WOW founders discuss details before AXS-TV premiere

Recently, Diva Dirt’s Kristen Ashly got a chance to take part in a conference call and Q&A with Women of Wrestling (WOW) founders Jeanie Buss and David McLane, as well as AXS-TV Fights CEO Andrew Simon.

Ahead of their debut episode on AXS-TV, Ashly asked the executives several questions regarding WOW, and their upcoming season.

When WOW first debuted, early in the 2000s, their audience consisted of mostly the male adult kind, generating 25 percent higher ratings than their secondary audiences of young women and teens. All three executives were asked how they intended to cater to a female audience, with the women’s evolution swiftly picking up steam. Notably, Buss stated, “We want everybody to be apart of the audience.”

What has been the hot talking point of WOW’s new debut, is the appearance of Tessa Blanchard on their roster. Diva Dirt asked David McLane if there would be any more talent sharing in the future.

WOW boasts a shocking 35-women roster, with only one active championship. David McLane was asked if he had plans on resurrecting the tag team titles, or if there would be the addition of any new titles.

Readers would recognize Buss most for her work as the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. Buss got the “wrestling bug” after she saw a shocking lack of television time and opportunity for women in sports. Billie Jean King, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman were all her inspirations for founding WOW with McLane, where they label their women wrestlers “Superheroes”.

McLane first got his feet wet in the wrestling industry at the age of 13, and has been a strong supporter of women’s wrestling, ever since. He’s most notably the founder of GLOW, and continues to help evolve women’s wrestling.

The premiere of WOW on AXS-TV is slated to air Friday at 9 p.m. EST, as part of their Friday Night Fights lineup. The debut episode will feature Tessa Blanchard’s debut, as well as the bout between WOW Champion Santana Garrett and Jungle Grrrl.

Return to Diva Dirt for more exclusives on WOW, including two interviews with WOW talent.
