NXT Redux (December 18th, 2013): Paige & Sasha Bash, Lana & Kofi Clash and Emma & Nattie Talk Trash

sasha vs paige

What’s up Diva fans and welcome to this week’s NXT Redux. It’s double duty day again here at Diva Dirt and as promised, I’m back! After Main Event’s awesome showing, NXT has also provided some excellent stocking fillers for everyone. In backstage segments, we get appearances from Emma, Natalya, Devin Taylor and Lana. In the ring, NXT Women’s Champion Paige takes on one third of the BFFs, Sasha Banks with Alexa Bliss on ring announcing duty. As always with a Sasha match, Summer Rae is not far behind and yet again, Charlotte is keeping a low profile – the bloody coward! Without further ado, let’s jump right in.

TO THE VIDEO!

The first segment this week featured Emma and Natalya. Emma danced around as Nattie was looking at a monitor backstage. Nattie says she is watching Tyson Kidd‘s match and Emma nearly poked her eye out. Emma, whilst being mega annoying, was nowhere near Nattie’s eyes and Natalya, the match just finished – I guess you’re on a delay! Nattie re-iterates that she is watching the match when she clearly isn’t and Emma says it’s her bad, how dare she interrupt the big reality TV star that no longer cares about NXT, unless she inserts herself into a title match! Tal retaliates by saying that Emma can’t talk, she won a title shot thanks to a “silly dance off”. Emma and Nattie say that dancing and wrestling are in their bloody respectively before Natalya issues a challenge to “tango” with her in a match to see who truly deserves a match against Paige. Emma accepts before both girls trade adjectives before walking off and I scratch my head at what the hell I just witnessed.

We’re out into the Full Sail Arena next as Sasha Banks sasses her way to the ring. Her and her fellow BFF Summer Rae click together, showcasing the FIERCE that is within their team name. Alexa Bliss is also doing a great job on ring announcing duty. Kendall Skye and Veronica Lane better watch out! Out next is the Sally to my Harry, the NXT Women’s Champion, Paige. Paige as usual, laps up the amazing reception she gets and as usual, I’m air guitaring to her entrance music.

The match starts out full of aggression. Paige goes ballistic on Sasha’s weave before ‘The Boss’ retaliates with a mega slapfest to the chest. Sasha runs toward Paige in the corner and gets hoisted to the apron. Summer makes her presence felt by distracting Paige, which allows Sasha to snap Paige’s neck over the top rope. Sasha stomps Paige like the art of kicking arse is going out of fashion and then she mocks Paige’s trademark banshee scream. Paige tries to mount a comeback but Sasha stays on her, locking in a vice-like sleeper hold complete with body scissors. Paige writhes in pain for some time before finally getting back to her feet and breaking free by ramming Sasha into the tunrbuckle. Sasha fights back with a slap to the chest and she then looks set to hit her springboard armdrag. For the second week in a row though, the move is countered and Paige has the opening she needs!

Paige brutalizes Sasha with a flurry of consecutive clotheslines before taking her out with a sweet dropkick. Paige runs across the ropes, yet her arch rival Summer trips her up. Sasha then charges at Paige, only to miss and kick Summer in the face. Paige hits a hard thrust kick before transitioning a backslide position into the Paige Turner for the win.

Our final Diva segment of the night sees Devin Taylor interview Kofi Kingston. I proceed to watch paint dry whilst Kofi drones on and then I put my paintbrush down when Lana pops up on screen. The Russian Diva speaks in her native tongue before Kofi is all diplomatic and is like “I’m so sorry lovely lady, I can’t understand you.” Kofi, grow a backbone and a personality please! Lana then says that her client Alexander Rusev wishes to crush Kofi in the ring next week. Kofi accepts as the mysterious Lana departs. Video of the segment isn’t embeddable, so click here to see it.

Thoughts: First up, let’s address Emma and Natalya’s interaction. Like Nattie’s segment with Paige a few weeks ago, things seemed a little off here, with both characters acting like tweeners. Whilst Natalya raised some good arguments (about Emma winning a dance off to become #1 Contender and her amazing line: “you think I haven’t earned it?”), some moments left her coming across as a right prude and totally annoying. “I’m trying to watch a match.” THE MATCH HAS ALREADY FINISHED! I am really excited to see these two clash next week though. It should be a masterclass!

Sasha and Paige’s match was one of those bouts where although it’s short, it felt really long. Nothing dragged for me, they had excellent chemistry and it was action packed, with dramatic aggression, interference from Summer and intriguing miscommunication between the BFFs. I loved the way Paige didn’t let go of Sasha’s wrist when she consecutively clotheslined her and the transition into the Paige Turner was really unique. It’s great to see that the girls are coming up with new ways to make finishers stand out and not seem like they are creating the same moment over and over again.

