matches. I bet Eve feels good that her last match drew in a great amount of viewers and got a great rating as well. What a way to make your exit Eve: Your match with Kaitlyn was better than The Rock’s concert segment : )

  • WWFoverWWE

It’s only because the story broke earlier in the day that Eve would be leaving and the title would change hands.

    • shameronstar

Considering only the iwc would know of this and most iwc could care less about the divas I find it hard to believe at least over 500,000 people from at least the iwc would bother to tune in.

      • WWFoverWWE

it broke early in the day so it had time to get around. I mean it wasn’t just the title change that was reported, but Eve also leaving.

Those 2 juicy details probably spread everywhere.

        • Jinzo

When was the last time that dirtsheet spoilers ever showed an increase in ratings? And do you mean to say that dirtsheet news about a diva can gain more viewers than advertised appearances from legends? Hell, WWE can’t even get a ratings boost when they post spoilers on their own website.

    • Jay-Ro

@wwfoverwwe Are you that ignorant that you think that just because these dirt sheets stated that Eve would be dropping the title, that would increase the viewers for their match? C’mon now, why are you so bitter?

      • WWFoverWWE

I aint bitter…it’s the simple truth. The reporting of Eve leaving and dropping the title is what made people tune in. It had all day to spread through the net and It raised interest so people tuned in.

    • hado

@WWFoverWWE you do know the IWC caters for something less then 10% of the WWE audience.

      • Raekon

        Don’t mind him guys.
He would do anything in his power to put down anything good that’s related to Kaitlyn.
Just go through everything he writes about her in any thread and you’ll see what I mean.
        No surprise here. :p

        • WWFoverWWE

          @RAEKON I’m stating the TRUTH.

        • Raekon

Sorry but this is YOUR truth, not a fact.

Fact is that we had similar situations with other top divas leaving after their last match and even icons like Lita, Victoria and Trish and they still didn’t draw so many viewers as Kaitlyn and Eve did.

The truth is, that the WWE FINALLY invested in a lenghty feud for the divas that was interesting, entertaining and fun because it gave the girls time to develop their characters so people could connect with them more after such a long time with random stuff and 30 seconds matches.

It showed cause people knew the background and what happened the last few months so they wanted to see the outcome.

Most of all and I think we can agree on that all together, Eve and Kaitlyn put up good, entertaining and refreshing matches in their feud which involved different moves and outcomes everytime unlike previous reigns like in Laylas random matches that she always won clean or Kellys constant roll ups over everyone.

Check also the segments in smackdown and the match between Aksana and Kaitlyn which I also found good (It looks as if Aksana or Layla will be her first contender too).

Another fact is that no matter if you dislike Kaitlyn or not, you should had supported the division as a fan should do and be happy that Eve and Kaitlyn managed something most divas couldn’t in many years, cause the outcome of it could lead to a improvement of the division in overall and less restrictions for the girls.

That’s something I know you want as much as all of us do, cause the truth is that 30 seconds matches, filled with tons of restrictions and no background, feud or storyline annoys everyone of us.

        • JD Sensations

@raekon I’m sorry but Trish and Lita’s last matches were on PPV… I don’t understand how you can draw on PPV

  • Blac Chyna

Wow congrats woohoo…wwe still going to treat the divas the same either way so why bother and wwe wouldnt give a damn if all the divas has to quit

  • http://cmpunkscrazychick.tumblr.com xoxoRKOxoxo

This is great, and Eve was so sweet to let Kaitlyn have her moment in her hometown, she really is a sweet person!!!

  • Mikas

The diva match was inbetween Mick Foley’s HOF announcement and a CM punk match. You cant credit that gain on just the diva action. So i doubt WWE management will change their policy on divas on this until they can repeat it on regular basis.

    • shameronstar

But the number didnt decline as what would be expected of a “restroom break” segment, so something was went right. I don’t know what it was though because otherwise the numbers would have took a nose dive as soon as the divas were on and because how they’re portrayed as after thoughts!

    • Jinzo

Actually, Foley’s Hall of Fame announcement LOST 400,000 viewers and CM Punk’s match afterward LOST 140,000 viewers. There’s really no excuse for it, in the divas match GAINED viewers in between a time where they were losing them.

      • Jinzo

I mean is there any other reason why every other segment before and after the divas match lost viewers?

