WWE Superstars Redux (March 15th, 2012): Kelly Brings the Fight, But Beth Proves Why She Will be Divas Champion Forever

Holla everybody, and let me welcome you to the riveting, gripping recap that we know as the Superstars Redux. Last week, we were not granted any Diva appearances on the show, but that has all changed this week, for we have received a main event bout between Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix and plucky babyface, Kelly Kelly! This is non-title, but will certainly prove to be a treat as these two head into WrestleMania for their big tag team match alongside Eve Torres and Maria Menounos respectively. Will Kelly show us what she did last year in that she can topple the mighty Glamazon? Or will Beth simply make another pit stop in her “Ding. Glam Slam. Ding.” Tour? All the answers to these questions will be revealed when you scroll on down!

We spot a graphic of the two ladies to promote the match as being tonight’s main event, a feat that now has been accomplished twice by the Divas this week if you also include NXT. Out to the ring from there we go, as HOLLA HOLLA HOLLA (the song, not Teddy Long) hits the sound system and out walks Kelly Kelly looking as top notch as ever in some blue and gold gear. She poses for the screaming fans before stepping inside the ring and climbing onto the turnbuckle as we head to a break. After a brief WrestleMania countdown shows, back in the ring we go to see Kelly smiling and pointing to the fans in attendance.

Suddenly, K2 is cut off by the statuesque music (can music really be statuesque?!) of Beth Phoenix! Beth throws the title up in the air three times to promote herself as being Divas Champion forever, and after all this time with the belt who can blame her? She walks down the ramp teasing the fans, as Scott Stanford CONTINUES to taunt us by adding fuel to the “Beth/Natalya” fire that we are all just waiting to see explode. The bell sounds, as Kelly and Beth mess with each other inside the ring. The crowd gets behind K2, as they lock up and Phoenix takes control by slamming Kelly down.

She teases the blonde bombshell, before lifting Kelly onto her shoulders and charging for the nearest turnbuckle. K2 manages to slip out the back and send Beth into it herself, before slamming her face into the padding over and over! Kelly transitions into kicks, then backing up and scoring with a handspring splash! She topples our Glamazon by shaking her bottom in Beth’s facial area with a move we identify as the stinkface, continuing it up with a nice leg choke over the ropes. Kelly ascends to the top rope and leaps off with a Thesz Press before being shoved off by the Glamazon.

From there, Phoenix connects with a few kicks, but Kelly hits a hurricanrana for a two count. Beth slides towards the outside and manages to snap K2’s head off the ropes. She hits an elbow drop for another near fall, then proceeding to lock in a nasty looking arm submission. K2 tries to fight out, eventually garnering a “Kelly” chant, but our Divas Champion is relentless in this attack and slams her down by the hair for a close call. Beth proceeds to rake Kelly’s eyes WHILE choking her in the ropes at the same time as she then runs off the opposing side of the ring and leaps onto K2’s back for a two count.

Beth tosses Kelly into the corner, but K2 ducks a punch attempt and rolls Beth up for a two count! Phoenix then drops Kelly with a clothesline and musters up another near fall. Beth also locks in a dragon sleeper before Kelly fights out of it and hits the whirlybird headscissors takedown to send Beth face first into the corner. A bulldog follows up for a near fall, as our resilient challenger tries to prove herself here tonight. Phoenix snaps K2 off the ropes and goes for the Glam Slam, but Kelly counters into a roll up! Only a nearfall though, as Beth blasts her in the face, poses, and ultimately connects with the Glam Slam in true Pin-Up Strong fashion! One… two… three — Beth wins! Certainly not a “Ding. Glam Slam. Ding,” but nonetheless, strike up another check mark in the Glamazon’s win column.

Thoughts: An enjoyable bout from Beth and Kelly, and certainly much longer than most Divas matches get. I thought Kelly looked good against Beth, and overall, the two did well together. The only problem I have with matches on Superstars is that they just happen to happen. There’s no reason behind it so it’s hard for me to really get into them. Maybe it’s just because I’ve grown more accustomed to recapping NXT where the storylines are so heavily present, but I get no connection to matches on Superstars anymore. They’re never bad by any means and tonight was a great showing from Beth and Kelly, but I wish they would incorporate maybe some backstage interviews or angles into the show as they used to on Sunday Night Heat so that the matches just have a little something special about them.