Finally, I loved Lana. Although Kofi Kingston’s mic work was horrendous, Lana still made the segment enjoyable. Her latest WWE.com interview has made me fall in love with her character and I can’t wait to see her and Alexander debut their new sports team look on NXT TV. Lana is definitely a one to watch in 2014. And with that, stay tuned, Jack will be back!

First of all, I was really hoping the Paige/Sasha match would go a little longer. These always worked well together ever since Sasha debut late last year. I really dig Paige’s triple ripcord lariat, I wish she uses it more often. Second. That Nattie and Emma segment seemed so forced. Especially when they are trying to be funny. It’s not working. But I’m sure while they don’t well together backstage, it’ll be probably completely next week in the ring. Meanwhile the Realest Guys in the Room and Aiden English segment this week was comedy gold. Plus I got Devin, Lana, Alexa and Tyler Breeze continues to shine as the best diva in the whole division in his involvement in the main event.

  • BorisG

Match was kinda ok, half of it was spent in Sasha’s submission on Paige. Love Sasha’s chops.

And that segment of Emma and Nattie was so shady! Both brought every thing out of each other. Can’t wait for their match.

I really enjoyed Sasha & Paige’s work together, they seem to have a great chemistry & Sasha is doing a great job in her ‘Boss Banks’ role!
Summer continue’s to bring the charisma to ringside & I couldn’t help but laugh at the finish.
I also loved the Paige Turner here!

Lana intrigues me more & more each week, it’s nice to see a diva getting weekly consistant use & being able to develop on the mic.

Devin Taylor has an adorable look & Alexa Bliss did a great job. (Get her doing backstage segments already NXT!)

I’ll reserve my thoughts on the Natalya/Emma segment & just say that I look forward to their reportedly incredible match! =D

  • Sass.

Paige and Sasha were great again, but tbh.. I found myself a little bored. We’ve seen this match so many times. NXT needs to bring a few girls to TV, namely Becky and Raquel. Lana was once again excellent. Love that girl. Emma’s best line was the ‘FAN..tabulous…’. She is so much better at being awkward rather than goofy/stoned.

  • Benjamin D

I just realized that by the end of this Nattie will be on NXT for 6 straight weeks. Did she get demoted or something?

    • redsandman99

If she wasn’t appearing on Raw and Smackdown as these aired I’d say yes. Given that she has been on TV though my guess is that they just wanted the NXT girls to get some work in with the most experienced diva they have on the main roster.

  • 3xplicit

it’s interesting that people don’t complain about Paige title reign when she won the NXT women’s title 3 days after AJ. (altho it aired a month later) and in this case, AJ has defended her title numerous times compared to paige 2 or 3 times. mind you i love both aj and paige.

    • OJ Von Erich

It’s been mentioned a couple of times, but I think the difference with NXT is, because it actually delivers good matches, secondary stories for the girls & backstage stuff, that it’s not a huge focus/issue.

As compared to the divas on the main roster, we are barely given much & when we are, it doesn’t satisfy enough people, plus it lacks in storyline progression.

That’s my take on it anyway…?

    • wwepassion

Because nxt has better storylines and all the girls are well liked.

    • Benjamin D

RAW and Smackdown are taped once a week, plus the PPVs. While NXT is taped once a month. I’m sure if NXT is a real weekly program, Paige would have defended that title a lot more.

    • evwill100

I think the difference is: other divas are being developed parallel to her reign. There are so many characters that division actually seems competitive. It makes the division look credible and makes the title seem like a “you-pay-your-way-to-make-it-to-this-spot” kind of deal. Meanwhile, AJ ran through the all of the total divas (within a couple of months) so there really insn’t many people that could make competition believable (storyline wise)

  • wwepassion

Good short match. I can’t wait until the Nxt diva’s take over the main roster!

    • Mariah_Scarey

      It’s going to be magical

      • wwepassion

It defiantly will hit the restart button in the division.

        • Benjamin D

They have to get a different creative team then. Then again, NXT creative uses some of the same writers as Smackdown, so hmmm….

          • Mariah_Scarey

They have different creative for each brand?

          • Benjamin D

            Yes.

          • wwepassion

The nxt girls are way better then the current roster girls. So i think they can handle any story better then the current girls who aren’t liked very much by fans.

          • Benjamin D

You can have all the talents in the world, but if you aren’t utilize it properly. You won’t really be able to showcase your full potential.

          • wwepassion

At the same time its up to the talent to take advantage of they’re opportunity no matter how dumb it is and most fail at it.

