The Golden Bad Girl

eve2012 has truly been a year that Divas Champion, Eve Torres, will likely not soon forget. From rejuvenating her character as the deceitful bad girl who didn’t mind making out with a guy or two, or abusing her position of power as an authority figure, all the way to winning NBC reality series “Stars Earn Stripes” and announcing her engagement to a longtime boyfriend, Eve has certainly lived the American dream in the last 12 months.

She started off the year as the “girlfriend” of Zack Ryder… or so he thought. Eve quickly set her eyes on a bigger prize, in John Cena. When Cena saved her from being taken away in the ambulance of deranged monster, Kane, she proceeded to leap onto him and engage in a kiss. Call it the heat of the moment, but to Zack Ryder, it was the moment that broke his wheelchair bound heart.

Throughout the following month or two, Eve began to show a more cunning side to her that we had never seen before. She wanted the attention to be on her after previously playing second fiddle to the likes of Kelly Kelly, and, yes, even Zack Ryder. Eve joined forces with Beth Phoenix for a brief few weeks, as they did battle against K2 and celebrity partner Maria Menounos at WrestleMania 28 in Miami, Florida. While the match didn’t end the way Eve would’ve liked, she wasn’t quite finished with the SunLife Stadium just yet.

As a 12 man tag team match took place later on to determine whether John Laurinaitis or Teddy Long would control both Raw and SmackDown, Eve ran down to “help” Zack Ryder. Unfortunately, she ended up distracting him long enough for The Miz to put him away and claim victory for big Johnny. After that, Eve looked to be apologizing to her broski, but she then revealed her true colors with her very own ‘Mania moment and kicked Zack right in his Woo-Woo-Woo-You-Know-What.

Following an impressive moment that helped Johnny attain victory, Eve was appointed to be his right hand woman on the job. She would appear pretty consistently until a few weeks went by without any sighting. Many wondered what was going on, but just as they were about to raise a red flag, Torres was revealed to take part in an NBC reality series, Stars Earn Stripes, which involved a group of celebrities, alongside current and former members of the United States Armed Forces and law enforcement, competing in different challenges for charity based off actual training exercises used by the U.S. military. Eve certainly knew what she was getting into, and went in with her game face on, as she left taking home the ultimate grand prize of $100,000 for her charity, the USO, and helped fight cliched opinions of wrestlers as unintelligent, with her quick wit, aptitude and can-do attitude.

Eve returned to form, taking part in a brief feud with AJ on Raw which was ultimately cut short by her decision to go for the position of being Booker T’s assistant on SmackDown. She competed against Kaitlyn for the role, which she ended up winning by defeating the Houston native in a match on SmackDown. After a few months of continued beef between the two, Kaitlyn ended up being assaulted before her first crack at the Divas Championship. It was Eve who stepped up and took her place, going on to defeat champion, Layla, for the title at September pay per view, Night of Champions. Ever since that date, Eve Torres has continued to reign supreme as holder of the butterfly emblazoned belt, and she wears it with pride every time she appears on TV.

From her star-making year in WWE, to making her mark on the entertainment world, Eve has been one of 2012’s biggest revelations.

I think the reality show Eve did was kind of a double edge sword because while it did offer her a great opportunity outside the squared circle, the time away from wwe caused most of her heat to cool down!

It might have, but in life you win some and you lose some, nonetheless, Eve had a stellar year! I hope this satisfies the people complaining about it. Eve absolutely got her due. I knew the site wasn’t gonna ignore that, afterall this is celebrating women in wrestling. So why wouldn’t she get her acknowledgements with all she’s done this year? I’m proud of Eve, she’s really grown on me and I think she should get a Wrestlemania match against AJ this coming year.

I was hoping it would be Eve/AJ at WM but it’s starting to look like it’s not going that route.

Yay I am so happy that Eve got that heel turn. That did wonders for her and the division. I would like to see her as a top heel for a while.

So 1sr runner up is going to be Gail and them AJ will be women of the year? I assuming so. I can’t wait for the fan choice awards those are always fun!

This year was definitely the year Eve came into her own and this was definitely the year I grew to love her completely (a love that started back last year during her Vengeance match with Beth).

I was a fan of her since her fued with Michelle McCool few years ago and I noticed ever since that match with Beth she has gotten a lot of praise and respect from a lot of people that didn’t like her at first. I think that she is right behind Natalya as the est wrestler in the division. She has improved a lot. Is incredible to see how just a heel turn can completely change someone’s career. WWE is high on her, fans like her more and even those sites that criticized everything about her being boring and such now love her. She has a lot more success to come. I think is really funny how WWE makes her do all the media appearances even as a heel.

    Definitely a well-deserved place on the list… She’s had a solid year, including a title reign that’s now lasted 100+ days…

Eve has had a great year!… & I love the picture you’ve used!

Great spot. She’s grown so much on me this last year with her heel turn and she’s really had an amazing year.

  • DivaDestiny

I’m very proud of how far she has come. To me, she is Diva of the Year. :)

Eve definitely deserves it . As much as people said it , she was never boring for me as a face . I’ve always really liked eve since her feud with Maryse . She always improved her moveset & kept showing her great wrestling ability . Although , I do miss that armbar . BUT once she turned heel she really shined . She was really believable . & funny like when she would make fun of fans asking her “stupid” questions on twitter . She even tweaked her move set & added some heel submissions & attitude I’m the ring , doing those post-match photoshoots of the divas who lost to her . Miss Torres really made her heel turn the best that she could . She even got engaged ! I can’t see her turning back to face though . & I don’t think WWE should change her back either . Anyways , I completely agree with her being on the list & hope she continues to be one of the top heel divas in the division .

Eve Torres’ year for sure. She is my Diva of the year…

Congrats Eve. You deserve this. IMO I thought this was year but anyways congrats. You have brought a resurgance to the Divas divison & if you win a couple more Championships reigns & have more great feuds you will be a HOF canididate.

While I can’t say much for the derail of her uber-bitch presence on the main event scene, Eve has finally developed her wrestling into something incredibly watchable. She now feels like a more rounded package. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed her performances in the division this year and think there is still so much potential if she plans on sticking around for a couple of more years.

  • Litaker61

This time last year i would’ve rathered watch paint dry than Eve wrestle, but with the exception of Aj Eve has completely turned around and made the most progress character wise this year. Now if only a feud could’ve been developed with Naomi i think Eve would’ve had the best divas title reign so far.

    Nice :)

I admire this woman so much. She was wrongly put in the models category for years, but everyone that follows her career now and her outside the ring appearances would see how smart, strong & nice she is. A true Wonder woman of WWE.
