Today in History: Kane Kidnaps Lita

On this day in history:

May 3rd, 2004 | In the midst of a Highlight Reel interview with Matt Hardy, Lita appeared on the Titan Tron to tell him that she never loved him and that she had found someone else. In the midst of her confession she broke down, screaming and telling him that she was tied up in the basement. Kane appeared on screen with a smile that probably earned him that role in See No Evil. Matt eventually rescued Lita and she told him that Kane hadn’t touched her. A happy(ish) ending? Not a chance. We all know where this story went, and Lita’s kidnapping was only the beginning.

What are your memories of this moment? Tell us in the comments!

Loved this storyline! Wish the stories told today could capture my attention like this one did.

The start of that awful saga!

  • Jhonmarco

While this storyline was awful, it did lead to the best feud in WWE Diva history.

    SO FUCKING SWEET MEMORIES!!!!

    GOD, TURN BACK TIME!!

I wasn’t a fan of this storyline but lita could be a saw movie with her acting…

I have mixed feelings about these “Today in History” threads. On one hand, I am excited to see great Diva matches/story lines of years past. On the other hand, it reminds me on a daily basis about how great the Diva story lines and matches used to be and how crappy they are today. :o(

Well, I’ll make you even MORE depressed about the current state of things compared to then, by recounting what happened on the show for the next nine minutes… :)

You notice “International Woman” playing at the end of the above clip. Gail comes out, with Molly, for a non-title match with Women’s Champion Victoria. JR reminds us that Gail & Molly lost a tag match the previous week to Victoria & Lita. Gail grabs a mic…

Gail: “I really hope that no one’s feeling sorry for Lita.”

      Lawler: “What?!”

Gail: “Cause I’m not! As far as I’m concerned, she got exactly what she deserved!”

      Lawler: “Wow…”

Gail: “If you people would just…” She’s interrupted by “All The Things She Said,” signaling Victoria’s entrance, with JR selling his outrage at Gail’s words as only he can. :)

The match gets underway, with the commentators selling the importance of it, even though it’s non-title.

JR: “Gail Kim looking for a title opportunity somewhere down the road against Victoria. That’s every Diva’s goal, King, just like it’s Shawn Michael’s goal to become the World Champion, tonight.”

Lawler: “Everybody that steps into a WWE ring dreams of wearing the Gold. It signifies that you are THE best, whether you’re Chris Benoit, the World Heavyweight Champion, or Victoria, the Women’s Champion.”
      .
Things go back and forth, with some interference from Molly, but Victoria finally gains control, and is about to put Gail away, until Gail DEBUTS her Flying Dragon submission, which will be her signature submission finisher from then on. The Women’s Champion is forced to tap out.

So, that was 15 straight minutes, plus however long the commercial break was while Matt was looking for Lita, for the Divas.

Too bad this site wasn’t around, and videos posted immediately, then. Can you imagine what the Raw recaps would have been like?

I always hated this storyline for the main fact Lita got “pregnant” and didn’t wrestle for months after only returning less than a year before. Have to agree with Jhonmarco though, as bad as it was it lead to my favourite feud and match in WWE Diva history.

  • bxradimus

This was one of the WORST storylines with three of the worst acting-wrestlers in WWE.

    Man, this was comically bad.

I liked this storyline LOL I remember back in 2004 thinking all this was real xD

    • fragile

things were real in 2004… ;)

  • StraightEdgeGirl84

I didn’t like the preggers part because it kept my favorite diva out of action for months. Is Lita the best actress no but she did a good job imo.

Ugh… I did not like this story line. I hated that it took Lita out of the ring for months when she’d been back less than a year… I never liked Matt Hardy, either, so I wasn’t thrilled to see him involved with a story line with her again.

Be thankful for blondes from Toronto, then. First, Trish talks her way into the storyline and completely steals it out from under Matt, and the big push that went with it (This was supposed to be Matt’s big push). Then, Edge stole Lita.

At TNA, Matt was probably paranoid about Angelina Love, absolutely certain that she was plotting against him. Maybe that’s what caused him to snap. :)

Christian should have done something to Matt, for tradition’s sake. :)

Trish really did make this storyline hers, but she’s just so freaking charismatic that everything she touches turns to awesome.

I remember when this storyline came out, I had just read Lita’s book and she said she had an idea for her return storyline that had nothing to do with the women’s title and I was like “Are you freaking kidding me?! You thought this was a good idea Lita!” and genuinely thought she was high. I actually thought for years that this crap was her idea. However, Lita proved to me how awesomely awesome she was by being with Edge. That man is just so….*swoons*

Years later Eve is almost kidnapped by Kane, yeah with the whole Kharma situation the pregnant story line is just plain wrong.
