A highly anticipated match is set for today’s Double or Nothing.
Dr. Britt Baker is finally getting her long-awaited shot at Hikaru Shida’s AEW Women’s World Championship. In the AEW promotion, Baker has only one win on record over the champion. That was a tag team match where she partnered with Nyla Rose to defeated Shida and Kris Statlander.
Baker recently spoke with HollywoodLife and said the following about her upcoming title match:
“I think it is going to be one of, if not the biggest matches on the entire card. I will go on and say that, I am confident with saying that.” She continues, “She is a fighter, that is for sure…I want the best of the best, and I want to go to war…I want to feel like I am on death’s door when I leave the ring. When I win, I want to have earned it, to earn that win, and earn that championship.”
Ever since Baker’s main event with Thunder Rosa in the unsanctioned Lights Out match in March, the doctor has been on a trajectory straight to the top of the women’s division. She also explains her confidence that she will get the job done and become the next champion.
“I am confident that I am going to do it,” she adds. “I have respect for Shida — she carried the division through a difficult time. I don’t think anybody else could have, including myself, but I am a different person now and it is my time!”
Shida has gone on record to say that she wanted to defend her title in front of a live crowd. She won the title over a year ago at Double or Nothing in 2020. A time where no crowd could be in attendance. On the last Dynamite, Shida was celebrated for her year long championship reign and she was presented with the new larger championship belt. A belt that Baker wants to take tonight.
Also on tonight’s card will be a NWA World Women’s Title match in where the champ Serena Deeb defends against Riho. This match will be on the Buy In preshow.
