Impact Write-Up (October 24th, 2013): Things Go Smoothly for Gail, but it’s a Bumpy Ride on the #DixieTrain

Hello Impact fans, and welcome! Last night we got a decent tag match and some development in the Dixie Carter/AJ Styles saga.

We kicked things off with Dixie heading to the ring, where she has set up a “Welcome back AJ Styles” extravaganza, complete with banners and merchandise, despite ordering all his merchandise being destroyed earlier in the week. She’s here to talk about AJ Styles. She may have made a ‘little biddy’ mistake recently, so her AJ extravaganza is her way of admitting that. But she doesn’t want to focus on the past; she’s all about the future. The future is a man who overcame all the odds at Bound For Glory, and she means ALL THE ODDS. She’s so proud to call him her World Heavyweight Champion. The crowd is absolutely hating on her, and it’s great! They’re chanting for Hogan at the same time, but I’m managing to block that out. I hope he doesn’t come back. Just me? (More on that later.)

She brings out AJ Styles, clapping and cheering for him as he makes his way to the ring. She has turned her attitude right around regarding the champ, and she’s determined to make it known. She let’s him know that she’s not expecting a thank you, or anything. Doesn’t he see? That last six weeks have all been about her motivating him to glory. Obviously. I don’t know how anyone could have possible misconstrued Dixie’s good intentions as being anything less than honorable. Look what the brilliance of Dixie Carter has done for AJ.

She’s given him a fancy, private dressing room with lobster and champagne. He doesn’t drink but she loves the stuff. She’s bought him the finest money can buy, and she’s picked it all out herself. How thoughtful! And she’s saved the best for last. Her piece de resistance! That means done deal in redneck, apparently. Woah, it’s a car. Anyone else getting de ja vu? Anywho… Dixie wants to know if AJ is ready for the pair of them to move forward. She wants him on #TeamDixie. She thinks the crowd agrees. They do not. AJ’s not buying it either. Shocker! AJ doesn’t want the special treatment. He doesn’t want to separate himself from the rest of the locker room, who helped build this company with him.

Dixie admits that she may have stepped out of line, just a little bit, and she’s sorry. She tells him he doesn’t have to face Bully Ray; in fact, they can both get on her private jet and get out of that Godforsaken town. If he promises they can move forward together, she will cancel his match against Bully Ray. On cue, here comes the former World Heavyweight Champion with the beautiful Brooke by his side. Things break down, Ken Anderson makes his presence felt and the ring clears. Somehow I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Dixie tonight.

The Knockouts tag match is up next. We get a quick recap of Bound For Glory, including the revelation that Lei’D Tapa has been working for Gail Kim all along. She assisted Gail in defeating ODB and Brooke, and Gail left Bound For Glory as the new Knockouts champion.

Lei’D Tapa’s music hits first, and she appears on the ramp. The music switches to Gail Kim’s then, and the two make their way to the ring for the upcoming match. Coupling Gail’s talent and Tapa’s size and brutality, they do make quite the pair. Brooke heads out next, and I have to wonder just how much trust she’s going to put in her tag partner, given how things went down at Bound For Glory, and the sheer force of the powerbomb she suffered at the hands of Tapa. We shall see.

Velvet Sky is out first for her team, as the commentators recap how Chris Sabin used her to win the X Division title on Sunday. She’s all smiles though. I’m sure they’ve put it behind them. Here comes ODB! The former champ is fired up and all ready to go. ODB starts things off for her team, meanwhile Gail and Brooke are too busy arguing who will start for theirs! ODB takes matters into her own hands and pulls Brooke into the ring. She’s not messing around tonight. ODB dominates Brooke with a shoulder block and an Irish whip into the corner. She follows up with a big bronco buster, and Brooke gets herself out of there. She’s refusing to get back in, despite Gail shouting at her. ODB grabs Gail by the hair, but Tapa saves her buddy and Brooke yanks ODB out onto the floor. It sounds like it hurt a lot.

Brooke throws ODB back into the ring and tags in Gail. She literally kicks ODB while she’s down. ODB tries t fight back but Gail drags her to her and Brooke’s corner. Brooke is tagged in. A little bit of team work from Gail and Brooke, and Brooke is in control. Brooke tries for a face buster off the ropes, but ODB counters and throws her to the mat. Both Knockouts are down as Velvet tries to get the crowd behind ODB.

