If you noticed the great staredown between Beth Phoenix and Tamina on SmackDown last night, you’ll have seen that the Divas Champion had a smirk on her face as Tamina rushed to the ring to save Alicia Fox from a post-match beatdown.

But why was she smiling? Well, that’s because the Glamazon, who claims she has beaten everyone in the Divas division, is “looking forward” to finally getting some competition.

Speaking to WWE’s Backstage Fallout online show following SmackDown, Beth said: “Today is a special day. Tamina came to the ring and stepped up. She finally gave the Glamazon some competition.”

“I’ve been so bored around here lately. I’m thrilled. This is the best day of my life.”

In the clip, Beth also addresses Tamina’s legendary heritage (her father is WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka) and says that she worked her way into the WWE and made herself Divas Champion, unlike Tamina, who she insinuates was handed her spot because of her family lineage.

Thoughts: A strong promo from Beth which matches Tamina’s strong promo earlier this week. I’m getting excited about this eventual match-up and hope that WWE continues to amp things up next week. I like the idea that Beth believes Tamina had her spot on the roster handed to her while she worked for her spot, and I hope they continue to go that route because it makes for an interesting storyline.

Former WWE Women’s Champion Lita aka Amy Dumas is featured on a new home video release from WWE dedicated to former WWE Champion, Edge.

Lita, who was Edge’s one-time on-screen girlfriend, is one of the interviewees featured on the documentary portion of the DVD, titled “You Think You Know Me: The Story of Edge”.

Dumas tweeted about filming an interview for WWE last year, and it looks as though this is what she meant.

As well as being paired on screen from 2005 through to Lita’s retirement in November 2006, there was real life drama involving Dumas, Edge and Dumas’ then real life boyfriend Matt Hardy which translated to television in the summer of 2005.

Since her retirement in 2006, Lita has made select appearances on WWE television, but this marks her first interview for a WWE DVD project since leaving the company.

The DVD will be released on April 10th, 2012.

There will be some things that will look very familiar to you, and some things you’ve never seen. Our hope is to educate and make you fall in love with MMA as much as we have. Several times a week, we will provide you with interviews, insights, and fight coverage to help you enjoy the fastest growing female sport in the US. Speaking to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey admitted to playing mind games with Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate during their recent press tour and ahead of their headline fight on March 3rd.

Speaking to Helwani, Rousey said: “I try to look at her all the time and she’s always avoiding eye contact with me. Whenever she has her eyes down, when I’m looking at her in the eye, that inevitably has to affect you.

Addressing Tate’s comments that she is a “one trick pony”, Rousey added: “I think it’s funny that she says that. It’s really because she has no footage to study. She hasn’t seen what I can do. She’s only seen one of my tricks and what she doesn’t realize is that, with a lot of those matches, I did a different takedown almost every single time and I did a different entry into the armbar from a different position every single time. It may look “one trick” to somebody else, but there’s a lot of knowledge and training that goes into being able to [do that]. If you only see the finish and you’re not seeing the whole thing — and I think her [Miesha] saying that speaks to what she doesn’t know.”

Rousey also talked about her new found fame, including appearances on shows such as G4′s Attack of the Show, which shows crossover appeal. She said: “When I come to these events, I feel like I’m well known within a group of people — within MMA fans — but in general, I’m not a celebrity, I don’t walk around and get recognized all day long. [...] In general, I don’t think that much has changed. I train all day, I sleep all night. I try to do interviews when I can. When I come here [press conferences], I get to feel all pretty and important, but then I go home and everyone’s like, ‘Stop thinking you’re pretty and important!’ [...] Everyone keeps me in check.”

In the premiere episode of WWE’s new YouTube show Backstage Fallout, which takes you behind the scenes at Raw and SmackDown, second generation Diva Tamina — fresh off a big victory on Raw — told Divas Champ, Beth Phoenix, that her competition is “right here”.

Last week, Phoenix told WWE.com that there is no competition for her in the Divas division, but after scoring the victory in an 8-Diva tag team match on last night’s Raw, Tamina can safely say that she has a victory over Beth.

