Women of the Year 2013: Lei’D Tapa

Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2014, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2013.

Lei’D Tapa

Destructive. Dangerous. Deadly.

That’s three words you could use to describe the monstrous Lei’D Tapa, who burst onto the scene in TNA in 2013. We first met Tapa on a national scale in February when she defeated Ivelisse in the Gut Check competition to win a TNA contract. Tapa would soon begin running through the completion in OVW, including competing in the first ever Fatal Four-Way Ladder Match for the OVW Women’s Championship, and eventually winning the title from Hannah Blossom. Tapa would made her main roster debut on October 3rd, where she quickly laid waste to Knockouts such as Brooke, Velvet Sky and ODB.

Tapa looked to be the next in line for a shot at ODB’s Knockouts Championship, so we were a little shocked when a 3-Way match was made for Bound for Glory, but soon it would all become clear. Lei’D Tapa would align herself with Gail Kim, helping her win the Knockouts Championship at Bound For Glory. The fierce duo would dominate the Knockouts Division for the rest of 2013.

While Tapa proved her dominance in 2013, the question is, Will she remain by Gail Kim’s side in 2014, or could Lei’D Tapa be looking for some singles gold of her own?

Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned one of 2013’s “Women of the Year”.

I’m hoping she improves even more in 2014. She’s definitely improved a bit since her first appearance in February up until now so I hope the trend continues.Working with Gail has been doing wonders for her.

    • shameronstar

Yes, it was nice being introduced to her this year and while she’s still rough around the edges I think Tapa will make some big strides in 2014 and be a rookie of the year contender!

Haters gonna hate lol we both got thumbed down for our comments xD

        • kewlkatz

Most likely BillyGP, thumbing down anything to do with Gail

      • zinc445 .

i agree Tapa will bring sparks for KO division come Slammy next year, i think she will be a title contender in 6 months time, like how they began building Taryn up to face Mickie which sadly didn’t happen.
Tapa I like a lot since her debut, she does look dominant especially against former champ ODB.

  • MrMexican99

I hope Tapa becomes more than just a bodyguard in 2014.

She had a pretty dominant year, now let’s see what 2014 has for her.

    • zinc445 .

I’m pretty sure she will bring sparks for the ko division in 2014, she is showing promise at how dominant she was against velvet sky, odb. It would be icing on the cake if taryn returned sometime in May to face Tapa/Kim if their duo is still aligned by then.
But I’m sure it will go as follows:
Kim V Rayne at Genesis – Kim retains, Lockdown – Rayne winning after earning another title shot by defeating Kim’s muscele Tapa.
Rayne V Brooke – if she’s heel or even with TNA – at Sacrifice – Rayne retaining after a short lived feud.
Tapa concludes her feud with ODB by defeating her in a street fight. Tapa could turn on Kim after her blaming her for the loss of the title to Rayne.
Tapa takes out Kim then moves on to Rayne for the title – defeats Rayne at Slammiversary. Pretty straight forward storyline, I hope TNA make it more complex have a couple of new girls, have Sabin/Sky storyline heat up.

Great year for Tapa. She had a dominant year and took over her opponents .She is really scary.

  • ThePsycho

If TNA was all about “wrestling” compared to the WWE Divas, then signing Tapa was a bad idea. She’s still green. Choosing her over Ivelisse was a bad idea. The fans said no, yet they chose her in the old TNA Gut Check.

    • Raekon

Like Ivelisse herself said, they could had signed them both so while Ivelisse would had worked the main roster, Lei could improve down in the developmental till she is ready for a call up.

  • Raekon

Great to see her grow as a character and as a Performer! :)
Looking forward to see what they will come up with for 2014.

  • charovnica

Might be the only one I actually disagree with.

    • Alex Ángeles. ?

Me too, she did nothing this year aside from ruin the 4 way ladder match thanks to her bad selling.

  • Scott J

Tapa is green for sure. But what I like about her is that TNA has the opportunity to build their own star with her. They haven’t done this with anyone since Madison Rayne and the introduction of the division before her.

yessssss. this is what i see when i see tapa. huge homegrown potential. i don’t think she should be a woman of the year, she’s barely done a thing, but i’m definitely looking forward to her growth.
