AJ
A Diva’s ring gear can often serve as an extension of her personality, and AJ’s gear does that better than most. The bright blue color is eye-catching and sporty, the skull and crossbones adorning her hip and knees serve as personal iconography, and the modified Chuck Taylors are quite unlike any other Diva’s boots. The whole look sets her apart and shows that she’s worked at crafting a unique look and personality for herself, and I really admire that. The color of her gear works really well with the background color, making the photos really pop. Her poses are pretty simple, but little touches, like jutting out a hip or positioning her arms a certain way make them interesting. She manages to look genuinely cute, which is not something that is easily done in the WWE, when Divas are more apt to look like supermodels rather than the girl next door.

Kelly Kelly
A black and silver dress and some super long hair are all that were needed for Kelly create an interesting look. The fact that there’s nothing else to compete with them for your attention makes the mermaid hair work–it’s sexy, especially when draped over one shoulder. A more busy look may have made the hair length look excessive. Here, it’s like another piece of the outfit (and no, that’s not a weave joke). Her poses use the hair like an accessory (again, not a weave joke), changing its position in nearly every shot, and she positions her body in ways that showcase it. I don’t blame her for making full use of that hair: it makes her look effortlessly sexy, and the photos are proof of that.

Maryse
Looking like she jumped out of a magazine ad for some luxe perfume or diamond jewelry, Maryse is shining from pretty much everything she’s wearing. The plentiful jewels on her fingers, wrists and ears are far from subtle, yet they don’t look excessive. I think it’s probably due to the relative simplicity of the dress. Sure, it’s covered in ruching, but the champagne color (and the fact that it’s similar in color to the background) keeps the whole look toned down to allow the jewelry to shine. Her poses look like stuff out of those aforementioned ads, with her elegant hair and seductive, aloof poses. This is Maryse at her core: cold, sexy and beautiful. She’s so “above it all” and untouchable here that she won’t even bother to tell you to “talk to the hand”. It’s not groundbreaking stuff, but it’s certainly classic Maryse.

Rosita
Almost every Knockout has done this kind of shoot, so I guess it was inevitable that Rosita would do the whole “pose in front of a chain link fence” thing too. The stark white bikini looks fantastic on her, no doubt, and her poses are sexy, but I can’t help but think how dirty the surroundings are, and how easily she could muck up that bikini by leaning too close to anything. This is a very obvious “sexy” set-up and while I don’t try to look for nuance in photoshoots (kind of like asking for a layered plot in a rom-com), these kind never really interest me. There’s just no subtlty about a girl in a bikini straddling a fence or bending over and showing her cleavage. I’ll give Rosita credit: she’s definitely hot here, but I really wish TNA would think outside the box when coming up with setting for their shoots. When the choice is between a stark white background, a locker room or a gritty corner of the arena, you know there’s never going to be much diversity in your photoshoots.

The Bella Twins
The Bellas always find interesting ways to pose next to one another, criss-crossing at the elbows and leaning on one another’s shoulder. They do this in practically every photoshoot together, but it still works. The main difference between this and their other shoots is their ring gear: the bright purple absolutely pops against the neutral background. While I kind of wish I could burn the floating pant legs (I only really liked them on Torrie Wilson, and even then they were hit or miss), I know its a lost cause and has been part of their signature look for a while now. So, while the poses aren’t groundbreaking, I still appreciate the photoshoot for what it is: a showcase for the pretty ring gear and another chance for the Bellas to perfect their chilly bad girl aura. This shoot accomplishes both.

Beth Phoenix
Beth looks like she could spit fire in this shoot, looking lively and firey throughout. She’s dressed in a way that kind of contradicts her friendly mood, wearing all black and an abundance of leather. Maybe a lighter color scheme would have fit the mood a bit better. Still, it’s hard to not like her poses: they’re fun and her mood is infectious. The arm flexing and air punching make for great photos. In the rest of the photos, she’s a bit more subdued, though no less cheery. The only photo that departs from that is a stunning full-face shot where Beth appears to be staring into your soul. Beth appears to be having a blast in this shoot, and I can’t help but feel a bit of that energy seep through the computer screen.

Cookie
If there’s any Knockout or Diva who can get away with a gimmicky photoshoot, it’s the woman with the biggest gimmick. That, undoubtedly, is Cookie, TNA’s answer to MTV’s popular (albiet fading) The Jersey Shore. She’s still dressed as a Snooki look-a-like, and fittingly she’s hamming it up for the camera, shrugging cutely and checking her phone mid-pose. I do like the photos where she’s simply smiling at the camera, though it mainly makes me wish she could do something that’s not a shadow of some future reality show has-been. As is, though, she’s making the most of it, and the photos are fun. I wonder how long this gimmick will last, given how The Jersey Shore‘s relevance seems to be fading fast.

Eve Torres
Maybe it’s the abundance of gold in her ring gear, but Eve seems to be positively glowing in this photoshoot. She looks great, keeping a friendly but serious disposition in the shoot that befits her in-ring attitude. Her poses are pretty simple, my favorites being the full shots with her spreading her arms and flexing an arm. Like the Bellas shoot above, this ring gear shoot reflects her in-ring persona quite well and gives an oppotunity for us to get a good look at her gear. The gold looks great with her skin tone and hair color, the only poor spot being her boots, which look a bit tarnished next to the rest of them, like they need to be given a once-over with some gold cleaner.

Velvet Sky
Velvet Sky’s making the most of her visit to Comic-Con, hitting several of the typical geeks touchstones: Stars Wars, superheroes and cult horror movies. She’s posing next to a R2-D2 replica, going so far as to give it a kiss in a cute photo. A Superman shirt is worn in a tattoo parlor, where she seems to be ready to give a lucky (or unlucky?) person some ink. The Freddy Krueger gloves are really cool, especially with their gold coloring. It’s a pretty stereotypical jaunt down geek lane, but Velvet looks like she’s having fun, and that’s what this is all about. Now, if she were to hop into a full character costume, that’d be one thing, but here she’s just a spectator. I guess she’s saving all the dress-up stuff for Halloween.

Alicia Fox
This photoshoot screams “cute”, though not in the most obvious ways. Alicia’s dress, with its tube top and short skirt, may come off as merely sexy to some, but the floral print and frilliness, paired with the headband, is definitely cute in my book. Her poses switch between two different locations, a stark white backdrop and a much more interesting spot that plays with different shades of gray. Her poses are overall of the cute variety, her smiles and the positions of her arms creating photos that are interesting in their sweetness. It’s easy to pose looking all sexy and unapproachable, and Alicia manages to go beyond that to create a different mood for her shoot. It’s fun and makes you think that, despite her heelish tendencies, she might have some niceness in there somewhere.

Gail Kim
I love how rich the colors are in this photoshoot, from the walls to the carpet to even the tan shade of her dress. It all pops. The lines of the dress make it come alive, and its form fit compliments Gail really well: it’s both very fashionable and very sexy. The setting and clothing makes it a decidedly sexy shoot, with the colors and dark lighting and tight dress, but Gail makes it much more interesting with her poses, sitting picturesquely in a chair and leaning up against a wall, creating shadows and allowing the warm colors to pull it all together. Gail, like Alicia above, shows that she can do so much more than the 2-dimensional “sexy” act, and her photos are all the better for it.

Melina
Damn, those boots are intimidating! The gold, spiky boots look like second skin on Melina, almost like when Angelina Jolie’s shapeshifting character in Beowulf sprouted heels out of her feet. She makes them even more interesting/terrifying with a few of her poses, the perspective of the camera slightly warping her. It’s certainly interesting. The rest of her outfit, a dark, draped dress with gold accents, is a nice compliment, color-wise, and the accent at the back looks almost like it was taken from the set of some television show set in ancient Sparta. Her poses overall are more of the usual Melina fare: arms up, sly smile. I think the shoot would have felt more cohesive if the camera angles were used in more photos, creating a bizarre shoot that really would have stood out. And if any Diva could pull off a surrealist shoot, it’d be Melina.

Winter
Wow, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Winter look sexier! She’s wearing all black, which isn’t exactly groundbreaking for her, but the dress, with its corset-like accent, the tall boots and gloves are jaw-dropping. Her poses are the same, with her eyes practically piercing your soul. I’m not quite sure what the feathery thing she’s holding in two of the photos is, but I kind of like it. It’s like she domesticated a small animal and decided it would look better as a glove. Obviously, that’s not the story, but it wouldn’t exactly be outside the realm of possibility for Winter. This shoot is, like I’ve said, the most sexy I’ve ever seen her. She’s truly knocked it out of the park.

Kaitlyn
In a bit of a unique combo, Kaitlyn’s wearing black pants, boots, a leopard print bra top and a vest. The vest kind of looks like a police gun holster, but oddly enough it sort of adds to the tough look she’s going for with the heavy boots and pants. It’s a kind of odd combination; maybe a more substantial top would have made more sense and would have made the vest look like more than something just hanging there. The poses seek to compliment the tough look with some smirks and seriousness, but all together they’re not all that exciting. It all makes for a photoshoot that is missing a bit of a spark, something to really pull it all together.

Natalya
It’s funny that a woman once known for a devilish laugh now tends to look so angelic. This photoshoot isn’t the first instance of that good girl grace, but it’s a perfect example of it. She’s wearing a tan skirt with a finely detailed top, keeping the rest of her look simple. It’s a gorgeous look, with her wavy and hanging down on the top which, while very detailed and colorful, looks very subtle too. It’s all in what it’s paired with: the tan skirt and even the tan colors on the walls let the top do the talking, and it plays beautifully. Her poses are equally simple and pretty, her arms held up against the wall or behind her head. She looks so natural and almost statuesque in her poses. These photos are gorgeous.

Rosa Mendes
It looks like Rosa found an abandoned corner of an arena for her photoshoot setting, posing in the shadowy corners, against plastic sheeting and using it all to produce silhouettes and shadows. It’s very creative and produces some unique photos. Her clothing, a partially sheer dress and knee-high boots, work well with the grungy setting due to their black colors and slight edginess. I really love how Rosa turned an otherwise uninviting setting into an intimate and seductive one, playing with the light and posing just right to produce the right effect. You can tell a good deal of thought was put into this, and I can always appreciate it when photoshoots go that extra mile.

SoCal Val
SoCal Val has taken a very va-va-voom dress and posed just as it required: lots of pouting, “come hither: eyes and a relaxed demeanor. I like the single sleeve, and how it keeps the dress from being a standard strapless number. Her hair is styled just so, with the bombshell waves always hanging on one side. It’s not the most subtle or creative photoshoot, but it shows that Val knows how to pull off a classically sexy look. And, of course, the red looks spectacular on her. The white setting looks better with it than I think most TNA photoshoot settings would; a couch or grungy hallway wouldn’t have done it justice, and the stark white backdrop lets the dress–and Val–shine.

Tara
In a photoshoot that debuted on July 4th, Tara is doing her patriotic duty and wearing the American flag in dress form. It’s a fun, sparkly number that makes for a simple fun look that is made even more fun by Tara’s poses: she salutes in two of the photos, injecting some of her silly personality into it. I like the way she put together a 4th of July themed photoshoot. We’ve seen plenty of these kinds of shoots, to decidedly mixed results. It’s tough to wear red, white and blue stars or stripes without looking cheesy. Tara definitely doesn’t look cheesy here; it really looks good on her. Maybe it’s the red streak in her hair that makes her look extra patriotic.

Beth Phoenix
This zig-zag dress highlights Beth’s curves in just the right way: it’s a classic example of looking sexy but not overdoing it, and the boots and tights further that impression. I love the blazer too. In fact, I wish it was present in more of the shots, because it really popped against all the black and cream in the rest of the outfit. Her poses are at their best when they’re slightly serious, but that’s not to say that a smiling Beth is unconvincing; it’s just that her enticing Glamazon persona shines through more with a straight face. This shoot serves to highlight some of the Glamazon’s greatest assests, namely her hips and her arms, and though her poses help to show them off, it’s really the dress that best compliments them. It’s like that dress was made for her.

Maryse
This is almost a stereotypical sex siren look: a tight, short strapless red dress, pin-straight hair and black high heels. Maryse wears it well, of course, though she looks almost un-Maryse in some of her poses: she’s smiling and looking inviting. This isn’t a bad thing, but it’s funny that in a most sexy and unattainable look, she looks downright friendly. Some of that classic Maryse sass is there as well, though she stops short at going all Jessica Rabbit. Hm.. Halloween costume, anyone? I guess I should just appreciate a little newness and range in Maryse’s posing, but if there was any outfit in which to pull out all the sultry looks and dramatic poses, this was it.

