Catalina Garcia makes her debut in NXT with a new ring-name

Catalina Garcia made her singles-debut in NXT last night with a loss when she faced a returning and repackaged Xia Li at New Year’s Evil.

Garcia is now going by the name of Katrina Cortez. She was part of the Sept. 23 number one contender Battle Royal in NXT that Candice LeRae won. Some may remember her from a brief stint on RAW where she teamed up with Sin Cara to take on Andrade and Zelina Vega.

This marks the second debut in two weeks. Rita Reis debuted last week to face Mercedes Martinez in a losing effort under the name Valentina Feroz. These two women were part of the same class that also included Santana Garret and Briana Brandy.

Cortez is the first-ever Chilean signed individual to WWE. She has been wrestling since 2015 and previously went under the ring name Jessy. She is a former two-time RLL Women’s Champion for the promotion Revolucion Lucha Libre.

With the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic now announced for the women, one can’t help but think the back to back debuts of Feroz and Cortez may lead to some further exposure for them in the near future.

Cortez posted the following from her debut.

“Welcome with a bitter taste but time after time … remember that the Diva of the Ring was not born in a day. I am studying and also improving Fighting, physically and mentally. KATRINA CORTEZ hell I love you.”
