WWE Superstars Redux (February 21st, 2013): The Funkadactyls Face-off Against a Reunited Salt & Cracked Black Pepper

Superstars Funk vs Salt

What’s up Diva fans and welcome to the WWE Superstars Redux, the second one in two weeks! This week, the twelve people who watch this show have got the treat of a tag team match featuring four fan favorites. The Funkadactyls, Cameron and Naomi will be going up against Alicia Fox and Natalya, the glorious team that Booker T once called “Salt & Cracked Black Pepper”! Make of that what you will, as I still don’t have a clue what he meant by it, but nevertheless, the team with more face/heel turns than Kane are back together, and they’ll be hoping that the veterans can easily dispose of the rookies. Which duo will win and and who will take the pin? How will Cameron handle being in the ring with one of the stars of her all-time favorite match, Alicia Fox? It’s time to find out!

I hear some funky music and as this is Diva Dirt, I think we all know what this means… NAOMI! Oh, and Cameron. But still, Naomi! Both girls are looking blazing in blue (a bit of paradoxical writing for you there!) and both are of course, accompanied by the ruler of Planet Funk, Mr. Brodus Clay. The Momma’s of the world have seemingly all been informed of this match as the music ends the sound of a screeching guitar, which can only mean one thing, Natalya! Nattie is joined by Alicia Fox and the girls are looking beautiful in black! Both teams are looking good and we know that they can deliver the goods, so who’s coming out on top?

The match starts with Natalya mocking Cameron’s funky moves, before both girls lock horns with a collar and elbow tie-up (call that Tony Dawson!). Following a wristlock and some funny trash talking from Natalya (she calls that weird waving thing she does with Khali dancing?), Cameron flips herself out of harms way, before applying a wristlock of her own – very nice! Natalya reverses the momentum again and executes another wristlock, before converting it into a headlock. Cameron pushed Tal off but it’s to no avail, as the Dungeon Diva knocks one of the followers of funk to the floor with a shoulder block.

More mockery ensues from Natalya, who runs off the ropes before flipping over Cameron. The former Tough Enough contestant then leapfrogs Natalya before showing off an excellent wheelbarrow armdrag! Cameron continues to impress with a monkey flip but she lets her good offensive display go to her head and starts dancing, and this is a definite opening for Nattie. The Calgary native knees Cameron in the gut before whipping her off the ropes. As Cameron runs the aforementioned ropes, Alicia Fox taps her head and this has the fiery Cameron reeling. The distraction from the Devious Ms. Fox pays off however as Cameron walks into a stiff clothesline from Tal.

Natalya stroppily sits on Cameron for just a one count before tagging in Alicia. OH MY GOD, CAMERON IS FACING ALICIA!! I’m sure Cameron is closer to flat-lining than I am, but wow, what an epic moment! Hyperbole over, Alicia spanks Cameron (she’s going easy on her because of the Tough Enough endorsement) before showing that actually, she’s here to play hard, and she proves this by repeatedly sending Cameron head first into the turnbuckles. The first ever African-American Divas Champion then uses one of her patented moves, the northern lights suplex, yet she only manages a two-count. Alicia now tries to knock the wind out of Cameron with a headlock as Brodus Clay tries to get the fans behind ‘Cammy’ as he calls her. Hooray, I have a new synonym for her! Cammy manages to get to a vertical base but the long-legged Lolita (blame Matt Striker for that one) shoves her opponent back down and get a count of one.

Alicia then tags in Natalya whom hoists Cameron up for a modified airplane spin. Cameron drops behind Nattie but it’s to no avail, as the daughter of Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart maintains her authoritative grasp over her foe. Alicia is tagged back in once again and things start to get slightly awkward as Cameron starts to fight out. Foxy pushes Cameron off the ropes and Cameron thrusts her idol to the ground, which could signal a tag to Naomi for the first time in the match. I was right (I hadn’t already watched the match or anything) and here comes Naomi!

The NXT Season 3 runner-up is fresher than a daisy as she brutalizes Alicia with a flurry of elbow strikes. The funky high-flyer then leapfrogs Alicia before hitting her stunning standing hurricanrana on Alicia, and Foxy sells it like a pro. Naomi then butt bumps Alicia right in the mush (better than Layla’s jovial kind) before celebrating her work by busting some moves. Naomi then runs at Alicia in the corner, but the Foxy Floridian sunset flips her way out of danger, for about a millisecond. Alicia’s momentum from the pin attempt is thwarted as Naomi grabs the middle rope and then drops all her weight on Alicia, Rikishi-style… without her bottom being naked… and without all the stretch marks.