Tamina
Tamina has really come a long way in producing interesting photoshoots, and this is her best one yet. Her outfit, a high-waisted skirt over a black and white leopard print corset-like top. It’s sleek, stylish and eye catching in just the right way, and the colors play perfectly against the gray background. Speaking of eye-catching, her braided hair is something to behold as well, and I love the way it’s placed, making for a cool asymmetrical look. This is the edgiest and sexiest Tamina has looked, and the only fault I can find with this shoot is her poses: they still look a little stiff. Still, she’s showing a lot of growth in that regard. We just need to banish her hands from her hips, at least for a few shots.

Alicia Fox
There’s a lot going on here, from the hot pink heels, the tie, the gold thing hanging from her hip to the mirror. This could easily turn into a jumbled mess, but Alicia manages to hold it all together, the gray color scheme neutral enough to not compete with her fiery red hair and Barbie heels. I’m usually of the mindset that you can break a look by over-accessorizing, and maybe Alicia could have ditched the tie or the gold dangly thing, but the whole look is kind of charming in its untidiness. Her poses are good, and most interesting when the mirror is involved, producing some really unique photos with her reflection and the bright white frame in the background. It’s a loud, busy photoshoot, but it’s a controlled chaos.

Brie Bella
Brie looks very casual and beautiful, her hair loose and wavy, and her single long necklace is more than enough jewelery. She looks perfectly at ease, enough so to make it look natural that her posing partner is a chair. The way she uses it is interesting: sitting on it, crouching beside it and even leaning against it. At times, it looks a bit unnatural, like she’s selling the chair in a catalog, but I like the way its colors play off the ones she’s wearing. The gray top (which is really cute, and unique with its cape-like back) and black mini skirt, in a strange way, compliment the colors of the chair. I’m sure it wasn’t the intention at all to find a chair whose color plays off her clothes, but the photos are better for it.

Kelly Kelly
For a simple celebratory photoshoot, this shoot is pretty interesting. Kelly’s shiny golden ring gear plays well against the silver of the Divas Championship belt. Her poses do well to show off the belt while not merely holding it–she interacts with it and makes for some fun photos. You can genuinely tell she’s psyched about holding that belt, and it probably has something to do with the fact that she had just won it, given the fact that she’s wearing the same gear. She manages to make the belt look important and not just like the Barbie accessory we like to degrade it as. As a title it may importance, legacy and a sense of legitimacy, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t look good with Kelly.

Velvet Sky
Velvet Sky’s main objective in this shoot is, clearly, to show off her t-shirt. The poses aren’t diverse, and I don’t suppose they’re meant to be. So, since the focus is the shirt, I’ll take about that: it’s a clever way to celebrate the length of her TNA tenure, saying that she’s been “letting the pigeons loose” since 2007. It’s a cute shirt, and is something I’m sure would be a decent seller if it was marketed as official TNA merchandise. Unfortunately, though, it looks like this is one of a kind, since it’s being auctioned off on eBay as we speak. Maybe in the future it can become an official t-shirt. Until then, it made for a cute little shoot that reminds us just how long we’ve known Velvet Sky by this name, or rather, how long it’s taken us to get used to that name.

AJ
The last Diva I can remember rocking Converse boots was Trish Stratus, but she certainly didn’t wear them like this. AJ is leaning more towards a girly punky look, pairing the boots with a dress bearing multiple patterns and several pairs of rubber bracelets. You’d think the leopard print and the polka dots would clash with each other, but I suppose the placement of the prints and their black and white coloring helps them work together. Of course, a pair of knee-high Chuck Taylors isn’t the first thing you’d pair with a strapless dress, but she definitely makes it work. I think it helps that she’s got a cute vibe about her. It comes off as a genuine signature style, not some fashion miscalculation. Her poses help reinforce that cute persona, as she’s kicking up her heel, playing with the dress, and smiling all the while. This style certainly works for her, and really makes her stand out. I hope she allows that difference to stay in future shoots, and doesn’t just succumb to the usual Diva heels-and-dresses looks.

Gail Kim
Almost everything Gail does she does with the agility of a cat, and even in this photoshoot you can see it: she’s posing on a chair in high-heeled boots and looks perfectly at ease. You can almost picture her landing on her feet if someone tipped over the chair. In addition to the footwear, she’s also wearing a white strapless top that matches the boots along with some some black jeans. She looks amazing, and her poses serve to add even more interest: she props her feet up against the back of the chair, sits on the back of it, lounges across it and even crouches in front of it. It look like she was constantly moving, and I like the effort to create diverse photos. She really uses the chair for all it’s worth, even going so far as to demonstrate her in-ring agility with it. Maybe her next photoshoot can step up the agility demonstration even more–posing on a fire escape, anyone?

Rosa Mendes
Going for stylish simplicity, Rosa’s wearing a long-sleeved black dress and black boots with a major pop of brightness delivered by a white hat. The hat becomes her posing partner, in a sense: it’s constantly moving, she’s constantly got a hand on it, and she seems to be posing around it. In a way, it becomes a bit repetitive, but I still think she rocks it. She’s certainly got a cool enough vibe about her to make the hat look stylish, and not like some try-hard accessory. She really looks great. The poses are nice and diverse as well, but I still think there was too much attention paid to the hat–it’s almost the focus of the shoot, instead of Rosa. Maybe if it stayed put for a few shots, I’d feel that it blended in better. Still, she pulls off the look, and I’m sure not every Diva could do that. Hats tend to either look super stylish or super ridiculous to me. Rosa definitely falls into the “super stylish” category.

Eve Torres
Eve looks quite pretty in this empire-waisted dress. It flatters her really well, showing off her toned arms and legs. Her big hair gives the whole look a kind of vintage feel, though it’s still undoubtedly modern. I love the simple color scheme, and how the accents at the waist are echoed in the bracelet. It’s all a very put together look. Her poses, though, are a little less interesting. She’s mostly cool and friendly, but there’s not much spark in the photos. I kind of understand, with the toned-down colors, why she’s not giving peppy wide-mouth smiles, but I still feel like the mood of the shoot is too toned down. The plain black background probably doesn’t help either. It’s just, when I look at these photos, I don’t see much that’s memorable, aside from the dress, and I always prefer it when the shoot is carried by the Diva, not the clothes.

Maryse
This is definitely a classic Maryse style photoshoot: she’s wearing something with a high fashion feel to it with some big, wavy hair and plenty of flashy jewelry. The dress looks gorgeous on her, with its fit and design complimenting her curves in a lot of ways. The lines of the dress pull the eye to her waist instead of her chest, and I think that’s a much more stylish way to look sexy. Her poses are, as always, evidence to her haughtiness: she frequently looks off-camera and tosses up her signature “talk to the hand” gesture. Maryse has really perfected the holier-than-thou poses, making them look anything but forced. The whole package, from the dress to the accessories to the poses is, like I said, classic Maryse. She looks beautiful and is posing like she knows it.

Melina
Melina, as usual, is thinking outside the box, and in this shoot has decided to pose alongside a semi truck. With its interesting colors and textures, it really adds something to the shoot, and Melina doesn’t let it go to waste, working several angles from posing in front of the grill to leaning against its side to hanging off the passenger side door. She creates a lot of interesting photos, showing plenty of attitude. It’s a different kind of attitude, though: she’s not sneering, but even her smiles show a bit of her heelish confidence. Her outfit compliments her slightly grungy surroundings, wearing black pants with lacy cutouts, high-heeled black boots and a corset-like tank top with a decidedly grungy font adorning it. It’s definitely an outfit that works better in these surroundings than it would in a regular studio shoot, because it’s got a lot going on and the big shiny semi kind of helps take some of the focus. Speaking of shine, her hair and makeup are gorgeous in their own right.

Alicia Fox
We can all gauge how recent an Alicia Fox photoshoot is by looking at her hair, and it’s clear that most of her photoshoots (save for one) have been waiting in the wings a while, and this one’s no exception. Here she has her old, non-fire engine red hair, and is missing some of that attitude we’ve seen as of late. Who knows, maybe the ‘tude is all in the hair? Regardless, Alicia looks very pretty here, going rather simple with a dark dress and heels. The design on the middle of her dress is really cool, and adds some edge to the look. Her whole disposition in these photos, contrary to the look, is sunny, and her posing is cute and friendly. It’s not the most captivating or interesting shoot Alicia’s done, but it’s by no means boring. She adds little touches here and there to make the photos stand out. Still, I kind of feel that she could’ve taken a cue from her dress and looked a little more textbook “fierce”, showing a bit more attitude to match the ensemble. Something like the floral dress she wore a few photoshoots back would probably work better with these cheery poses.

Kaitlyn
Kaitlyn looks like she just hopped off a Harley, wearing all black, lots of leather, studs and fishnet. She kind of looks like Tara’s WWE counterpart. Hey, maybe Tara could lend her her motorcycle for a few shots. Kaitlyn even has some edgy hair going on here, with black streaks running alongside the bright blonde. Altogether it’s a look that not everyone can pull off, but I think Kaitlyn does it well. It helps that she looks nonchalant in these pictures, relaxed and cool instead of looking like a try-hard. It kind of, in a way, reminds me of Ashley Massaro‘s look, even though hers was more punk rock than hard rock like Kaitlyn’s. I have to say that Kaitlyn pulls it off a lot better, keeping it relatively simple instead of throwing on everything she owns that has studs and tossing up devil horns. I’d like to see what else Kaitlyn can do with this kind of look–it sets her apart from her fellow Divas, something that a relatively new Diva like her could use.

Natalya
Natalya‘s mixing both put-together and casual looks here, pairing a tailored jacket, sweater vest, button-down shirt and heels with skinny cargos. Color-wise, is all goes well together, being dark and simple. Some small aspects, though, prevent the look from working. One is the untucked shirt that kind of goes against the tidiness of the vest. It’s makes her look more like a rebellious private school kid than a fashionista. The pants, with their pockets and overall casualness, don’t work perfectly with the trimmed look up top either. Maybe if she lost the pockets, the whole look would flow better. Still, I really admire her going for a look that, at least compared to what a lot of Divas wear for shoots, is slightly androgynous. I’m not saying a Superstar would wear it or that its overtly masculine, but it’s kind of reminiscent of the Old Hollywood female stars who rebelled by wearing pants instead of skirts or dresses, her smirking and super casual poses helping to reinforce that aesthetic. Of course, this look isn’t some statement or big deal, but I like what it calls to mind, so she gets points for that.

SoCal Val
There were a few new photos of Knockouts this week posted on TNA’s website, but it seemed like they were all in 3s. Personally, I don’t feel it’s fair to judge a photoshoot based on only 3 photos, so I’ll wait for more photos to be added (which they usually are) before I give them the Unwrapped treatment. This SoCal Val shoot is similar to those, since only a few photos were posted before the full shoot was unveiled. In this shoot, she’s wearing what pretty much amounts to a lingerie set, a pink, polka dotted set over black bottoms and stockings. She, of course, looks sexy and puts a bit of a spin on the look by untying the back. For a photoshoot that’s pretty much her hanging out in her underwear, it’s not trashy, and I think it has a lot to do with her poses–she doesn’t look like she’s trying to get on the cover of Maxim with serious, sexy faces. She’s having fun with it and lets the clothes make the statement, rather than the lack of them, and I think that’s what separates the sexy photoshoots from the trashy ones. Beth Phoenix
A lot of women try to emulate that classic pin-up look, to decidedly mixed results. The usual pitfalls are that the look is too cheap, trashy or overdone. The key, in my opinion, to pulling off the look is to keep that vintage aesthetic so that you look like you could have really been one of those girls, not just a girl in the 21st century wearing polka dots, putting on red lipstick and rolling her hair. Beth has decided to give it a go here, dressing in a polka dot halter top, a gray high-waisted pencil skirt and nude pumps. Her hair is done-up too in a period appropriate wave. All together, it’s great look that manages to be both modern and pin-up–the color choice is modern, and the silhouette is pin-up. Her sculpted frame may not exactly fit with the “softer” look of the mid-century models, but I think it’s the way she positions her body–i.e., the poses–that make me overlook that slight inconsistency. Most of her poses, with her carefully bent knees and cheery disposition, fit the theme and make me feel that, if this were many decades ago, Beth could have been one of those models. My usual gut reaction to shoots like these is to notice how deliberate and cheesy the Diva or Knockout in question looks in a “vintage” look, as if she’s playing dress-up rather than crafting a look for a photoshoot. Beth, though she doesn’t fit the “classic” look of a pin-up, pulls off the look rather well, and sells it further with her poses. It’s moments like these when she puts the “glamor” in “Glamazon”.

