Intergender wrestling isn’t in the cards for AEW

AEW put on their second show this past weekend from Daytona Beach, Fla. The promotions President, Tony Khan, answered several media questions after the event concluded. The topic of intergender wrestling taking place for AEW’s talent was brought up.

Khan states that you will probably not see these types of matches wind up in AEW. He cited a moment from the All In pay-per-view last year as a reason.

“Probably won’t see it in AEW. If there was one thing—how many of you guys were at All In? In the battle royal, anybody remember when Jordynne Grace got hit in the face? That was probably the thing I didn’t like about All In.”

He is referring to when Grace participated in the Over Budget Battle Royal. She was the only female participant in that match.

    He adds the following:

“I don’t think that’s cool. I’m really against domestic abuse, and I’m not saying that is, but it’s a really complex question that I knew it would come up sooner or later. But it’s probably not what we’re gonna do, we’re gonna focus on a men’s division: singles and tag, and a women’s division: singles and tag. Mixed matches, we’re probably not gonna focus on them.”

This topic is always a controversial one that garners many responses. The independent scene is usually where genders are allowed to clash. For AEW much like WWE, it seems like this will not be a possibility.
