Abadon takes out Hikaru Shida and Tay Conti is victorious on AEW Dark

Another week and another stacked edition of AEW Dark. The show featured five women’s matches, one that included AEW Women’s World Champion, Hikaru Shida plus Thunder Rosa on commentary.

Lets’s get to the action.

The first women’s match of the night was Hikaru Shida vs KiLynn King in a non-title bout. The match was a very good back-and-forth encounter with King getting some strong offence on the champ. An exchange of moves, strikes, and good old fashioned Greco Roman Knuckle Lock all took place in and out of the ring. But Shida’s in-ring prowess would shine through and she would take out the ever-impressive King away with a running knee strike and Falcon Arrow for the win.

After the match, Abadon ended Shida’s celebrations with a sneak attack followed by the Gravedigger. “The Living Dead Girl” then lofted the title above her head before throwing it down on a motionless champion. It seems as though a match between the two is on the way.

Next up we had another edition of Waiting Room with Britt Baker. Reba/Rebel and Baker were on top form and as entertaining as ever. Baker’s special guests were Shawn Spears and Tully Blanchard. The interview was cut short as Scorpio Sky attacked Spears and sent him through the wall.

Thunder Rosa joined the commentary booth to hype up her fued with Baker during the Leva Bates and Skyler Moore match.

Bates and Moore traded some good offence, with Moore hitting a gut-wrench powerbomb and a nice snap suplex for two near-falls. Bates would receive a powerslam but would roll-up Moore for her third win in a row.

Anna “99” Jay vs Dani Jordyn followed in another decent affiar.

Jordyn and Jay had good chemistry with their heel characters meshing well. “The Queen Slayer” would choke out “The Real Mean Girl” for the win at the three-minute mark.

Tay Conti took on Freya States in the next match.

States looked impressive last week against Shanna and she continued to do so here against Conti. Conti was great flying about the ring to take down her much bigger opponent. Every attack that Freya countered was then countered by Conti’s submission skill, which led to the Brazilian picking up the win in a great encounter.

The final women’s match of the night was Kaci Lennox vs Ivelisse.

Lennox was making her AEW Dark debut and she the pleasure of facing Ivelisse. The newcomer did not back down but Ivelisse doesn’t back down either. Lennox took “La Sicaria” down with a cutter but Ivelisse hit a DDT before making her opponent tap out.

Well, that wraps it up for another action-packed AEW Dark. AEW seem to be using the show to highlight the women’s division a lot with more matches and storyline developments at the championship level. Although it is good to see, a similar effort really needs to placed on Dynamite in order to build an effective women’s division they have repeatedly promised.
