Impact Write-Up (June 20th, 2013): Brooke’s Getting Back to Business

Welcome, Knockout fans, to this week’s Impact Write-Up. Last night, Brooke Hogan made a ‘state of the Knockouts division’ address, which left fans both happy and confused, especially given the state of the division and some of its aspects. Namely, the tag team titles. Everybody buckled in? Alright then, let’s go!

We begin with Brooke making her way to the ring. She looks excited, and I would be too. I want to know what she’s got to say. There are several issues within the division right now that need to be sorted out, so hopefully this segment will do just that. Brooke enters the ring, where there’s a podium waiting for her. She begins by saying that she’s “so, so proud of the knockouts division.” She calls for the crowd to give it up for the Knockouts, which they do. I feel warm and fuzzy; I love when the women of this industry get the respect they deserve.

“But there are a few issues going on with the knockouts right now that I would like to address,” says Brooke. Awesome, let’s get to it!

She invites the Knockouts out to the ring, and here they come. First we have ODB and… Eric Young. One half of the Knockout tag champs, yes. Knockout? No. But this means good things, I hope, as the tag titles are on display. I’d almost forgotten what they looked like. Next we have Velvet Sky, Taryn Terrell and Gail Kim, who looks fierce as anything. She’s a little reluctant to get in the ring, but Brooke persuades her before saying that, apparently, Mickie James needs her own introduction. Damn right she does. Brooke introduces the Knockouts champ, and here she comes!

Mickie thanks Brooke for graciously letting her speak on the state of the division. Somehow I’m not sure that’s what Brooke had in mind… Nevertheless, Mickie goes on to say how proud she is to represent the division not only in the arena, but on red carpets, at awards shows, music videos and national commercials. Modest, she is not!

“It’s a full time job just to be me!” says Mickie. I love her.

But she just wants to reassure Brooke – whom she calls “Sugar” – that carrying the weight of the division on her own wee little shoulders is not nearly as hard as it is on Vel Vel’s knee. Brooke reminds her that the Knockouts division is not just about one person. It’s about the collective efforts of all these women that are Mickie’s equals. Ooooh.

In the meantime, Brooke’s got some business to attend to. First on her list? The Knockout Tag Titles. Thank goodness. These titles have had no direction for so long now, and it makes me angry that TNA has capable women who could be carrying them through great matches and rivlaries. TNA has the tools, they’re just not using them. Frustrating. I’m glad ODB is one half of the champs because she deserves that and more, but the fact that they’ve put the other half on a guy is infuriating. To me it just takes away from the credibility of the belts, because now they’re just a punchline. But I’ll get back to my write-up…

Brooke asks EY if he remembers a conversation the two of them had about a year and a half ago… Sure. EY then takes the mic and I kind of zone out a little bit. Something about him being a woman (duh), and technically she and ODB were never Knockouts champions so he’s just gonna hand those over to Brooke. Not even a fight from ODB? Not even a little bit of anger? Really? Well I guess even she realizes how redundant the titles are now. The good news? It’s national kissing day, apparently, and EY plants a big old slobber knocker on ODB. They roll out of the ring.

Back to business, thankfully. Seriously, Gail Kim’s face right there says everything about that. Anyhow, Brooke turns to Velvet and thanks her personally, calling her the heart and soul of the division after fighting through thick and thin, through injury and everything else. Brooke is proud of her. She knows Velvet has been hankering for her rematch and it seems as if she’s right about to grant it when…

“Wait, wait, wait!” says Mickie. “Need I remind you that the little pigeon is hurt, she’s a wounded warrior and she cannot fly this coup.”

Oh, Mickie. Too bad, because Brooke has spoken to Velvet’s doctor, and she’s been given a clean bill of health! Mickie and Velvet will duke it out next week on Impact! Gail takes the mic from Mickie and begins ranting about how she’s been forgotten about. I was distracted by Mickie in the background, posing for the camera and giving us some smiles. She’s adorbs!

Gail wants her rematch, she wants what belongs to her. NOW!

Brooke says everyone is talking about Gail’s match with Taryn. She says it was a great match that goes down in Knockouts history. Mickie in the background once again, and she’s not looking too impressed. Seriously, I love this new side to her. Brooke says Gail’s rematch will be in Las Veeeeegas baby, and it will be against Taryn, and it will be a ladder match! Whew, that will be good! Now that Brooke has handled her business, they are all free to go!

