Kaitlyn Talks Being a Last-Minute NXT Addition, What Makes Her a ‘Hybrid Diva’

WWE.com has given us a look at Kaitlyn‘s interview from the July issue of WWE Magazine.

In the interview, the former Divas Champion clarifies what her “Hybrid Diva” moniker means, how she landed on NXT at the last minute and if her history with Dolph Ziggler has ever come up with AJ Lee.

On why she’s the “Hybrid Diva”: “I call myself the “Hybrid Diva.” I’m kind of a mixture of all the different women that we have on the roster. I’ve got this tomboy-ish thing about me, but I can be a “girl,” and I can wear heels, though I don’t like to. I don’t fit any sort of mold. I know a lot of the girls don’t these days, but I truly want to be the first Hybrid Diva. It’s what I want to be known as when they look back in the WWE history books.”

On how she became a last-minute addition to season three of NXT: “It was a Friday, and I was driving to the gym after practice at FCW. I’d been there for four weeks and hadn’t even been in my first match yet. I didn’t have a pair of boots, and I didn’t have a dress or real wrestling gear. I got a call, and they said, “Hey! Guess what? You’re going to make your TV debut in a few days.” I had to get on a plane and go straight to my first live Raw that Monday, and then I debuted on SmackDown. I only had two days, so I literally had no time when I got home. I didn’t know how to dress. I wish I could show you some of the stuff I bought that first day.”

What goes through her mind when she hits the spear: It’s like the breath leaving their body. [Laughs, somewhat maniacally.] The moment that I have the opportunity and know that I can hit it, it’s silence—I don’t hear anything else. I can’t hear the crowd, I can’t hear them, and I just hear silence. And that’s pretty much when I know.

Have AJ and Kaitlyn talked her past with Dolph Ziggler? That’s something we don’t talk about…ever. It’s like the elephant in the room. My policy is, “You can have that.” But I won’t say a word because honestly, I don’t know what she’ll do.

The full interview can be found in this month’s issue of WWE Magazine, which is on newsstands now.

She’s a “hybrid-Diva”. Fine. What she isn’t is a wrestler or a worker. She’s slightly more than the other models they brought in and try to pass off as wrestlers; Alicia, Aksana, Kelly, and Candice among others. I say slightly because when she first got inside the ring, there was tons of upside: She took bumps, her cardio was good for a typical 2-minute WWE Diva match, she has a natural charisma, but more than that, SHE COULD SELL!

    She was excellent at putting over other talent while she was learning. But like it or not, pro wrestling is something you just can’t fast track and be successful. It’s an art. It’s not something you can just learn overnight. And now, you’re seeing with Kaitlyn just why you cannot be fast-tracked;

She no longer sells like she did…her conditioning is lacking…she’s gotten very soggy around the middle which is why she no longer wears the skimpy outfits. She’s become lazy due to the entitlement the Diva fast track brings.

There is hope for her though. The talent is there. And a year and a half or so from now, when she’s ultimately released from WWE, she’ll most likely be out of the wrestling news while she waits out her 3 month no-compete clause and then end up in OVW learning how to work the right way.

Forget trying to be a “hybrid-anything”. How bout concentrating on being a worker the business can be proud of?

….the hell are you talking about?

“and then end up in OVW learning how to work the right way.”
        -have you watched ovw before?

I used to laugh at her until her fuel with we. Now I’m a fan of kaitlyn. What r u smoking…I’ll admit, kaitlyn isn’t amazing, but she’s at least knows how to fight. Nattie and aj have great chemistry with her. Plus this is like her 3rd year only and she has a lot of time to grow.

She has to be one of the luckiest Divas in WWE.
First, Aloisia was released, because WWE found xxx photos of her on the internet, so she couldn’t compete in NXT season 3. Then, Kaitlyn was put in NXT, 2 days ago as we can read. Eventually, she won the competition, and became WWE Diva,
Then, in a battle royal, she wasn’t supposed to throw out Eve Torres. But, mistake happened and she won the #1 contender spot. WWE put Eve as champion soon, but continued to push Kaitlyn into storylines, who later won Divas championship.
And they continued her puh, even though her arrest (it wasn’t serious at all), but just to mention it :)

thats not being lucky, everything happens for a reason, maybe Kaitlyn was destined for success, but in the most odd ways you can think of and what seems to be a ” mistake” but it really isn’t, Kaitlyn will be a Legend in this divas division, mark my words.

    • redsandman99

I still don’t believe that whole it was a mistake that she won the battle royal. She clotheslined Eve over that top rope and like there wasn’t a way Eve was going to be able to hang on and stay on the apron like people were saying without like her shoulders going out of their sockets.

      • ricky_says_hi

And don’t forget that they showed a graphic saying “#1 contender Kaitlyn” as well. Why would they have a graphic made if Eve was supposed to win? They’re hardly going to make graphics for all the Divas and if it was a mistake they just wouldn’t have shown one. Besides the end of the battle royal doesn’t look botched in my opinion

@ Francisco i doubt any of the current divas will be legends…they’ve all been downgraded thanks to vince…

I love Kate. She’s hot as hell and she can take hits!!
Still remember the sick kick Michelle gave her and she took it to the face like a champ

  • flash1086

The people who thinks Kate won the rumble by mistake are idiot. You dont just win by mistake unless there’s an injury. Hell, they would even change the camera number and have Eve get back in the ring like nothing happens. The botch excution was on Eve’s part by not selling smoothly.

  • MomoMufFinSsFTW

Kaitlyn saggy? No kaitlyn wears tops that show her belly region even if they aren’t bra’s I can still see kaitlyn’s body is in good condition same for tamina and aksana

  • BarbieBlank

People on this site are crazy
Pretty sure they’d stop pushing kaitlyn all together is she was “saggy”, they could easily write her off with a fake injury and tell her to go tone up while taking the time off.
Anywho I like kaitlyn and she is one of a kind , she’s strong like Beth was but can look sexy when she wants & has a spunky attitude.

  • iLUVValets

Wow I remember Cryssi predicted how Kaitlyn got called up to the roster and Cryssi was 100% right on the money. Kaitlyn truly is a very lucky diva. She literally took the ball and ran with it

  • Ambrose-DivaFan

I was upset she won NXT, just because I really felt Naomi or AJ should’ve won just on part of how much training they had! But I believe sets her apart from being “Beth Phoenix 2.0″ is her personality! Don’t get me wrong, as a heel Beth is great, she was born to play one! But Kaitlyn is so charismatic! In some of her promos, the content isn’t bad, but the delivery is great! I do like Kaitlyn a lot! I think she has improved so much from her horrid match with Maxine on NXT, I think she was a worthy champion and definitely could have been that much better had WWE not drop the divas for a while! I like the AJ/Kaitlyn feud a lot because they are great friends outside the ring and it shows inside, they mesh together great! I think this feud is not going to be the next Lita/Trish, it has taken a Mickie/Trish turn to it, and I am liking it!

  • Sentry85

I know that this has nothing to do with the topic, but have you guys seen that it seems the TNA Knockout Tag Team titles were deactivated?

  • charovnica

I like Kaitlyn.I mean it’s easy to judge someone who has very little experince and has been thrown to the deep water before she even learned how to swim. She’s improving and I hope one day she’ll grow to be an amazing wrestler.I love the way she delivers the spear most of the time,it really looks devastating.