It’s a hot tag on both ends, and Velvet comes in with all guns blazing. She hits some clotheslines, an elbow and a beautiful head scissors, leaving Gail Kim scrambling to get back into the match. Velvet hits a running neck breaker and gets a two count after Brooke interrupts her pin attempt. ODB takes out Brooke with a spear and they roll out to the floor. Gail Kim is on the outside too, but only to distract the referee with a steel chair. Tapa’s in the ring and she absolutely NAILS Velvet with a big boot to the face. Gail makes the pin and she and Brooke steal the win!

We cut to Dixie backstage, and she’s on the phone to what sounds like a lawyer. Her assistant is quick to shut the door to the cameras though, so whatever is going on, it’s super secretive!

Brooke was back out at ringside to support her man, Bully Ray, as he looked to reclaim the heavyweight title from AJ.

I just want to remark on the brawl between Anderson and Bully for a second. There were security guards there, but they were just watching them fight. Dixie, I think you need to re-evaluate who you’ve got looking after your talent. Meanwhile, poor Brooke is screaming for Anderson to leave Bully alone!

We cut to Dixie on the tron, and she’s holding onto AJ Styles’ contract. She says they’ve got her attention now. She’s on her way to the ring and she warns AJ not to leave. When in the ring, she tells AJ that she has spent all night long speaking to her attorneys, and she now has a contract for him. It’s full of anything he could ever want, with more 0’s than he has ever seen, and because she’s so sweet she’s going to give him the car anyway as a signing bonus.

She wants him in TNA. She wants him to sign the contract, to put the whole mess behind them and move forward together. AJ calls her a horrible human being, and she looks mighty offended by it. He says she uses people to pad her bank account, that she uses the blood sweat and tears of every man and woman that has stepped into the ring to pay for her lifestyle. He says no thanks, rips the contract, wipes it on his butt and throws it down in the middle of the ring. AJ is taking the title from her. She warns him that it’s not his to take, but he’s not listening. In fact, he takes the keys and drives off in the car she bought him.

Weeeeell. Not a bad Impact. I would have liked a promo, maybe a quick interview with Gail and Tapa about why Tapa is working with Gail, and not taking the division by herself because, let’s face it, she could. But the match was good, if a little short. The crowd was into it, especially ODB and Velvet, so that always helps. The crowd loathed Dixie tonight, too, which was great. She’s done a lot with her character in a short period of time, and while she’s far from the best, she’s definitely not the worst. I’m looking forward to next week!

Au revoir!

Velvet was the best part of that match. gail and brooke were having some issues with odd early on, nothing lookd clean

I thought the tag match was okay. Velvet was on fire though when she got the hot tag. I kind of think there should have been an interview or segment explaining Tapa and Gail’s recent alliance like Eleri said. The crowd booed Dixie like crazy, and I loved it. I’m glad that Dixie has been getting over as a heel, and she just seems to be getting better every week with her heel character. All in all, TNA was okay as far as the KOs match.

  • Numero47

The Knockouts (make that TNA all together) fell absolutely flat coming right after Bound For Glory. The fact that Dixie caught more of my interest should say how awful last night went.

The tag… ahem… I mean handicap match was so blah. Nothing really came from this match except Tapa Big Booting Velvet for the win but how many times have we seen that big boot since she’s debuted? This would’ve been the perfect opportunity to debut a new Knockout had this actually been a six way tag match or even taking Gail’s little backstage segment to the ring for an actual open challenge.

Dixie was better on mic this week than she has been in the past few weeks. I don’t mind this tug of war between her and AJ but in my opinion it should be under different circumstances besides the use of flashy cars and all this money Dixie claims to possess.

  • PopOff

Has the slashing noise always been part of Gail’s theme? Ive never noticed before

    • https://twitter.com/_EricHolt_ Eric Holt

It’s a remix of her Puppets On A String theme. She’s been using it since earlier this year.

    • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

yeah, like eric said it’s a remixed version! it debuted at the taryn ladder match :)

the story in my head is that the slashing noise is supposed to be symbolic of a katana or samurai sword cutting the strings off them darn puppets lol.

  • Numero47

And no Eleri you aren’t the only one hopes Hogan doesn’t come back to TNA Lmao

  • JillianHallTNA

When you have people in the crowd chanting Hogan’s old ass chant, you know you ain’t got no future with your company. So TNA, you better do something new and different that would make people interested in you again just like you had your fan base grew from 2007 to January 2010 until you bringed that Hogan’s yellow irrelevant ass.

  • Sou’

I’m sorry but Now WWE Divas match are better than the Knockout match

    • Wrestling.fan.from.France

NOT ALWAYS! The Ko still put on better PPV matches and, when they have time, better TV match even if they are not the most interesting.

    • wwepassion

no wwe divas matches are always silent, tna knockouts always has crowd reactions.

      • Sou’

Maybe but sorry The match IN THE RING and the story line is better in WWE at this time

        • Numero47

That can be argued. I mean the Divas are in a better storyline be we’re still very early in this storyline between Gail/Tapa and the rest of the Knockout Roster.
Plus I liked this match more than that six way tag on Raw between Natalya, Eva, JoJo against Alicia, Rosa and Askana

          • Sou’

Watch the RAW and Smackdown of this week

          • Sou’

DO not take the baddest we’ve had when AJ was hurt

          • Numero47

I was just comparing Tag Matches since that’s what we saw last nigh and was just making a comparism
AJ is medically cleared now which is a good thing since she is on a league of her own

          • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

this week’s smackdown had no more than six moves performed. if you consider, on a *wrestling* level, that to be better than this week’s knockouts match then.. well. i really don’t know what to say to you.

the divas definitely have the upper hand right now when it comes to character and promo time, though.

          • zinc445 .

yeah only brooke has character out of the ko’s at this point. but arguably same with wwe and aj lee. her character is well developed but thats about it. both companies have major flaws atm

          • Sou’

I don’t think so I think that Brooke has the baddest wrestling abilities in all the KO division

Bref… It looks like when I say this this is the end of the world for all of you I was talking about all the recent week

          • zinc445 .

yeah brooke’s moveset is way better as heel than face and very refreshing. i was just saying that all the other ko’s have been either face/heel for a long time so there’s nothing new in that aspect. but wwe is much different to tna

          • Sou’

TNA booker should go to WWE and work for the Divas division it would be perfect

          • zinc445 .

the divas division needs a lot of improving in fact more than the ko’s. wwe’s booking is quite bad lately. tna has been okay a bit too much gail vs odb but i think tna will be takinga new direction after next weeks

          • Sou’

            I hope so

          • Numero47

“End of the world” is a little too much. We’re just pointing out our views in the argument that, again, you started with your blank and random comment on how the Divas are having better matches in the past few weeks

          • zinc445 .

i agree lol. divas have been lacking lately nothing standing out, forgettable matches and poor booking. tna’s matches have stood out especially mickie vs gail on impact, 2/3 falls kim vs odb ( their best match), BFG 2013, mickie’s heel promo’s, brooke’s new heel character stood out alot to me

          • Numero47

Mickie’s Ladder promo was pure gold! I fell in love with this Hollywood Hardcore Country Heel Mickie had become
Tessmacher is still moving a momentum pace in her heel run and I only expect her to get better

          • zinc445 .

INO what a great example of originality from tna instead of going down the psycho route. that promo was excellent, best promo ive seen. pipebomb shell wasn’t all that, it was shorter than mickie’s promo’s. yeah and brooke seems to just be improving all the time! she really carried that match at bfg

          • Numero47

            Also NXT

        • wwepassion

The storylines in wwe don’t make sense most of the time when it’s time for divas to step up they fail’ knockouts are tougher and they all can wrestle

      • BorisG

That’s right. Knockouts always have better matches.

        • wwepassion

          Yup they do!

        • zinc445 .

yup! but i must mention that numbers are catching up with tna the lack of girls means the lack of interesting feuds. wwe has girls they just don’t create good feuds that are gripping. but gail seemingly is doing an open challenge in the future weeks to come so i guess thats a turning point for the division

    • Numero47

Do we really have turn this into a popularity contest?

