Exclusive: Trish Stratus Explains Why She Picked Stephanie McMahon as WWE Hall of Fame Inductor

stephtrishEver since 2013 WWE Hall of Fame inductee Trish Stratus announced that Stephanie McMahon would be doing the honors by inducting her at Saturday’s ceremony in New York City, fans have been wondering why the legendary Diva picked her former boss over all of the other memorable names who had a hand in her career. Well wonder no more!

“It was a difficult [choice]. There’s so many people who have had such an influence on my career and shaped my career,” admits the humble Hall of Famer-to-be in an exclusive chat with Diva Dirt ahead of her induction this weekend.

The seven-time Women’s Champion reasoned her decision to go with Stephanie as her inductor, explaining that she greatly admires her as an employer, on-screen rival, friend and businesswoman, and credits the WWE executive for kick-starting her wrestling career.

She said: “Getting a nod to be in the WWE Hall of Fame, it’s a look back at your career and at the end of the day, there would have been no career, no opportunity, no revamping of the women’s division if Stephanie wasn’t behind it all.

trishsteph2“When we feuded, there’s something about when you have an experience with someone that you bond with them. When we had our feud, we bonded then and we remained close ever since. She’s just always supportive of showcasing a strong, powerful woman. There would be no division and none of the women would have gotten the push that we needed, or the encouragement we needed.”

And Trish’s admiration of Stephanie extends beyond the squared circle, revealing she also looks up to Stephanie as a strong-willed businesswoman following her own post-WWE foray into the fitness business, with her growing Stratusphere Yoga line, which includes a yoga studio, DVDs and apparel.

The former Diva added: “She and I have remained friends. I’ve watched her evolve into a businesswoman. We were at the same level — green workers having fun wrestling and then she really just got behind the scenes and became a businesswoman. It’s very empowering to see the position she has now.

“I retired and went into the business world and with all my endeavors, it’s a tough world for a woman. I admire her greatly and respect her greatly.”

    Trish Stratus forever!

    • Virginia Devereux

      Preach!

  • MAXILLIAN

I respect her decision, I like that she explained it and I don’t have a problem with it! I love Steph she’s great.

  • SherriShepherdWWE

very good reason as to why, and i respect Trish for choicing Steph and really giving Steph the respect that she deserves in creation and helping the womens division

cant wait for the HOF, and to see Trish dresses

  • Melissa

Totally understandable why she’d want a McMahon inducting her.

  • AJFan95

Excited for the rest of the interview. Stephanie inducting her makes total sense and also ensures that her speech will be aired. Can’t wait to see this live!

  • redsandman99

Now that she’s explained her pick, I hope some of the temper tantrums about this decision stop.

    • Kitten16x

      ^This.

      • TorrieTrishStacyLita

        Thank you lol :)

I think that her reason for picking Steph makes total sense…..now am I the only one wondering why Steph isn’t showing this “much” passion and support for the girls now? I mean I know she’s a mum and stuff but still =/

    • partyguyhilton

It’s happening now because she is getting more involved, her kids are older now and the older we get the more divas we she. Hello Cameron has been on the main show for less than a year and she already has a match at Wrestlemania, when was the last time that happened?

      • Raekon

The main reason why Cameron is in a match in WM, is because the Bellas came back and immediately got added there so they needed a other tag team to feud with and the logical pick was the funkadactyls.

This way Cody and Damian are having a match there along with the Tons of Funk aswell.

Wouldn’t had been for the Bellas, Cameron and Naomi would had probably only danced again like last year in a one minutes showcasing or something or wouldn’t appear at all since Tons of Funk wouldn’t had a match there.

So in this case it has nothing to do with Stephanie and bringing in her Kids for her not to strengthen the divas division all these years is a big excuse cause if she had the time to run from place to place for the Be A Star campaign and many other stuff, she could had put a word in for the divas aswell (which she didn’t).

Also highly doubt she will as long as “Daddy” doesn’t want it.

  • CandiceMichelle&TorrieWilson

Stephanie Mcmahon & Trish Stratus two of the most meaningful Women that have been with WWE. So excited for the inducution, This is a monumental moment for the all Women’s Wrestling Fans around the world.

  • litafan2000

Good reason but I feel she shouldn’t have done that poll on her site because she knew most people was going to vote Lita and expect Lita to induct her. But Trish made valid points to why she choose Stephanie.

    • TorrieTrishStacyLita

Yea I agree with you on that. That poll was a no-brainer lol

  • http://twitter.com/DirrtySexyFunny Little Red

Now all the Lita fans can shutup after reading this. Hopefully.

    • Ace Of Base

How about you shut up and quit making ignorant comments? Anyways….

I’m glad Trish explained it because there was so much commotion in the women’s wrestling community (online) and this should atleast cool most people down. This sort of reminds me of a WWE Magazine article I read once with Trish, looking gorgeous as always, talking about Stephanie in character. They asked of her thoughts on Stephanie and she said something along the lines of, “She’s in the position that I desire…oops, I mean admire.” Which I thought was so brilliant of her to say and now it’s kinda funny how everything came full circle for Trish. Well that puts that to rest and now I just can’t wait until Saturday where tears of joy will be shed. You go Trish! And please, encourage Stephanie to push the divas again, you might be the only one she’ll listen to and with good reason.

