Backstage explanation for Ronda Rousey and Nia Jax feud

Originally, WWE had different plans for Ronda Rousey and Nia Jax.

Rousey’s feud with Nia Jax was created after plans for a feud between Rousey and Natalya were canned.

According to comments from Dave Meltzer in the last edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan was for Natalya to turn on Rousey in a heel move scheduled for right about this time. Instead, the friendship angle between Rousey and Natalya had been dropped.

WWE would have used the angle to build a match between Natalya and Rousey for the upcoming pay-per-view TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs.

The original Natalya heel turn was dropped, after legend and father of Natalya, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, passed away on Aug. 13. WWE dropped their plans, after deciding they wouldn’t be able to successfully turn Natalya heel.

WWE instead went with a feud between Jax and Rousey, which seems to be catching at least a little bit more credibility. Jax’s heel turn became stronger, after she stiffed a punch to Becky Lynch.

Natalya is currently in a building feud between Ruby Riott and the Riott Squad, after Riott broke glasses with sentimental value, from her father. The feud between the two grew so aggressive, that they got into a fight at the Survivor Series kick-off show, and were removed from the Raw women’s Survivor Series team.

Rousey and Jax have met before, when Rousey defeated Jax at a match during Money In The Bank in June.

Despite a call from critics to send Jax to developmental to train, she’s scheduled for another bout with Rousey, this time at TLC.

Catch Rousey, Jax, and all the women of WWE at TLC on Sunday, Dec. 16, live from San Jose, California at the SAP Center.