I honestly love this match so far. It was a good back n forth action. I think the Divas did so well wen it comes to having long matches! What made this match was good was the sick offences as well as the crowd involvement. I also think the right Diva won (Beth Phoenix) to show her dominance for WrestleMania. I really hope we see Eve compete again next week soon!!! Kelly looked great too! Love her ring gear <3 It wasnt the best match ever between those two but it was a treat to us since we kept getting short matches as of 2012. Hpe after WM28, we get better feuds! #LAYLAMUSTSAVEUS

Match Of The Week For Me ! Kelly did amazing her greatest opponent will always be Beth she brings out the best in her. I liked the end where kelly rolled up from the glamslam…4.5/5 IMO..

P.S Kelly needs to wear more attires like this one get rid of them nasty girl im still a underdog attires. Also the attidude Kelly showed here is what she should be doing each week. Get rid of the stink face

100% agree with everything u said!!!! This was a great ring gear for Kelly n her chemistry with Beth is so epic no doubt!!!

      • http://twitter.com/cookiewwediva Cookie

        agree.

For some wierd, unexplainable reason, I seem to be getting into kelly lately, but I want to say something.

I’ve come to the conclusion that kelly does better when she’s given time. She brings out those moves that are in her arsenal, but I guess she doesnt use them because she just isn’t given more than 1 minute to compete each week. I know this match was mainly good because of beth, but kelly does a very decent job in the ring when shes given time.

I feel like she doesn’t feel rushed. Thats why she usually performs better during PPV’s, even agaisnt the bellas. This is why people are always saying she brings it to the PPV’s but never to the weekly shows, maybe is the time limits ? probably.

But anyways, Kelly & Beth’s chemistry is awesome. Its just there and I love it! Beth definetly brings out the best in kelly. Overall the match was pretty good. Im gonna rate it & give it a 4. I liked it .

Also, kelly’s attire = beautiful lady.

OMG U dont knw how much I agree with u in so many ways!!! Cnt wait 4 Mania’! Eve will shine! x

    • https://twitter.com/#!/StephMCK2 StephMC

I also agree with the comment u gave on the timing because the Divas would normally do well wen the long time is given but wen it is cut short due to guys, we barely see any action. Its like u cannot to blink, or u’ll miss everything! But this match was so amazing to watch!!!

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/bxshadow23?feature=mhum EveLover

Yup. Thats the main reason why divas are always put down. Its not their ring skills. All of them could actually put a decent-great match actually. Everytime I see them perform an awesome match at superstars or at a ppv, then I see them perform not as good on raw/sd ,you come to the conclusion that they’re being rushed.

  • Misaki Ohata Fan

This match was somewhat enjoyable for me thanks to both parties. The match was given quite a bit of time, it was tense and back and forth! I like that on Superstars they actually refer to past events e.g. Kelly and Beth were great friends. Small things like that add to the match. I also liked that the Glam Slam was reversed but Kelly didn’t score the rollup because we usually see wins when finishers are reversed. It’s good to see a match like this because on Raw we often get the same thing – heel dominates, face reverses something and goes into a sequence and does her finisher. If the face wins then she pins (if tag her partner attacks the other heel). If the heel wins then they catch the face by suprise (if tag match the illegal heel breaks up the faces pin, the illegal face attacks the illegal heel whilst the legal face is distracted, the legal heel takes advantage.

  • Mr_Adone

Loved it. I will admit that I hated kelly at first but she does have ring skills. While not the best, she has them, and she is really good at the things she does. I as well loved this attire on kelly. I like better on smackdown though but thats because she had her hair straight and was killing it that night lol.
But yeah these two brouht a good match. And as EveLover said, kelly does so much better when she is giving time. Thats with all the divas. Theirs no rush. I hope that at mania these girls get enough time. They really could pull off a really good match if the time limit is not a problem, and put some of those nay sayers wrong.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/madslam200959 madslam2009

Kelly was on point tonight. Her and Beth have great chemistry and that submission by Beth was awesome. I think K2 is great in longer matches when she shows off her extensive moveset like she did tonight.