      • Sou’

No not aat all but TNA was at a high level and now for me they are no more entertaining

        • Numero47

To each they’re own but to come on a post about last night Impact and blankly say the Divas are having better matches just gives that impression

    • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

on a serious wrestling/technical level most knockouts impact matches are better than diva PPV matches. the division may suck right now with lack of talent, character and promo time but that doesn’t mean the matches are shit as a standalone element :)

      • zinc445 .

agree! honestly both companies don’t stand out really. wwe should have the best division but they don’t. their matches are repetitive, boring even though there is a roster full of women. tna simply have not enough girls, great matches monthly but no creativity in the division of girls. tna would stand out if the had a bigger roster. divas have had one stand out match, the ko’s have had 2 huge bouts, and numerous stand out matches on impact. i dont think ive seen a bad ko title match this year really especially pvv they really deliver especially bfg that was great

  • JJ?

The Knockout match was okay. Seems they are making some progress with the division matches at least. Still needs work though.

But let me talk about EC3 aka Derrick Bateman with a better haircut *fans self* Lawd! My Goooooodness!

And that finisher of his was brutal, but of course once his opponent came out, I KNEW he was going to be a jobber for EC3.

  • 3xplicit

Velvet was great, Gail Kim & Brooke teaming made zero sense, seeing how tapa power bombed Brooke & Gail pinned her… Great logic TNA

    • zinc445 .

i guess it keeps brooke relevant in her getting the win rather than keeping her out of the ring and rushing tapa’s in ring debut. but yeah slightly stupid there should of been slight friction between brooke and gail or atleast a backstage segment in brooke questioning her win

  • 3xplicit

Omg & EC3 , that fuckin body! ..let me not

    • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

it’s so weird how wrestlers (ethan, mickie, tara) seem to get in better shape while at TNA compared to WWE, when TNA is a very part-time job in comparison.

  • OJ Von Erich

Ethan Carter the 3rd… ENOUGH SAID! ?

    • I dig CrayJ

I know right!!! I admired him in NXT,but now it’s on a whole different level <3

  • MrMexican99

I really liked Impact last night. The crowd looked larger than usual and everything felt fresh… almost like a new beginning. I see good things coming for TNA in the next months. A new Impact Zone will certainly make TV taping around the U.S. more special. And tonight, the Knockouts did great. The match was short, but entertaining. But I hope we get a promo soon from Gail.

    • @KENLushh

I must agree. TNA was the best in a LOOOONG time last night.

    • BorisG

Yeah everything was on spot. Hope they don’t mess up.

    • zinc445 .

gail did a mini promo on a post impact video tna released a day ago. she introduces the idea of an open challenge.

  • wwepassion

gail kim is one of the best womens wrestler. wwe should of her let her shine like tna did she really is a great heel.

  • James the supreme witch

I wonder who gail will loose the title to ? No face is that over yet… Loved the match solid match !

    • http://twitter.com/lostmikeys Kaledrina

they’ve been scouting out a lot of girls lately and giving try-outs behind-the-scenes and at OVW, so my hope is for a kong-style open invitation contest – a series of live try outs of sorts – which would then (fingers crossed) lead to some new ladies being added to the roster.. ?

they’ll obviously go the route of a face gail vs heel tapa feud eventually, though.

      • zinc445 .

i hope we actually see new girls, rumours have it they are recruiting newer talent.

        • wwepassion

yea looking at a bunch of models again witch is gonna be a fail most likely.

          • zinc445 .

well i hope they sign girls like santana, taeler, madison, jillian, serena, call up the blossoms

          • wwepassion

            hopefully will see

          • zinc445 .

i guess so, tna have had like 2-3 months to sort themselves out they ought to be hiring girls confidently

    • zinc445 .

im guessing she will issue an open challenge for a couple of month/weeks. a new challenger will come through an beat her for the title. a bit like kim/tess feud leading to slammy last year

  • Juan

With Hulk Hogan not returning, the rumors of Eric Bischoff being gone as well and TNA going back to Orlando (in a new Impact Zone) I hope this means that they sign more fresh talent, especially for the Knockouts Division. Lord knows we need more women. You cant run a division on just 5 women especially when 4 of them have all feuded with one another before and have been champion in the past.

