In addition to Ice Ribbon wrestlers Tsukasa Fujimoto and Makoto, CHIKARA has announced that another joshi wrestler – this time veteran Mima Shimoda – will be appearing on their “CHIKARASaurus Rex 2: King Of Sequel” events on July 30th and 31st.
While we’re busy getting ready for our impending Mid-West excursion next week, we haven’t lost sight of next month’s “CHIKARASaurus Rex 2: King Of Sequel” events in Reading in Philadelphia! We already have the legendary British imports Johnny Saint & Johnny Kidd on board, as well as Tsukasa Fujimoto & Makoto of Japan’s burgeoning Ice Ribbon promotion. Today, we’re thrilled to add joshi veteran Mima Shimoda to the mix, coming to us via CMLL in Mexico! Mima is one of the most-respected tag wrestlers in Joshi history, as well as an accomplished singles wrestler in her own right. She began her career in 1987 alongside our good friend Manami Toyota in AJW, even teaming together as “The Tokyo Sweethearts” in their formative years! Now, Mima will enter into her 24th year of competition as part of “CHIKARASaurus Rex 2: King Of Sequel” in Reading & Philly! Get ready!
For those who don’t know, Mima was originally a part of AJW’s 1987 dojo trainees. Her debut match was against Etsuko Mita (who would go on to become Mima’s main partner in crime!) on August 5th, 1987 at the now legendary at Korakuen Hall. As stated in CHIKARA’s press release, Mima Shimoda is well-known as a tag team wrestler. Etsuko Mita was her main partner, but she also formed a team with fellow trainee Manami Toyota to become “The Sweethearts”, as well as a group with Mita and Akira Hokuto as “Las Cachorras Orientoles”.