  • Jhonmarco

Good match by Kelly, best I’ve seen her in a while. Let me just say I LOVED her attire. It was flawless. I wouldn’t mind seeing this Kelly more often. And speaking of attire when is Beth switching hers? Because these glamskirts are ugly. I prefered the glamsuits a lot more, but I guess she needed something new with the heel turn, but good god that gear looks bad.

    • mariah.

      Glamskirt needs to go.

      • Jhonmarco

That’s putting it lightly. It needs to be burnt & have it’s proper funeral, along with Melina’s Summerslam 2010 gear.

        • mariah.

It doesn’t even deserve that much LOL.

        • Jhonmarco

Lmao! Ugh just trying to be proper about these things! :p

  • AdrianRay

    2/5 :)

  • Teri

It’s matches like this that make it clear that Kelly has such a potential to be a great in-ring competitor. On the other hand, it’s matches like this that prove that having a “whirlybird” headscissors or a stinkface in your moveset… and barely hitting the ropes (enough to actually give you any momentum at all) when youre running them can really take a lot away from how people perceive you as a credible competitor.

I just want to shake this girl and force her to break through. It’s such a shame that she’s holding back.

    • mariah.

Sometimes I feel like it’s all in her head…. like she’s telling herself she’ll never be great, so she’s better off coasting at the level she’s at.

  • DarknessRuler

Good match except for the ending. Bad Selling and then No Sell after?

    • ballplayer10123

Kelly’s lack of selling is an embarrassment. Alicia’s sold the glamslam like a champ last week. How difficult is it for Kelly to pretend to be KO’d for 10-20 seconds? She undersells pretty much most finishers she takes. She did better sell jobs for Victoria and Layla back on ECW like 3-4 years ago.

      • shameronstar

I bet if Kelly took the implant buster it would look good because Kharma would probably just break Kelly through the ring!

  • jacknife2058

Is Beth channeling her inner Pinkie Pie?

    Foreveeeerrrrr! O.o

  • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

Decent match…kelly didn’t do anything new but what she did do besides the stink face & whirly head scissor was done right & looked effective….
i also like that beth went more of a submission style in this match its something different for her..one spot i didnt like was kellys poor selling of the glam-slam that was the weakest looking glam-slam ever…

  • http://twitter.com/sulkingbeauty adifferentsame

I think Kelly held her own here and looked markedly more convincing against an imposing competitor than she ever has. If she could she just trim the silly spots out of her moveset it would provide her with twicefold more credibility as a wrestler.

Props to Beth too, however. Call her a ring general if you want, but lately she’s managed to imbue her personality into her matches and I like how she tries to play the crowd in putting over her opponents. I’m with everyone on altering the ring gear, though.

  • shameronstar

I can’t wait to see Kelly Kelly vs Kharma because that will certainly be entertaining HEHEHE!

  • RayneWoman

Nice match. Good showing from both of the ladies. But I have a few complains:
-Kelly needs to get rid of her stinkface. IMMEDIATELY!! She is good, but I will not take her seriously as a competitor if she keeps on doing these kinds of moves.
-Beth is a pretty bad seller. She was wayy to overboard with her selling.
    – Kelly’s punches looked very weak. She didn’t put any power in it. Take a closer look after she does her Lou Threz. Her punches looked always weak.
    -Kelly’s screaming.
Other than that, good match. Not first class like their other matches, but good.

    • Jhonmarco

Besides the rope running, her weak ass punches are easily her biggest flaw. I’m not asking for the girl to hurt someone in there, but I don’t think those forearms would hurt a care bear.

      • shameronstar

For some reason her punches look more effective when she has cat fights.

    • shameronstar

It’s funny you say that because I usually hear complimentary things about Beth’s selling.

  • http://www.twitter.com/Diva_Fan_4_Life DivaFan4Life

I really loved this match. Especially because they got more time rather than 30 seocnds-2 minute matches. It was back and forth and kelly was using more of her moveset as well! :)
I hope when kharma returns that the divas get more respect from vince and get more tv time because they deserve it.

  • redsandman99

I enjoyed this match. Beth and Kelly have pretty good chemistry together so when they’re given some time like they were here they put on good bouts. I do agree with the thought of Kelly getting rid of her stinkface–the crowd may get into it but it takes away from her credibility and the only people that actually like it are guys who think that kind of thing is sexy (how and why that is I have no idea). Also agree with Kelly’s punches looking way too weak. They just end up looking ridiculous and then her opponent ends up looking ridiculous having to sell them.

