Ahead of her six-woman tag match at Backlash, SmackDown Superstar Becky Lynch recently spoke with USA Today’s For the Win to discuss the chance of adding more comedy to her character, the addition of James Ellsworth to The Welcoming Committee and the possibilty of joining the Total Divas cast. Highlights of the interview below.

On adding more humor to her character: “I just love making puns. I love words and I love word play. I find them hilarious. Me and my friends since we were teenagers, we’d talk in different puns. I incorporated them into my Instagram game and my Twitter game. They haven’t really come on to TV that much. It’s separate from my character and what I do and being Becky Lynch. The puns are more me being Rebecca Quin. It will come in time. Right now, my character needs an element of more intensity instead of a comedy role, although I would love, for example, to team up with Breezango and do something on the Fashion Files. That is one of my favorite segments on Smackdown Live now.”

On rekindling a feud with Charlotte Flair: “If we start fighting right now, there’s not really anywhere we can go. If we can team up and be on the same page, there are a multitude of directions we can go.Eventually, I’d like to face her for a championship down the line. Hopefully, it will be me with the championship. I’ve never gotten to face her in a fair fight. She’s always had someone in her corner, whether it was Ric or Dana Brooke so it will be interesting to see how that will go. She’s here and on her own and going solo.”

On James Ellsworth being part of the Welcoming Committee: “I think it’s been brilliant. He adds an extra layer of entertainment. He’s been crucial in helping move this storyline along. But I would love personally nothing more than to drop the head off him and Beckplex him into a different town.”

On the chance of joining Total Divas: “Honestly, you’re the first person that’s said that to me. I haven’t heard anything about that. … I think there’s a certain – not a whole lot – but a certain amount of mystery of me that I don’t really envision that as the best option for me to take part in. It’s a tremendous opportunity for those that do it, I just don’t know that it’s my thing. When I envisioned my life as a little girl, that was never in my horizons. I’m going to stay with what I want in the future. I don’t see that being reality TV.”

Becky also discusses if she prefers singles or tag matches, recently turning 30 and her relationship with UFC Fighter Luke Sanders.
