Ashley Flair’s New WWE Name is…

Ashley Fliehr Johnson, aka Ashley Flair — daughter of the legendary Ric Flair — revealed via Twitter that she has received her new ring name from WWE.

Johnson, who reported to FCW last month to begin her WWE career, will be going by the name Charlotte.

It’s not too difficult to deduce where WWE drew their inspiration for that name — Ashley’s Hall of Fame father is billed from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ashley wrote on Twitter: “Received my ring name….. CHARLOTTE, baby, CHARLOTTE!!!”

    I Don’t Like

  • DaudWWE

I would get used to it later..

  • mykel1990

  • Jake

I like it. Just wish they would give some of these girls a surname.

  • lucky1now

Even though it links her to her father I still don’t care for the name

  • LuckySeven

I’ll get used to it, but I think it is an unnecessary rename. But I think that for all the people in the WWE that are sons or daughters of big name stars or outright hall of famers.

FCW either has the laziest people, or just people who are not creative. The names are so generic. She is a FLAIR. Have her go by Ashley Flair. Way better then this name.

    • jcarcano12

King said it not allow for a son or daughter to use their fathe/mother last name. It a wrestling thing I guess?

      • Like Mike

        Ted DiBiase does? Tamina does?

        • Lovedaddio

I think because DiBiase was using that name when he was in the indies before he was signed to WWE. And Tamina while acknowledge as Superfly Jimmy Snuka’s daughter wasn’t actually billed as Tamina Snuka until earlier this year.

I don’t mind Charlotte though it is rather generic, but as long as they do not automatically promote her as Ashley Flair. I really think she should establish her own indentity and PLEASE no chops followed by .”WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!”. Just my opinion.

In a way I understand renaming of these generation superstars because I think keeping the name puts so much expectations in the fans towards them and the Flair kids have a history of not living up to the hype of their father. Still though, I’m not feeling this name.

  • DivasOfDoom94

So they Keep her but Release Sofia!! WTF, just because her last name is Flair, doesn’t mean she’s going to be a Great Wrestler! Sofia is a Great Wrestler!

    • BTylerHenderson

The girl has yet to even step into the ring, give her a chance, dang. We’re all surprised and shocked about Sofia’s release and quite frankly so are some people in WWE cuz before then she was receiving nothing but positive feedback but no need to ride Ashley (Charlotte) off before she even debuts in the ring. Sofia probably wasn’t a great wrestler when she debuted but she got better in time and I feel that Ashley will too…hopefully.

The renames are to do with copyright (and so they can’t use them on the indies if/when they leave). I do wish they’d stick with the surnames for some, but then again, a lot of these guys/girls fathers didnt have the same surnames as their fathers.

Charlotte is a good name, but she’s an example of someone who should have the surname. It’s Ric Flair!!

  • hittheropes

The hyperlink to her Twitter page is broken because she changed it. It’s now @MsCharlotteWWE

  • Flitzy

Normally I’d want them to honour generational names but I think, in the case of Flair, attaching her name to the iconic Flair line would put too much pressure on her. I don’t know how she is in the ring but I think being immediately put out there as being related to Ric Flair would make the bar far too high for her.

Let her make her own name in the business.

I think that Charlotte is a nice homage but still allows her to forge her own path.

  • SherriShepherdWWE

i think it makes sense in a way to name her after from were she is from and everything, she prob will be renamed when she makes it to the main roster and everything

  • DJ8946

They Probally Didnt Put Flair As Her Last Name Because They Are Trying To Get Ric Still But Dont Want To Have Any Ties With The Flair Name Until The WWE/TNA Lawsuit Is Settled.

  • WhalenX12

They better add Flair. Then the WWE universe would know she was a hall of famer’s daughet.

  • Rhawk

Its okay I suppose, now if they named her Charlotte Moon, now THAT would catch on! *rolls eyes*

I suppose she’ll be named Flair later on, like how Tamina now uses Snuka in her name.

  • shameronstar

Charlotte!? I guess it matches her All-American conservative look!

  • Nostalgia

The WWE doesn’t like letting stars go by their real names anymore due to the fact once they’re gone, that name is still associated with a WWE character.

  • NT86

Shaul Guerrero and Sarona Reiher got fairly alright names for 2nd generation Divas. It’s not a bad name per se but Charlotte it’s just so generic and cardboard considering who her father is.

  • KillerBee

Hmm… It’ll catch on soon but they could of been more creative.

  • WWFoverWWE

    I don’t know what to say….

  • DjayDay

Definitely like it. Ashley has a wholesome look, and the name just comes with territory. Also, it’s probably unlikely that the place her father hail from and Ash’s ring name are the same is far from a coincidence.

    • Ryan

      How about Ashley Flare? lol
      I dig Ashley’s look
Blonde beautiful pretty great smile great body…Total American Beauty! And the name Ashley Flare would have soooo much more catchyness to it … Charlotte sounds like for old ladies

  • Dave Muscarella

Hey, wasn’t Charlotte the name of Amber O’Neal in Wrestlicious?

  • iLUVValets

Can these names get anymore generic/uncreative. This aint Sex and the City

  • TorrieWilsonFan03

Charlotte is such a shit name, the name Ashley Flair has so much more prestige and it would allow her to tap into her father’s charisma much better with the flair name