            ——————————

          • Benjamin D

If the creative is strong enough, they can always showcase the positive and mask the negative. If you were old enough to remember what Paul Heyman did in ECW back in the days, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

          • wwepassion

I know all about that but it works to ways.

            ——————————

          • The Review Fox

            Thank you!
Please don’t think this is weird but I want to give you a kiss on the cheek :)
I knew there was a different vibe to SmackDown than RAW, Especially over the last few weeks. Somewhat edgier and more interesting.
Wonder if they’re the same folks to do Main Event.

          • Benjamin D

I think ME and Smackdown are indeed share the same writers, since both shows are taped together.

          • The Review Fox

Cool. thanks for the info :)

    • OJ Von Erich

I honestly don’t believe it’ll be any different, they will be limited & watered down, much like the main roster divas! =/

      • wwepassion

        No they won’t. Think positive.

        ——————————

      • 3xplicit

        basically

    • CrazyGirlAJ (#ChickBusters)

They better debut two NXT Divas first then.

      • wwepassion

        I doubt that.

  • Mariah_Scarey

I honestly think they should use this new “attitude” that Natalya has gotten as a way to turn her heel. I’d rather have an arrogant Natalya than a pitiful one.

    • RatedM for Maryse?

      She is a bit pitiful..

      • Mariah_Scarey

She’s just like Shanae, always looking sad for no reason, I don’t feel sorry for you ma, stop.

        • RatedM for Maryse?

          Let me fade her.

          • Mariah_Scarey

Why would you hit her while she walking away!?

          • RatedM for Maryse?

            PACK YOUR SHIT! YOU’RE DONE!

          • Mariah_Scarey

            THE TURN UP IS REAL!!!

          • RatedM for Maryse?

Lol..Benze hopped over that couch like the Ice Age squirrel she is.

          • Mariah_Scarey

Lol looking all sporadic everytime she heard Shanae trying to fade her

          • RatedM for Maryse?

She looked scared as hell everytime Shanae yelled.

    • 3xplicit

      lol

  • DamienLayRoyalty

Lol paige’s pain face looks like the grudge.

  • Benjamin D

Tonight’s the final night at FCW Arena. So many memories, eh Paige? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bb4Bg1sIAAAh1qc.jpg

  • MrFoxana

Natalya annoys me so much. It’s her acting, it’s horrible

  • MrFoxana

Emma, is developing her mic skills so well. When she was like “fan…tabulous” and her facial expressions, she makes me smile!

  • Donatello Wilson

1,) love to see how every NXT diva is salty on Nattie. Still waiting on Bailey to take a shot
2.) Sasha sold the hell out of that Paige Turner
3.) PLEASE don’t breakup the BFFs!!!!

    • MrFoxana

If anything! Call Summer Rae up to the main roster full time and give her a Massive Push, then take either Dana Brooke or Charlotte to take Summer’s place

      • CrazyGirlAJ (#ChickBusters)

        BFFS-Sasha Banks,Charlotte,and Lana.

        • MrFoxana

LANA! No way! She is great with the Russian Gimmick. Dana Brooke needs to be a BFF!

          • Donatello Wilson

i have a thought. y not have Rebecca Lynch in to replace Summer and have a personal rivalry with Paige?

          • MrFoxana

Becky Lynch doesn’t suit that sexy mean girls type. Either Dana Brooke, Devin, Veronica or Carmella. Becky Lynch needs to debut though, she has already been wrestling for over 5 years!

          • Benjamin D

I love how all of the NXT girls have porn star/stripper names. Good job, WWE creative team.

          • MrFoxana

Omg! Hahahaha! They should just use their normal names!

          • Donatello Wilson

wwe should have tried to get santana garret. yet again. they missed awesome oppertunity

          • Benjamin D

That’s not true. Santana is an indie wrestlers, the WWE can get her anytime they want. Plus there’s about 20 girls at the Performance Center right now. That is a lot.

          • I dig CrayJ (#Emmalution)

Santana would play a great BFF!

  • evwill100

Sigh…. Natalya… So much wrestling talent… yet, not enough charisma to carry a backstage segment. I think the problem is she doesn’t have a strong personality. Emma can do sooo much with a goofy, funny character, AJ shines as a crazy person, Paige’s aggressive promos excel in her rage-filled persona, Summer Rae can cut through someone effortlessly as a mean girl, yet Natalya seems to struggle to find her way as a veteran face. She either whines and cries, comes across as entitled or lacks personality all together. I hope she has a heel turn coming up soon.

    • MrFoxana

I see your point, she is horrible as a face, divas of doom!! Yeh she was great back then.