Moving swiftly on, Naomi corkscrew elbows Alicia from off of the second rope before Natalya breaks up the pin attempt. Cameron then re-asserts herself into the match but Lou Thesz pressing Nattie out to the arena floor. Screams can be heard from the outside as Alicia whips Naomi into the corner, which the latter counters by rolling over the top rope. Alicia charges as Naomi but she flies right into an elbow. Speaking of flying, Naomi then hits a Springboard Crossbody, for the pin and the win!

Thoughts: Naomi is so bloody impressive. Her balance and fluidity in the ring are second to none and I am so, so glad that she is finally being able to show what she can do in the ring. It’s been a long time coming and I’m happy that she is getting quite a few matches under her belt before she is thrust into the main spotlight in the division. Cameron also impressed me, and although her stamina seemed to slip later on, she still showed me a valiant effort. Alicia was her usual self by selling moves like it was going out of fashion and Natalya, well, a bad word can’t be uttered about her! Her sarcasm was pretty funny and I love how vocal she gets in the ring. Overall, a stellar showing from all four ladies, and a glimpse into the Divas Championship scene come six months time? And with that, stay tuned, Jack will be back!

This match was ok. Pretty much Alicia and Natalya had to do a lot of carrying with Cameron in the match but Cameron had a few nice moments where she countered moves. The ending was good when Naomi interacted with Natalya and Alicia.

I would love to see Naomi in a match against Natalya or Alicia

Great match. I thought that when Alicia said Cameron was so ghetto was funny & thats fits into the title with the cracked pepper because she isn’t your average black girl.

Ok. Yes. Naomi is impressive. Yes ive seen all her matches to date. Im a fan. But before i say shes an amazing wrestler i want to see how she looks getting her ass kicked and how good she looks doing more technical ground work. Flash and no substance…. Yet. Anyways great match!!! I loved it.

High-flying is a type of wrestling. Not everyone has to be technical.

In terms of her “flash”, it’s impressive as hell. Why? Because she manages to execute such high-risk maneuvers with incredible ease and precision. It’s crazy, really. When I watch her, I get so antsy because some of the shit she manages to pull off is VERY easy to botch.

I’m sorry but that hurricanrana that CAME OUT OF FRIGGIN NOWHERE made my jaw drop. Also, kudos to Alicia for selling so well. Girl can sell, but that ain’t news anymore.

Now onto more important things: can we please kick Layla to the curb (sorry gorrl), and setup a triple threat Mania match between AJ, Kaitlyn, and Naomi? Thank you.

I absolutely loved this match. I was almost mad that there was no Nattie/Naomi interaction, but it’s hard to be mad at a solid match given by the Divas. Natalya’s ring-talk is hilarious, and her and Cameron’s back-and-forth at the beginning was so entertaining. Naomi, as always, was amazing. Alicia sold everything superbly, her offense was “eh”, but no one did bad.

I LOVED the match (and laughed a lot with: “I think we all know what this means… NAOMI! Oh, and Cameron. But still, Naomi!” XD)
I also love EVERYTHING about Natalya, she is my favorite. Natalya and Alicia dancing at the entrance was one of my favorite parts of the video. She and Alicia should feud with Kaitlyn, and don’t know, they should be inserted someway in the title picture, and it should be now, because the future of the WWE Divas Division, resides in Naomi and, yes, Cameron as well.

Another great match from niaomi. All the girls were on fire Natalya carried Cameron for most of the match but Cameron got a couple nice reversals in to show that she can move too. I also liked nattie’s & Alicia demeanor throughout the match acting like the funkadactyls were nothing but dancing rookies.
I feel like the purpose of the match was to build up niaomi & Cameron as good wrestlers & that’s exactly what they did. This is a probably one of their biggest wins since they actually beat former champs.
in my opinion niaomi is more of a number one contender then any other diva. The last time I remember her losing was to eve & she’s pinned everyone that her & Cameron faced. But then again they were all tag matches so that may not matter .