The Bella Twins
This is a rather standard Bella Twins photoshoot, including a few tandem shots and a few solo ones. Brie and Nikki are posing in matching camouflage ring gear, doing the usual mix of haughty smirks and smiles. There isn’t too much of this photoshoot that stands out, but I really like their positioning in some of these photos, where they slightly overlap each other, one in the foreground and one in the background. It’s a simple touch, but creates much more dynamic photos that ones where they’re simply standing hip-to-hip. I’m sure shooting numerous photoshoots together gives them ideas like that, and I’m glad to see that they’re coming up with different ways of posing together, since it seems like 9 times out of 10 they’ll be having shoots together rather than separately. Other than that touch, this photoshoot is the usual Bella fare, which isn’t a bad thing, but just isn’t all that exciting. I have to say, though, that I prefer this kind of photoshoot to the highly-themed, prop-laden ones they do every so often. Subtlety, a lot of the time, creates better photos.

Kelly Kelly
Kelly’s going for a decidedly understated look here, wearing a tan dress and off-white heels, forgoing everything else in the way of accessories. Her hair is slightly wavy, giving her a relaxed look that is complimented by how her dress hangs off her shoulder. She does a few care-free poses, and that looks best in this look. The few where she tries to do a bit too much–puckering her lips or looking too sultry–just doesn’t work with this toned-down look. The colors are a bit mucky too, with her skin looking a tad bit fake-baked and her lipstick matching her dress, which gives it a funny look. I feel that a genuinely natural look–no fake tanner and less noticeable nude lipstick–would have complimented her better and would have made for a better photoshoot. Here, it looks a bit manufactured, trying too hard to appear natural. Still, I like a lot of the photos, pose-wise, and I think the idea she went for was a good one. She should’ve just gone with the real thing.

Gail Kim
I could’ve sworn that this photoshoot lost about 3 photos between when I first saw it and now. Strange, but I’ll work with what I’ve got. Gail’s wearing one of those hoodie dresses in a vibrant shade of blue, pairing it with black over-the-knee boots. Most of the shoot consists of her playing with the hood, and so while they make for some pretty photos, they aren’t all that interesting. The most I get out of this photoshoot is how good the blue looks on Gail. I’m pretty sure this dress is from American Apparel, or at the very least least similar to something they sell. It’s nice to see someone wearing it looks as those she’s showered recently and is wearing a bra. It just goes to show you how a few touches can make something look so much more flattering. Still, due to the lack of diversity in her poses, this shoot is missing a spark–but not to the degree that she’s replicating American Apparel’s favorite “dead in the eyes” look. No, Gail looks quite alive here.

Maryse
Maryse looks positively golden here, and not just in a metaphorical sense: from her hair to her dress, she’s as bright as her sparkling jewelry. The sequin-covered dress is short and otherwise simple, but Maryse makes it look natural and decidedly un-racy by pairing it with complimentary shoes and jewelry. They all stick to a similar color scheme, allowing the dress to take center stage. The one thing that threatens to take focus from the dress is Maryse’s hair–the wind machine is whipping it around so much it looks like she may take flight. It’s very vintage supermodel-esque, and I suppose the mini-dress adds to that visual. Her poses play into that theme as well–she looks casually intimidating, if you get what I mean. It’s Maryse being her arrogant self, but not looking as though it takes a lot of effort to look so cool. It’s as if she looks like this 24/7, complete with wind machine. If that’s not the mythos of the classic supermodels, I don’t know what is.

Rosa Mendes
Sporting some newly-darkened hair, Rosa is taking a stroll along some picturesque streets, clad in an all-white ensemble. The dress, skin tight and covering one shoulder, is very chic, but the shoes might be too matchy-matchy, though if she’s going for that old-school supermodel look like I just mentioned for Maryse’s shoot, she’s hitting it right on target. It does look like that old style of sexy glamor where matching dresses to shoes was perfectly in style. These days, though, I don’t think matching them is the best look, unless they’re both black. But, moving on from that, I have to say that the setting of the shoot is quite interesting. Walking up a street, posing against giant wooden doors and vibrant red walls, Rosa creates some great photos. She works with the various backgrounds, textures and colors to capture interesting shots. I especially love the wide shot set against the building. It feels like there’s more life in these photos than your average studio shoot, given how she’s using her surroundings to her advantage, and little things like the framing of an-out-of-focus building makes what could’ve been an average photo look amazing.

Rosita & Velvet Sky
Well, this is a unique shoot. Granted, TNA is no stranger to eccentric photoshoots, but it’s unique to see this pairing of Knockouts: Rosita and Velvet Sky, who aren’t exactly bosom buddies. In this shoot they’re playing video games–that is, when they’re not setting the controllers aside and very obviously showing off their butts to the camera. The shoot is a mixed bag: some of the shots are cute and funny, namely the ones where they look like they’re in the midst of one very competitive game, but when they try to turn it into some sexy slumber party fantasy, I lose interest. It’s just very over-the-top and cheesy when they’re crouching on a couch, controllers set aside, staring very sexily at the camera. I think if they wanted to do a fun, silly video game-themed shoot, they should have done that and stuck with it. If they wanted to do a tandem serious and sexy shoot, maybe they should have left the couch and found a less awkward spot in which to pose.

Kharma
How’s this for a spin on the usual Diva photoshoot? Given that Kharma has demonstrated an inability to play well with others, it makes sense that she wouldn’t exactly cooperate for a photoshoot. In these photos, she poses for a few select shots and then, for reasons unknown, attacks the photographer and breaks the camera. Photoshoots usually don’t break the fourth wall like this, but it definitely works with a Diva like Kharma, who as of yet doesn’t seem to want to do much else than inflict pain on anyone who strays within her grasp. Sure, it’s a bit cheesy, but it’s the most entertaining photoshoot I’ve seen in a long time, and it’s damn creative too: they managed to get some posed photos out of Kharma without breaking her bad-tempered character. Every single shot is interesting in its own way, whether she’s gazing creepily off-camera or charging at directly at the camera. It shows that Kharma is more than just a mean-looking Diva–she’s got personality and a definite spark, even though the demonstration of said spark resulted in a “injured” photographer. I love the shoot: it’s so very fitting for her character, and the shots are so memorable.

Miss Tessmacher
Posing in her ring gear, Miss Tessmacher is showing off her outfit and mugging for the camera in various ways. The color of this gear reminds me of one of similar color and texture worn by Kelly Kelly. I’m not sure which one I prefer, though I must say that the rhinestone-covered knee pads are a unique touch. The poses are hardly subtle, with Miss Tessmacher showing off her butt by hanging her jacket just under it, throwing up the rock and roll hand sign, and popping on her eyeglasses for a few shots. There’s just not a lot of consistency–it’s as if she’s just doing whatever comes to mind. Given that this is a shoot meant to show off her ring gear, I don’t really mind–I’m not really paying attention to the nuances of her poses anyways, but it’s a bit silly seen all together. Personally, I much prefer her earlier ring gear shoot, the one with her black attire. It was sexy, but she looked all business, ready to jump in the ring. Here, it’s more like she wanted to tick every box, which results in a disjointed photoshoot.

Natalya
Natalya is sporting, as always, a flattering shade of pink, this time in the form of a one-shoulder dress. It’s an interesting dress; its sleeve is quite nice-looking on its own, but I imagine if it was on her other shoulder as well, the dress would be more bridesmaid-in-1980s-Malibu than modern fashionista. As is, though, it’s very pretty, giving the look just enough spark to allow her to play it safe in the rest of her ensemble. Posing in a lone corner of some hallway, she pulls out some really interesting photos, simply sitting on the floor or posing against the brown walls. She looks gorgeous and really puts in an effort to make some captivating photos–you can tell she knows what she’s doing with her poses. Of course, the wind machine deserves some credit, elegantly sweeping her hair back and adding some drama to the photos. I’m kind of shocked how well this photoshoot works, what with a bright pink dress posing against brown walls and carpet reminiscent of The Shining. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does, and I think Natalya has a lot to do with that.

Tamina
Tamina is definitely showing a lot more personality as of late in her photoshoots, and her poses in this shoot, though mostly hands-on-hips tough girl poses, still show a good deal of diversity. It’s little things, like the way she’s positioned relative to the camera, that make for interesting shots. She’s certainly come a long way, but there’s always room for improvement, and she’s showing a lot of potential. Her outfit here kind of reminds me of something Jennifer Lopez would have worn in her early 2000s heyday, so I don’t think it’s really fashionable today, though for a all-demin jumpsuit, Tamina pulls it off really well. It flatters her figure and makes a for a sexy look that preserves her anti-Diva toughness. This photoshoot in itself is pretty much a snapshot of Tamina’s photoshoot abilities: a bit rough around the edges, but totally capable of achieving greatness.

Tara
Photoshoots that are heavy on a theme usually scream “cheesy!” to me, but Tara always seems to pull them off. I think it has a lot to do with her presence and ability to make almost anything look good–sumo wrestler suit, anyone? Here, she’s going for a cabaret look with a black and white color scheme, a fedora and, in one photo, a strategically placed white button down shirt and black tie. She really does look like she’s performing a cabaret act, even miming some cigar smoking and lounging in a backwards chair. I almost expect to see her kick aside the chair and start dancing. Mind you, I’m not sure she demonstrated any forte for cabaret-style dancing back during her short-lived dancing phase in the WWE, but I don’t doubt that, if the situation called for it, she could pull off a kick-ass cabaret routine: she’s funny and has got enough personality to take down a full-grown elephant. Maybe knowing that is why I think she pulls off this whole theme so well.

The Bella Twins & Melina
It’s a rather unimaginative salute to Cinco de Mayo, but the Bellas and Melina, three Divas of Mexican descent, have joined forces for a photoshoot, donning the colors of the Mexican flag. The main gist of the shoot is that they’re all together, showing their Mexican pride in green, red and white. They’re all wearing flowers in their hair too, seemingly a trick Melina picked up from the Bellas. I suppose I should be glad that there’s no silly props to be seen, but I still think they could have done more, maybe with the setting, to do full justice to the liveliness and spirit of Cinco de Mayo. Even so, the women all look great, and if nothing else, this shoot serves to represent a measure of diversity that’s present in the WWE.

Beth Phoenix
Abound in neutral colors, Beth is posing in a tight gray dress and black boots while in front of a steely background. This color scheme suits Beth really well, her blonde hair popping against the gray. Her poses are friendly and relaxed, just diverse enough to be interesting. The color scheme helps to tone everything else down visually and pulls everything together. For instance, her sexy dress, skin tight and strategically cut on the chest, looks a lot more chic when placed against a gray background and with black as the only competing color. That’s not to say that Beth didn’t do her fair share towards making this photoshoot great, but it goes to show you how much just a choice of color can do.

Melina
Posing on her own this time, Melina is bucking the norm, so to speak, wearing a billowy skirt. The outfit as a whole is beautiful and classy, something that you don’t see too often in the wrestling world. It pulls off a mean feat too: not only does the outfit cover up a good deal of her, but it looks good doing so. It doesn’t overwhelm her or look matronly, even compared to the skimpy attires we see so often on WWE Divas. The taupe and navy blue look great together (though some might decry the top and shoes as being too matchy-matchy), and Melina looks very down to Earth, playing her her skirt, lounging on the floor and smiling sweetly. It’s not a photoshoot that fits with her character by any means–heel Melina would probably sooner sneer at you than smile–but I can’t help but love a photoshoot that manages to make a Diva look down to Earth, classy and stylish at the same time.

Tara
Now here’s a photoshoot prop I can get behind. Tara’s posing with a stylish motorcycle, one that looks almost as tough as she does in her leather and fishnets. Tara pulls off some interesting poses on the motorcycle, riding it and lying against it. I can really appreciate this photoshoot for its use of a prop that actually serves a purpose and has something to do with the woman posing with it. Tara looks right at home with the motorcycle, and unlike most models you see posing with gigantic motorcycles on those magazine covers, she actually looks like she can ride it. The photos do a lot, from showing off Tara’s sick physique to the beautiful details on the motorcycle. I just wish there were more of them. I know, I know, I always make this complaint with TNA photoshoots, but I don’t think it would’ve hurt to give us a few more shots of that pretty motorcycle and its rider.

