On this day in history:
February 18th, 2008 | Poor Maria Kanellis wanted to pose for Playboy, but her jealous boyfriend Santino wasn’t so enthusiastic about the idea. He wrote up a contract stating that she would only be allowed to pose for the magazine if she defeated Beth Phoenix. Clearly, Santino didn’t think Maria stood a chance against Beth, but he didn’t count on Candice Michelle returning and helping Maria get the victory. With the win, Maria was free to grace the cover of Playboy (and, not to mention, get that Playboy push).

I’m glad Maria got her Playboy spot, but I think Candice should have made a bigger impact for her return. I wonder what happened here that her return wasn’t made more special than it turned out. I guess in retrospect it wouldn’t have made much of a difference since was injured not long after this.
Wendi Richter vs Leilani – Never seen it. I do remember watching a video of Leilani wrestling Lita in an indie show. She was one of the women who trained her too.

They rushed Candice back when something happened with Ashley; I don’t think Candice was even cleared to wrestle when she returned here. At the time the official word was Ashley has broken her hand (Melina even referenced an injury) but obviously that wasn’t true as she had to return when Candice re-aggravated her clavicle injury. There were rumours about drugs with Ashley, but I wouldn’t like to speculate.
At the time (and even looking back) it was obvious they were building up Melina/Jillian vs Maria/Ashley, so I’ve always pondered where that left the Women’s title situation. I think a triple threat match (Beth vs Candice vs Mickie) would have made sense, and would have been really interesting. It seems silly now to talk of two divas matches at WM!!

Maria is very beautiful, but I always thought Torrie Wilson was probably the most beautiful of all the divas. Her body was perfect and her girl next door personality made for a perfect diva.

Yet another “girl wants to flaunt her sexy body, but boy won’t let her” angles. We saw it with Marc Mero and Sable, and again with Tajiri and Torrie Wilson. To a lesser extent, Eddie Guerrero initially balked at Chyna posing for Playboy (including going to the Playboy mansion to try and stop it), but eventually warmed up to the idea. It’s only a matter of time before they do it again.
