Raw Redux (August 5th, 2013): Layla Gets a “Flawless” Victory, But Kaitlyn’s Sights Are Still Set on AJ

As we all saw on SmackDown, Kaitlyn did indeed get one more match of the WWE Divas Championship, and like the two previous ones, she ended up tapping to AJ Lee‘s Black Widow Submission. The champ’s successful defense wasn’t without some intriguing outside interference, though. Layla turned on Kaitlyn, and skipped off with AJ thus giving all of us what we’ve been waiting for, a Layla heel turn. I totally called this ages ago, and people were so quick to jump all over me. Can I just say that I absolutely love being right?

Kaitlyn was given a chance on Raw to get some redemption, and Layla was given an opportunity to secure her new status as a top heel. We also learned a few of the motives behind Layla’s actions.

So Layla wants all the focus to be on her now. We get it. Her Instagramming more than proves that. It’s going to be interesting to see how this progesses. I wasn’t that impressed with this match at all. I thought both women were sloppy and they didn’t gel well. Layla is usually a lot better than she showed last night. I believe these two will end up having another match soon, given the way it ended, and it will likely be a lot better. AJ played a major role in this, leading us to believe that she’s not done proving just how much better she is than her ex-BFF. She ended up distracting Kaitlyn so Layla could get the victory, and then we all got to see Layla and AJ skip off into the sunset.

I don’t know where this AJ/Layla partnership is going to go. I don’t by them as “flawless” or Lay-Cool 2.0. I want to say that AJ is probably just using Layla at the moment, but Layla seems a lot smarter than that. I’m curious to see how this leads towards SummerSlam, because as we saw later on in the night, AJ and Kaitlyn are far from finished.

Big E. Langston and Dolph Ziggler (yes, our beloved Prince Dawlf) have been feuding for a couple of weeks and naturally, AJ was at ringside to glare at her ex-boyfriend. Mid-way through the match, Kaitlyn comes down and the catfight was brilliant. It spilled into the ring, distracted the men, led to Prince Dawlf getting knocked out by Big E. and the massive former bodyguard ended up getting a victory. Kaitlyn, as she backed up the ramp, looked like she immediately regretted trying to take revenge on AJ when it ended up costing Dawlf the match. If this doesn’t scream mixed tag team match at SummerSlam, then I’m not sure what does. Hopefully this gets booked ASAP because this would be one mixed tag I’d really be interested in.

I found Stephanie McMahon pretty interesting last night as well. She put together this whole makeover segment for our favorite Total Divas boyfriend and number one contender to the WWE Championship, Daniel Bryan, and like we all expected it totally flopped. Vince McMahon came out, furious, and tried to bully Daniel into the unthinkable – SHAVING HIS BEARD. It didn’t work. Wade Barrett randomly got his butt kicked, and Vince was left with his panties in a wad.

Later on in the night, a tearful Stephanie found her husband and ended up crying to him about how awful her dad was and how mad he was at her for the big flop of a segment.

Stephanie’s “tears” were enough to send The Game into a rage and he vowed to put a stop to Vince’s idiotic ideals when it came to wrestling and who would make a good champion. When Trips stormed out, Stephanie got this look on her face. It was a combination of lust and satisfaction, and it’s leading me to think that she is formulating a plan to wrestle the company away from her father. It wouldn’t even shock me to see this culminate in some type of WrestleMania match. I really don’t mind the McMahons, so I’m kinda looking forward to whatever happens. I definitely think they’re going somewhere with this so we’ll see how it plays out.

We also had a backstage segment featuring some of the cast members of Total Divas. Brie and Nikki Bella were arguing over who looks better on the show, or whatever, and Eva Marie popped up. Natalya also got involved. It was forced and awkward, and even though I’m a proud member of the Bella Army, this segment wasn’t good at all from their end or Eva Marie’s end.

Natalya’s slap is kind of how we all felt. But I will say, it definitely made me excited to see her and Brie get in the ring again. Keeping with the Total Divas talk, Cameron and Naomi also appeared on Raw. They were at ringside, doing their thing (in the outfits that Seamstress Sandra refused to fix on Total Divas!), while Brodus Clay and Tensai took on… wait for it…

THE WYATT FAMILY!!!

Crying. Can I please join the Wyatts?! If anyone in the WWE reads this at all… I WOULD BE PERFECT TO BE BRAY WYATT’S whatever. Seriously… my Twitter handle is at the top of the page. Feel free to DM me with storyline opportunties.

I’m shameless.

Another Diva heavy Raw, and lots to be happy about and focus on. And trust me guys, I haven’t forgotten about Summer Rae and the hair envy she gave me. She looked FLAWLESS last night, and after seeing Eva Marie audition to be Fandango‘s dancer, I’m thankful they picked Summer. I take back everything I ever said about her lack of dance ability, etc.

That’s about it for us this week. Lots of positives, a couple of negatives, but most importantly a lot of things to build on. I’m actually going to watch SmackDown this week and see what happens with all of this. I also want to give a shout out to Kaitlyn for getting her own tee-shirt. I actually love it and can’t wait to buy it, just kind of torn as to which one I should pick. I love seeing Divas get tee-shirts. I hoping the Total Divas cast end up with their own merch as well. It’s an upswing for the Divas, and I love seeing them all over Raw and SmackDown in various rolls. Until next week… Khaleesi out!
