News in Brief: JR Comments on Kharma in Rumble, SHIMMER Tag Title Match in Japan, FWE Women’s Title & More

Diva Dirt is back with another fix of news, notes and tidbits in the world of women’s wrestling. Check it out below:

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has commented on Kharma‘s return. Says Ross of the Diva:

Great to see Kharma return. That one was a big surprise for me. I love her work and am pleased to see her back. She’s an impact player and not a ‘Diva’ in the stereotypical sense. Instead Kharma is a wrestling attraction meaning that she has more longevity and will sell more tickets that being more about sizzle than steak.

He also clarifies a story that has been going around for awhile (in which he apparently told her that she wasn’t Diva material):

When we first met many, many years ago, WWE was looking for Playboy covergirls and not wrestling attractions which is why I told her, honestly BTW, that she wasn’t a ‘Diva’ but she was/is a wrestler and I love that about her.

It’s good to see that Kharma has some highly-regarded names backing her. Judging by the reactions she’s received ever since her debut last year, we think she’ll go far in her time with the WWE. She has a lot to bring to the table.

Congratulations go out to April Davids, who won the FutureShock Women’s title from The Artiste Formerly Known as Becky James on January 29 in Stockport, England. It’s a big win for Davids, who will be challenging Jenny Sjodin for the Pro Wrestling: EVE title next weekend at XWA‘s ‘Goldrush’ event.

The SHIMMER Tag Team Championships will be defended in Japan February 22nd. The match, to be held at the Shin-Kiba 1st Ring in Shinkiba at the “Joshi4Hope III” event, will pit champions Ayumi Kurihara and Ayako Hamada against former title holders Hiroyo Matsumoto and Misaki Ohata.

Kellie Skater is also announced as teaming up with Tomoka Nakagawa against Yumi Ohka and a mystery partner.

In other SHIMMER related news, Dave Prazak says that six women will be appearing on the AAW show in Berwyn, IL the night before SHIMMER tapes volumes 45-48 on March 17 and 18. Sara Del Rey is one of the names confirmed thus far.

It has been announced today that Kellie Skater will be taking on Kira of the Sherbrooke Connexion at the NCW Femmes Fatales VIII show on March 10 in Montreal.

This will be Skater’s third visit to Canada and she is aiming for her first victory, having previously wrestled both Sweet Cherrie and Courtney Rush and lost. She will also be coming straight from a tour of Japan, where she has been training, to Montreal.

This is the first singles match of Kira’s in Femmes Fatales, after all the success she has enjoyed as one half of the Sherbrooke Connexion with Loue.

Former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis is scheduled to make her in-ring return – her first match in over two years, and her first since her WWE release in 2010 – on February 25th for FWE in a match against TNA’s Tara but now the match stakes have now been raised ever-so-slightly. Brooke Tessmacher vs. Winter will also be taking place that evening, and the four women will now be competing in a one-night tournament for the FWE Women’s Championship. The show will also take place on Maria’s 30th birthday.

One would think that with the other girls’ TNA commitments and the company’s notoriously strict rules regarding independent bookings, Maria would be first in line to win the tournament, but you can never say never in this business and one of the TNA Knockouts could end up becoming FWE Women’s Champion. After all, Winter did win the WILD World Championship last August.

It’s everyone’s favourite time of year – awards season! Stacy Keibler was looking as lovely as ever at the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 29 in Los Angeles. The “Weapon of Mass Seduction” rocked a black lace Marchesa dress and paired it with Jimmy Choo shoes, Palladium and Jacob and Co. jewelry and a Judith Leiber clutch.

We can’t wait to see what Stacy wears to the Oscars on February 26!

That’s the news for now. Which tidbits have got you talking? Tell us in the comments…
