The Royal Rumble pay-per-view doesn’t have a good history when it comes to the women. The past few years since the women’s revolution has taken place it has become better. Looking back on past Royal Rumble events, many of them didn’t even have a women’s match on the card. In 2006 however, there was Ashley vs. Mickie James.
Trish Stratus was the guest referee in this match during a time when James’ love for her burned its brightest. In fact, she confessed her love for Stratus right before the match. Ashley was the protégé of Stratus and she learned her
James knowing this questioned whether or not Stratus was going to call the match down the middle or perhaps favor her over Ashley. Ashley was tormented for weeks prior by James who didn’t take lightly of being called “crazy.”
In the end, Stratus would be forced to count to three and call James the winner.
