All Elite Wrestling’s President Tony Khan looks to have big plans when it comes to women’s wrestling.
On The Steve Austin Show podcast, Khan revealed that there are plans for a Women’s Tag Team Championship. The news comes along with a Women’s Championship as well.
While Khan confirmed AEW’s plans for the women’s division, he did not specify when either of the Championships will make their debut.
AEW is still in its infancy, however, that doesn’t mean that they don’t have to strike the iron while it’s hot. WWE revived its Women’s Tag Team Championships earlier this year at the Elimination Chamber PPV event. Either way, the Tag Team Championships brings forth more opportunities for the Women’s Division, making it a win-win situation.
Women’s wrestling continues to gain steam and popularity, which AEW has taken notice. In addition, talent such as Dr. Britt Baker will help the Women’s Division along with CBO Brandi Rhodes. Rhodes stated AEW’s intention in their first press rally, adding that the women would get equal pay to their men counterparts.
The process will take some time as AEW continues to build its roster and further establishes their rightful place as a legit wrestling promotion. The AEW women’s division will also need time to grow, as fans are being introduced to new faces and getting reacquainted with former Superstars. There looks to be a feud growing between Awesome Kong and Nyla Rose, which is a good start.
If the two women’s matches at Double or Nothing is anything to go by, then the AEW Women’s Division has definite promise. Again, with women’s wrestling at the height of its popularity it is everything for the taking when it comes to that. Every competitor has something to prove and has something to stand for as AEW transforms pro wrestling.