Eve Torres
Rarely does lying around make for a satisfying photoshoot, but Eve achieves that here. She sits on a blood red booth, surrounded by what looks like hockey memorabilia. It’s a bit of an unorthodox surrounding, and part of me think there’s something lacking from the shoot, but that just may be the disconnect in Eve wearing a fancy outfit to hang out with sports memorabilia. Speaking of her outfit, it and her hair work together for a beautifully sleek look and the criss-crosses on her skirt are hypnotizing, but not overwhelming, thanks to the limited color scheme. Her poses are varied, but simple–she mostly smiles and relaxes in the booth. It’s a bit of an odd shoot, altogether. Still, somehow, she pulls it off, looking quite casually beautiful.

Kaitlyn
The main point of interest in this shoot, for me, is Kaitlyn’s hair. It’s dyed in completely opposite tones and, though I’ve definitely seen this technique done badly, I like it on her. It gives her an edge that the blonde hair just wouldn’t do, and it certainly makes her stand out amongst the other WWE blondes. That’s something she can use, given that she’s yet to develop a character as a Diva. Not that she can build a character as “the girl with the duo-toned hair”, but it helps in this instance. Her dress, with the details on the shoulders, adds interest as well, but I think it’s a wee bit short, a few of the poses making me double-check to make sure she’s fully covered. Those poses, by and large, are not all that interesting, but I like that for at least one she pulled out something different, posing on her hands and knees, showing off her sculpted arms and curvy figure in a way that’s more intriguing for what it doesn’t show rather than what it does.

Maryse
Maryse looks like an evil queen straight out of a fairy tale, wearing a luxurious fur; long, sweeping hair; ornate jewelry; and smirking like she’s just poisoned Snow White. This is a perfect fit for Maryse, a heel who has every characterization of an evil queen: she’s self-obsessed, beautiful and intimidating. Her dress, which is decidedly unlike traditional fairy tale garb, clings to her and makes her look like a total badass, and I like the cutout at her shoulder–it’s a nice little detail. Her poses are in keeping with that haughty, evil vibe, and all thing considered, I think she looks more intimidating than alluring. But that’s not a bad thing–it’s unique and sets this shoot apart from the countless photoshoots where sexiness is the extent of their purpose. And anyways, I’m sure many of you (and her) still consider her to be the fairest one of all.

Mickie James
You can’t blame Mickie for wanting to pose with her newly-won Knockouts Title–it certainly took her long enough to win it. That long, hard-fought battle resulted in her first TNA championship, and to celebrate it, she’s taken part in a photoshoot, posing with it as if it were an entity in itself. Her poses are unique, lying beside it, crouching behind it, and hanging it behind her head. Some of the poses are more sexy than your usual title photoshoot–most show the champion basking in the glow of their victory, not making sexy faces at the camera. Still, the title compliments Mickie quite well, its colors echoing the same ones on her boots, jewelry and top. While I never really thought about matching one’s outfit to their title, it does make for interesting photos. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional on Mickie’s part, but I really wouldn’t blame her for doing that, given what she had to get through to finally claim ownership of that belt.

Winter
I’ve complained about the small number of photos that often amount to TNA photoshoots, and I’m again disappointed that we were only given four photos for this shoot. Winter looks fantastic, and her poses are eye-catching. She seems more personable than her screen persona could ever be, yet you can still sense that slightly quirky quality somewhere underneath. It’s odd to think that her WWE photoshoots displayed more quirkiness, yet her TNA persona is decidedly more strange. Still, maybe that could be simply because the photo selection is so slim that you’re not getting a true feel of her personality in them. In fact, my only complaint about this photoshoot is the scant number of photos, and I’m sure that’s something that’s entirely out of her power.

Alicia Fox
Alicia displays her ability to make a photoshoot interesting based merely on what she brings to the table: her look and poses. Her dress and matching shoes are vibrant and unique, the sleeves puffing out like some sort of bird’s defense mechanism. That’s not to say it’s not a good look on her–it is! It probably helps that the dress’s pattern looks somewhat like feathers and her hair is appropriately messy. Think of it like Natalie Portman in Black Swan, but she’s turning into a tropical bird instead of a swan. All bird references aside, Alicia pulls off the look with ease, and her poses are, as usual, a natural mixture of cute and sexy. A think a brighter setting–even a white studio background–would have better complimented this lively look. Still, Alicia does more than her fair share of the work in making this photoshoot pop.

Kelly Kelly
From one photoshoot the lacks any sort of setting to one that is practically alive with activity! Kelly poses in front of a interesting building and a gorgeous body of water, and her outfit is sleek, if decidedly un-touristy. The all-over black lessens the visual impact of the tied-up shirt and shredded jeans and makes them look pretty stylish instead of overdone. Her poses look less like a Diva posing in a photoshoot and more like a traveler taking photos for Facebook, but it would probably look strange if she was pulling out all the stops, don’t you think? I think Kelly does the right thing here, smiling, standing statuesquely and letting the scenery do the talking. This results in some really beautiful photos.

Rosa Mendes
Rosa is quite resourceful, making seating arrangements out of some equipment cases. It’s a less-than-stylish touch, but with her heavy-duty boots, it works. She uses the cases to pose in interesting ways and show off those aforementioned boots, so they certainly serve their purpose. The look, with the over-the-knee boots and her black and white printed dress, is almost mod, helped by the stark white background. Her blonde wavy hair only adds to that sentiment, making me think this photoshoot is actually a nod to the 60s, which gets points from me. A lot of the time when a Diva attempts to don a look from another decade it looks put-on and hoky. This look suits Rosa perfectly well–all she needs is some super heavy eye makeup and a more surly disposition.

Velvet Sky
Music is the theme of the hour here–Velvet is posing with drumsticks, drums and an electric guitar, all of it surprisingly color coordinated. There’s not much of a point to it aside from looking cool with musical instruments, and it has a sort of strange quality to it, like she’s selling these instruments inside a catalog. It’s kind of cheesy, especially with all the sexy faces she’s pulling in the photos and the wind whipping through her hair, but for an over-the-top photoshoot it’s well done–Velvet knows how to do sexy in an in-your-face way, and the grungy quality of most TNA photoshoots has rarely looked this cool. So, while I don’t love this shoot, I can’t help but think I’d absolutely hate this shoot if it was done by a Diva. I guess it has a lot to do with what constitutes a Knockout “look” and a Diva “look” and how those differ. Knockouts are less polished and primped, and the idea of one posing dramatically with an electric guitar just seems to fit a lot better.

Brie & Nikki Bella
Brie won the Divas Championship, but unfortunately that doesn’t merit a solo photoshoot with her newly-won gold. Instead, Nikki is by her side, and the Bellas are utilizing the title as if it’s another prop in one of their “play fight” photoshoots. They pose together with the belt, and it almost gives the impression that they’re sharing the title, Lay-Cool style. The only thing that clarifies the situation are the few photos in which Brie gets to pose with her belt by herself. It’s a standard title photoshoot, but I have to admit that the addition of Nikki spices it up a bit, but not as much as the aforementioned co-champs Laycool did, posing with their individual titles and congratulating each other mid-pose. It just looks like they stuck Nikki in there because they felt they had to, not in a way that communicated any character development. To do that, they could milk feelings of animosity or even make Brie the alpha-twin, and have Nikki showing admiration towards her. Still, the twin in me just can’t help but think that Brie might appreciate having something of her own for once. I mean, doesn’t being Divas Champion merit treating her with some individuality?

Gail Kim
A ring gear photoshoot can easily be dull, but Gail knows exactly how to grab interest: through poses and a eye-catching choice of ring gear. The blue outfit is gorgeous, and is probably my favorite incarnation of her gear. Her poses are diverse and show off the gear well. It’s remarkable how a shoot that’s 100% smiley and happy (as many babyface shoots are) can come across so interesting. It’s a testament to Gail’s creativity, because she manages to mix up her poses in natural, interesting ways that don’t feel hokey. This is how a ring gear shoot should be pulled off: showcasing the outfit through simple, natural and interesting poses. She doesn’t overdo it, but she’s obviously put a good deal of effort into making the photoshoot special. It’s about charming the viewer, but that doesn’t always mean looking as sexy or mysterious as possible. Sometimes, like here, it just means making this whole posing business look effortless.

Michelle McCool
A backless dress and over-the-knee boots would overwhelm most Divas, but the statuesque Michelle pulls both off nicely. While the cutout in the back is interesting, the front of the dress is just as eye-catching. The pattern is really detailed, but its coloring keeps it from being too much. Michelle’s wild hair adds to the statement-making, often being tossed over a shoulder to give a better look at the back of the dress. Her poses seem to cater to it, from posing backwards in a chair to twisting around and looking back at the camera. It could look awkward, but its a testament to how far Michelle’s come, pose-wise, that it looks almost natural. She’s certainly got a fierce-ness to her now.

Natalya
We all know how much Natalya favors the color pink, but I can appreciate how she manages to mix it up a bit, going for different shades. Here she’s sporting a pale pink strapless top, which is quite detailed and looks great on her from the waist up. I can’t help but think, though, that a longer bottom (skirt or otherwise) would have complemented it better, allowing the top to take center stage. Instead, she’s showing a lot of leg and the two are competing for attention. It’s just not as sleek as it could be. I’m guessing with the blazer that we see in the third photo, the look would be more pulled together. Her poses are natural and smiley, with a bit of mystery thrown in here and there. It’s a good babyface shoot, but the overall cheeriness of it reminds me, in a roundabout way, of her more eccentric heel poses. I wonder if we’ll be seeing that evil laugh again anytime soon..

Rosita
TNA and their habit of posting miniscule photoshoots annoys me, but I couldn’t let this one pass by. Though consisting of only three photos, this shoot marks Rosita’s first in her ring gear which is, appropriately, rose red. The colors are nice, even though their placement kind of screams, “Look at my boobs!”. The “Rosita” on her butt isn’t any more subtle, but I love the rose printed on the hip. That personal touch is perfect, especially considering how most Divas’ or Knockouts’ ring attire are solid colors without real personalization involved aside from a signature cut. Her poses serve to show off the gear, which is fine with me–when you only get three pictures to show your stuff, there’s not much you can expect, variety-wise–still, Rosita manages to create some interesting photos with what she’s given.

Sarita & Rosita
Posing alongside fellow Mexican America members Hernandez and Anarquia, Sarita and Rosita attempt to pull off a coherent photoshoot, and come up with some interesting shots. Lord knows how awkward a photoshoot can be when there’s four people involved, so I admire them for doing as well as they did. Granted, it’s not that great–they hold hands and crouch on either side of the shot, fold their arms and lean against their stable-mates, and otherwise look serious and tough. Their clothing isn’t the greatest either, being all tight and shiny and not well coordinated, but I suppose I should be thankful they look better than the guys, who are mugging for the camera with their shades on and showing off their Superman undies. Still, I’m sure this could have gone a lot worse, given all the moving parts involved. I just won’t be waiting with baited breath for the next Mexican America photoshoot.

Snooki
So she’s not an actual Diva, a photoshoot’s a photoshoot! And her honorary Diva status counts for something, I suppose. Snooki’s first (and I’m assuming last) WWE photoshoot features the outfit she wore on her first WWE appearance, which isn’t all that bad considering the clothes she’s worn on The Jersey Shore. It’s actually pretty well put together, even if her jacket’s in danger of completely hiding her shorts. The poses are cheesy, but that’s a good thing. A sincere Snooki photoshoot wouldn’t be worth much, but one with puckered lips and pointing is entertaining, if not really the makings of a stellar photoshoot. Clearly, the Snooki persona is carefully crafted character, whether in the WWE or not, and we’re seeing her in these photos. I’m just so glad that we weren’t treated to any fist-pumps.

Brie & Nikki Bella
To match their attitudes, the Bellas are wearing black dresses. To show a slight difference in personality, their styles are different: Nikki’s sporting a tighter dress, messy hair and leopard print tights while Brie’s dress has a fuller, frillier skirt and her tights are solid. It shows that they’ve put some thought into their outfits and I like that. After all, they don’t have to be clones of each other, even if they are both heels. Their poses are more serious and seductive, and it makes the photos look much less staged–I think I’m so used to them doing cutesy twin poses that I’m surprised at how interesting a photo with them just standing next to each other can be. They let their personalities show. When I’ve complained about their more gimmicky photoshoots, this was what I was asking for: simplicity. Here, the Bellas show that they’re more than capable of making ‘simple’ look interesting.