  • Goodvibes

I love Kelly but she’s really not progressed AT ALL in the ring, her selling is terrible and she literally falls into every bump, making Beth look uber weak. Decent outing though, and definitely great to see the girls get some good length for once. But just a shame that Kelly refuses to improve, because lets face it, she would if she wanted to.

  • http://youtube.com/stephenpeppard stephenpwwe

Good match. Kelly really needs to learn how to sell the Glam Slam though.

  • http://xlittlemissobsessive.tumblr.com/ kellytrishfan

Kelly isn’t the greatest compeitor to step in the ring, there are always of course things about her in the ring to nitpick at or moves she can rid of or crisp at. But she’s neither the worst ring competitor there ever was, or out of the present bunch of Divas, today. I think this match proved that Kelly can put on and produce a good match, though. Was it perfect? No. Was it horrible? No. It was a great match, though. <3 I'll never understand the overly dramatic comments some people make about getting rid of Kelly, when there are plenty of other Divas who have their flaws, botches their moves and aren't perfect. Kelly like every other Diva, has potential. She can do well with given the right amount of time. I'll never understand what people expect out a Diva in a one minute rushed match? Both girls looked way more comfortable in this match than I ever seen them look in Raw match in awhile.

Oh and beyond all that, just have to say Kelly looked hawt <3

  • Shan

I might be the only one but I was not impressed by this match. Both girls were just slow. Running, implementing moves, I knew what was coming before it even happened. You could tell Beth’s kicks were fake and Kelly….well I was never a fan and this doesn’t change it.

I guess it was a solid outing but I fell asleep with my eyes open so I can’t tell.

    • hado

      OMG, I agree, lol.

  • hado

Am I the only one that thought this match was beyond boring? I didn’t find this match entertaining whatsoever and I thought since their previous bouts which were all good, this was a major let down. Kelly actually did look good in this match but it was Beth who was boring for me. I get it, they are trying to make Beth look strong, but surely there is anyway to make her look strong rather then doing these boring old submissions moves that she always seems to use in a match. Switch it up girl!

    Match gets a – 1.5/5 for me.

  • JJ

Ok match, kinda dragged for a while but ok over all! I am always impressed with how well Kelly does when she is in the ring with Beth. I think Beth really does bring out the best in Kelly when they have matches with one another. Kelly really does need to practice her punches though to where they look more believable. when she did that thesz press off the top rope and started punching Beth her punches looked so weak lol

  • JJ

*Sigh* Beth is so good. I really want her and Natalya to get a 10 minute match somewhere down the line. PPV ideally (Wrestlemania would be dream-come-true worthy) but I’d be happy enough with a Superstars match. A chance for two women who constantly drag good matches out of lesser opponents, instead getting a chance to really shine.

Beth really brings the best out of Kelly, as shown here once again. While I think Kelly has a place on the roster, it’s become really clear this past year that it’s not as the star. She’s in her 6th year in the business now! 6th!!! That’s crazy. Plain and simple, she should be better than this. The annoying thing is, there have been glimpses over the years of everything it takes to be a good wrestler…but it’s just never all clicked. I think it’s too late for her now. This is how they should use her: the spunky jobber.

There are two women on the roster who have all the tools to be stars in the divas division; they could (if you can forgive the cliche) be the next Trish and Lita. If the WWE really get behind them, like they have with Kelly, they could get much, much better results. It’s already happening with one of them now, they just need to jumpstart the other.

I’m talking about AJ and Naomi, of course.

A future Superstars match I’d really like to see is Alicia vs Beth. Alicia really shines when given more time, and I’d love to see what she and Beth could achieve.

Match rating: 2.5 out of 5

    • JJ

Well said JJ, Once I again I agree with everything you have said! Great minds and names think alike! LOL

  • Bethinho

Beth is one of the best “sellers” in all WWE,she always brings the best in her opponents,so i don´t quite understand the critics on Beth´s selling.
    anyway,good match,with basic stuff.
besides a new attire,Beth needs an alternative finisher, maybe a submission one,to keep her endings a little more unpredictable and bc she won´t GS Kharma…..
