On this day in history:
February 25th, 2001 | The feud between Trish Stratus and Stephanie McMahon over Trish’s relationship with Vince culminated in a one-on-one match at 2001′s No Way Out. Due to both Divas’ lack of ring experience, most people didn’t expect much from the bout, but it turned out to be a surprisingly intense and entertaining grudge match. In the end, the daughter defeated the mistress when William Regal laid out Trish and set up an easy pin for Stephanie.

God,those two weren’t the best of wrestlers at this particular time, but they were super entertaining. Both had enough charisma to make people interested in their match and they had chemistry together.

This is my favorite Trish Rivalry. I remember watching Trish Stratus from her time with T&A (only being 4/5 years old) Staying up late on Mondays just to wait to see Trish Stratus. And hoping to see her on Smackdown too. Staying by her side no matter heel or face. And I love the time period of her with the rivalries of Victoria, Molly, Jazz, and Lita. I feel if you gave Trish a storyline she would roll with it and make it memorable. I just wish WWE would start doing it’s diva like they did back then. I feel the PG thing is ruining WWE.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Another die hard trish fan like me :-)

This is proof that two women with lack of skills can actually have a great match
Just let them show their own unique personality and give the fans a reason to hate or love them

Layla vs Eve was a solid match, the only thing that makes this better is both girls had characters, there was great build-up, and less restrictions as to what could happen.

^100% agree with puppies…no one can compare todays divas with back then because everyone had a reason to care about the divas then…

This is prob on my list for top 10 matches in wwf/e. I loved the storytelling this match did! Yeah these girls wernt wrestlers at the time, but this felt more like a fight. It was great.

This was just an amazing match! Amazing feud, the passion and the tremendous in-ring action was not what I had expected coming into this. This is one of my top 10 WWE Women’s matches, it was just so well done especially by two green people.

This was easily the best WWE match between two less experienced people. Steph only wrestled occasionally and this was before Trish wrestled full time.
The fierceness of this match is something they need to show whoever is booking the Divas today. Their feud was so awesome at the time and it gave the fans a reason to care. We need to see more real storylines involving the Divas which have this level of intensity.
Steph is just awesome in every sense. She was such a natural on TV. One of the best female characters in WWE.

I remember one time I tweeted to the divas to study this match more inspiration because you don’t have to be the most technical wrestler in the world to put on good matches because character, storytelling, and just a bit of of chemistry can take you a long way!

What I loved about this, was that at the time, neither girl was face, they were both heel (Although I guess Trish would have come across as face next to WWE’s biggest bitch of all time!)
The crowd just wanted to see both girls literally just tear each other apart, I loved the promo prior to this match & Test’s speech about how he hoped they both just beat the living hell out of each other! :D

This ^ is the reason why Steph is the queen bitch of all time ( sorry Vickie but Steph takes this one)! One of my fave feuds from all time. The angry daughter vs the fathers mistress, & daddy’s little girl got what she wanted! How can Steph be apart of this & watch how today’s divas are booked. This is proof that fans want real storylines that involve charecters.

I remember the unexpected fan interest seeming to genuinely shock both women during the match — watch again the look of sheer revel on Stephanie’s face as she’s basking in the rapture of the crowd. Both women worked the shit out of this storyline and it defined two huge female personalities. I was so invested in Trish’s villainy years ago that I delighted in when she was dished out her comeuppance; testament to her diversity she played the dumped mistress so sympathetically that you couldn’t help but cheer her on. A hugely entertaining match for me, even if both Stephanie and Trish were not first class grapplers.

I love this match. It was all kinds of hot, with Trish showing more than her passion, she turned it into an erotic match! XD

God how I loved SMH back when it meant what it should mean :)

I still believe Stephanie McMahon is the single-greatest female heel in WWE history.

Totally agree. Steph was unmatched. I still remember how she used to provoke the fans to call her slut
“Deep down I still have your support as your women’s champion, despite that filthy NAME you all call me..”
Fans resort to: SLUT SLUT SLUT chants

I totally agree. Stephanie is Queen of the bitch people LOL. What’s also funny is Trish used to provoke the fans to call her a slut to like when she said “You should hear what they’re calling me in that states” funny how great minds think alike.

This is the fued where Trish became my favorite and never stopped being my favorite. I was like 10 going on 11 when this whole fued started. I had just started watching wrestling and thought I liked Stephanie. But then a segment with her and Trish came on and I was like Stephanie’s being mean to that blonde girl. When I found out her name was Trish I was like forget Stephanie I like Trish Now. So that’s the story of how Trish became my favorite wrestler LOL. Side note I started Loving Stephanie again when she bought out ECW and never stopped she my favorite Mcmahon.

See, now this is how you book girls who aren’t that good in the ring!