      • shameronstar

This isn’t diva related but I’m surprised those 2 segments didn’t draw considering the Shield is rising in stock as a commodity and CM Punk has been a main eventer and wwe champion for over a year! In fact, it shocks CM Punk doesn’t draw more than he does!

        • Raekon

          @SHAMERONSTAR

I think the problem with CM Punk at the moment is that his whole Injury thing and the whole whining 24/7 got dragged for way too long so people start losing interested due to the lack of progression.

It’s normal aswell since no matter how much you like a superstar, if he gets overused and most of all put into a storyline that starts interesting but gets dragged to eternity without any conclusion, people start losing interest.

Foley is a nice person and all but seriously, his gimmicks and active time are wayyyyy back in time.

So newer generations that don’t know him or care about him would rather take a “restroom break” at the time he is in a segment instead of losing a match that gives them some in ring action instead.

So it’s not surprising to me but rather a very welcoming change and a eye opener to vince and his management that Divas can draw viewers if used properly and without restrictions.

    • sasuke

      true.
the divas probaly wont draw that many viewers anymore. The WWE doesn’t really care about women’s wrestling and it’s sad. They good talent but they don’t want to give them the spotlight

  • Blac Chyna

Kaitlyn thinks she is Trish Stratus -.-

    • k2evecrew

I don’t remember kaitlyn ever comparing herself to trish

    • KaitlynLover<3

Kaitlyn is not Trish, she is KAITLYN, one of the future top Divas in the company!

      • Blac Chyna

She basically saying the next kelly kelly? Oh thats nice :)

        • Spike7000

No one is the “new” Trish Stratus and Lita

        • The_Tetra

So true blac chyna… wait you’re NOT a mind reader? then keep stupid assumptions like this to yourself

Kaitlyn has the potential to be the next face of the division, she’s got the ball so let’s see how she runs

    • theprincedann

The ring gear and the blonde remind me a lot of TS too.

But to even compare them is a huge insult to Trish. And I’m not even a huge TS really. I just think Kaitlyn is terrible, boring and sloppy in the ring.

    • Getdownwithachola

Are Trish and Lita the Godess of women wrestling or something???

      • redsandman99

According to most fans? Yes. It’s actually gotten to the point where it’s completely annoying and other fans are actually starting to turn me off of the two of them.

Fact of the matter is, while some comparisons could be made between Kaitlyn and Trish around the time of her first title run, Kaitlyn is NOT Trish. The personalities are different, the hair isn’t even close to the same thanks to the way Kaitlyn has hers, the wrestling styles are different…nobody should be the next anybody else. Let people be themselves.

        • Raekon

Kaitlyn only payed tribute to trish by using the stratusfaction once since she is a fan of Trish herself and already said it in a interview.

She tries to be herself and is called a “Hybrid Diva” unlike Trish that was rather called a “Model Diva”.

Like REDSANDMAN99 already stated, Trish was Trish and Kaitlyn is Kaitlyn.

There is no need to try and compare everyone the whole time, nor trying to place your own assumptions as stated facts anywhere.

Let the girls shine for once, it’s bad enough that the management and vince are holding them down.

We were supposed to support them instead, did you guys forgot that already?

    • JD Sensations

How do you know? Did she tell you?

  • shameronstar

Ok, just so there’s no unnecessary arguments can we all at least agree they didn’t loss any views! I mean give the ladies minimal credit at least. Come on, just give us just a small victory:)

    • Blac Chyna

You think divas getting matches 5 mins or less is something to be proud of? Child please

      • k2evecrew

At one point they were nicknamed the bathroom break & then next thing you know they pull higher ratings then the main eventers! It’s defiantly something to be proud about

        • puppies

Diva matches on RAW and SD have never been more than what they are now for the most part. On the occasion that we’d get a title match or two big names were going against each other, we would ussually get a good chunk of time (7-10+ minutes). But ussually matches were, on average, about 4 minutes long.

  • AdrianRay

I’m so proud of Eve and Kaityln! I honestly don’t understand why some of you are so negative! The match had build, it was advertised through out the show and it had buzz (even if it was Eves departure). This was an amazing moment for both ladies, it should be praised.

  • shannymac

    Yay!

  • Spike7000

Take that to the moron who was in the crowd holding a typical sign.

