Mickie James has made one thing clear since returning from injury, and that is she wants to finally win her seventh women’s title. The six-time women’s champion has had minimal chances to become champion since returning to the company at the end of 2016. She faced Asuka for the NXT Women’s Title in her return match in 2016, but Asuka’s undefeated streak at that time remained intact. Now we come full circle.
It was announced on tonight’s RAW that James will get her title match against The Empress on next week’s show. This was mentioned right before the tag team match tonight that had Asuka team with James as they faced Lana and Natalya.
There was high tension between Asuka and James. The two would clearly show that they rather work alone as they take advantage of the moments to tag themselves in. The two would pick up the win but not the way that James would have liked.
James had plans of going up top to put away Lana. Asuka tagged herself in after being originally knocked off the ring apron. The champion would then apply the Asuka Lock on Lana as James took out Natalya with a Mick Kick. Asuka picked up the submission victory.
With the Clash of Champions pay-per-view just a few weeks away, who will be the RAW Women’s Champion heading into that event?