Speaking to Backstage Fallout, Tamina said of Beth’s comments on having no competition: “Isn’t that just part of what we were doing out there [giving her competition]? A lot of heads were turned. And her saying there’s no competition? A lot of heads were turned, yes — hers was one of them.”

“So competition? You’re looking at it right here.”

Thoughts: Wow! Did not see that coming. We’ve never really seen Tamina cut a promo or speak too much, but I really loved her here. She came across really well and there’s something about her in this promo that connects. Go Tamina!

I’m a little surprised that Tamina is getting the big push, as it seems she’ll be facing Beth at Elimination Chamber, as she was just in the background a few months ago. I’m excited, however, that someone new is getting an opportunity in the spotlight and hopefully Tamina will make the most of the opportunity and cement herself as a top Diva. If she continues cutting promos like this, I can see her doing well.

Strikeforce’s Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate had choice words for her March 3rd opponent, Ronda Rousey, while making an appearance on HDNet’s Inside MMA last night.

Tate called the judo expert and Olympic medalist “delusional” following comments Rousey has made on Twitter and in the press.

MMAmania.com reports the champion as telling the programme:

I don’t really listen to much of anything that Ronda says. I don’t watch her interviews. I get a little bit of that drift that comes through Twitter. When people say, ‘Oh, you know she said this, she said that.’ Half the time, I honestly think it just makes her sound like an idiot. I mean, that’s just being brutally honest. I think she’s pretty delusional. I have yet to see Ronda actually fight. I’ve seen her go out there and do her Judo and whatnot. But she hasn’t ever actually brought a fight and that’s what I’m gonna make her do…fight. Anything that she says is motivation, definitely.

Additionally, Tate addressed the fight, saying she felt fans were going to be entertained:

That’s why this fight makes for an interesting match up, because our strengths are in similar areas. We’re both really great on the ground. I have wrestling, she has judo. I also feel like I have the edge on the feet and the experience overall. I’ve been doing this a lot longer. I feel like I’ll be able to put it together better. When it comes to mixing everything and meshing it, it’s gonna make for an awesome fight. I think people are really gonna enjoy and be entertained.

As reported earlier today, former WWE Divas Champions and real life BFFs Melina and Jillian Hall faced off last night at the debut WWFX show in the Philippines.

Melina picked up the victory in the match which reunited the two Divas for the first time in the ring since their time together in WWE.

SHIMMER Champion Cheerleader Melissa, aka Alissa Flash, made an appearance on a morning talk show in the San Antonio, Texas area today to promote her latest appearance for River City Wrestling which takes place this weekend.

Melissa appeared on CBS affiliate KENS-5′s morning show, “Great Day SA” talking about RCW this weekend, as well as her recent trip to India to film TNA and Endemol’s new show, Ring Ka King.

Melissa, who brought along her SHIMMER Championship and displayed it proudly in the interview, also showed the show’s host some wrestling moves.

Melissa will make her debut on Ring Ka King this weekend when she faces Mickie James. The show can be see in India on Saturdays and Sundays at 8pm on the Colors network. The show also airs at 8pm on the UK and US version of Colors network.

Thoughts: It’s rare to see stars who aren’t in WWE or TNA make talk show appearances, so it’s very cool that Melissa was able to be on the show, and I felt that she really came across well.

At a recent live event, the FCW Divas competed in a Money in the Bank match which, unlike the WWE Money in the Bank matches, was actually a pole match, but nonetheless pretty cool.

The match saw four Divas competing the #1 Contendership to Raquel Diaz (Shaul Guerrero)’s FCW Divas Title. The participants were: Audrey Marie, Britani Knight, Caylee Turner (Christina Crawford) and Sofia Cortez (Ivelisse).

As we head into tomorrow’s 25th anniversary of the Royal Rumble, we take a look back at past Royal Rumble events.

1999 | In 1999, Chyna made history by winning the opportunity to compete in the Royal Rumble match. Not only that but she entered at the coveted #30 spot, giving her a distinct advantage over the competition. Chyna quickly made a beeline for Mark Henry, eliminating him from the Rumble, but was then taken out by Stone Cold Steve Austin.