Be a fan of the girls no matter because you are a fan not because of what WWE tells you

  • https://twitter.com/TheWorldOfEric She’sGotLegs!

Wow,even when the divas do something as great as pulling in a great rating and garnering a decent amount of views, you people still find something to complain about.Don’t come on here and ruin everyone’s excitement about Kaitlyn and Eve doing something as great as this. It’s been a long while since the divas have pulled in viewers and ratings like this.We should be celebrating it,not ruining the fun and excitement by saying negative things.Grow up people, and learn to LIVE and ENJOY life instead of sucking the fun out of everything.

    • hado

      Amen.

  • DnelDivaLovin89

The Divas are the only reason I watch, them Sheamus and Ryback, the rest of the shows can be a lil boring.

  • SherriShepherdWWE

awesome, awesome, take a bow girls, congrats, DIvas beat the rock and everything, i wonder what WWE is thinking when reading that lol

    keep up the good work

  • theprincedann

Mehh. I think it was coincidence.

Personally, I’ve lost interest. I can’t stand to watch Kaitlyn in the ring, they pushed her far too early. Eve leaving, she was a good character, so shame. But you have Natalya. A great wrestler. Layla and Alicia. Two good entertainers. AJ. A great actress, who looks like she would lose a match to my gran. Completely not believable as a wrestler. Aksana. Who? Rosa. Very entertaining and beautiful valet. Horrible in the ring. And Tamina. Very vanilla and boring, in every sense.

And now they are starting a new Diva Search/Casting Call- specifically asking for bikini models. Just as there was hope, with SDR being signed, K2 leaving.. now the future looks dimmer than Taminas ring gear.

Thank God for TNA, SHIMMER, SHINE and WSU.

    • KaitlynLover<3

AJ is a good actress? LOL, my dog is a better actor!

      • theprincedann

There is a reason she has been put into the primary focus slot over the other divas.

        • KaitlynLover<3

I´m shore it wasn’t because of her acting skills, maybe because of her size, it fits the character, but her acting, god, its cringe worthy!

      • gl83

So, the reason AJ’s been placed in such a prominent role for the past year is because of her size? Please, now you’re pulling things out of your ass. How does a person’s height fit the character they play? Her crazy chick character could be played by any Diva regardless of size(i.e. Mickie James to Victoria), it’s the quality of her work that makes the character sn that has made her the most promnent Diva, not her height

It’s been mentioned several times by other wrestlers that wrestling is a story. Well, without being given a mic, AJ can tell that story with just her facial expressions and her body language alone. Not too many Divas are able to do that and I think that the fact that she impressed WWE Management and did such a good job when she was in smaller roles, urged them to give her bigger and bigger roles as time went on. No Diva since Trish Stratus and Lita has been consistently pushed as AJ has, not even their recent “golden girl” Kelly Kelly.

  • https://twitter.com/Qwon_23 3xplicit

I read on another site that it lost 200+k

    • Acrant

      That was for last week.

    • theprincedann

But that got ignored. Everyone on here thinking and hoping because one diva match gained ratings, they’re gonna turn around the division. WWE cares as much about the divas division as their fans do: not at all.

      • puppies

Honestly, the Divas got high ratings. In fact, the HIGHEST of the night. You can’t argue with numbers. You can try, but you’ll fail.

Gosh, I feel like the Divas can never win. They’re always in the wrong for something. They’ve been working so hard and improving so much, but no matter what, they’ll always be the piss break barbies who can’t wrestle.

      • drewrey

Holy Cow, what is with all of this negativity. @Theprincedann, do you even like the divas, and if not, why are you on here spreading your negativity. I understand having your opinion, but gosh, I do not understand why you are trying to say that it was a coincidence. Numbers do not lie.

        • theprincedann

I think people on here confuse negativity with realism. Fact is, because just once, in what I believe to be pure coincidence, the ratings were high during a diva match, people on here are acting like the second coming of female wrestling is coming.

Factually, not true. WWE has given up on women, that shows because they’re advertising for bikini models to audition. Difference between the two groups of people that use this site.

Most are fantasists. Few are realists.
          I know where I fall.

        • drewrey

I know where you fall too, in the delusional category, you forgot that one. Please save your long post, all I see is complaining and negativity. I know the difference well. Whatever though, I think you are confusing facts with stubborness.
