Five potential WWE women’s tag teams

After months of rumors, speculation, and teases, WWE finally announced the Women’s Tag Team Championship is coming in 2019.

It will mark their return since WWE retired the original belts in 1989. The move has seemingly been in the works since they released an article supporting it back in 2012. This couldn’t have come at a better time. The women’s division is larger, more diverse, and more talented than it’s ever been.

There is a demand for mid-card titles to highlight women who don’t get the chance to compete for either of the Women’s Championships. Hopefully, this is a chance for more concurrent storylines for women, which should make it easier to build-up lesser-known stars to push later.

There’s so much we still don’t know, but that’s part of the excitement. No one knows how the new champions will be decided yet. There will possibly be a tournament. If there is, it’s safe to assume there will an announcement before WrestleMania.

There’s still no news on whether there will be two sets of tag titles for each brand like the men. This could even be a way to test a championship that isn’t exclusive to either brand. Of course, the biggest question is who will compete for them and who should be the inaugural champions.

There are a handful of good choices. The titles feels like they were made for the IIconics. The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection, Team Fire N’ Desire, or the Riott Squad, are all good contenders, as well.

These established pairings will help WWE get the women’s tag division off the ground, but for it to continue to grow they will need to prove there are enough women to compete. So, for the sake of this list we will leave out established factions.

Here are five other potential women’s tag teams that could make the division more interesting.
