To celebrate Black History Month, WWEClassics.com has taken a look at ”Barrier-breaking African-Americans”, and Diva Dirt Legacy Award winner Jacqueline is featured on the list.

The former WWE Women’s and Cruiserweight Champion was described by Jim Ross in the article as “one of, if not the most underrated female performer ever to work in the wrestling business” – a comment that we here at Diva Dirt wholeheartedly agree with.

Jackie, who has performed as a wrestler and a referee during her career, has also been a manager to various superstars, including Booker T, and the Smackdown GM said that his former Harlem Heat manager was “definitely one of a kind — a female who has done it all in every organization. She will go down in history as one of the best wrestlers that’s come along in the game, not just best black wrestlers. Jackie has set a very, very high standard.”

Jacqueline began wrestling in the late 1980′s and became WWE’s first ever African-American female champion.

The Dallas, Texas native has also wrestled for WCW and TNA in her career and was even the first woman featured on the Pro Wrestling Illustrated 500 list.

So glad, I don’t think WWE has ever done anything for Black history month, so I really appreciate them for that.

Jacqueline’s wrestling career is a lot more colourful and extensive than most are probably privy to. I would love for a DVD release that profiles her. Anyway, I’m glad that she was recognised here. I’ve always loved Jackie’s tenacity.

So happy to see her get recognition! She was one of my favorites when I was growing up.

  6. dude why dont they add her to the alumni?
They feature her Tori, Terri and The Kat in various Diva pics once a while, but none of them have been acknowledged in the alumni, i wonder why

Jackie was awesome and her wrestling ability was miles ahead of the divas. She was featured in the PWI list as the on,y woman at some point, this before they did the women’s list. Love Jackie and glad she’s getting a little love from the E.

Well deserved and congratulations to Jackie! :)

I wish they would add her in the hall of fame one day cause she deserves it much more than several others.

Still great to see that she gets some recognition cause she is one of a kind. :)

I would also like to say that yesterday I was looking at pictures of the attitude era women who were Champions and saw one of Jackie with the title. That image just got to me in an emotional way. Because I thought of how proud Jackie must’ve been to be the Women’s Champion and how she only held it for so little and only to put over less talented women in the ring than her. She never truly got a good reign like she should have. I go back to the year 2000 where the division was revived for Lita and Jackie could have captured the Championship during the Invasion perhaps? I don’t know, but she really deserved it more and it pisses me off they didn’t give her a proper reign. Same with Luna and Terri Powers.

FINALLY WWE gives some recognition to Jacqueline. She is legit one of the toughest women wrestlers in America and and excellent martial artist (black belt). She was practically a legend in the southern territories when she was wrestling for USWA. It’s a shame neither WWE nor TNA gave her much. I know she held a couple of titles in WWE, but was always overshadowed by someone else.

Her run in PMS was really, really entertaining. I always found her interactions with Terri so funny.

JR really gave Jacqui her props in the WWE writeup. I kind of got the impression that she had to tone down her style, but he confirms it in the article on the website. I think if both her, Ivory and Tori (Terri Poch, who was in that Sable stalker storyline) arrived in the early 90s when it was Alundra Blayze, Luna Vachon and Bull Nakano, they would have got a lot more recognition. That era had some of the best women’s wrestling in the WWE but it was so limited as the division was built around the Blayze/Nakano feud.

Though she carried it as well as she could, I think Jackie’s ghetto fabulous girlfriend to Marc Mero was drastically different than the gutsy dame that was slugging men all over the joint in her earlier career. If anything, Jackie was more fitting for the character Sable had during her incredible ascension to main event popularity. Not only could Jackie talk as tough, but she could fight twice as tough as Sable. (I’m not detracting anything from Sable, because I still watching her to this day.)

I agree with the opinion that Jackie probably had to tone down her aggressive style in the ring, even though she still looked awfully brutal when she was dishing out offense to the girls. It’s a shame the WWE never truly built upon her appeal, but I do think she’s still enjoyed an incredibly long and fruitful career in the industry. Her longevity really speaks for itself.

Great to see Miss Jackie recognized! She is truly one of the most underrated women wrestlers and a living legend. She’s had a storied and interesting career. And it’s great to see her get her due! She was truly a trail blazer.

  15. Search Youtube for ‘Lawler knocks out Miss Texas’ from there out you’ll be able to see her early work in USWA…

I loved her here, she’d smack anyone who got in her way!!! =D

“Jacqueline began wrestling in the late 1980?s and became WWE’s first ever African-American female champion.”

Jackie should be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame for this reason alone. She is a trailblazer.

I agree, but you know WWE has their own views on who is better and Jackie isn’t it. Jacqueline did receive the DivaDirt Legacy Award though and that is a beautiful thing. She truly deserved it. I would not mind seeing Jackie comeback in a managerial capacity to her own stable of wrestlers. That would be a good way to bring her back to WWE. They have Vickie Guerrero, who is more like the average woman, so I don’t see that age or looks would be too important there. Jackie is quite beautiful still imo.

I think the women who are considered obscure choices now will simply take a little bit longer to get to the HOF status. Jacqueline is cemented in the history books, and I honestly think that one day whether it be in this decade or the next, she’ll get there.

  17. Jackie was really rough but i could never get past her massive implants to really take her that serious even thou she was a total bad ass….

  18. 09DHK

Jacqueline was definitely underrated. Sure she was “stiff” as many of her opponents may say, but pound for pound she’s one of the toughest females to step in the ring. I don’t know if anyone knows this, but she inspired the likes of Jazz to become a professional wrestler. WWE dropped the ball by not having them feud; it would’ve been EPIC!

  19. DIVASKO

The best trash-talk women in wrestling. The segment when she attack Lita the week before her hardcore match was so funny.

  20. One of the toughest ladies! in women’s wrestling history love the cage match with GAIL KIM in Lockdown ps she was underutilized in the wwe towards he end