Kaitlyn
Kaitlyn looks perfectly relaxed and comfortable in her poses, but perhaps too comfortable. They’re not very diverse, and make for a rather dull photoshoot. Wearing a frilly top and leopard print skirt was probably an effort to bring interest to the shoot, but it’s not enough. There’s just an obvious lack of personality in the photos, and while that may be due to the fact that Kaitlyn hasn’t really developed a character, this photoshoot is just rather lifeless. It reminds me of the early photoshoots from Kaitlyn’s fellow NXT rookies: pretty, but boring. I know she’s capable of pulling off interesting shoots, because her first full WWE photoshoot as a Diva had me hooked. This one must be her sophomore slump.

Rosa Mendes
Rosa looks like she’s modeling for a Nike catalog, clad in stylish active wear and posing with weights. It’s cute, and her fun poses really do look like something from a catalog. While that distinction is not always a good thing in terms of WWE photoshoots, I don’t think this outfit could have been pulled off in any other way. It’s really fun, and while Rosa is demonstrating an ability to sell breathable fabrics, it’s the Diva in her that brings interest to the photos. She has a personality that pulls off a shoot like this–a more serious Diva would look cheesy lifting a barbell, but Rosa has just the right amount of seriousness and silliness in her to make this photoshoot work.

Alicia Fox
This is kind of reminiscent of Alicia’s earliest shoots, where she was more “hippie chick” than serious and sleek. The headband, denim shorts, tank top and the furry moccasin-like boots look good on her, even if the style was more relevant back when Alicia first sported the look. And, for as many girls who have tried this kind of look, Alicia pulls it off the best. She’s got an easy, carefree way of posing that doesn’t seem stilted or pretentious, and her athletic body type is well flattered. It seems like she’s trying to replicate those old shoots in her poses, yet sticking in some of her heel attitude to make it more current. She even manages to make the peace sign, used to death by teenaged girls everywhere, look interesting in draping it over her head. It’s little touches like that that make what could be a “been there, done that” kind of photoshoot something new and interesting.

Kelly Kelly
The champagne color on her top and shoes look fantastic on her, but the white denim shorts are too destroyed for a look like this. The bits of hanging denim would be better suited to a more casual look, and clash with the dressier top and heels. In many of the poses, however, you can’t tell that someone took a par of scissors to them, because when she’s laying on the equipment trunk, it’s well hidden. I like the poses where she looks genuinely relaxed, though they’re few and far between. That’s not to say that Kelly looks unnatural, but it’s always nice to see her mix it up and not giving her usual grin. It adds some depth to the poses when they don’t have the same bright smile–there’s more mystery in it. Though, as we’ve seen, Kelly loves to smile, and to ask her to part with her smile would be like asking Lay-Cool to stop being attached at the hip.

Lay-Cool
Another in a storied line of Lay-Cool photoshoots that serve to mock their foes, Michelle and Layla have decided to don a look many people wore last Halloween, dressing in their best Snooki costumes. Layla makes for the most convincing Snooki, as she has dark hair that can easily be made to resemble the recognizable hair bump. Michelle’s outfit, though, looks more like something Snooki would wear: a snakeskin tube top dress, gaudy earrings and over-the-top makeup. Both are wearing silly slippers: Layla with Smufette, Michelle with Oscar the Grouch. Their poses mock The Jersey Shore‘s cast equally, with fist pump, peace signs, and puckered lips aplenty. While it’s not the best Snooki impression (SNL’s one is probably one of the best), it’s really funny to see in photoshoot form, and Lay-Cool’s best qualities–humor and cattiness–are on full display here, and I love it.

Melina
Melina seems to have a instinct for picking interesting locales for her photoshoot, and here she splits the shoot between a dark corner of the arena and the side of a busy street. It fits her outfit, with is dark and slightly grungy, and I like this better than a similar look she sported in a photoshoot a while back, where she wore a cut-up gray t-shirt and tights underneath. This look is more sleek. Of the shoot’s locations, I have to say I prefer the ones in the arena, as it give her more stuff to play with, and she looks considerably less likely to be struck by a passing car. Posing with a ladder and steel chairs, she makes it look more natural than it should, and while she’s not going for the full heel grimace, she has a more serious attitude on display that wasn’t present when she was a babyface. It’s even a far cry from her early heel shoots, where she would look haughty and put her hands on her hips–this heel Melina is more mature, and has discovered more subtlety in the art of looking holier-than-thou.

Rosita
In her sophomore photoshoot, Rosita has already caved to the inevitable Rosita/rose connection, as she is posing with a long-stemmed rose and quite a few rose petals. The rose in her hair and the red top skate the line of overkill, causing the shoot to look too much like a leftover Valentine’s day photoshoot. I think a more subtle outfit and more practical setting would have made the shoot feel more natural. Still Rosita’s presence saves the shoot from going too over-the-top. She looks easy-going, not try-hard like a girl in a late night commercial for a 1-800 line. While it’s not a great shoot, at least the rose connection has been done, and Rosita can move on to less cheesy photoshoots.

Gail Kim
I’ve always found that outfits that might look a little trashy on some Divas manage to work with Gail. This obviously has a lot to do with her smaller frame, so certain skimpy outfits don’t look as revealing on her. Here, Gail’s wearing a tiny black halter top, black pleather hot pants and some intense accessories in the form of her heels and forearm-devouring bracelet. With the color scheme consisting entirely of black, even down to her hair, the look is very sleek and almost super spy-esque. She wears it well, and her poses are diverse and interesting, though I think, in keeping with the look, Gail probably could have been a bit more mysterious and serious in some of them. In two photos, she gets that mood perfectly right, and I think a photoshoot full of that would have been a nice departure and a full transformation from the smiley babyface Gail is right now.

Maryse
Maryse’s super-long hair isn’t enough to distract us from her dress, which is detailed quite nicely around the neck. Her bracelets, with equal detail, compete with that as areas of interest, and I can’t help but think choosing one (namely the one on her left arm) would have made for a less cluttered look. She’s posing against a wall and garage door, which don’t exactly fit with her look, and while it adds interest more than a regular studio background would, the result is a shoot that looks a bit mismatched. She evens looks a bit cheerier than usual, and I find myself appreciating the typical sultry poses a bit more–the devious look is more natural on her.

Tamina
It doesn’t look like Tamina’s quite settled into the photoshoot thing just yet–she still looks a bit stilted, not natural. Of course, practically every Diva (namely the ones without modeling backgrounds) goes through this phase at first. Here, Tamina’s wearing a brown dress, while a bit plain for a photoshoot, looks good on her and fits her persona, which isn’t exactly flashy. The poses show the hallmarks of the photoshoot newbie–hands on hips in most of them–a while she looks beautiful smiling, its the more serious looks that are the best. It’s a basic and rahter unremarkable shoot, but it shows promise, and hopefully Tamina takes the best parts of it and works on them until she blossoms into a photoshoot pro.

SoCal Val & Tara
If the WWE has the market cornered on serious, sexy holiday-themed photoshoots, TNA’s talent is making quirky, entertaining ones. Here is a perfect example of that: Tara and SoCal Val, two Knockouts who aren’t strangers to getting goofy in these kinds of shoots, are dressed up in green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day and are covered in lipstick kisses. It’s a cute, creative photoshoot (better than, say, wearing green tops and posing with four leaf clovers) and displays the personality of these two Knockouts. I always like when photoshoots are fun and go outside the box, and this one achieves both. Here’s hoping for a Easter-themed shoot with these two–bunny ears and buck teeth, anyone?

Beth Phoenix
She’s inexplicably paired with a ladder, but somehow Beth makes it look like it belongs there. Is it her tough, muscle-bearing outfit or the fact that she’s posing with it as a natural set piece rather than looking like she’s selling it like a “The Price is Right” girl? I think it’s a bit of both. While the poses here are rather limited and basic, I feel that a few of them show her true, natural “Glamazon” presence, with her posed statuesquely against the ladder. I’ve never been a fan of the “toss in a prop” method of planning a photoshoot, but Beth makes it work. I think it helps that she isn’t using it for a cheap “sexy” touch, as is the purpose of most Diva and Knockout photoshoot props.

Eve Torres
Eve’s sporting a super cute dress that’s so colorful you almost expect to see rainbows shooting out of it. It’s a nice kind of colorful, though; not the assault-on-the-eyes type. The pattern is unique, and makes it look like Eve’s swishing the dress when she’s not, which makes for a interesting effect and spices up what could have been yet another studio shoot with that bloody white background. The dress looks great on Eve, and her poses keep up the fun and springy theme that the frock started. She sells it well, looking genuinely happy and care-free instead of plastering on a perma-grin. The fair weather might be the cause of her happiness, but I’m choosing to believe that it’s the dress that’s fueling her cheeriness–it certainly makes me smile.

Michelle McCool
Lay-Cool aren’t exactly ice queens–their love for running their mouths works against having such personalities–but Michelle is putting on quite the “holier than thou” ‘tude in this shoot. She’s lounging around in the locker room and not–Hallelujah!–in front of a blank background, which makes it all the more interesting to look at. Her outfit is dark, studded and accessorized to an extreme, but amazingly it all sort of works together. You’d think with so many extra pieces thrown in the look would overwhelm Michelle, but she absolutely works it. She looks both tough and sexy without heading into the cliche “biker girl” area that is so easy to stumble into when you’re wearing so much black leather. Maybe the fact that she’s lounging on a couch instead of standing makes the outfit look less overwhelming; over-the-knee boots definitely aren’t as intimidating when your legs are partially obscured. Michelle looks fantastic and actually looks like she’s ballsy enough to brawl with just about anyone–something you typically wouldn’t say about her and Layla. Behold, the power of well-styled leather!

Rosita
It’s Rosita’s first photoshoot! In rather typical TNA fashion, Rosita is posing in front of a stark white background and has nothing but her style and poses to win over the viewers. The tank top and white pants aren’t outstanding, but they flatter her quite well. The angle of some of the shots add interest too, with the perspective kind of tilted. Rosita’s poses are standard, but its her face that pulls you in–a simple smirk or smile is somehow captivating because of her beauty. I think that talent will come in handy in the future when she takes part in more of these shoots where the supporting act (the setting) is pretty much non-existant. It’s not a terribly exciting photoshoot, but it’s a promising start for the new Knockout.

Tara
I’d hardly call two photos a photoshoot, but I can’t resist taking a look at some new Tara photos–they’ve always got some sort of spunk to them. Here, Tara’s wearing a unique combination of things: a white top, black pants and a unique, corset-looking black belt around her midsection. I’m not quite sure what to make of it, except to say that it would probably look better over one piece instead of a shirt-and-pants combo, since it’s mimicking that corset look so many gowns featured centuries ago. Tara is going full sexpot with her poses here, even to the point of pulling a peek-a-boo move with her bra. It could so easily look cheesy, but Tara treads that line, owing a lot to her natural presence; she is so comfortable in photoshoots that she could never come across as “cheesecake”. All that considered, though, this isn’t one of her better shoots. Maybe if TNA gave us a few more photos (at least more than two!!), I’d have a better chance of warming up to it.

The Look: Layla’s got a few layers on, wearing her Lay-Cool hood at times over her ring gear. The style of her gear, with its side cut-out, single shoulder strap, and multiple arm bands can easily look overwhelming in more daring colors, but this deep red and black is perfect. It’s sleek, and pulls it all together rather than looking like she’s piled on a ton of accessories. The Lay-Cool hood looks especially cool, looking almost like a corset around her middle and turning into to a vivacious shade of red at the top. It looks like a legitimate top when she wears it zipped up, and for being such a eccentric clothing item, it blends in well with her gear. Of course, the word “FAMOUS” written down her forearm and “LAY-COOL” being emblazoned on the hood, readily readable across her forehead, are appropriately self-serving touches for one-half of the most conceited duo in the WWE. It’s unique gear that looks fantastic on her.

The Poses: Layla does well to show off all the elements of her outfit, from the hood to the arm bands to the detailed gear below. She does it stylishly as well, with interesting poses. For ring gear shoots, I like to see Divas show off the gear in inconspicuous ways, and Layla pulls that off here. It’s not flashy, but still not boring, as some ring gear shoots can be. Layla’s photoshoot experience shows here, because she very easily sells the outfit and exudes her heel persona in a few simple poses. Fittingly, she looks confident, cool, and sexy.

Originality: Ring gear studio shoots are nothing new, but I always enjoy seeing more detailed and interesting gear up close. Layla’s gear is interesting enough to make me forget that she’s posing in front of a blah white background, and her posing ability makes it stand out–it feels like she’s modeling couture rather than wrestling gear, and not many Divas could manage that.