I cracked up on the title but I lost it on the “How will Cameron handle being in the ring with one of the stars of her all-time favorite match, Alicia Fox?” Hysterical.

I really like Naomi. She’s proving that she’s not a spot monkey by diversifying her moveset. I like that. She’s not predictable & always keeps her matches fresh. Cameron did OK but I understand that she’s limited in the ring. Alicia as the bully and Natalya as the taunter had a great dynamic. I loved Alicia’s selling and Nat’s mockery of the Funkadancing.

And I agree that the ‘E should slowly ease Naomi into things before placing her on the spotlight because it allows her to build a connection with the audience first. I’ve waited 2 years since NXT to see her on the main brands and another year just to see her wrestle. I hope they don’t screw up her character now that most fans are starting to take notice.

    Amazing write-up, Jack.

The match was okay. Naomi once again proving how impressive she is. She almost lost her balance while doing the butt bump though and there also seem to be some type of botch before she hit that cross body. I find it funny how Aksana and Rosa Mendes have both kicked out of Naomi’s cross body but Alicia wasn’t able too haha.

& LOL @ Alicia calling Cameron ghetto and Brodus mocking her.

YASSS. Now this was a good match. Everything was on point from the outfits, to the weave, to the athleticism and pacing. ALL four of my favorite divas in one match. And this is the first in a long time I have seen three black divas competeing in the ring at once. There were a few botches here and there but nothing match breaking. And Natalya needs to stop dancing. Overall Solid match. I am loving me some Cameron

This was a awesome match. Naomi is FINALLY getting to wrestle on the main roster (even though it’s WWE Superstars) and I love it. And Cameron didn’t look bad either and of course Alicia and Natalya are always great. I say Funkadactyls for WWE 2K14 definitely, and as playable characters this time. I’ll definitely have fun playing with Naomi doing that Butt Bump and Springboard Crossbody lol

    • i<3 sable and alicia fox

      February 24, 2013 at 4:00 am

Yeah I think they will definitely be in the game this year (playable) because they are really popular and over with Brodus and they always get crowd reactions.

Anyone notice that this is becoming repetitive?
    -cameron starts the match
-she is in the match for most of the time
    -hot tags naomi
    -impresses for about 2 minutes
    -picks up the win

    Naomi should start the match

I don’t care what anyone say, Cameron is pretty damn good in the ring. Her exchange with Nattie was well done and her selling is pretty awesome as well. Just because she’s Cameron and people already have these preconceived notions about who she is based on one episode of Tough Enough, people are gonna automatically withhold props due to her. And because she looked good in the ring with Nattie, people are gonna say Nattie carried her. Kinda sad. I for one never thought she’d be the only Tough Enough star to make it to the main roster, but now that she’s there and she’s showing that she’s more than just eye candy and has some actual skill, I’m gonna go on record and say I’m a Cameron fan. The match was really good. Everyone played their roles well. I like Nattie as an aggressive heel because the roster is lacking that right now. Alicia is sooooo underrated and it breaks my heart. She should at least be a two time Divas Champion at this point. Naomi is brilliant. If Shaniqua, Mickie, and Lita had a baby, it would be Naomi. I’m looking forward to the Funkadactyls getting more ring time. They’re the only ones not disappointing me as of late.

I don’t know about the rest of you but Cameron is really starting to grow on me. She is stunning, definitely one of the most beautiful divas of all time. I love Naomi,Alicia, and Nattie but something about Cameron really stands out. She is plays a perfect babyface in peril and can sell really good. Her small frame and spunk makes you get behind her. You really feel sorry for her. I believe that she has tons of charisma and a bright future as divas champ along with Naomi. They are a great combo. I also think Cameron could be a GREAT heel. #TeamCameron

    Her moveset expanded!
And she’s freakin sexy! Without a doubt WWE’s hottest chick! Dat Ass Naomi!! And at the same time kicking ass in the ring! Total package Naomi!!

Good match. I would have loved to have actual Naomi/Natalya action but damn, Naomi was on fire in there with Alicia. I like how that while she throws signature stuff in there (crossbody, booty call), she does throw in other stuff to keep it fresh (this time the spinning elbow from the turnbuckle and the banzai drop). Cameron did well playing the face in peril and I really do love that arm drag thing she does.

But Stone Cold, only with 2 moves has more talent than the attire CURRENT wwe roster combined.