Later on Twitter, Brooke confirmed that Gail and Taryn’s ladder match will be a number one contender’s match! Check it out:

Thoughts: Why has it taken this long for the tag titles to be dealt with? Did management forget about them like the rest of the fans? Still, I’ll try not to be too negative. Hopefully we’ll have some kind of tournament to make them relevant again, or maybe they’ll be retired ot something… I don’t know. As for the segment itself, I didn’t mind it. I loooooved Mickie James; she was probably the most interesting part of it, let’s be honest. I hope next week marks the end of her rivalry with Velvet, though. I’d be pretty excited to see Taryn take the number one contender’s spot. It’s new and fresh and could be something brilliant!

For now, Eleri out!

I loved Mickie this whole ssegment. Especially when Gail was talking & Mickie started posing for the camera. Ok now I love that we are getting a ladder match but its random as fuck! They stopped the feud & then outta nowhere they annouce it. If that isn’t them trying to 1up WWE’s Kaitlyn vs AJ feud then I don’t know it is.

    • redsandman99

Though who else could be in the match? Velvet’s getting her shot next week, Tara and Tessmacher are nowhere to be seen, Taeler’s exposure on Impact has been limited and ODB’s the ref. Gail and Taryn going at it again is about the only way to go at the moment.

      • http://twitter.com/#!/JillianHallTNA TNAknockoutJillianHall

Tara has her restaurant and Brooke has her model show

    • let the pigeons loose 12

I don’t think they stopped it on purpose. I think gail or TT may have been hurt

    • https://twitter.com/Oliver_James611 OJ Von Erich

Well the Mickie/Velvet feud is soon to be over, they need a new #1 contender so I can see why they’re doing it.
And 1 up AJ/Kaitlyn LOL! I don’t think so, Gail/Taryn was brilliant, it was more like WWE were trying to 1 up TNA

  • redsandman99

I thought tag team titles for the KO’s was a good idea at the time but they were never handled well for any length of time. Mickie was gold on the mic though Brooke wasn’t so her end came off really awkward and forced to me. The announcement of the ladder match has me excited at least.

  • BarbieBlank

Mickie was hilarious in this segment
I see Mickie taking out velvet for good in the next match, purposely injuring her so she won’t have to worry about her going after the title , then taryn will win the number one contenders spot and have to fight off both Mickie and Gail the following weeks after. Eventually she wins the title and then velvet comes back healed from her injury and turns heel by challenging taryn

  • JJ

I want Tessmacher back. She’s better than Velvet in every way.

    • Divafan0118

I want her back so bad she’s my all time favorite

  • Wrestling.fan.from.France

Damn, this segment was HORRIBLE! Brooke is not that great on the mic, she is still new so i don’t think that she should have been the center of the segment! Mickie was the ONLY good thing about the segment, i love her as a Heel! She was soo funny and sarcastic especially when Gail was talking and she was posing, it was so funny!

And FINALLY, THE KO TAG TITLE HAS BEEN DECLARED VACANT! It was about damn time!

I love the fact that Tna are giving us Good matches but why not keeping the momentum after INCREDIBLE MATCH OF THE YEAR CANDIDAT like the
Taryn/Gail match?! The divas have been WAY BETTER those past week and after that match at Payback, they new how to keep momentum! For
once, Tna, you should take notes!

I’m really excited for the #1 contenders ladder match between Gail and Taryn, a bit less for the Mickie vs. Velvet because of the build up this but I’m ok with that.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/JillianHallTNA TNAknockoutJillianHall

I’m loving the Knockouts segments since Mickie turned heel! They are brilliant!! :D Lol at EY saying how long the KO Tag titles were in the closet too long anyway xD I don’t want them to retire, that would be stupid since the titles are the youngest in the company, they should be used like they used them in 2011, as a push to future stars like Winter, Rosita, Tessmacher, Gail, etc. now just give them to Blossom Twins or Taleler or Tara and Mickie James because Mickie James held Women’s, Divas, KO title and only needs to held the KO Tag Team ones! Hahaha :D

  • Johnyfaction3

Good segment! I didn’t like how shallow the roster looked though. The ladder match even if is random, will be a lot of fun. Is pretty predictable since Mickie is a heel.

OBD and EY were champions for 478 days D:

  • Divafan0118

I was so happy to see all of the great things the Knockouts are doing, and finally, we once again have 2 titles for them to compete for. I’ve never been more excited for a Thursday Night in my life.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/JillianHallTNA TNAknockoutJillianHall

we’ll see about that since next week it’s Mickie vs Velvet, in 2 weeks it’s Gail vs Taryn and the the week after I doubt they will make a KO Tag Team championship match after an epic ladder match (hopefully, I have no doubt about that, I only need a prof) so maybe next month live they will announce 2 tag teams (they don’t have enough KOs to do tournament anyway) who will compete for the championship since they will have no story to do except Taryn vs Mickie, but they can squeeze that match in somewhere! :)

  • MrMexican99

I wish something shocking would’ve happened. Like the return of Angelina Love to reunite the Beautiful People or the return of Karen Jarrett. I wish Tara & Tessmacher were adressed.

