Could Mickie James Have Debuted with CM Punk?

Mickie James CM PunkFrom Nexus to Paul Heyman to Serena Deeb, CM Punk has had a whole host of affiliations over the years. But before all of those had taken place, could he have been called up with a certain ‘Hardcore Country’ Diva?

It appears that alliance nearly happened, according to Mickie James herself, speaking exclusively to Diva Dirt.

The decorated eight-time champion said of the proposed pairing: “I was supposed to debut a few times and I even debuted with Punk on Sunday Night Heat and we came back through the curtain and they [WWE] were like, ‘Uh-uh, we don’t see you two together at all’, and they pulled the match.

“I wonder how my career would have been different had I debuted in one of those different storylines.”

However, the TNA Knockout, who recently returned to action following surgery, said that she is so blessed to have finally debuted in the way she did, in a storyline with Trish Stratus.

“I was honored to work with her several times. I pretty much gained my recognition off of the storyline with her and it really built my career, the beginning of my career, who I was and my identity.

“It was cool because I was like, ‘Wow, I’m showing Trish how to do this cool counter’ or something that she had never seen before and she’s telling me ‘Don’t look at that camera, look at this camera’, and then I had no clue and I’m like a deer in headlights going ‘Which one? I only see the big one!’

“She taught me a lot and it was a cool introduction and I couldn’t have asked for a better one.”

Since returning to action, Mickie James became the number one contender to the TNA Knockouts Champion, Tara, and although she didn’t gain the gold at Final Resolution, judging by her words on last week’s Impact Wrestling, things are far from over.

I do remember around that time just waiting for Mickie (Alexis Laree at the time) to debut! There had been rumours on the internet throughout 2005 that her debut was soon. When I heard of her debut on Heat taped I was excited and the gutted when they cut it from the broadcast.

But, it definitely worked out for the better… For both of them!

Another note… they were aligned when they were both in TNA (2003 Nashville era) in the same stable with Raven and Julio Dinero.

This was the most interesting part of Mickie’s interview I thought. I had no idea about that.

  • JJ

I thought this was well known.

I’m glad they didn’t get brought up together. I think they both went on to have much more success than they would have had paired together.

Cena and Mickie would been better because there was a spark there when they did that kiss it came a cross as real feeling.

She kind of was a female Punk for a while there. Came in, feuded with the top face, outperformed the top face, got a standing ovation in Chicago when they won the title. Of course, WWE never got as invested in Mickie as they did Punk, despite the fact that the female Cena quit shortly after the feud. WWE pushes who they want nowadays despite how it goes over with the fans. Just look at Eve. She is better positioned than Mickie ever was despite being much less over. Someone should ask Mickie about THAT some time.

Again going on about Mickie and Trish (thinking that who you meant as Female Cena) which she was not. Get over it and Mickie won her reigns of titles and made a name for herself like it or not.

Eve in a better position i don’t know about that and don’t see how but that just me and what i think. Mickie was the it diva when Lita and Trish left rather WWE liked it or not if she wasn’t she would not have been a 5 time women champion and 1 time DIva champion or used to put over up and comers or be in feuds like with Melina and Maryse.

    • Jcott3

WWE must have had a lot of faith in Mickie, as she was the one they groomed to be Top Diva when Trish and Lita retired, and they had Mickie go over on both of them. She just didn’t get over as much as Trish and Lita did, but then again, no one else has.

      • BillyGP

But she was over and most popular after Trish and Lita.

Punk and Mickie while im glad did not debut together i wish they did i loved them in TNA as the gathering with Julio and Raven they worked well together.