Gail Kim: The best KO they currently have. She is the most skilled and rarely has a bad match.

Brooke: Decent in the ring. On par with most WWE divas . By far the most interesting KO atm.

ODB: Decent in the ring, but once you’ve seen one ODB match you’ve seen them all. She’s been doing the same thing for the past 6 years!

Velvet Sky: Awkward/really bad in ring worker. But she is the most over TNA Knockout without a doubt.

Lei’d Tapa: The newest KO and the freshest. She is also awkward in the ring but has time to grow. She’s basically a blank slate, which is a good thing.

So we definitely need more KO’s!!! Hopefully we get more skilled women as well as Gail Kim is just far and above the other 4 women in the ring.

    • Divas ChampAJ

We need atleast 4 more Knockouts.

    • James the supreme witch

True we need new KO but they’re all being used every week to their best ability. When we had allot of Ko only gail and whoever she was feuding with that month were used. They only need 3 new KO and Madison once she is back. But YAY good ridence to hogan and hello Impact zone.

    • WomenWrestlingRevolution 014

Ivelisse Velez, Santana G. and Serena need to be signed :)

      • BorisG

        And Jillian.

        • zinc445 .

and maybe taeler hendrix. if she wants to resign, i think at this point where the ko’s are she would of been useful

    • Matty Day

I wouldn’t say Velvet is awful……she’s more on par with the divas than Brooke, it’s just that everyone around her is better which makes her look worse than what she really is.

    • BorisG

Yeah I agree. You forgot Taryn, but she’s pregnant.

    • Ryan

velvets better than she was, but still not amazing. Brooke’s still a bit meh with some of the moves. Gail I admit really does do well, so does ODB.

  • jen07201
    • kewlkatz

i accidentally liked and disliked this comment and this happened…?

      • jen07201

sometimes that happens I don’t know why

      • Juan

        lol a negative 1 xD

    • BorisG

Love Gail, but I want her as face again.

      • zinc445 .

she may turn face to feud with tapa… but thats mehhh really. i hope we see an open challeneg and gail loosing the belt that way

    • Ryan

I was wondering why Gail looked a bit odd, apparently she had a nose job 0_0 oh well never mind.

  • WomenWrestlingRevolution 014

    I LOVE THEIR ALLIANCE FIERCE!

  • Richard Smith

its is nice to see the whole women division of a company

  • nismos69

it was a decent tag match.
Gail made an open challenge at BFG so maybe we might see Kong or some Big gurl return/debut to take out Tapa and then Gail

    • zinc445 .

yeah tna released some interviews post impact. gail states she’s ready for an open challenge

  • jen07201

Velvet Sky and Chris Sabin on winning the X Division Championship http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Df7Atef0Lc&list=PLcovtt7Bdo9MPiqb2GPoCNupe_BBX8LKT

    • BorisG

Hm Velvet is face and Sabin heel, maybe he finds new heel girl.

      • zinc445 .

i think she will be kept as face unless they swerve and turn her heel, which i doubt. i like the prospect of another KO doing Sabins dirty work and taking velvet out???

        • BorisG

          I like it too.

          • zinc445 .

because i don’t see where else this storyline will go it seems silly otherwise that sabin gets spotlight and velvets on the side. i hope someone else is introduced to make it exciting again

      • I dig CrayJ

There aren’t a lot of them. Two of them are already taken and the other two have scary noses.

  • BorisG

Well that was good match. velvet’s clotheslines were better. Still want more and more Knockouts to fresh the things up.

    • nismos69

Yeah Velvets were way better then her usual jump and punch clotheslines! :DD

    • zinc445 .

Yeah i think thats what we all want! i still think the ko’s have been better to watch than wwe divas i find brie/aj getting stale because nothing in that feud stands out. whereas tapa/gail is becoming intriguing with the prospect of gail issuing an open challenge. which seems do able since there’s talk of new talent coming

  • charovnica

The match was a bit off and chaotic imo.

