On this day in history:
January 25th, 2009 | At 2009′s Royal Rumble, the Glamazon Beth Phoenix defended her Women’s Title against Melina. Beth did her best to thwart Melina, tossing her around like a rag doll and making her kick herself in the back of the head (ouch!), but a fast reversal into a roll-up pin earned Melina the win and the right to call herself the new Women’s Champion.
What are your memories of this moment? Tell us in the comments!

I loved this match! Both ladies looked amazing, and their styles really gelled together whenever they fought.
But the roll up Melina used was great :)

By far one of my favorite matches! Always loved Melina’s work! Love how they play up her flexibility and how it’s a good/bad thing :) lol and I always replay the roll up at the end it looks so cool!!!!!! :D

I think the match was tarnished somewhat by a miscommunication in the middle, but Beth making Melina kick herself in the head with her own foot was unarguably the spot of that whole PPV.

Obviously I Quit was the highlight of their feud but Ido love this and it wasa really nice moment for Melina. That ring attire worked so much better with the extra accessories and the matching boots.
It took Melina a little while to get into her face character after she returned from injury. She was on fire prior to that when she was more of an anti hero than anything else and the crowd were really getting into her, but she didn’t really retain that when she came back in November. I do think though that she eventually transitioned well into a strong, strong babyface who was almost superhero like in a way. By the time she was drafted to SD she was flying.

I MISS MELINA SO MUCH!! this match was amazing, definitely one of the best womens matches of 2009 (probably after michelle vs melina at NOC). I loved how these 2 divas straight up wrestled each other yet their was also innovative and high impact spots. That part where beth made melina kick her own head is just breathtaking. These 2 definitely had amazing chemistry. it was also great seeing melina once again win the womens title against the odds by returning and defeating beth :)

I miss her too. This was a fantastic match. Melina (and Beth) can always put on a great match. These women should have continued to be at the forefront on the division for atleast 3 more years all the way up to 2015.

What ever happened to Melina? I feel like she dropped off the face of the earth! She doesn’t even tweet anymore, or least I haven’t seen her tweet anymore. And she doesn’t make anymore YouTube videos either!

She hasn’t done any independent matches lately because as far as I’m aware she’s been injured for the last few months. She didn’t go into details though. Melina and JoMo are appearing in a film or web series (I’m not quite sure what it is yet :P) called The Darkness Descending though; there’s a trailer online and Melina gets to do a nice Primal Scream at the end of it. :P
I want to see her back on television because I think she has a lot more to offer as a performer but so long as she’s happy doing what she’s doing then I don’t mind. I feel she got a lot of unnecessary and unjustified stick during her WWE career so I understand if she wants to take a bit of a break from it all.

Melina is a great wrestler and what bugs me is that she was fired, because of her backstage drama..and yet people like JR are bashing young talent for being “too nice”..I’m not saying it’s okay to go around and tell your bf to not cooperate with a person, you believe is stealing your spotlight…but still,at least she shows passion, they could’ve handled her much better.