      • http://twitter.com/DirrtySexyFunny Little Red

        Nah she’ll be right.

  • https://twitter.com/Oliver_James611 OJ Von Erich

Hopefully now everyone will stop bitching & moaning at her choice!

Stephanie made the women’s division relevant again, as much as I love Jacqueline that title became pretty stale, there was no real drive, focus or interest in the women’s division at the time.
When Stephanie basically took that title from her & paraded it around like she earned it, everyone wanted to see the women turn on her & beat the holy crap out of her since she never defended it without cheating!

Thanks to that, the women’s division picked up & the fans were passionate for it once again.

    • Spike7000

They had momentum when Ivory won the Womens title from the Fabulous Moolah but they dropped it in favor of The Kat getting the title and the Harvey Wippleman ordeal so then they stuck Jacqueline, Ivory, Luna, Terri, and the Kat alltogether until Jacqueline won it then it was a repeat since Jackie had no storyline but just facing Ivory, Luna, and Lita in series of match until the girls finally got a storyline with Stephanie winning it

  • k2evecrew

I’m happy if she’s happy & obviously she is. She probably didnt want the biggest moment of her career to be associated with lita, especially since a majority of her career was. Angry fans need to let her have her moment & be happy we have another diva going in the hof

    • k2evecrew

Btw I like the fuzzy purple top she’s wearing in the picture , she always had her own style with the cowboy hats & I think it helped her stuck out more when she first came.

  • richies88

it should have been steph and lita to induct trish but i understand wwe greatest ever diva get inducted by the top female in wwe

  • ajfan83

It’s kind of hard to buy Stephanie as this great supporter of the diva division, considering how badly it’s been handled in recent years. How silly will it look when they cut to current divas as Stephanie is talking and everyone realizes that most of them can’t even get a few minutes of screen time most weeks. Maybe Trish is sincere but she strikes me as the type who is smart enough to say politically correct things in a way that everyone buys it, when meanwhile she’s just making sure she is still tight with the McMahons going forward. Most really successful people are good at that double talk (Rock is another example), so I don’t really mean it as an insult.

    • MAXILLIAN

      this

      • Ace Of Base

Exactly. I’ve suspected this for a long time and I’m not trashing her at all, I think Trish is a highly intelligent business woman and who can blame her? There’s still money to be made with Trish in WWE and her likeness. She was the top diva of WWE for this reason, she always was a step ahead of the others.

    • litafan2000

I’m sure back then she was fighting for the division considering the group of dynamic women that were on the roster in the late 90′s to mid 00′s. But now the entire division is mess and has been since 2008. Now I will admit that I haven’t really watched the divas division since Trish and Lita left but tune in every once in a while to catch the divas matches and I have been embarrassed by what I have seen and its not even the girls fault. It’s the creative teams fault which I believe Stephanie is in charge of right? If she cared as much as she did back then she would be creating top notch stories like they did with Trish, Victoria, Lita, Mickie and etc. The matches the girls put on today are great but without a story no one cares. But I’m happy for Trish and I respect her choice.

      • TorrieTrishStacyLita

I agree. The fact that the diva’s now don’t engage in storyline feuds, is a big issue and is really why no one cares about the women’s division anymore. Its like, “Oh hey I’m a girl and you’re a girl with a butterfly title so I have to fight you”. The diva’s division is so stale and dry now. I think they need to have another Torrie Wilson/Dawn Marie story to make things interesting again.

    • Raekon

      Totally agree AJFAN83.

Of course the womans division “picked up” when Stephanie got involved, Vince wouldn’t let his daughter get embarrassed but would rather want her to be the top.

So it was obvious that the womens division would had picked up AFTER she got involved and created all these storylines.

Trish knows the backstage politics and that’s one of the main reasons why she got pushed 24/7 back then cause friendship or not, business is business.

Don’t wanna disrespect Steph but she actually never really did anything for the divas division till she got involved in it herself and after she went out things go dropped again because her daddy and the management dinosaurs just care about the women being girly and eye candys.

    • charovnica

Well,I hope you still realise that Vince coordinates everything that is going on in the WWE.So this does not mean Stephanie is not trying.Hell, from what I’ve heard even Hunter tries to make things happen for all the division, but right now Vince is more focused on other stuff. To be fair the division has been bad only for the past 2 years, cause even in 2011 we had some good story-lines.It’s picking up right now.

  • wweandtnadivafan

She is smart for picking Vince’s DAUGHTER to ENSURE herHOF induction is aired on TV!! *hint hint*

    • pumped up kicks

Lmao I kinda thought that too… but I like Trish’s reasons. They sound ok to me.

    • WweLitafan4ever

True. By having McMahon induct her,she bumped Mick Foley and even Bob Backlund off the televised HOF induction ceremony.