Overall: Layla’s ring gear can be hit-or-miss, but this variation of it is to die for, from the colors to the stylish Lay-Cool hood. Her posing is fantastic, as usual, and serves to show off the gear in the most flattering way possible. She’s managed to turn a rather standard photoshoot into something quite intriguing. Rating: 4/5

The Look: The Bellas are dressed identically, save for different jewelry and shoes. While usually I find that move a bit silly or gimmicky for grown women to do (think Hugh Heffner’s twin girlfriends), this outfit is so simple that it works–it’s not like they’re wearing matching lime green pants and pink tops. The black tube top and jeans are simple enough that the outfits look fine next to one another, and it’s interesting to the little differences, such as the way they style their jeans: one cuffed, the other not. If one Diva were to wear this outfit for a photoshoot, it might feel like it lacks something, but with the Bella magic (i.e., multiplying it by 2), it’s solid.

The Poses: The Bellas frequently do gimmicky photoshoots–I guess with all these tandem shoots, they feel they need to do something to mix things up. It’s cheesy, but it’s a Bella trademark, so they probably won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Here, they’ve got a camera and are snapping phantom pictures of each other, resulting in some silly poses. As in their third Bella Bowl shoot, when a prop gets tossed in, it will eventually lead to jostling and play-fighting, and we see that here, albeit to better results. Most are cute, such as the ones where they pose for each other and fight for the camera, and it’s interesting to see their attitude change a bit to fit their new heel personae–you can sense a new “bad girl” aura coming from the pictures. Altogether it’s a cheesy, harmless photoshoot; the Bellas seem to have become masters at that.

Originality: Even Melina, the Diva with a paparazzi gimmick, never posed with an actual camera in-shot, so the Bellas are definitely trying something new with this. It makes for interesting shots, especially when they can play off each other in new ways. The give-the-Bellas-a-prop trick has been done time and time again, but I think this one’s the best one yet. The camera offers more to the shoot: they can take pictures and pose for each other instead of just fighting over some silly thing like a tiny foam football. It also allows the Bellas to play off their heel gimmick, basking in a new-found sense of narcissism.

Overall: It’s cheesy and the outfits are simple, but it’s a Bella shoot whose gimmick I actually find a bit charming, so that’s got to count for something. Rating: 3/5

The Look: Natalya seems to have a knack for flattering her body while keeping it classy, and this outfit is no different–it hugs her curves and shows a lot of leg, but the high neckline and long sleeves balance out the skin exposure. The dress, which is pretty much a layer of black lace on top of a nude tube dress, looks amazing on her. The see-through elements show just enough, and while a not-quite-skin-tone second layer could look tacky or out of place, it works here, probably because it’s clear she’s not trying to fool us into thinking that that layer is her skin. In fact, it looks like a taupe color, which neither clashes with the color of her skin or the style of the lace on top. The fact that she keeps everything else simple, makeup and accessory-wise, helps a great deal. That is, of course, not counting her pink highlights, which absolutely pop and compliment the look in an unexpected way. I’m sure a few would tut-tut at the bottom layer peeking out of the bottom of the dress, looking like an exposed slip, but it doesn’t really bother me too much.

The Poses: Usually in Natalya’s photoshoots we get a mix sexy, sweet, and quirky. Here, she’s tossed out most of the quirkiness, and I think that’s probably for the best. This outfit creates a mood better suited for serious poses, and Natalya pulls off a few good ones, giving a smoldering glance over her shoulder and rustling her hair with her hand. I also like the pose with both hands on either side of her head–it’s cute, and provides a small dash of that Natalya quirk. Aside from that, it’s rather typical, and the fact that it’s a studio shoot with a white background doesn’t add much more interest. Maybe a background in a different neutral color would have made the more conventional poses pop a little better.

Originality: A studio shoot with a white background is about as plain as you can get with WWE.com photoshoots, so there’s not much originality in the setting. Natalya, though, gives the shoot life with her eye-catching dress and charm, which are unique in themselves.

Overall: While Natalya has had more interesting photoshoots in terms of setting and poses, the dress is a jaw-dropper. She looks truly fantastic. Rating: 3.5/5

The Look: Rosa must have an infatuation with the color white, because she’s banished every other hue of the rainbow from her wardrobe for this photoshoot. For a Diva that has been known for her colorful ensembles, this can either be an interesting change or a lackluster one. For me, I’m not too big on single-color outfits, save for black, and a color as stark as white just looks jarring when it’s on three separate pieces. These pieces, by the way, don’t seem to work together either, despite their matching hues. The sleeveless, vest-like crop top paired with matching shorts looks more like an outfit more suitable for the tennis court than a photoshoot, and the white heels make it feel even more mismatched. While white certainly looks good on Rosa, especially with her pretty shade of blonde hair, I can’t help but think she went a little overboard with it here, deciding to put together an outfit based on color rather than the actual suitableness of the pieces.

The Poses: The poses are rather standard: hands up, hands on hips, hands playing with her hair. It fits the simplicity of the color scheme that she’s so mellow in this shoot, opting to look sweet and friendly instead of seductive and serious–seducing the camera in this outfit might seem a little out of place. I have to admit, though, that it all comes across as a bit dull, what with the neutral background, neutral-colored clothing, and ever-present smirk. There’s just no spice to be seen anywhere in this photoshoot.

Originality: Like I said, there’s no spice–nothing to really set this shoot apart. The studio setting is simple, the poses are simple, and her clothing is so simple that it’s all in one color. She practically blends into the background, with her one saving grace being the personality she lets shine through in a few photos–the ones used in this post’s header graphic, to be specific. Compared with the more captivating photoshoots Rosa has had, this one just doesn’t stand out.

Overall: This photoshoot desperately needed a little spark, and there was little to be seen. I know Rosa’s capable of pulling off more interesting photoshoots–her past shoots are evidence of that. Here, there was just nothing to write home about. Rating: 2/5

Alicia Fox‘s photoshoots have long been Diva Dirt favorites, so imagine our glee when we see a new one pop up today! Does it meet our expectations?

The Look: Despite the fact that her dress is tight and tiny, Alicia looks more cute to me than sexy, and that’s not a bad thing at all. Some Divas’ idea of cute is dressing like a pre-pubescent girl (pigtails, tiny skirts), so Alicia gets major points for pulling off a fun, yet age-appropriate look. The dress, in a bright floral pattern, looks gorgeous, and paired with her slightly tousled wavy hair (which signals that this is an older shoot, given the absence of its current red shade), gives her an easygoing, natural look. I love it.

The Poses: Alicia poses with the ever-present equipment trunk, this time in a lively shade of purple. It makes me wonder if they decided, since they make such frequent appearances in Diva photoshoots, the trunks should be painted “pretty” (expect painted-on animal print next!). I’m not complaining, though, because the color fits in well with the bright hues on her dress and keeps up the colorful spring theme. Her poses include a lot of the usual lounging and smiling, but a few, namely the ones where she’s looking off-camera, stand out. Alicia exudes such a natural easy-going personality in her photos that shots like those, which may look like silly attempts at glamour shots with other Divas, come off as spontaneous and interesting. Heck, she’s so good at it that even the most plain poses jump off the screen, and this shoot is no expection.

Originality: The pose-on-a-trunk studio photoshoots are nothing new–practically every Diva’s done at least one. Alicia’s charm helps give the concept a much-needed spark, and the colorful shade of the trunk is certainly new, so it’s not a case of “same old, same old”. Still, I wouldn’t mourn the loss if the Divas found a new inanimate object to share their photoshoots with.

Overall: Alicia’s style and (non-kayfabe) personality are shining through in this shoot–it’s fun, easygoing, and pretty. It’s not groundbreaking or captivating, but not every photoshoot needs to be. Sometimes the simpler shoots are the best, depending on the ability of the Diva to make it interesting, and this shoot illustrates that point–it’s all thanks to Alicia that this photoshoot has life. Rating: 4/5

NXT Season 3 winner Kaitlyn is finally emerging in the “big time” SmackDown, so it’s fitting that this week she’s premiered her first official photoshoot as a Diva. It may look familiar to you (actually it should look familiar), since photos from the studio portion of the shoot were released at the beginning of her NXT run. However, there’s still enough new stuff to unwrap..

The Look: Okay, so this outfit is nothing new–it dates back to the NXT rookies’ first photoshoots, so your reaction’s down to whether you liked it or not way back then. In terms of wrestling gear, I like it–it’s tough, with its black leather top and boots, but it’s cut the right way to fulfill the sexiness quota it seems like every Diva’s gear has to reach. Not to mention, it highlights her two most flattering features: her sculpted arms and legs. This gives Kaitlyn her own signature look, with the top and shorts being the base of it. I like this shoot’s version a lot more than some of her other variations of the look–I wasn’t a fan of the denim and cheetah print one. The black and dark camouflage print looks a lot sleeker, and I have to say the camo shorts are a lot more flattering than those skin-tight, ovary-crushing denim shorts.

The Poses: Kaitlyn exudes a calm, confident manner throughout the entire shoot, her poses relaxed. I like it, as it feels real and not as put-on as the more smiley, happy poses other Divas may utilize. Her poses next to the steel beam are particularly interesting. While these poses aren’t all that different from the ones from her other shoots, you have to consider that they were all probably taken around the same time, when she wasn’t exactly in the flow of WWE photoshoots yet. Even so, I really like the feel of this photoshoot.

Originality: The studio photos are pretty much repeats of every posed photo we’ve seen of her so far, but the shots in that abandoned-looking building are a lot more interesting. The setting is unique, and though you can spot photoshoot equipment at the right side of the 10th shot (d’oh!), the shots are composed pretty well. Most Divas don’t really mesh well with the more “gritty” settings, and those shoots end up coming across as phony, but Kaitlyn, with her tough wardrobe and self-assured poses, fits. It gives me confidence that her future shoots will do an even better job demonstrating that uniqueness.

Overall: Sure, a portion of it is recycled, more or less, but all together this photoshoot shows a lot of promise for Kaitlyn. It doesn’t reek of “amateur” as we’ve seen with many Divas’ first photoshoots. She’s got her own unique attitude and style, and it’s got me looking forward to her future shoots. Rating: 4/5

Bella Bowl III is here! Yes, this is the third time the Bellas have donned the colors of the opposing Super Bowl teams for a tandem photoshoot. Part sexy, part cheesy, this photoshoot has become a bit of a tradition. So, how does this shoot stand up to the previous two?

The Look: Compared to the first two Bella Bowl shoots (2009 here, 2010 here), there seems to be less of an effort put into making their outfits look like uniforms. The very first Bella Bowl had the full treatment: team t-shirts, matching athletic pants, athletic gloves, and eye black. The second went a little more matchy-matchy, with similarly altered t-shirts and matching heels. The third and most recent shoot finds the Bellas in cut up, off-the-shoulder t-shirts, booty shorts, skull caps (which are super cute), socks, and high heels. The look has gone front quasi-athletic to just an excuse to make the Bellas look sexy with some NFL logos slapped on their chests. Yes, the look is sexy, but it’s cliche. The looks, when they better resembled the NFL uniforms, came off as an effort to make in interesting football-themed photoshoot, and it was fun. Here, it looks more like an ad for some local sports bar’s “Super Bowl night”. It’s less polished and too cheeky.

The Poses: All of these shoots have done the same thing, more or less–have Brie and Nikki faux-fight, symbolizing the two teams’ gridiron battle. This involves a lot of hands shoved in faces and poses with tiny footballs. These are always interesting shoots in that respect–they’re more lively than the usual photoshoots, and you can tell Brie and Nikki are having fun with it. This year, I really enjoy the shots with the Steelers’ “terrible towel”–the pose with Brie standing on the towel is particularly funny. It’s not as randomly entertaining as the “beer cap” in last year’s shoot, but it definitely spices up the shoot. However, I get the feeling that they’re kind of getting away from the fun aspects and are getting too concerned with mugging sexily for the camera. It makes more some awkward-looking shots–jostling for the football while making sexy faces at the camera? Hm..

Originality: These shoots always stand out, and I enjoy them for the change of pace they offer. While the concept of sexy girls wearing sports clothing is one almost as old as sports itself, the WWE doesn’t do it too often, so it’s not exactly overdone.

