Today in History: Beth Phoenix vs. Layla at No Way Out 2012

On this day in history:

June 17th, 2012 | At No Way Out 2012, Divas Champion Layla had a big challenge in front of her: the Glamazon Beth Phoenix. She had faced Beth before, but that was with Michelle McCool by her side. Now, all alone, the odds seemed insurmountable. However, like a true underdog, she bucked the odds and defeated Beth with a well-timed neck breaker, retaining the Divas Title.

What are your memories of this moment?

Their Over the Limit match was better in my opinion. This still wasn’t too bad though.

Honestly, I enjoyed Layla’s title reign a lot more than Kaitlyn’s. At least Layla walked around with the belt when she got screentime, and she did her best to put herself over with the crowd WITHOUT being handed a well-written storyline. Also, I feel as though from a wrestling standpoint, a straight-up Layla/Eve feud without the injection of Kaitlyn would’ve went over just fine. Like Natalya’s first babyface run, a Layla/Eve feud would’ve gotten over with fans if they were allowed to display their in-ring ability.

This I agree. You could tell Layla was putting in effort given with what little WWE gave her. She didn’t sort of fade. A Layla-Eve feud would definitely been able to attract the audience IF they could display their ring ability as well as their personality. Backstage promos and matches that tell a storyline is a pretty sound way to solidify any Diva feud. I felt that throughout the whole Eve-Kaitlyn-Layla storyline, when Layla and Eve put on matches they were more enjoyable than when Eve and Kaitlyn did. That said, I really did enjoy their Hell In a Call match. Not bagging Kaitlyn btw, I do think she grew a lot as a wreslter during the feud and when she became Divas champion. But she didn’t really emphasize the fact she was Divas champion…

Remember also that layla & eve got praised for a houseshow match for being one of the best diva matches in awhile so they could have had a good feud….

Their over the limit match ad this one resemble eachother so much I have a hard time telling them apart(besides their ring gear and the stage).

I hate how you can literally see all the guys leaving during Beth’s entrance

I found Layla’s title regain to be beyond boring, not her fault at all though. Layla’s matches with Beth became stale rather quickly, thankfully they only had 2 single PPV matches together.

Layla worked with every-little thing they gave her & i wonder why they did this to her when shes well liked backstage same with kaitlyn…
beth had really reached the end she was losing to every & any diva on the roster…