This segment had it good points and bad points. I’ll start with the bad points:

1: Brooke was awful here on the mic, not good at all.
2: Understandable that these 4 knockouts are the centre of the division + ODB but it would have been nice to atleast see Tessmacher, Tara and Tessmacher there.
3: No match but honestly, I prefered this as it set everything in stone for the next month or so.

    Now good points:

1: Mickie was great tonight on the mic. Both hilarious yet serious.
2: Taryn & Gail set in a #1 Contenders Knockout Ladder Match!! YAYY!
3: Velvet vs Mickie final encounter? set for next week.

Just something, some of you fans are STILL complaining. First, nothing good was happening with the knockouts. Recently, a fire has been lit in the division again and now it will happen again as Taryn & Gail are set for a ladder match. Some of you fans are saying, what, this is happening out out know where and their feud has been on & off. I honestly don’t care whether its a feud or not, look at when the ladder match between Taylor Wilde vs Sojo Bolt happened, that was out of know where and wasn’t a feud, it just happened. Atleast this Taryn/Gail ladder match has a tad of meaning behind it as they have feuded recently, had a match at the PPV & now, it’s happening again for these 2 and truthfully, I think this match will be the best match of the night.

    Mickie hahaha yes she’s adorbs

    But holy shot!! Ladder match????!
I love these girls but hate seeing them with ladders :(

    • Bikini model destroyer

      Muahahahahahahahahaha

      Yeah Baby :p

  • Sarah Connor

    1. First of all it was great to see Gail laughing at Mickie’s dig at Velvet.
    2. LMAO @ Gail’s facial expression when she saw Eric Young and ODB slobbering all over each other.
    3. Mickie and Gail reaaly are holding this division high and flying at the minute – the two are knocking it out of the park everytime their on the mic. love’em!!!

shame there was no Tessmacher or Tara but i think they’ve probably got side commitments hence why they were unavailable. All that needed addressing was addressed with the required KO’s that have been prominent in the past 2 months.

What would have made this segment any more interesting and exciting is if we saw a new KO debut or a returning one but i guess they can save that for another day.

I would say Taryn is the fave to win and go on to feud for the title which yes it does feel fresh and i think Taryn and Mickie have good chemistry so i would be interested for this to haapen.

i didn’t mind that we didn’t get a match this week after taking into consideration that we get a LADDERS MATCH and 2 matches next week!!!! WOOT WOOT. :D

    • Sarah Connor

whoops, misread the dates for the announced matches. lolz!! glad to have read the spoilers for next week’s mickie vs velvet. :)

  • NT86

Heel Mickie is absolute gold. Her promos are so funny and entertaining.

Looking forward to that ladder match.

And thank GOD ODB and EY vacated those titles. Either scrap them or revive them once more Knockouts get hired. Presumably the Blossom Twins would be involved in something like that. I’d also like to see a BP reunion down the line, and they bring back Angelina Love. Her and Velvet never held the titles together despite having so much history together.

  • divaindemise

The state of the division was summed up by the fact only four active Knockouts were addressed. Yes, TNA has done a marvellous job scripting these four – Gail and Mickie in particular – but it would be nice to see other girls developed.

It would seem fairly obvious that Taryn will beat Gail in the ladder match but I don’t doubt that it will be good. Mickie’s excellent promo work has me actually interested in a feud with Velvet, who has no aversion to being a mouthpiece on the mic either.

The tag titles will retire, I think. The roster is far too condensed to consider a competitive division for it. I don’t see that changing anytime soon either.

  • https://twitter.com/Oliver_James611 OJ Von Erich

Can I just say… Brooke Hogan is absolutely GORGEOUS!

Oh & Gail Kim, you are just gold, you continue to make that knockouts division what it is. I’ve always preferred this Gail over any of her previous runs in TNA & WWE/WWF! :)

  • aldo

Mickie stole the whole show for me here. Since here entrance…I love Mickie James. When she said: “That’s not even a real doctor!” and when she stars to pose to the camara when Gail is talking XDDDD
I’m really excited to watch a ladder match, but not that much because I know Taryn (the invincible knockout) is going to win. But I lso know that is going to be one heck of a match.
Now, I was expecting to see Tara and Tessmacker.
And the knockout’s music theme is way better than the divas one. It sound great.

  • MsXxxdiva247

    They need more knockouts around.
