Jordynne Grace wins Progress Women’s Championship

Jordynne Grace made good on her statement at Progress Chapter 76: Hello Wembley back in September by beating Jinny for the Progress Women’s Championship in Progress Wrestling’s final show of 2018, Progress Unboxing. This is the culmination of a meteoric rise that has seen the indie darling make statement after statement in recent months in her pursuit of the belt.

After wrestling for Progress’s Coast to Coast Tour, Grace made her Chapter debut at Chapter 79 where she beat Isla Dawn and put an end to The White Witch’s pursuit of the number one contender spot with a devastating bear hug. She followed up that outing with a star-making win over the beloved Toni Storm at Progress’s Chapter 81: Pour Some Progress on Me.

Jinny had been quiet on the title front since her last defense at Hello Wembley, in favor of duking it out with her former House of Couture cohorts Nina Samuels and Charlie Morgan.

Now the title has officially changed hands making Grace just the third women’s champion in Progress’s history. So, what’s next for the title? With Jinny heavily invested in NXT UK, this looks like a passing of the torch of sorts. A chance for Jinny to bow out of the spotlight of the division and let the new blood take over.

There are plenty of talented women in the Progress women’s division but one Millie McKenzie may be on the shortlist of top contenders. McKenzie was a part of the triple threat title match at Wembley where Grace made her grand entrance. She was also scheduled to be the third participant in Grace’s match with Dawn before bowing out due to injury. So, there is a strong chance that should she be ready, we could be seeing Grace and McKenzie soon.

Whatever comes next, Grace has the title now and it’s open season for the Progress women’s division.
