Update details on Mae Young Classic release format and finale

As it was previously reported, the WWE are set to begin tapings for their Mae Young Classic tournament on July 13th and 14th at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida with a special live finale taking place at the end of summer.

According to a new report from PWInsider, the WWE will be hosting a special a preview to the Mae Young Classic via the WWE Network on Sunday August 20th. The report adds that the first round of the tournament will be released via Video on Demand in the final week of August for fans to binge watch each episode. From there, the second round of the tournament will be able during the first week of September with current plans of a special live finale taking place on Tuesday, September 12th.

The initial plans were to release the filmed episodes during the week of Summerslam and NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn but have since changed in an attempt to prevent the tournament from being overshadowed by everything else WWE had scheduled for that week.

The 32 women tournament will follow a similar format to that of last year’s Cruiserweight Classic with a focus on the international talents from 17 countries. Current talent participants are already going through the traditional background checks that take place before WWE offers deals as well.

WWE has already locked in a number of talents for the tournament.

What are your thoughts on the the tournament’s new release format? Who do you think will participate in the tournament? Let us know in the comments below!