Overall: Compared to the past two Bella Bowl shoots, I think this one falls short. It’s less fun, almost too concerned with turning on fans than entertaining them with silly football poses. That silliness is one of the main things I enjoyed about these annual shoots–the Bellas would let loose, so to speak. There’s plenty of other chances during the year to look uber-sexy–the Bella Bowl shoots are supposed to be fun! This shoot doesn’t match up to the liveliness of the last two, and it just isn’t as interesting. Rating: 2.5/5

It seems like it’s been forever since Melina has had a published photoshoot. It’s been so long, in fact, that her latest shoot featured her posing with her long-lost Divas Championship, which, by the way, she lost in September. It’s a shame, because Melina’s photoshoots usually have a pizzaz to them, a certain spark that tells you that she’s always trying something new, whether through it’s a pose or a clothing choice. Does this new shoot deliver that same feeling? Let’s see:

The Look: If Melina’s got a “theme”, wardrobe-wise, it’s animalistic. Whether that’s shown through furry boots or all-over animal print, it’s usually present in some form or another. Here, she’s donning a turquoise and brown dress with a smattering of cheetah print, paired with brown over-the-knee suede boots and a curly mane of hair. Yep, this is Melina to a T. The outfit is flattering and sexy without showing too much: exposing her back instead of her chest is a lot more alluring, in my opinion. She works the outfit well.

The Poses: The poses and setting are interesting; half-hidden in shadow, Melina looks mysterious and sexy, and the photos manage to make (what looks like) a garage door look artistic, which is a feat in itself. Melina mixes up her poses and relies on a few old tricks (the “hand up” pose), which make for some really interesting photos; most are intriguing rather than cheeky. The exception to that, of course, would be two of the poses on the trunk (you know which ones I’m referring to). Let’s just say that if the cameraman worked for TMZ instead of the WWE and caught Melina in those poses, we’d be seeing almost as much of he as we’ve seen of Paris Hilton in the mere act of getting out of a car. For the most part, I appreciate the relative simplicity of the shoot and how she managed to pull a lot of sexiness out of just lighting and facial expressions.

Originality: The lighting, with the shadows enveloping part of Melina, are certainly different from the brightly lit studio photos we’ve seen from her lately, giving the photoshoot an intimate feel that makes it stand out. It’s not dramatically different from other Melina shoots, but a few tweaks (the lighting, the placement of her arms) are enough to make this shoot feel unique.

Overall: I really like it. It’s purely Melina, from the animal-print dress to the high-heeled boots to the relaxed poses. I like when a photoshoot reflects a Diva’s personality and style so clearly while mixing things up enough to ensure that it doesn’t feel like we’ve seen it a hundred times before. This photoshoot accomplishes that completely. Rating: 4.5/5

Savannah’s Blue in Green

Grade: Sweet. This week in “Savannah Poses with Furniture” is actually an upgrade from last week’s shoot.  The color and shape of the dress compliment Savannah quite nicely.  Also, there appears to be a wider range of facial expressions and poses.  While there is always room for improvement, there’s no denying that Savannah comes out on top in this photoshoot.

Natalya’s Hart-Shaped

Grade: Bland. Unlike Savannah, Natalya has failed to break out of her mold this week.  She receives a bland grade for generally the same reason as last week: lack of variety.  There’s no doubting that Natalya can perpetually rep the Hart colors like no other.  However, given last week’s location, perhaps she could’ve used a different outlet to show her Canadian pride.  Preferably, one that doesn’t involve the typical shades of black and pink.  Nevertheless, the poses in this shoot are hackneyed.  It appears as if Natalya has taken steps back to her first Diva days behind the camera.

Tiffany’s Green Light

Grade: Bland. Once again, WWE’s love affair with airbrushing rears its ugly head.  It appears that the Divas who are the least deserving of Photoshop are usually photoshopped the most.  In Tiffany’s case, it has become standard procedure to airbrush the Smackdown Diva until she’s barely recognizable.  Unfortunately, Tiffany has not only this disadvantage working against her.  The shapeless cut and the gradient effect of the dress are unflattering.  It gives off the illusion that she’s modeling a smock, and not even in an ironically-artistic way.

Beth Phoenix’s Lady in Red
Grade: Sweet.  Beth Phoenix may have had a short stint as the current reigning Women’s Champion, but at least she left a pretty decent photshoot in her wake!  This attire is possibly the most appealing Beth has in her repertoire.  Luckily, the red-and-black combination photographs just as well as it looks on television.  A couple of the poses are more imaginative than your typical stone-faced vogue-ing.  These bits of playfulness and cheerfulness show a different (and more pleasant) side to the Glamazon.

Natalya’s Change of Hart Grade: Bland. The title of this photoshoot may serve to be ironic as there appears to be little to no variety between Natalya’s photos.  This is your typical series featuring Natalya donning her Hart badge of honor.  It is not quite ‘sour’ as she earns points for consistency (not to mention color coordination)!  However, what Natalya’s portfolio could use is a little less pink and a little bit more imagination.

Savannah’s Rockin’ Chair
Grade: Bland. Yet another Diva lacking alternatives is none other than NXT’s Savannah.  WWE seems to be fond of bland backgrounds and Divas leaning on furniture.  Unfortunately, this is Savannah’s third strike!  There’s only so much one Diva can do with a chair and a limited palette of facial expressions.  Savannah looks presentable, but WWE’s lack of creativity is too stifling to pass for ‘sweet.’

Eve Torres’s Eve-n Flow
Grade: Sour. This trend of depicting Divas in greyscale leaves much to be desired.  The use of greyscale here reads bland because it lacks contrast.  The desire to be artistic can be admired, but the objective of this photoshoot is unclear.  The total disregard for shade levels leaves Eve looking “washed out” rather than “knockout.”

Angelina Love‘s Twisted Steel
Grade: Sour. Angelina Love, in her trademark trashy ring attire here posing backstage at the Impact Zone. I like this bright blue but seriously, Angelina’s ring attire is far too complicated and perplexing for anything to stand out. I mean just look at the top — you have blue, then you have animal print and then you have a black sequined boob tube. Good lord. The backgrounds in these shots provides an interesting contrast but honestly, it just looks odd and not nearly as abstract as it should.

Chelsea‘s Could It Be Magic?
Grade: Sour. Poor Bellas, always stuck with the lame outfits to placate that week’s Raw guest host. This photoshoot is hilariously silly with Brie and Nikki in PVC magician’s assistant outfits. I don’t know about you but these just look like bondage outfits to me with hats and wands thrown in. Very PG!

Chelsea‘s Inner Animal
Grade: Sweet. TNA newcomer, Chelsea is looking pretty stylish in this outfit. I’m not usually an animal print fan but I think it works here with the contrast of the black top. I particularly like the bangles pushed up her arm, providing some simple yet effective accessorizing and also the detailing around the bottom of the top. The poses are fairly simple but I think it works.

Gail Kim‘s Sleek & Sexy
Grade: Sweet. Here is Gail looking really laid back, simple but super stylish. I love the simplicity of this outfit but everything fits together and comes together beautifully. The black tank, the ruched skirt and the high waisted belt are all great together. The red shoes add a little colour to the outfit too. Her hair and earrings also sell this one. Gail seems more confident in her posing with her selling the outfit rather than trying to be overtly sexy too.

Kelly Kelly‘ Day & Night
Grade: Bland. This is a very interesting outfit and it could be edgy if it weren’t for Kelly’s boring poses. The top with a somewhat transluscent back is quite sexy and revealing but not too much. I think even without much colour, this dress just pops and looks great but it needs to be sold by the girl wearing it which Kelly just doesn’t do. She just looks like a pretty girl in an edgy outfit that she just can’t do justice because she doesn’t have the personality to pull it off — her eyes are deadpan, her poses are cliched. This could have been a great photoshoot but I don’t see much personality from Kelly.

Maryse‘s No Frills
Grade: Bland. What immediately strikes me about this photoshoot is just how unflattering this dress is on Maryse. The flowers or whatever they are around the chest just look like frills that you’d find on an old lady’s blouse. Maryse’s boobs don’t look magnificent here; they just look huge and protruding and I don’t think Maryse is wearing a bra, they just look like they’re hanging out and not perfectly in place. You can show your off your bust in a sexy, tasteful way but this just looks like she has two rocks sitting on her chest weighing her down. I like Maryse’s poses but most of these facial expressions are unflattering and I definitely see some Photoshopping on her face.

Michelle McCool‘s Rock Siren
Grade: Sweet. Michelle McCool really can pull most looks off and I love it when she experiments. This photoshoot is edgy, fierce and captivating. Not many can pull off a dress like that, in fact most wouldn’t even attempt it but here is Michelle daringly pulling it off. It may resemble a black bin bag but damnit, Michelle is working it. If the dress didn’t stand out on it’s own enough, Michelle has paired this with some killer wedges with a criss-cross design and a funky leather bracelet. The dark and mysterious setting provides the perfect backdrop for this shoot too.

Miss Tessmacher‘s Porn Parody
Grade: Sour. New TNA Knockout, Miss Tessmacher is supposed to be Eric Bischoff’s new assistant and plays into every cliche possible about the slutty secretary. This really does look like one of those office pornos where the girl is in a super trashy secretary outfit and then takes it all off and undoes her bun with a slow-mo of her shaking her hair out. Not sexy at all.

Tiffany‘s Jersey Snore
Grade: Bland. Tiffany looks like she’s doing a parody of her own — of MTV’s Jersey Shore. You can just picture her going to the beach with her big Snooki hair. Unfortunately, Tiffany’s photoshoot is not nearly as exciting as the drama on Jersey Shore, hence the name of this photoshoot. Tiffany is pretty much standing around, smiling and showing off her body. It’s an impressive one, I’ll give her that but this photoshoot just looks paegant-y.

Tiffany‘s Wrestler Barbie
Grade: Bland. If there were ever to be a ‘Wrestler Barbie’, this is how I envision her being dressed — except with a pink top instead of purple. We all know that Tiffany has been quite impressive in the ring of late but this attire is just dreadful. The poses are pretty much the same as the shoot above — standing around and smiling. Not much variety here.

Vickie Guerrero‘s Excuse Me
Grade: Bland. Poor Vickie. This was only put up as an April Fool’s Day joke even though The Bella Twins look effin’ ridiculous in their photoshoot. I guess slim and slender trumps all~ Nonetheless, you can’t really expect great posing and outfits from Vickie so I definitely wasn’t expecting anything less than what we got. I do give her credit for the bedazzled jacket though!

The Bella Twins‘s Rosy Zebra
Grade: Bland. Here are the Bella Twins wearing the same outfit & posing with each other, everyone! Nothing you haven’t seen a million times before. The pattern on the dress is a little odd, zebra print with roses overlayed. It just looks distracting. Honestly, the dresses are boring, the poses are boring and the whole shoot just lacks any excitement. It’s pretty much your standard ‘Bellas pose together’ photoshoot.

Chelsea‘s Silver Chic #1
Grade: Sweet. New TNA Knockout, Chelsea has a memorable first photoshoot — why? Because a certain WWE Diva wore the exact same dress in her photoshoot too. But more on that later. Chelsea, who is a model, models the dress like a model should… any surprises here? Chelsea sells the dress perfectly. I really like the detailing on the dress and the colour. Chelsea doesn’t look too bad either and it’s definitely a passable first photoshoot. We’ll get tougher as the weeks go on, I’m sure.

Katie Lea‘s Goggle Girl
Grade: Sour. Here’s Katie Lea once again in those damn goggles. God knows why, perhaps she was going swimming after the photoshoot? In this photoshoot, Katie gives us more of her unique ‘style’ and less than flattering facial expressions. I admire that she tries to be unique but seriously, everything is so thrown together and nothing complements each other. I’m not even sure what’s going on with that corset thing. You know you love her. XOXO Goggle Girl.

Natalya‘s Spring Awakening
Grade: Bland. Natalya is finally out of that damn ring attire! Unfortunately, her outfit here isn’t too flattering on her however. Nattie looks like she’s off to a picnic in the sun with her boyfriend but I don’t particularly think the dress suits her. Then there’s the poses, it’s the standard hands-on-hips that we’ve come to expect from the Hart Dynasty Diva though she does have a really nice, energetic smile that comes across. Still, it’s not quite there.

Rosa Mendes‘ Silver Chic #2
Grade: Sweet. See anything familiar? Like Chelsea earlier, Rosa is looking hot in this silver ensemble. However, I much, much prefer this outfit on the Latina because she is wearing the hell out of that dress and fills it out in all the right places. Combined with her knack for accessorizing — those earrings are gorgeous, as is that bangle — Rosa has the perfect outfit here. Her poses, as always, are effortlessly beautiful and she just pops through your screen.

Savannah‘s Saucy Straps
Grade: Sweet. Savannah looks like she’d fit right in at a fashion magazine here where outfits like this, saucy though they are, would be appropriate work clothes. I’m not feeling the pink too much or the milk maid-like straps but I just can’t help but love the way this dress fits Savannah. It’s so form fitting and gorgeous. Angelina Love‘s Going It Alone
Grade: Sour. Those of us hoping for a more refined look from Angelina upon her TNA return were sadly mistaken when she returned with the same messy style that she had prior. The choker around the neck, the boobs bursting out of the top and the ripped pants look are all clashing and just doesn’t look good at all. The poses offer no variety either with Angelina basically just changing her angles rather than her poses.

