Before they Were Stars: Ruby Riott

Ruby Riott made her in-ring debut on SmackDown Live this week and quickly got people’s attention with her unique looks and style.  Before joining WWE, Ruby (then known as Heidi Lovelace) was refining her skills and impressing fans on the independent circuit around the world.

In the Chicago market, Heidi was most notably known as the lovable workhorse in promotions such as AAW and Freelance Wrestling. Before debuting in NXT, she was a staple in AAW’s Women’s division wrestling the likes of Kimber Lee (Abbey Laith), Jessica Havok and Candice LeRae on a regular basis. At most AAW shows you can find a banner of Heidi hanging amongst the other AAW greats being presented as one of their legends.

Fans were able to connect with the attributes that made her different from other women’s wrestlers in the area and accepted her as a renegade babyface that would give the crowd 100% effort every time she stepped into the squared circle.

Heidi’s home promotion, Chikara Pro Wrestling recently compiled a playlist of her earlier matches.  We thought it was worth watching and thought you would enjoy it too.

What are your thoughts on Ruby Riott? Does she have what it takes to become a mega-star in WWE? Sound off in the comments.