2010 | 11 years following Chyna’s historic Rumble appearance, another powerful Diva would follow in her footsteps. This time it was Beth Phoenix who would enter the Rumble and have one hell of a moment when she managed to eliminate the giant Great Khali.

As we head into tomorrow’s 25th anniversary of the Royal Rumble, we take a look back at past Royal Rumble events.

2001 | In a heated feud between Chyna and Ivory, as well as her Right to Censor cohorts, the 9th Wonder of the World was brought down to earth after a stratospheric few years in WWE. The RTC, offended by Chyna’s ‘immoral’ behavior such as posing for Playboy and scantily clad outfits, injured Chyna’s neck with a spike piledriver. Putting the unstoppable former Intercontinental Champion on the shelf, Ivory would mock Chyna in spoof interviews and challenge the injured Chyna to a match at the Royal Rumble, knowing full well she had not fully recovered. Chyna accepted the challenge, however, and the two would meet at the 2001 Royal Rumble for the WWE Women’s Championship.

Footage of the upcoming Indian wrestling show, Ring Ka King, a joint production between TNA and Endemol is featured in a news report about the show.

CVB News has some clips from the series in the video below, including what looks like a pretty exciting brawl between former Knockouts Champion Angelina Love and Cheerleader Melissa aka Alissa Flash, who will both be appearing on the show.

The scenes were filmed pretty recently as Love only joined the second set of tapings last week. Prior to that, Melissa filmed with Mickie James last year.

Cornell Creations, the company behind a new documentary about ’80s phenomenom GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, has released the first look at the upcoming documentary.

GLOW ran in syndication from 1986-1992 and gave a start to wrestlers including Lisa Moretti, who would go on to become a three-time WWE Women’s Champion as Ivory.

The documentary completed filming last year and will be released this year.

Naomi and Ariane Andrew, who made their debuts on Monday’s edition of Raw as back-up dancers for Brodus Clay’s new “Funkasaurus” gimmick, are featured in a new video on WWE.com, in which the website interviews Clay.

Sadly they don’t get up to much in the video – just pose in the background as part of a photoshoot – but it may serve as confirmation that their role on Raw is a little more permanent than some have speculated.

No word yet on whether their names will be changed or not.

As previously reported, former WWF Women’s Champion Bull Nakano retired yesterday, the day of her 44th birthday, with a big retirement ceremony in Tokyo, Japan.

As we prepare for tonight’s TNA Genesis pay per view, let’s take a look back at past events…

2010 | In 2010, Tara and ODB continued their feud over the Knockouts Title into January’s Genesis pay per view. Tara won the belt from ODB at December 2009′s Final Resolution pay per view before losing it just two weeks later on a live episode of Impact which went head-to-head with WWE’s Raw on a Monday night. With ODB once again the champion, the pair faced off in one final match at Genesis, a two out of three falls bout to put an end to the back-and-forth for good.

Handler read out Beth’s tweets on E!’s Chelsea Lately last night and not-so-politely declined Beth’s invitation to attend a WWE event.

On Wednesday, Beth posted a flurry of messages to Handler’s Twitter account, @chelseahandler, for making “off color” comments about women’s wrestling. Handler was commenting on Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson, two former WWE Divas, who have been in the spotlight due to their recent A-list boyfriends. Handler said on her show: “Is that a real thing… women’s wrestling? I know that this Stacy Keibler girl’s a wrestler but I just don’t understand what context are they wrestling [in]? They have wrestling matches that are real? Is it like mud wrestling?”

Beth responded via Twitter: “Being WWE’s Diva’s Champ I can tell you with confidence that if @chelseahandler has any question about what a “women’s wrestler” can do or how well we entertain, Id be happy to show her. @chelseahandler please allow me to invite you to see a WWE event, live first hand 2/24 at the Staples Center. Of course, the invitation to @chelseahandler extends to the ring…any time …any place…if you would like to see what the Champ is made of.”

Responding on Chelsea Lately last night, Handler said she didn’t know what WWE was, admitted she was scared, and then added: “I still don’t know what the f**k you do, so shut up!”