Christy Hemme‘s Fire & Water
Grade: Sweet. Not even going to beat around the bush — this may just be the best Knockouts photoshoot in TNA history. These TNA photoshoots are usually just taken against a white background and then overly saturated in Photoshop but this one, this fights all that and makes me want to see more. Christy comes across so seductive, tempting and gorgeous. Her red, fiery hair is coiffed to perfection in some of the shots and then we have the shots where she’s been doused in water — offering some extra edge. I can’t quite put my finger on why I like it, but Christy did a great job.

Gail Kim‘s Green with Envy
Grade: Sweet. Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day which passed earlier this week, Gail is seen in a sequined light green top and looks gorgeous in it. Now, I’m not a fan of the booty shorts but I don’t know — something about this shoot makes it look more classy than trashy. I guess that’s just Gail’s amazing elegance. Gail has really worked on varying up the poses in this week’s shoot; she has some perfect profile shots but then she also has some shots where she uses her legs to make herself look that much more sexier.

Jillian‘s Grammy Dress
Grade: Sweet. Who is this and what has she done with Jillian? The former Divas Champion has ditched the safe jeans and a tee look and upgraded to something elegant and sexy. The dress is to die for; it looks like a bandage dress which is extremely form fitting and makes Jillian’s boobs look amazing without looking trashy. The colours work really well together and the detailing is exquisite. Then we look down and see the gorgeous gladiator-like wedges. Jillian looks like a red carpet fashionista right here!

Madison Rayne‘s Lingerie Day
Grade: Sour. No one could get away with this photoshoot and lo-and-behold, Madison doesn’t. The wrestling/lingerie photoshoots are passe and trashy, quite frankly. It’s hard to judge this as an ‘outfit’ because it really isn’t but the beaded necklace is just sitting there and offering nothing — it just emphasises her boobs more, which I guess is the point. Throw in some awkward facial expressions and it’s evident that Madison doesn’t wanna be doing a lingerie photoshoot anymore than I want to see one.

Rosa Mendes‘ Little Black Dress
Grade: Bland. Hot girl, short black dress and bland poses — not exactly an imaginative photoshoot from Rosa. The dress is cute but is a little too simple for Rosa, who works much better in daring outfits. The poses again, are far too safe. Rosa looks bored and as though she doesn’t want to be there.

Rosa Mendes‘ Bamboo & Booty
Grade: Sweet. Rosa gets two photoshoots this week and this one is far better than the one above. Immediately what strikes you is the shiny booty shorts which look as though they’ve been borrowed straight out of a Beyonce video. Rosa is working it out though, as she goes for something a little more simple up top — a black vest. The accessorizing though, is cute with a beaded cross necklace and a nice bracelet. Rosa’s looking far more happy in this shoot too. The setting provides a happy atmosphere so perhaps that could explain it. The bamboo background actually complements Rosa’s skin tone.

Sarita‘s In Bloom
Grade: Bland. I actually like this outfit, it makes me think of spring and how the summer’s nearly here — it gets you in the mood. You can just imagine it smelling like lavendar, even. However, it looks awkward on Sarita who perhaps doesn’t have the body to fill it out. Then there’s the bland poses which aptly fits the category. This could’ve been a great shoot but lacks something.

Serena‘s Razor Edged
Grade: Bland. This top makes you look twice; it’s got so many things going on but in a good way. You’d certainly remember it. There’s all sorts of textures and detailing but it isn’t done justice by Serena’s lack of posing. With her hair chopped off, her face is that much more striking but she isn’t using it like she could. This is the standard ‘hands on hips, turn, turn’ photoshoot.

Taylor Wilde‘s Bait and Switch
Grade: Sour. What on earth…? Has Taylor Wilde just worn jeans over a bathing suit? I think so. It seems as though she was trying to go for a club look and thought we wouldn’t notice. Honestly, I think there’s nothing more to say than, bathing suit tucked into your jeans… really? The posing doesn’t salvage this either.

The Beautiful People‘s Strapped Up
Grade: Bland. Yawn, boring. The Beautiful People may be the new Knockouts Tag Team Champions but the photoshoot is the standard ‘posing with the belts’ pictorial. Honestly, there’s not much more you can do with such an accessory other than show it off and look at it in adoration. Just bland.

Gail Kim‘s Midnight Blue
Grade: Sweet. With Gail’s ring attire, once you’ve seen one, you think you’ve seen it all. Not the case with this rather capturing blue and black sequined outfit. This ring attire may just be my favourite of Gail’s. As for the shots, Gail isn’t doing anything too special but she looks so flawless: not a single hair out of place and a beautiful smile. There are a couple of stunning close up shots too that have a poignant feel about them. Gail’s best photoshoot yet.

Katie Lea‘s Visual Aid
Grade: Sour. Katie Lea’s photoshoots are always unique — she’s always using her arms, she’s always wearing excessive makeup and she’s always looking goth-like. This photoshoot however, has a new element to it… Katie seems to have goggles strapped to her forehead. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. Is she going for a futuristic goth look? Who knows. Frankly, I’d be worried to know why. There’s just far too much going on: her hair, her makeup, her metallic coloured ring attire and her funky poses. It’s just super distracting and gives me a migraine.

Natalya‘s Ladder to Success
Grade: Sour. Office wear, dangly earrings, high heels and a ladder. Either Natalya is starring in an infomercial about office safety or she’s starring in an ad campaign about the metaphorical climbing of the ladder to success? I’d like to think the latter. Even then, the ladder is yet another oddly placed prop just like Katie’s goggles and I just don’t know what’s going on here. On the bright side, she’s out of her Hart Dynasty ring attire but this isn’t a huge step up.

Rosa Mendes‘ Come Hither
Grade: Sweet. She of sexy couch poses is back! In a sequel to last year’s gorgeous photoshoot where a leather-clad Rosa rollicked with a leather-clad couch, Rosa has once again found a couch to work her magic on. This may be one sequel that doesn’t stink! Rosa, this time is wearing a gorgeous deep purple dress. I love this colour and it looks like a million bucks on Rosa. The newly reacquired Raw Diva looks extremely flirtatious with her ‘come hither’ facial expressions; that half smile, those wandering eyes — it’s like she’s looking right at you. Yes, you! She looks like she’s trying to grab your attention but isn’t being overtly sexy, which just happens to be incredibly sexy. Are you following? And then we get the non-chalant, “I’m just playing with my hair” poses that pretty much seals the deal for boners/girl crushes.

Tiffany‘ Director’s Cut
Grade: Sweet. Last time we saw a photoshoot from Tiffany, she was trying out to be a cheerleader. This time, she’s trying her hand at directing? Keeping with today’s theme of random props in one’s photoshoot, Tiffany is playing around with a chair that’s not dissimilar to what you’d see on a movie set. The outfit is blah which tells me that this photoshoot was done while she was still ECW GM but it’s the poses that really have me liking this shoot. This photoshoot shouldn’t work but Tiffany comes across fun, playful and care-free as she lounges on the chair with a smiley face with legs kicked up in the air. Her eyes and her smile sell this one.

Beth Phoenix‘s Saucy Secretary
Grade: Sour. Has Beth Phoenix traded in the life of a WWE Diva to be someone’s secretary? Sure looks like it. And if her super short skirt is anything to go by, she may be an Ali Larter in ‘Obsessed’ type secretary — though I’m sure she’d have no problem taking care of Beyonce. Honestly though, I don’t know why Beth so often opts to dress like she’s heading off for a day at the office and it’s not a flattering look on her. It ages her, makes her a little bit frumpy and isn’t the wardrobe of a Glamazon. The poses are the standard hands-on-hips shots that offer little diversity also.

Kelly Kelly‘s Just Dance
Grade: Sweet. Despite looking far too tanned for my liking, Kelly is dressed in cute, sexy, young club wear and looks like she’s ready to go dance the night away. Kelly fits her skinny jeans effortlessly and the the sequined top works on her too. Meanwhile, I really like Kelly with her hair up like this, it gives her more of a fashionable look than her usual hair-down look. The poses aren’t offering too much variety but I think Kelly manages to salvage it with her pearly whites. I particularly love the image we’ve used in the graphic — it looks a little more artsy than the standard Diva catalogue poses.

Maryse‘s Tan Line
Grade: Sweet. It’s a bold choice for someone who’s so tanned to be wearing a tanned colour dress. Where does the dress end and her skin begin? Okay, it’s not that bad. The toned down colour of the dress and boots isn’t what I’d expect from someone who is usually as loud and colourful as Maryse so it is a nice change of pace actually. Her poses are what really make this photoshoot work though with Maryse giving us a different look in each and every picture. I just mentioned the standard Diva catalogue poses and Maryse is definitely one of the girls who goes against the grain. She knows how to work the camera and has something to offer in each shot.

Michelle McCool‘s Body Warm
Grade: Bland. Michelle McCool’s trying to fashion a body warmer into a top here and well, someone throw the girl one of those Simply Flawless shirts to put on underneath. From the waist down, Michelle looks sexy in her sequined black leggings but the body warmer as a top just isn’t working. I think it’d look cute even i she just had a simple black vest top underneath with the body warmer unzipped. The poses aren’t exactly inspiring either with McCool tugging at her body warmer exposing her cleavage — doesn’t scream ‘classy’ to me which is what I usually consider the Women’s Champ. Michelle either looks bored or trying-too-hard-to-be-sexy in most of the shots and it just looks awkward.

Mickie James‘ Country Strong
Grade: Bland. No doubt that Mickie James’ recent attire change was inspired by her new country album — perhaps she’s trying to send subliminal messages to the audience: “Buy my record!” The new look definitely gives me the impression of being ‘country strong’ which just so happens to be a lyric in her debut single, ‘Are You With Me’. The jeans don’t exactly look practical for wrestling and I don’t see them having bejewelled detailing down on the farm. The poses aren’t too flattering either. Mickie’s either scrunching up her hair which by the way, isn’t sexy at all or she’s kind of staring blankly at the camera. Her seem a little deadpan and there’s no excitement here.

Eve Torres‘ Close Knit
Grade: Sweet. According to Shad Gaspard, she’s the hottest Diva in the WWE and looking at this photoshoot — we can see why. Eve brings sexy, glamorous and girl next door into a single photoshoot with ‘Close Knit’. The Diva, wearing a navy blue knitted sweater dress doesn’t look overtly sexual, but manages to bring the sexy anyway. With an outfit like this and legs like that, Eve doesn’t really rely on posing as much and some of her poses may seem a little boring. But overall, this is a sexy photoshoot!

Maria‘s Curtain Call
Grade: Sour. Who will do a photoshoot every single week now that Maria’s gotten the axe? In her final photoshoot for WWE, Maria gave us all the things we’ve become accustomed to in her pictorials: pouty lips and outlandishly garish outfits. Unfortunately, Maria’s patented gloves didn’t get to make their curtain call. It’s all you’ve come to expect from Maria and honestly, that’s not a good thing. Nonetheless, au revoir Maria!

Natalya‘s Still Pink
Grade: Bland. She’s still in the pink and black and yes, we’re still bored. There’s nothing new or different about this Natalya photoshoot and you may wonder if it’s really just an old shoot. To her credit though, Natalya does try to mix it up with the poses — there’s one of her lying on her stomach and another of her crouching. But ultimately, there’s nothing that pops about this spread. Come hard or go home, Nattie!

Savannah‘s Bronzer
Grade: Sweet. Savannah’s getting into the Olympic spirit. While bronze may usually indicate third place, in our book Savannah would win gold with this shoot. Savvy’s looking cute, sexy and flirtatious without turning it on too much. The refined poses with her arm sort of covering her give an air of “you can look but you can’t touch.” She looks comfortable in her own skin and she dresses sexy for herself! And who could be turned off by that infectious smile? Love it!

Tiffany‘s Career Change
Grade: Sour. Looks like Tiffany’s trying out for a new career after being made redundant following the axing of ECW. Tiff is getting her cheerleader on in this photoshoot, suggesting that she may be looking for work as one? Even with the cheerleader theme, the outfit is more ‘gym gear’ with a skirt than cheerleader. Homegirl could take a few cues from Cheerleader Melissa. Maybe Tiffany can take all the athletic poses she’s showing off in this shoot and bustle her butt down to FCW. Come back in a year or so, Tiff.
