The term “underutilized” tends to be tossed around a lot when the talk is about those that have star power but aren’t being utilized as such. This always tends to be a vicious cycle and, unfortunately for some, they never get that ultimate opportunity to prove what they can do. This could be for any number of reasons.
According to WrestleVotes, there was recently a request for a group of writers to list who they felt were underutilized and if given the chance, could shine. They explain that although the list ranges wide, the two women that were included in almost all of the lists were Carmella and Peyton Royce.
Of course, Carmella is currently being highlighted as the number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s Title. She was in the main event on last week’s SmackDown and will be facing Sasha Banks this Sunday at TLC.
Prior to this though, she was kept off television (besides her vignettes) since April. She had a glimpse of the spotlight earlier this year where she had a memorable match against Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Title. That feud was short-lived.
As for Peyton Royce, it has been rumored before that Vince McMahon thought highly of her but as a singles competitor. The IIconics broke up earlier this year and that was a possible sign that Royce was about to receive a push.
Besides one non-title match with Asuka and eliminating Bayley at Survivor Series, there hasn’t been much momentum forward for her. She is currently in a random and confusing tag team with Lacey Evans where both are barely seen on a weekly basis.