Thoughts: Uh oh! Did she tell the Glamazon to shut up? Not a good move, Chelsea! I would hate to be her right now… That aside, we should remember that Handler is of course a comedienne, so it’s her job to be over the top for the camera.

As previously noted, the new season of The Biggest Loser kicked off on NBC last night featuring former TNA star Kim Nielsen, who wrestled as Desire.

On the premiere episode, Kim talked about the story of her career-ending back injury when she broke her back during a TNA dark match. The show also featured never seen before footage of that match and Kim’s injury. It looks as though TNA supplied the footage to NBC.

Someone’s got a little crush!

US Champion Zack Ryder has been trying to woo Eve Torres on Twitter in recent weeks, and now WWE.com has caught him on camera too.

Filmed after their big mixed tag team victory on Raw, WWE.com’s cameras asked Eve a few questions as Ryder interrupted to ask her to spend New Year’s Eve with him — but it seems like Eve isn’t looking to sip any of that Long Island Iced Z.

WSU has released an emotionally charged video from WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez regarding her current state of health following injuries sustained last month at the Breaking Barriers II Internet pay per view.

As we reported earlier in the week, Mercedes did in fact suffer a rather serious concussion has forced her to be pulled from WSU’s January 21st event as she is being advised not to fly by doctors.

Ahead of tonight’s WWE TLC pay per view, we take a look back at past events…

2009 | At the inaugural TLC, Michelle McCool put the Women’s Title on the line against Mickie James in the pair’s first singles encounter. However, as we know from history, this was just the beginning of a long feud between LayCool and Mickie which continued right up until James’ release in April 2010.

This first encounter capped off what was a great year for Michelle and delivered an extremely strong Divas match to end 2009.

January 2008 | It was at the first of two Final Resolutions to take place in 2008 that Gail Kim and Awesome Kong met for the second time in their championship series. The much revered rivalry between the pair helped put the Knockouts division on the map. After managing to pull off the upset the previous month, could Gail do it again?

Indeed, Gail once again managed to defeat Kong at the pay per view — but just four days later she would lose the Knockouts Title in a rematch in the main event of Impact.

Following on from Alicia Fox‘s mystery phone call a couple of weeks ago, WWE.com has a new video on its website filmed after last week’s Raw featuring Kelly Kelly and Foxy discussing something mysterious regarding Beth Phoenix and Natalya.

When probed by the camera can what they’re talking about, they respond: “You’ll find out soon enough.”

What ever could they be referring to? And how soon is “soon enough?” With WWE’s TLC pay per view in under two weeks, could it be a big stipulation match a la last year’s Tables Match? Could it be the rumored return of a former champion? The cover of National Geographic?

As reported last week, TNA Knockout Sarita — known as Dark Angel in Mexico’s CMLL promotion — had a scary moment when she slipped off the top turnbuckle as she went for a dive to the outside, falling to the floor below.

Sarita received medical attention and other than bumps and bruises, was said to be fine. The next day, she took part in CMLL’s annual bodybuilding competition as planned, and won the contest for the sixth year in a row.

The trailer for the new season of World of Hurt, which airs on the Cave network in Canada, has been released.

Replacing Lance Storm as trainer is WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper. The female cast includes recently signed WWE talent Taya Valkyrie, KC Spinelli, who appeared in Season 1, plus Sammy Hall and Lylah Lodge.

The first season featured Irena Janjic and Tenille, both of whom were signed by WWE. Janjic appears as Leah West in FCW while Tenille is expected to report to the Tampa, FL-based developmental territory in early 2012.

As reported at the start of the month, Cheerleader Melissa had the honor of competing for All Japan Pro Wrestling, one of Japan’s top promotions, during their annual tour of Taiwan.

AJPW rarely features female wrestlers, let alone American females, thus making it all the more prestigious. Melissa and Japanese wrestler Makoto (Tajiri’s SMASH promotion, previously part of Ice Ribbon) competed in the first ever female match in Taiwan, according to officials.

You can now watch Melissa’s two matches from the “Pro Wrestling Love in Taiwan” tour below. Melissa first teamed with BLACK BUSHI and Dark Dragon against Makoto, BUSHI and Ultimo Dragon. Then, the next night, she faced Makoto in singles action.