      • pumped up kicks

Foley being bumped is bull shit im sorry! Foley was one of the reasons why the attitude era was so great

        • litafan2000

Really being bumped? Who is being inducted on Tv besides Trish? I would assume Trish, Booker T, Donald Trump and Foley will be on Tv right?

        • revivingophelia

I think only a few inductions make the televised show, and I think Bruno Sammartino is being inducted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, which likely means he’ll be the third televised induction, and Foley, Booker, and Backlund won’t make the show.

        • redsandman99

The commerical that ran for it on Main Event said Trish, Trump and Bruno will be televised.

  • http://www.facebook.com/RatedReyn?ref=tn_tnmn RatedReyn

She obviously picked her because Lita is not available…

    • WweLitafan4ever

Lita’s going to be at Wrestlemania Axxess and the Hall of Fame.So nope.

    • partyguyhilton

Obviously you just didn’t watch wrestling when Stephanie was feuding with Trish and Lita.

  • Blac Chyna

i dislike Stephanie with passion im sorry

  • http://twitter.com/RyanRoman0 Ryan

I’m happy she explained. Very classy move Trish very Proffessional :)
But at the same time, Trish doesn’t have to explain a damn thing to anyone
Reason i say this is because I’m sure how much she was bombarded on twitter by u idiots complaining why Lita wasn’t it.
I’m a hardcore Trish and Lia fan but Steph is the better choice.. Simply because I love to hear Stephanie’s voice haha
So yeah, up yours to the whiners :)

  • Litaker61

Good for her. But makes you wonder why steph put so much effort to help the girls then, how come she doesn’t put her foot down and give the girls now a chance. They have a very talented roster and if they use the right people the right way (like aj last year) it goes to show that casual fans can still care about the divas.

    • Marlon Eric

Seriously… I admire everything what Trish said about Steph. But in order for someone to actually GIVE. A. SHIT…than clearly the women’s division has to be a strong part of the WWE when Trish competed, years after Trish retired and years to come. And that clearly hasn’t been the case.

So yeah, Steph sorry. You dropped the ball there.

  • drewrey

OMG, people still acting pretty ridiculous, even after she explains why she chose her. I swear, there are a bunch of diva fans who are very angry at the world, all they do is complain or make bitchy ass comments. Anyways, I am looking forward to the speech.

  • partyguyhilton

OMG this was unnecessary any true Trish fan would have known right away way she chose Stephanie. This is not the first she has accredited Stephanie with jump starting her career. Just look at her career timeline what happened shortly after this feud she became women’s champion and wasn’t this the feud that turned her face, I believe so. Had this feud never happened Trish would be stuck on the sidelines after Lita broke her neck and was out for over a year. So yes her and Lita had an epic feud but her and Stephanie’s feud will always be in my memory because it put her over with the fans. Plus this is not the first time a top female wrestler was put over Stephanie in return for revamping the women’s division and making the Golden Era. For Christ’s sake she even put over Lita. Didn’t Lita’s first title win occur on the main event on Raw when she was feuding with who…..Stephanie. Even Lita accredits that as the jump start to her career because once again Stephanie really helped put Lita over with the fans as a singles wrestler. Disagree all you want, I just ask you watch Tirsh and Lita’s dvds first.

  • Raekon

Sorry but handing the Divas title to AJ in such a match its the hugest bullshit ever and another stupid excuse for not doing anything with Kaitlyn to showcase her as a legit champion.

Same thing they did with Layla before.

  • Raekon

Yes Trish…. Stephanie did SO MUCH for the womens division.
As long as she were in it. After that she didn’t gave two (you know what) and let the division randomly die the same way it is today.

Daddy and his management don’t really want the divas division to be strong and competitive anyway, all the want is eye candy that looks and is girly so little girls can look up to them by pulling each others hair while at the same time talking about on how “empowered” they are for being able to give a slap and a hairpull, instead of a flying punch right to the gut like a real wrestler would do instead.

  • http://www.twitter.com/KassCruise KassCruise

For ONCE it’s not about Trish AND Lita, it’s about TRISH and her career only. Why do people always have to complain? Its her who’s getting inducted, so let her have it the way she wants it! Congrats Trish!

    • Ace Of Base

I personally don’t care that Lita is not inducting her. I don’t even think Lita is the perfect choice, I’ve wanted Fit Finlay or JR to induct Trish. Stephanie in my opinion, is the SMARTEST choice she could have made, other than Vince himself. And again I don’t blame her, but this to me was never about “Lita and Trish,” It was about the best choice and my opinion was Fit since he was the man behind the women, but I’m over it and I respect her choice. I think it’s rather brilliant she chose Steph.

    • Raekon

I said in the other topic the same that it’s her induction and her decision which everyone should also respect instead of being angry because she didn’t choose Lita.

  • let the pigeons loose 12

I look at it this way trish and steph was a great rookie diva fued . And even lead to her slapping the chairman when in the past 5 years has a diva slapped McMahon.

Also trish will mention Lita in her speach it’s not like she’ll ignore the impact she had