      • evwill100

Divas of Doom, her debut, her (red haired days) feud with Michelle McCool to be the first Divas champ, her ECW days: she’s a much better heel

        • MrFoxana

As a face, she’s way too OVER excited all the time! Example: in her entrance she screams and yells! Please, Please give us a heel turn! Along with Aj turning face, and Alicia Fox for next Divas Champ!

    • kewlkatz

I think the biggest issue of Natalya’s character is how corny and lame she is, it even shows in her movement and selling in the ring sometimes (same with Victoria/Tara’s selling). I like people like that in real life, but in wrestling it doesn’t really work imo.

      • Angelica Marie MoNae

That makes absolutely no sense. You can tell how corny and lame she is by her movement? That’s retarded….

        • kewlkatz

yes, I can practically feel the corn as she runs around the ring. And i distinctly recall this one time that Natalya was holding her heart like she had just watched the Titanic when she should’ve been selling a move

    • Benjamin D

Being in Total Divas always ruined any of her likeability. She came off as catty and whiny.

  • CrazyGirlAJ (#ChickBusters)

Good match.Sasha paying tribute to AJ with that move LOL.THE Paige Turner looks hurtful these last two weeks.

    • Brandon Christopher

Sasha sold it like a pro!

  • Brandon

Ok I think wwe has nattie in nxt to work on her mic work. But why is she challenging for the nxt title lmao?

I love this combo of Sasha and summer. Sasha’s slaps were funny and I love seeing paige face her. I hope we get a clear direction of who will face paige. I think emma will be the one to beat her and paige will come up to the main roster after her title reign like big e

    • CrazyGirlAJ (#ChickBusters)

Natayla facing Paige for title and maybe winning is maybe not a bad thing. The more career highlights the better :).

    • Benjamin D

Her mic work is still terrible, it doesn’t help when she’s working with Emma, who’s pretty terrible on the mic too. There’s been no progression on Emma’s character, now all of her backstage segment has become annoying to watch.

      • Angelica Marie MoNae

        Well i loved the segment.

        • Benjamin D

And that’s cool. I know we all have different tastes and different opinions. As long as you get entertainment out of it, that’s all it matters.

  • CrazyGirlAJ (#ChickBusters)

WWE should have other Divas or ALL divas appear on NXT IN their locker room and have rookies but no games.

  • Brandon Christopher

Soooooo Sasha ‘Pretty Extentions’ Banks, came out of no where am just impressed. I actually bought her as a heel. I don’t think she is ready to branch off from Summer, which is sad, because Summer clearly outshines her. However, facing off against Paige was great booking for Sasha.

Emma and Natalya were pretty damn funny, but why is Natalya challenging for the NXT Women’s Title? That sounds pretty random and if she loses…well that’ll just solidify in my mind that Natalya will never be anything but the ass end of a championship conversation, which is sad.

    • Angelica Marie MoNae

Nattie faced page for the nxt women’s title last week or the week before and lost. You are behind lol. It was one of the best matches ever and it was only to build page but it came at a terrible time airing right before her divas title match.

  • MrFoxana

Dana Brooke and Sasha Banks! The New BFF’s

    • Benjamin D

      Stop it.

      • MrFoxana

        Stop What.? Hmm?

        • Benjamin D

We know Mercedes can go, she’s proven herself working in the indies for years. But this Ashley chick never wrestled before, who knows if the WWE will even keep her around. There’s way too many girls at the performance center right now, the WWE will only keep maybe 8 of them.

          • MrFoxana

I Personally think Ashley will stay, knowing WWE, they love their blondes right :’)

          • Benjamin D

All I’m saying is don’t get your hopes up just yet. She just started training and it’s still a long ways to go to just make it to NXT TV.

          • MrFoxana

            Yeh that’s true, we’ll see won’t we.

  • Reyn

02:20- Did I hear Sasha right? “That’s right bitch!”
Loving Sasha and her “Don’t touch my HAIR!” girl bye, you probably meant extentions! As for the segment, I think Natalya is struggling too much. Imagine yourselves portraiting the Veteran Face character…

  • Lily

Didn’t the exact same segment between Emma and Natalya happen with Paige and Natalya?

  • Lily

That was a really good 4 minute match lol.

  • Brandon

I wanted aj to lose to paige. But I think maybe losing to a total diva would be better so aj can recruit some nxt divas (like paige) and battle the reality stars. Eventually aj or paige could win the belt and fued with eachother

    • Benjamin D

And I want AJ to team up with Paige and beat the Ascension for the NXT tag team titles, those 2 meat heads are so boring.

  • AdrianRay

    Ratchet? Okie dokie…