    • zinc445 .

it seemed thrown together it could of been much better. they could of had an interview with brooke, gail and tapa before hand. gail expressingly praising tapa, brooke could be uneasy. a interview with sky her mentioning how she was used in the match at BFG

  • nismos69

Not sure if rumours about Gails nose were true, but it really looks different, and better. She looks more asain which looks good on her!

  • Liam Collett

Well if you guys didn’t see Veda Scott got a try out maybe that could be Dixie new existant and maybe get mia yim or hell even Kimberly rom shine but Kimberly from wsu would omg make the most amazing sign over

    • Liam Collett

Kimber lee* and also get some evie in there haha

  • zinc445 .

So this week we saw a decent tag match not brilliant, but it
did show how much of an asset Tapa is to Kim in terms of her getting wins. No progression
    in Sabin/Sky yet.

Tapa: Looked great at BFG power bombing Brooke giving Kim
the win. At first I wasn’t sure about this storyline, but it seems logical for TNA
to have their new KO align herself with their top KO just to make Tapa seem
more of a threat than she is. Her involvement booting Sky in the face is
similar to what we’ve seen already so they need to do something different in
order to keep it fresh. I think it’s good that she hasn’t made her full in ring
debut, no need for TNA to rush her push.

Gail: Okay it seemed controversial in them giving her the
belt at BFG seen as there was no momentum for her to win (contrary to Brooke),
but on second thoughts it seems progressive to give her the belt ( but I wish
there was momentum leading to BFG). I don’t know if anyone else has
seen/noticed but TNA has released some videos post iMPACT which has a Kim/Tapa
interview. Tapa says nothing but Kim put forwards the idea of an open challenge.
So I think TNA is headed to this direction if they follow through. This has it’s
advantages of course we will hopefully see fresh new talents as it is rumoured
that they are bringing in new talents in the months to come. The KO division
could really benefit in having new girls to take on TNA’s top KO and champ. I mean
I don’t see any other valid option other than an open challenge storyline to
run for a couple of months eventually leading to a title feud. This may lead to
a new KO winning then taking on Tapa in the future, that’s in the long run
though things may change like they did this year.

Velvet: Looked good in this match nothing much to say,
considering there was brief mention of her involvement at BFG. I hope this
leads to her getting a push. Either full out heel aligning herself with Sabin
(would leave us with 1 face ODB) but that would leave her nowhere after Sabin
drops the belt. Or keep her as face then have Sabin get angry with Velvet’s
lack of interfering in his matches leading him to getting another KO taking out
Sky. This could potentially bring in another KO storyline/feud. But time will
    tell with this storyline.

Brooke: A bit sad that she never won at BFG despite carrying
the match a looking pretty dominant with her new image/attire/attitude. But arguably
who would she of feuded with even if she won? I mean sky/Brooke feud would inevitably
be sloppy, feuding with ODB is an option but I don’t think it would create
impact on viewers. Then there’s a heel v heel feud with Gail and/or Tapa, these
types of feuds are rare so I don’t think it would work with the drought of KO’s
TNA has atm. A lot of ppl saying her in the match is random, but I don’t think
it is. It keeps her relevant to the title picture her getting that win with
Gail could lead to another title shot.

    ODB: Gets her rematch
next week, I haven’t read spoilers but expect Kim to retain I’m not expecting much
from this match I just want it over with really (hoping ODBs last title shot
really). I believe she will have a lengthy reign in conjunction of the open challenge
prospect if they push this. Hopefully they will as the division is extremely
dry all four competitors have feuded with each other, nothing new really.

I mean both companies lack something at this point. Wwe has
girls but doesn’t give them quality time. TNA gives their girls quality matches
but unfortunately the numbers of the KO’s is catching up with them we can only
see the same matches so many times. Arguably major work needs to be done for
both companies to stand out. Wwe had one stand out match this year; I wish the
push carried on instead of falling flat. TNA fell flat after Taryn took timeout
and storylines changed Mickie left and TNA s really picking up now with this
new direction they are taking. Anyway I believe the real direction of the KO
division will take place in a few weeks after ODBs rematch maybe. But I really
hope we see Kim and Tapa issue open challenges, rather than using the same KO’s each week.
